This review could have received 5 stars, genuine customer service and being upfront about automatic gratuity, for me, is key to an overall good experience. My friend and I strolled into Thithi's on a Tuesday evening and it was poppin! The bar was full and there were several tables filled with happy diners. Our server, who was friendly enough but seemed performative, came by and immediately asked for our drink and app orders. She didn't go over the menu or ask if we had any questions. Since I had already checked out the apps, we ordered the seafood crispy rolls and two iced teas. She came back and asked if we were ready to order---once again, she didn't ask if we had any questions. Since I was torn between the spicy bail catfish curry and the banana curry duck, I asked which one she would recommend. She said the catfish was very popular and highly recommended it, so I went with that. My friend ordered the beef tenderloin pho. Our seafood rolls arrived and they were very tasty, but could have used a touch of finishing salt. Soon after our entrees arrived. Well, she was right about the catfish, it was amazing!!! Very flavorful, with a thick and creamy, -curry cream sauce and tender chunks of catfish. The portion was huge and we were able to share it with plenty for me to take to lunch the next day. I tried my friend's pho and it was quite good. He loved it and polished off the huge bowl of phoey goodness. After looking at the dessert menu, the apple crisp with ice cream looked tasty so we ordered that to share. It was delicious. Now here comes the bill. My friend took a look, reached for his wallet and pulled out two, crisp $100 bills. A bell went off in my brain and according to my math, the bill should have been a little under $100, I mean, yeah, maybe all he had were those two hundos and needed to leave a tip, but something told me to ask him if they included gratuity. He didn't have his reading glasses on and asked me to take a closer look at the bill. Sure enough, they included gratuity. That's just shady business practice to me. Most restaurants nowadays have a written notice on the menu or the server will kindly tell you gratuity is included, but not at this place. We went for Mother's Day, and hot to sit in the outdoor pods they have in the parking lot. It was nice to have the pod to ourselves! The staff was super friendly and attentive. Overall the food was okay, not the best Thai, but not the worst. I don't love it when Thai places use American broccoli for their dishes. The food wasn't the most authentic, but it tasted good. The food was very good, I just didn't like that the snapper had all that sauce and vegetables over it in a sweet sauce. My mom has raved over the martinis at Thithi's so I had to check it out for myself when I came in town to visit. We went on a Friday night and it was not too busy although the parking lot was full (both sides are on small and tight). Our party of 4 was seated quickly and the table attendants brought us water. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure to note spice levels and the way certain items were prepared which was appreciated. I ordered the peachy tequila martini and it was great. It was filled to the brim and strong so I definitely got my money's worth. For food, we ordered the Vietnamese wings, thai chicken fried rice, beef lover, and garlic chicken. The beef lover was really heavy on the vegetables and I would've liked more meat but it was tasty. I know I will be back for sure. read more

My fellow Aquarius friend and I recently dined in at Thithi's Restaurant for a belated birthday celebration, and it was such a great experience from start to finish. For food, everything hit the mark. I ordered the Garlic Peppery Shrimp, which was perfectly seasoned and full of bold flavor, along with the Thai Egg Rolls, crisp and satisfying. My friend had the Crispy Basil Catfish, which was cooked beautifully, and for an appetizer she chose the Crab and Cream Cheese Crispy Rolls. The drinks deserve their own moment. We celebrated with cocktails from their extensive drink menu. My friend enjoyed Sidecars, while I tried the Guava-tini and the Jungle Bird. They were so good that I completely forgot to take pictures--always the sign of a great cocktail! Between the flavorful food, fun drinks, and relaxed celebratory vibe, this was the perfect spot for a birthday dinner (or any special occasion). I'll definitely be back and highly recommend dining in if you're looking for great food and cocktails, as well as personable service. I went to a private celebration which was located in one of Thithi's party rooms and it was my first time eating there. The food and drinks were phenomenal! Staff was attentive, efficient and friendly. Some guests requested gluten free and the restaurant definitely had those options. The place is large enough for small parties and very large parties. I had a pomegranate drink (amazing) and appetizers to start (egg rolls and green bean tempura). Dinner: a variety of dishes was served family style. I loved every dish! Generally, I think the food here is overpriced. I've said this before and that still holds true. The location and the taste do not add up to the prices of the dishes. We started with the calamari. It was bland. The batter was not crispy and the slices were too thick and so very chewy. I had the massaman curry. I enjoyed it. It had heat and the sweetness from the pineapples. One thing that really baffled me was how much curry came with the dish in comparison to the small side of rice. I needed more rice. Lastly, we shared a slice of chocolate cake and really enjoyed it. It was definitely decadent so a little goes a long way. My sister had the pad see-ew. I tried it and I've had much better. It was missing something. Similarly, my dad had the sesame chicken. He was expecting a sweet tamarind sauce but it missed the mark for him. He added sweet and sour to it to get the desired result. Overall, I give 3/5. read more

