This review is for takeout: Lantern was recommended by a number of Blacklick locals, so my expectations might have been too high, but food was just fine. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, vegetable lo mein, an egg roll, steamed rice, and yum yum sauce. I was surprised that all our dishes were fairly bland; I found myself dumping soy sauce on the lo mein, for instance, to get any flavor. The yum yum sauce was much more like a honey mustard than any other version of that sauce I ever had, and neither my daughter nor I liked it. Sweet and sour chicken was decent: chicken was not greasy or had too much breading, which i appreciated. Portions were not huge, unlike a lot of other Chinese restaurants, especially given the price. Fine, but I'll be looking for other Chinese restaurants for take out in the future. read more

Great food always. Never disappointed with our meal. The many options appetizer soups and entrees are great.

Really disappointed with the price compared to serving. The price has remained the same, if not increased, and the delivery sizes have been cut in half. I spent $70 for 2 entrées, a VERY small order of crab meat wraps and two soups. The crab meat wraps alone were $22 for bite size pieces. Lantern Chinese has been a family favorite for years but this is unacceptable. What happened to affordable Chinese food that will actually feed a family. read more

Perfect dining in experience for COVID-19. Tables spaced and employees wore masks and digital menus. Our meal was tasty and plentiful. I had shrimp egg foo young which was enough for two meals. My egg roll had chicken, not made with pork. It was okay, not crunchy. Hubby ordered black pepper chicken. It was lean and lots of flattened pieces sauté in a delicious sauce and sliced onions. Lantern for a long time. They opened up at noon Christmas Day. A few minutes after taking some pics of this establishment, people entered in droves. The place was packed! Their lunch specials weren't available today only dinner entrees. Which is great! Gave his extra food for dinner too it save for tomorrow. I ordered their Mu Shu Chicken with steamed rice, my hubby ordered Lantern Chicken Food was especially tasty, staff very friendly and playing Christmas music. Stopped in because I saw they were nominated for best Chinese food in the city by Gannett (the Dispatch). Though I have no idea what they found so appealing about it when I walked out of the restaurant. We arrived on a weekday around 3pm and were seated by a hostess (or so we thought). It turns out she was also our waitress and we heard her working the bar too. In fact, as far as we could tell, there were only two people there - one working the back (who played with his phone when he didn't have any cooking to do) and one working the front - which was pretty drab with not enough lighting and, oddly, very quiet. Like a library. As you can imagine, that proved hectic. Despite ordering the Szechuan chicken, I was brought Sesame. By the time I was able to get the hostess/ waitress/ bartender's attention, my dining partners were more than halfway through their meal. They got the correct food, but neither one of my companions were especially keen on the taste. I ended up taking the majority of my meal home with me. For $55, I'm pretty sure I'm never going back. Asian Star is more pocket friendly, the food tastes better, and they're closer to my house. Three stars. Barely. read more

I finally called on the phone and someone answered and I said I'm here waiting for my pickup order and he comes brings me the food no apology or anything and that was it. When I first got my position at my current employer, I was taken with my team to Lantern for a lunch meet and greet. When you walk in, it reminds me of the movie set version of a Chinese Restaurant from older movies. I ordered the General Tso and asked them to make it very spicy, as midwestern level of spice equates to black pepper. Every other place I have been always adds extra chili oil or something to kick it up so it complements the sauce. When I got this, they had chopped up a fresh green pepper and thrown it in at the last minute so it was still raw. There was no spice to the peppers either. It just made the dish unappetizing. The other members of my group said their dishes were ok, but nothing to want to rush back for. The bright spot of our visit was the wait staff was very attentive, even with it being a bit busy of a lunch rush. I know this place is loved by all the Japanese nationals that work at my company. So that being said, maybe we just had an off experience on a bad day. So try the place out and see what you think. I know there are a lot of people that love Lantern. Maybe I will return one day to give it another shot, but there are two other similar restaurants up the street I enjoy, so not sure that will happen. read more

