A popular Chinese hotpot chain restaurant. It's an all you can eat style where you pay for the broth and "everything else" is included with some premium items that you pay extra. I got a 2 sided broth to share and paid extra for the beef. For two people it came to about $90. I'd say this is a good value restaurant. I would return for the overall value for the price, but it's not the best hot pot restaurant. read more

had to wait over an hour for a table... and low-key still so worth! they had all the ingredients I could want, and some lovely lil appetizers included as well. including the pork rolls in the AYCE deal is so crazy generous. their hand pulled noodles and their rice noodles were so excellent. we did individual pots which was so peaceful cuz I didn't have to fight people for the perfectly cooked rice cakes. really cute really excellent read more

We were a group of six on a Friday night and they allowed us to take a large booth at the back of the restaurant. The table had three built in elements and could easily have seated 8-10. Dinner was all you can eat for $29 each plus $10 per pot of broth. We did not get the upgraded option. We got two pots of broth, each split into two different flavours. Special sliced beef, included, was brought to the table. Otherwise we each went up, prepared our own sauces, and selected from an extensive selection of proteins, vegetables and noodles. This did create quite a cluttered table as the plates for the raw ingredients were huge. I really liked the leaf shapes made out of shrimp paste. They cooked evenly and were delicious - no shrimp heads to rip off either. :) They had lots of balls to choose from and I really liked the lobster balls. I otherwise had a variety of proteins, Bob choy, sweet potato, enoki and king mushrooms. Rounded out with some glass noodles and konjak. There were several self serve drinks. I enjoyed the diluted lemon water. My friend enjoyed the drink that tasted like kool aid. Pay at the back of the restaurant. read more

Great all you can eat spot in Ottawa. A place is well known from other cities as well. It has lots of broth options and choices such as individual or shared pots. They have an interesting set up of a large area where you can self serve from large containers for lots of foods. Only items you need to order is the beef and lamb rolls. They also have an option of premium meats for a higher price. Would come back for sure, great place for a cold winter day. Not sure why the reviews are so low. I think it gets the job done and is a classic hot pot style read more

Amazing experience! The broths are really tasty, the staff is very kind and helpful! Must try in Ottawa!

We got a table for 6 people (each individual pot) but sadly they ran out of tomato soup base. We sat by the door unfortunately (only table available) so it was very cold (was -5 at the time). Happy Lamb is understaffed, they barely come to our table, weren't able to refill our water, bring napkins, cups and took a while to clear our plates. We paid $20 extra for lamb+beef skewers ($1.99 each, the manager later took it off the bill) and they were very bad. In the images I show the beef ones weren't cooked... maybe they used raw beef for the hotpot to make these. Much too salty and not enough cumin on the skewers. Another location I've been to in Toronto for Happy Lamb has better service, soy milk and more options in the sauce station. Manager was very nice! We paid 15% gratuity for a larger party. But I'd probably not come back to this location. read more

Having hotpot on a cold rainy day is always a good choice. I've been there many times with frds. Price is reasonable, around $25 per person, all u can eat. Also, it's way much cheaper than the other hotpot restaurant on Merivale. I like their lamb, beef, oyster mushroom, lamb spine, beef tripe, sponge tofu! read more

Worst experience in a restaurant that I can remember. First, I have a wheat allergy so my wife asked about the cooking sauces and dipping sauces. She was told that everything had wheat flour in it, so I could have boiling water. Note: I have had similar situations where the cooks went out of their way to put something together for me...not here. It was a screw you attitude. The worst part of the experience was how I was treated by the server. The first time she bumped me out of my seat to talk to others (who could eat everything) was funny. The second time she did this was not funny. The third time, when she actually asked me to move, I walked out. This was humiliating in front of my family. Most insulting restaurant experience ever. So food? I don't know. Service? Absolute worst. Ambiance? None. read more