Man oh man. I love a good neighborhood hotspot and this one ranks near the top for me. I'm not from Chicago, but this place will be a must visit whenever I'm in town now. I ordered the red curry and my friend ordered the Pad Woon Sen. We also shared some veggie egg rolls. The martini menu was the star of the show. This establishment has been a great restaurant for the community. They offered outdoor seating if that's what you like. The staff is always nice and attentive. There never is an issue with cleanliness. If you would like to sit at the bar I would make reservations for it or go during lunch hours because the seats are limited. I like their lunch specials. We love this area of town; however, the food scene is seriously lacking including both takeout and fine dining options. One night, I was craving Thai and scoured the local Facebook group to find a suitable option. The reviews for Thithi's are somewhat mixed across Yelp and Google, but without another good option for takeout, we decided to try it. My take on Thai in general maybe somewhat biased as my local Thai place before moving back to Chicago had recently received a James Beard. Any way, we ordered Thai spring rolls, drunken noodles, and panang curry. Next time, I would skip the Thai spring rolls. The filling wasn't very flavorful, and they were pretty greasy. While I wouldn't say this is my favorite Thai place, the drunken noodles definitely cured the itch for a Thai craving. The curry was also good! We've heard Thithi's is also a nice place to dine in for adults, so maybe we'll check it out on a future visit. But, overall, we're happy to have a decent Thai option in the area! read more

A childhood friend kept talking up Thithi's, and so did several other friends, so I dropped in. It was a busy spot for an early Sunday evening. The hostess was very accommodating with getting me a seat. The server was very good with the ordering and keeping my water filled. The tempura calamari was good, but still a little short on flavor. The tempura reminded me of the crispy part of funnel cakes. It wasn't the delicate crispy to true tempura. The sweet and spicy sauce that accompanied it for dipping helped some. I ordered tom yum shrimp that was more substantial than I expected. Not bad. The soup was very sweet. There was no sour, which is a main part of tom yum soup. I think the cook used cane sugar instead of palm sugar. Palm sugar isn't overpowering and saccharine like what was in the tom yum. The seafood panang was a highlight. They do not conserve on the seafood, so it was full of calamari, shrimp, scallops, and mussels. I had ordered the dish spicy. It came to the table mild. The dishes are too sweet for my liking. The recipes may be pre-made, so it's not like I can specify no sugar as if dishes are cooked to order. I also noticed that everything is twice the price of what you'd pay at many other Thai restaurants. The three dishes I ordered -- with water only for my beverage -- were $25 shy of $100. read more

I've been a patron at Thithis for many year's. The food and the ambiance has always been great. The service is lousy. I'm appalled tha they have never hired an African American. We not only patronize them in large numbers but also spend quiet a bit of money on their drinks alone. I witness a black couple who placed a order to go. While waiting they bought a drink. Once their to go order was prepared and they wanted to eat some of their food ,they were told they would have to pay. Sad to say I believe that was about a tip. Then after paying over a hundred dollar's and a twenty percent grantee for dinner I asked for a hard plastic container and was told that would be a extra dollar. What a insult. OK, so I grew up a few blocks from here so it's nice to see a good restaurant in the area because there are pretty much no other options. Evergreen Park is starting to attract a few good restaurants which is good. People seem to love this place, especially for drinks. Now for my experience. I am a Thai purist and I really like the spicy basil dishes. The first time I was here I tried the Drunken Noodles dish and it was so cloyingly sweet that it was kind of inedible. They put in some weird desert wine I think. Anyways, I should know better to order Thai at a place that doesn't specialize in Thai, but I figured this place could handle it. I was disappointed and it took me a while to come back. I tried it again the other night. The parking lot was packed so I was worried I wouldn't even be able to get a table, but inside the tables were empty and about 10 really loud people were at the bar. They were quite boisterous and kind of impacted my ability to relax and read my book and enjoy a nice quiet meal. No big deal as they were the ones making money for the place. I got the Thai Basil with Rice this time. This was a HUGE dinner portion for $25... it had like two whole green peppers chopped up into it. I wish there was more of a single serving portion as opposed to the whole family style plate option, but I realize at dinner time this is common at most asian restaurants. This dish was sort of tasty... it wasn't sweat like the last one, but was kind of too salty and sour and was just kind of so-so. I ate a bunch of it, but each bite I was kind of hoping for more. Not sure if I will be back and if third time is a charm.... maybe I could be talked into trying their beef stew or a Vietnamese dish. Overall they are obviously doing some things right. They have good service and a nice atmosphere. I would focus on the top rated dishes/Vietnamese ones and avoid happy hour. read more