Sunday after church. Wife and I joined two friends. We sat next to a long table of other friends. Great service. I got fried dumplings and Dom Dom mein. Both were delicious. One at our table tried to order off the lunch menu but was told only dinner menu was available...and what she wanted wasn't on the dinner menu. So she tried the house fried rice and enjoyed the flavir...but it cost more than she expected. Another companion ordered the wir shu Mai (I might not have gotten that name right) , a huge portion of breaded chicken, with sauce and a bowl if whire rice. I didn't notice any veggies though. She enjoyed it while UT was hot but there was do much it cooled down before she finished a third of it. My wife had her regular...hot and sour soup, London, and setzwan beef. I normally enjoy my meals at this restaurant and have been a patron for many years. However, when I placed my online order I put in a note asking that they overcook the vegetables so they would be soft. They did not honor my request. I was unable to eat any of my vegetables. I have dental problems right now and my mouth is very sore. I had to throw away part of my meal,and am out that money. I very disappointed with them. read more

Absolutely awful meal ! My husband and I aren't big eaters so we each ordered an egg roll . Their egg rolls are filled with chicken. For our entree we were sharing an order of Sesame Noodles and specified that it was to be our entree. We received our egg rolls rather quickly served only with the sweet sauce and had to ask for the mustard. Never been to a Chinese restaurant where you had to specially order the mustard. Our server brought my mustard and also brought the sesame noodles- I said we ordered it as an entree but made no move to take it. We had to ask for plates. The reason we did not want processing needles with our eggroll is because we wanted to eat sesame noodles hot noodles cold and some serve either hot or cold but in be tween is gross. The Nice gentleman who gave us some more water also we asked him if we could have some serving utensils so we can mix up the sesame rolls and serve them I don't know what happen with our server but she was absolutely awful terrible the worst server ever. Of course by the time we were done with her ex all mixed up or sesame noodles they were not hot and they were disgusting it was the worst tasting sesame noodles ever it was like there was like no peanut butter no taste no flavor and when we left I had an awful taste in my mouth I had to go right home and brush my teeth because it was disgusting I definitely would not recommend them read more

The service here was excellent as other reviewers have noted. I have to give particular kudos to the middle aged Asian woman that waited on me here. I had specified that my entree be extra spicy so when she brought out the Vegetable and Tofu Soup I ordered, she automatically brought out a ramekin of hot chili oil along with it. She said she brought it because she thought I'd like to spice up my soup. She had noted that I like spicy flavors and did what a great server should do - she anticipated my needs. The soup by the way, was very good. It was light but satisfying, with tofu, Chinese snow peas and bok choy in a flavorful chicken broth. The Kung Pao Shrimp was very good too. It had a really good flavor to it. It was a decent sized but not an overly generous lunch portion. There were plenty of medium sized shrimp, bok choy, carrot, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. Ordered very spicy but got mild+ which wasn't a big problem since she had already set me up with lots of hot chili oil already. A couple of spoonfuls and I was good to go. This is a Chinese American old school style restaurant that's clean and well kept up. Prices are about typical for this type of restaurant. In other words, it won't break the bank to eat here on occasion but I also wouldn't put it on my list of great values for the money either. I've been coming here my entire life and they've had a few owner changes but overall I've always had a great experience here. All the food is good. There my husbands favorite egg rolls. My new kick has been soup dumplings they are delicious and they give you 10 for an order at a little under $12 and they are delicious. Online ordering is quite quick and easy. The Crab Rangoon were cooked to perfection. The garlic shrimp had a decent kick. Enjoyed both the spring roll and the egg roll. The "fried rice" was actually more of a brown rice which was unexpected. Didn't really add much to the meal. The sesame noodles were a small portion of mushy noodles covered with a blob (yes, a blob of light brown chunky sauce that tasted chalky). The potstickers were also mushy and undercooked. The restaurant was clean and quiet. A friend and I ordered our food. Service was prompt. It was all downhill from there. My Hot & Sour soup was pretty tasteless. My friend's egg roll looked like it was from the freezer section of a grocery store. I ordered pan fried noodles house special. I have never had such spongy noodles! The sauce was like water. I picked out the meat to take home and decided I couldn't even give it to my dog. My friend's entree was also awful. Needless to say I will not go back nor recommend this place. read more

Wow. Now. The food may not be top of the line chinese cuisine but boy oh boy the service is. Don't get me wrong the food is still very good top 5 i've had. My waitress Janae was a ray of sunshine to my pals and I cloudy day. She brings the place to the next level. They may not the most customers but if she's working then there will be lines out the door. She deserves a raise or else i'm committing arson.