I had lunch here with my mom and overall it was good, just too salty for my tastes. We went on a Saturday and so the lunch hotpot all-you-can-eat was $16.99 (it's $15.99 on weekdays). You have to pay extra for the hotpot broth. We shared a large regular pot for an additional $2.50 (large spicy is $3 and large half-and-half is $5. Individual/small pots are $2 for regular and $2.50 for spicy). The tables are set up as either everyone has their own individual pots or as people sharing a pot, so you need to decide before you are seated, as your choice will determine which tables you can sit at. You pretty much have a flat top stove on your table top with differing amounts of elements in different positions. You get an ordering sheet that you fill out and give to your server. You can order up to 3 rounds of food and 1 round of dessert. We were totally stuffed after 1 round, and I could only manage a tiny scoop of ice cream for dessert, lol. The regular broth was super fragrant and tasty. As time went on though, it got really salty, partly due to the garlic beef and chicken that we cooked in it, but mostly due to being more concentrated as the water boiled off. The regular beef was good, but a little too fatty for my liking. The lamb was leaner and surprisingly not too gamey. The garlic beef was a thicker cut, but still tender and was probably my favourite of all the meats. The garlic chicken was all dark meat and was good too. None of the meats were tough or chewy. For vegetables we got spinach, nappa cabbage, and broccoli. They were all properly washed and were good in the hotpot. We got some pieces of taro, Shitake mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms. These were excellent. For starches we got rice cakes (they're like Korean sliced rice cakes), glass noodles (mung bean vermicelli), and "wild potato noodles." I had never heard of "wild potato noodles" before but they were totally awesome. They were really thick and very chewy. I don't think that the texture is for everyone, but I loved it. The only things we did not enjoy were the wontons and the dumplings. The wrappers were good, but the meat fillings had a funky taste and smell to me. I think they were made with lamb because it tasted gamey. They also bring you some complimentary dishes before you order anything: a seaweed dish and some broth bones (with lots of meat still attached). I felt like a total neanderthal eating the broth bones, but they were delicious. I enjoyed the seaweed too, but the pieces were really slippery so even though I consider myself very skilled at using chopsticks, I dropped many pieces of seaweed on the table! Dessert choices were pretty limited. They had chocolate or vanilla ice cream, sesame balls, and "deep fried mini buns." My scoop of chocolate ice cream was unremarkable. My mom's sesame ball was tiny and filled with red bean. She said it tasted a tiny bit rancid. I did not have too much stomach space and the description of "deep fried mini buns" was too vague for my comfort, so I passed on those, but would be interested in trying them next time. Oddly enough "vegetable spring roll" and "steamed rice" were listed under desserts (?!?) Staff were very nice. They come around to refill your water when your glass is low, and they also come around with a kettle to refill your broth if you're running low (we didn't need a refill though because we had plenty of broth left as we didn't actually drink any of it. We only used it to cook our food). Decor is modern and washrooms were really clean. When you're done you pay at the back of the restaurant. Overall, it was a fun experience, but I was super thirsty for the rest of the day, so I think the broth had a lot of salt in it. It's in a little strip mall (same mall as the new Giant Tiger). There's lots of free parking, although some spots have a 30 minutes parking time limit. I don't think I will be a regular, but I would go back. read more

If I could give this place less than a 1 star I would. To put it into perspective me and my boyfriend goes to this hotpot place at least once or twice a month so this situation makes me even more upset. Friday, October 4th of this year me and my boyfriend went to go get hotpot for dinner time like we normally would, things seem to be going as normal, although we waited about 15-20 minutes for our complimentary meat (my boyfriend had to ask two different servers for these meat, one person only gave us one plate of meat when we normally get two and had to ask another person for the other), yes it was slightly busy as the dinner rush was happening but we saw a bunch of people's meats, other tables in our row included get their complimentary meat as soon as they are seated so no, the service quality should have been the same as if it weren't busy. Things are going as expected when an hour into eating, I scooped a full grown adult spider onto my plate. My first thought was maybe I am just ignorant as to what seasonings goes into hotpot but showing it to my boyfriend he confirmed that it is in fact a spider, we could have eaten that spider and got whatever it was carrying in its little body- granted two hours after eating we started feeling sick, like- I'm talking diarrhoea sick (cross contamination is a thing people). We asked the staff members if we could talk to a manager about it and got told that they don't have a manager on duty, but they were "sorry that it happened and that they knew that we are regulars" their explanation was "it is probably not in the broth but vegetables and other various other ingredients that goes in the broth", (that is slightly bit more alarming as 1. this place does not fully clean their hotpot fillings and 2. they don't fully sanitize their stations when making hotpot fillings). We asked what they could do about it and they offered for us to switch out broths but at this point we just want to get out as we feel disgusted. The guy up front said that he would be able to give us a discount but did not tell us the amount, and as my boyfriend was about to pay the guy says "$73.00" (keep in mind that dinner prices is $28.00/each and a large broth is $8.99, totalling with me and my boyfriend it would normally be $80+ with taxes and tip). That is absurd, not only did we have to pay almost full price for something as disgusting as this, but the fact that they promised a "discount" makes me even more mad, whatever "discount" button they have it's apparently only $10 off the full amount, they might as well have charged us the full amount. This place is disgusting I would not recommend. Not only is their service a 2/10 at best, staff members not caring about customers, but the fact that this is apparently not a one off incident (according to other reviews of this place) dating years back to now just means that they have not changed as a restaurant in terms of cleanliness and service quality. Safe to say we would not be coming back to this place as it is disgusting but also, we want our money back, no "we'll give you a discount bullshit", we want our $73 back, I know it may seem like a minuscule amount but we want it back as to not give anymore support to this disgusting place. read more

