The best Teriyaki in Washington State! I wish they had one way up North in the Bellingham area.

We came here to try the takeout. It is a busy takeout restaurant. I've been to many Happy Teriyaki places in the south sound. For me, they are pretty much all the same. Here the food is predictable. It tasted okay. We got more meat but not as much rice--which was appreciated. Also, the meat was not tough. The ambiance is the normal teriyaki vibe you expect for these places. read more

I had been to Happy Teriyaki a few times over the years when I visit Olympia. On a rainy day this visit, we stopped in. Food The menu offers many options. They offer five lunch specials that are much more reasonable priced than their normal menu. I ordered spicy chicken and beef with brown rice and chicken Yakisoba. The lunch special came with soup. The portion size of chicken and beef was enough to make two meals out of it. It tasted good, the yakisoba was ok, and I didn't care for the soup. 3/5 Service The service was a positive. All ordering was done at the counter. Staff were friendly and courteous. They came by once during our meal to refill drinks and cleaned up in a timely manner. 4/5 Ambiance The restaurant is a sizable space and offers a lot of tables for varying sizes for different groups. The decor isn't memorable, but the place was clean. Happy Teriyaki is a solid dining experience. It is not spectacular, but it is steady. Husband ordered yakisoba and the noodles were fettuccine noodles. When I called to talk to someone the fella that answered the phone stated they recently changed the noodles and asked us to send a photo. I love this place. I visited with a friend and was impressed with the sheer size of my meal. The teriyaki chicken was slightly charred just the way I like it. The gyoza I enjoyed in the convoy was excellent too filled with excellent ingredients. It took two days to eat it all and I have to say they have some of the best teriyaki sauce I've had anywhere. The sauce I enjoyed was the thickened/reduced sauce and I will be back for more the next time I'm in the area. I was very happy with the fried rice option instead of steamed rice and it was loaded with tasty morsels. The stir fried vegetables included were also excellent. The food here is wonderful, stopped for lunch got the $10+ lunch special of chicken and beef teriyaki! Normally I don't have leftovers to bring home but their servings are generous! Picked up a togo order for my family and when I got home there was a long hair in my food. The rice also smelled like dirty dish water. They put up a huge fight to refund me for my purchase when I came back in with all my food, uneaten, requesting a refund. Stopped in to get a take out order. Got half way out the door and looked in bag to find that It wasn't what I ordered (glad I looked). Brought It up to counter and politely told the lady working I had wrong order.She argued with me and then realized I was right. Took bag away without apologizing and acted like I was a jerk for not wanting someone else's order. Took a few minutes and she slid my order across counter with a scowl on her face. Wth!?! Was it my fault!?!? I then Looked in bag and asked if I could please have some forks and napkins. Without saying a word she set ONE napkin down and two forks. Since I ordered for more than one person I asked if I could have some more napkins. She gave me ONE more. Apparently they are rationing napkins at this place. Seriously - I can get teriyaki at about 30 other places in the area. Don't need the unnecessary and undeserved attitude. I'll go somewhere than appreciates me as a customer and just simply apologizes when a mistake is made instead of acting like its my fault. This food was disgusting! The General Taos was a soggy ball of mush with more chili peppers than actual food. The fried rice is not fried rice. Just steamed rice with frozen peas and carrots mixed in. It was so bad we could not eat it. We ended up just tossing it. $40 in the garbage. read more

To start, this is my father's favorite teriyaki restaurant. I can understand stand why. This outpost of Happy Teriyaki consistently produces good food, handles a good volume of business at peak meal times, and provides good service. Fountain soft drink refills are freely offered. I am not certain if there is a huge difference in teriyaki sauces, but the one offered here works for us. I have had three different proteins (chicken, pork and beef), and have enjoyed all three. Lighter appetites will probably enjoy a bowl, while those if us with more robust appetites will opt for a bento or combination. This has always been my favorite Teriyaki place. We have gone there as a family for celebrations and of course on the way home from work. I expected that they would care about my safety when I saw a you must wear face mask. A gentleman was not wearing one after I ordered and all I did was say no face mask? I did not act like a Karen , I did not pitch a fit. The staff person asked that I stop picking on the gentleman. Obviously the man had something going on. Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees...well, you know the rest. A couple things you should know about this chain 1) the #3 in Lacey is and will always be the best and 2) do not order anything other than chicken and gyoza. In Washington, Teriyaki restaurants are a dime a dozen but this place does a great job at providing a good meal at a decent price. For around $6 you can get soup, chicken, gyoza, stir fried veggies and rice. It's fast food done well. Just make sure to either go before or after the government employees. They tend to pack the joint during lunch time. This fat girl knows good teriyaki...and I'm Asian so you should take my word for it ;D read more

Blech...stopped in here for dinner one night while in town for a meeting and terrible. I ordered a noodle dish and it was full of bland veggies and a tasteless sauce. I know its teriyaki and fast food...but this was at the bottom of that barrel. On top of that the staff was unpleasant and the service time was a little slow. I stopped here on a long road trip north whereby I avoided the major highways. Happy Teriyaki was a delicious dinner to give me the energy for the last few hours home. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful (and one in particular caught my eye). I had a spicy teriyaki chicken which was flavorful and had that nice grilled taste rounded out with a sweet sauce. I left stuffed and satisfied. I doubt I'll find myself in Tumwater any time soon, but if I have a hankering for teriyaki while I'm in that area, I will totally return. read more

I love this Happy Teriyaki. They are so nice and very consistent with their recipes. The only reason I voted 4/5 is because there is no possibility of getting chicken without MSG. I am incredibly sensitive to MSG and cannot tolerate much at all. My favorite is the yaki udon. I would like it better with chicken but it's a no-go with so much MSG. Fortunately, they will make it without the chicken, and it is still delicious. read more

The food is good at Happy Teriyaki #5. Add the pleasant interior and the great service, and #5 receives a solid four stars. It's got a dining room feel with colored walls and low profile carpeted floors. You'll find plenty of families dining in here. Lots of room; crowds can be accommodated. And the service is A #1 - very friendly and responsive. They serve beer and wine and they have a flat screen TV. Makes it nice for eating in or if you're just waiting for your to-go order. They also have some intricate looking soft serve yogurt sundaes that are quite popular. Excrutiatingly clean restrooms. While I find the food a bit more plentiful and tasty at Niko in West Oly, the accoutrements at #5 make it a mean contender. read more

A step above teriyaki joint. While most teriyaki restaurants taste like cookie cutter restaurant-in-a-box, Happy T has their own distinct flavor and sauce. I like all of the teriyakis - particularly the pork - and the udon stir fry. They added brown rice a couple of years ago which I prefer and isn't offered at a lots of places.
