Sweet and sour shrimp
Seth D.

I left a glowing review 5 years ago, but unfortunately I have to update things. Happy Star has changed hands and at first the change in many recipes was actually quite good imo. The sauce on the chicken and broccoli was different, yet just as good if not better. My only complaint was that with each order, something was left out of our bag. First 2 times was a white rice box, third time was egg rolls, (I learned to check the bag and caught most issues after this). Obviously not a good look but I figured they were growing pains of the new owners. Now, the quality of the food has gotten terrible. We ordered last night and there's virtually no sauce on my chicken broccoli, and my wife's fried shrimp have gone from large plump pink shrimp, to tiny, overcooked, brownish smelly and ugly shrimp (by comparison). The shrimp used to overflow a box carton and a half-quart(?) container of sweet and sour was included. Now it's a quarter of sauce and the shrimp has likely been halved in quantity. Also, the drive home had a strong smelly shrimp smell to it, which never happened over the 10 years with the previous owners, (likely using older shrimp now). In short, our food was quite terrible, even by the new owner's standard set when they first opened. You guys are going to lose all the loyal clients at this rate. The old owners were clearly highly dedicated and their food quality was impeccable. I've come to happy Star since it opened 10 or so years ago, but we may have to seek out an alternative, which is sad.

The Crab Rangoon was decent, but the Philly cheese sandwich was nothing but greasy gristle inedible... not going back

Szechuan tofu

Happy star is a small place located in a very small strip mall. Inside is mostly closed up do to covid so we order carry out. It seems to be run by a very nice family as we see the same people each time we go in. While the outside is nothing to look at, the food is excellent. Excellent and rich flavor. Large portions. Plenty of options. Our favorite is the szechuan tofu. Of all the chinese places in Reynoldsburg, happy star is one of the best.

This is the best Chinese food in Reynoldsburg! Mom and pop joint.. Always delicious, big servings, great prices and friendly service! Please support your local community and give these guys a try! You won't be disappointed! We got the Pork Lo mein, chicken fried rice, General Tso's chicken and crab Rangoon YUM

Very clean, and fast. They had the best price I've found so far, and I've tried like 4 different Chinese places, since I moved up here. Generous amount of food too. Highly recommend.

Orange chicken got the combo came with egg roll 8.00

Second time being here and I will be honest great price for the amount of food you get and the food is very tasty. The lady in the front is Super Nice!!! Definitely try it if you haven't.

Exceptional. Will be ordering takeout from here often. Added plus - the gal who took the order spoke very good English.

Ask the Community - Happy Star

Anyone know the if there has been changes at happy star this week? I heard some rumors that new management took over and quality has plummeted.

Their website says as of 4/1 they were under new management. I realized after I picked up my order tonight, the quality was disappointing.

We ordered sweet and sour chicken, vegetable lo mein, an egg roll, steamed rice, and yum yum sauce. I was surprised that all our dishes were fairly bland; I found myself dumping soy sauce on the lo mein, for instance, to get any flavor. The yum yum sauce was much more like a honey mustard than any other version of that sauce I ever had, and neither my daughter nor I liked it. Sweet and sour chicken was decent: chicken was not greasy or had too much breading, which i appreciated. Portions were not huge, unlike a lot of other Chinese restaurants, especially given the price. Fine, but I'll be looking for other Chinese restaurants for take out in the future.

This time they put the rice and the Lantern Chicken in the same container and it's a smaller container. You're getting less for more money. We called and they tried to say we were getting the same amount because they said they measure it. How can you get the same amount if the container is smaller? More lies. We are now done ordering from them. And we have been ordering from them for over 20 years. Wish I could post a picture. Picture is an old container showing the size, second picture is the new container, which they say is the same size of food as the old container but 1/2 is now the rice.

Two words - Daniel and noodles !! Handmade that is …read more.. Usually you find these kind of places on the west coast and I normally seek assistance with understanding the menu. Daniel made it so easy tonight for my husband and I . We've always said we wanted to try it - our 2026 is about doing it , not talking about it . He recommended the XiXia stirred noodle with beef and mentioned they make their own soy for it . I wanted to try the hot pot noodles . We got to choose wide or thin noodles (they're fresh !!). We got wide for the stirred and thin for the hot pot . We also ordered the pork , shrimp and chive dumplings . First of all - the handmade dumplings . DAng . I don't think I'll ever get BIBIGO again with this place so close . Melt in your mouth delicious . and they were large . We totally loved both noodle dishes . Stirred noodles were the hit - the sauce is homemade and they were wonderfully tender and dang that homemade garlic/soy sauce !! They should bottle it . The hot pot noodles were awesome . Like a lo mein but not even close because the noodles are handmade . And can we talk about the beef ? Not chewy at all . Lots of Chinese beef dishes have chew to them . This was melt in your mouth tender . We loved both love Thai food and my husband said this blows Thai paradise away( noodle dishes ) . I agree . Handmade noodles will always win . We'll definitely be back . And with family/ employees like Daniel , XiXia is sure to win and gain so many more customers . He is awesome !!!!

We ordered a bunch of soupy pork buns (XLB)- hands down the favorite for the kids. They took a little longer to come out but everything else was quick. I got the Spicy Beef Stew Noodle with wide handmade noodles and baby bok choy. The Szechuan peppercorn spice hit just right-- tingly and balanced. The noodles were bouncy with a perfect bite, the bone broth was rich, and there was plenty of meat (a few pieces a bit tough, but still solid overall). Hubs got the Curry Chicken lunch special and cleaned his plate. Service was great. They default to forks, so ask for chopsticks and soup spoons if you prefer them. Ordering is through a tablet, which keeps things moving and you pay at the counter. Everyone left full and happy, which is really all you need to know. NOTES/TIPS: **Wheelchair-accessible. Easy parking in shared plaza lot. **Clean bathrooms. **Bonus: their takeout containers are high quality and reusable.