Waitress was very friendly. They have two parking lots but it's small which makes you find parking a little far. It looked ok... but ummm NO. Came to try the pho, and I should've known when there was more than two cuisine styles and not one Vietnamese person in sight, to turn around and go, but I decided to give it a try. The pho came out with dark flavorless broth, and the rice noodles were chopped up and gummy. Choppy Red onion??? WTF is this?? The basil was already added so it was shriveled up and I don't eat basil, BUT they already added the stuff to the soup instead of on the side as it should be... in which- that is for the customer to do and if I'm being honest, it was a shameful set of fixings because there may have been three bean sprouts in the whole soup too... just terrible. Now that let's talk about the biggest problem... The shrimp in the pho that I asked for... Chicago as a whole might need to stop trying to serve seafood because clearly they are not used to handling it properly. This is the second restaurant that I've been to within a 48-hour period that gave shrimp or some form of seafood, when I ordered- the seafood was spoiled/not up to standard of cities that actually make great food. You cannot cook the smell out of spoiling seafood, it is a VERY distinct scent- so you knew that mess was not any good when you added it to the soup or you need to shut down and go to training on how to identify issues and properly store seafood for consumption. Had I not known any better or not known good food, would've gotten very sick eating it. They're do not offer brisket/steak/seafood ball etc like a normal pho place would. This is basically someone's bastardized version of pho -- plus it was served in a CHIPPED GLASSWARE BOWL. Do they not have any form of standards or regulations in the restaurant industry out here??? Since when do we serve customers with essentially broken glassware? Either way, after smelling the spoiled shrimp, I promptly gathered my belongings and left found a much better actual Vietnamese restaurant closer to where I was staying, and their pho was decent- with non-spoiled tiger shrimp... definitely not the best I've ever had, but decent for Chicago & that place is called a Taste of Vietnam - in case anyone is looking for real pho. My experience at Thithi's was pretty amazing. Our server Fabiola was fabulous. She was very patient and made sure we were comfortable the entire time. The decor was simple and refined, just like the food. I had Pad Thai, the red snapper, pineapple fried rice, and some sort of cucumber martini. Everything was great. I'll most definitely be back. This is positively the best Thai fusion restaurant in Chicago. The creativity behind the food and drinks are incredible. We started our visit in the front indoor dining room but we were quickly overwhelmed by the volume in the room which sounded like an echo chamber due to the shouted discourse at another table. Our waitress quickly came to the rescue and reseated us in one of their outdoor dining rooms. A serene environment to enjoy conversation, the marvelous martinis and dinner. I had the Saffron Scallops, served with leek, Tempura Asparagus and onion rings in beurre blanc. My wife ordered the Nutty Chicken and my son the Hoisin Pork Chop. Each was thoroughly enjoyed. We had a group of 12 celebrating an anniversary. The service was great and the food was delicious. My score is based on the fact that 2 individuals in our group requested additional sauce for a Salmon dish. They were originally told that they were unable to accommodate the request because the sauce was made with the dish, however the wait person stated she would check and see what could be done. Not sure what that was about. When we were leaving with our carry outs the request for additional sauce was made again, the server returned and indicated that it was possible to obtain additional sauce for $4.00. What about the sauce being made with the dish!!! Needless to say we declined the opportunity to get the additional sauce. It was disappointing, because I had never experienced being told that I could not have additional sauce during a meal, however later being advised that as a part of the carry out we could purchase some. My score is primarily based on the customer service aspect of this dinner outing. read more

Let me start off by saying they have some of the BEST martinis anywhere! That what everyone goes to this place for more then the food. The food is pretty decent. We tried a few different things. I was only impressed with the Lamb appetizer. The egg rolls were not very good...more cabbage then actual seafood or chicken. LOTS of cabbage. Service was horribly slow even though the server was nice but we waited much to long for lots of things we asked for. They are not doing any social distancing with the tables. So we literally had our mask on the entire lunch when we were not eating. This spot is not on the top of my list to revisit but I'm not saying I wouldn't try again. read more

Well it was one of those times that I needed a Vietnamese dish. On the Southside it's rare to find places that can seriously get it right. Well this time i was elated to not only get my coconut soup but also another dish with the perfection of tofu. What? I am a believer! Our waiter was amazing, he literally stood there given us some good poi tears and his favorites. I like that. Now you have to see that this restaurant is not big, actually very narrow, but fits a comfortably sized array of tables to accom9date. In summer you can sit outside in their enclosed room, but colder weather definitely try gives you the I timely of conversation. The food was impeccable and the fact the waiter let us share a soup and bring it out in 2 bowls was kind to say the least. I like that, as the partner and I don't really eat big meals. Now let me mention that the cucumber martini was one of my favorites. It had saki infused it in according to our waiter. Is this the secret Ingredient that made me yearn another?