I've been to Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot chains all around GTA and even in HK. Out of all the locations in GTA that I've tried, this place by far is the BEST. Why do I say that? Their service is prompt, their food is fresh (especially the meat), other than the DIY sauces... everything is brought to your table, no need to run around to pick up your dishes. It seemed quiet when we first walked in, and we were contemplating if we should even eat there since there wasn't many people, but I'm so glad we did. This location however does not include drinks, so be mindful of that, and their small pots don't have yin yang (half & half) options, so you'll have to go with the big individual pot for an extra $4 if you want to have that option. If you're roaming around Ottawa searching for an asian spot to have dinner, give it a shot, you won't regret it! read more

We came to Little Sheep on Monday night around 7pm, it wasn't dead but also not too busy. We were sat at a big round table for 6 right away. The waiter was quick to bring us a pitcher of water and explain how everything works. It is a flat price per person, plus the price for each hot pot with broth. In our case; we chose 3 split hot pots (half spicy, half non-spicy) which was 5$ each. We were then told that we could place 3 orders total for meats, veggies and whatever else available on the menu. There's plenty on the menu and orders are fairly big. We only placed 2 orders and then we were full. For dinning, the menu is huge. We had so many choices, so much we were a bit overwhelmed. All types of proteins; mussels, shrimps, fish, beef, pork, lamb! I liked the lamb the best. Big variety of veggies too; cabbage, enoki mushrooms, watercress, broccoli, etc. Soft and fried tofu, quail eggs, tripe, and so on! The spicy broth was SPICY! BF and his family usually always order or make spicy broth, but this one was too spicy for all of them. I would caution anyone!! They did not enjoy it. The non-spicy broth was very good! Every time we placed an order for new items, it arrived very quickly. The hot pots are easy to handle, the hot plates get hot really fast so you don't have to wait long for things to cook in the broth. Overall a very good experience, we would return (but WON'T be ordered the spicy broth again!) Highly recommend for fans of hot pot! read more

I dont think ive ever been to a restaurant that has made me sick, me and my girlfriend came here for our first time trying hot pot and we both were sick by the time we were home. We made sure every bit of meat was cooked through to avoid this outcome but it seems either the sanitation or quality of the meat was off. Service was ok at best, nothing especially bad but we never really saw our waiter and when we were sitting down the table next too us (who also just sit down) took my girlfriends plate because they needed another, of course our waiter said nothing and returned 5 minutes later with a plate. Overall a terrible experience that was soured 2 mins from the front door. read more

This place is great! The quality of the food is good, much better than expected at an all you can eat restaurant. There are plenty of dipping sauce choices and many other ingredients to make your own custom dipping sauce, to your own liking. The atmosphere is very nice and the table and chairs are comfortable. This is good if you spend the hour or so it takes to eat three rounds of hot pot and a final round of dessert! read more

Upon arriving here around 6:30pm on a Saturday, the place was quite quiet. However more people did arrive as the night went on. I believe there was a line by the time we left at 8pm. In regards to the food, it's ok. Meat options available, sauces are there. Nothing too special unless you are looking for experience. I do like the hotpot soup bases. Having experienced the same restaurants in Toronto, I do have to say that the service was not as great. We were missing a few of our requested foods for at least two of the three rounds. Which was a real bummer. We had to constantly request our missing foods. Keep in mind that you could only order 3 times. Pot water refill was there, so definitely appreciate that. read more

So, the Mongolian Hot Pot is a take on basically Chinese Fondue (i.e. cook a lot of different items in a broth). It's an all you can eat place so if you have an appetite, you will be able to fill it. There are two (maybe more) types of broth that you can choose, spicy and I guess non-spicy. I had the non-spicy whereas the other half of our party had the spicy. Note: the spicy (a red broth) is spicy! There are numerous items you can choose from the cafeteria style shelves for your hot pot (fish, meat, vegetables) but keep in mind that most of the ingredients are... more Asian oriented (i.e. chicken hearts, fish balls). If that isn't your style, there are still enough items you can choose to fill your appetite. Personally though I wasn't a huge fan for a couple of reasons. One, the service was a bit lacking (at least the night we were there). The service was not quick at bringing what we ordered (basically the meat that comes with your broth and later when ordering another drink) and a lot of items were empty on the shelves and they weren't refilled until almost an hour later (as we were there for almost 2 hours). Two, the ingredients used aren't exactly fresh. Everything except the vegetables are frozen and left on the shelves to thaw or you cook from frozen in your broth. I guess this is the most practical way to do it but I can't help but prefer to do something like this at home with fresh ingredients. Third, due to the way the ingredients are set up on shelves with tongs that are left in the ingredients sometimes, I worried a bit about the hygiene aspect. I'm sure they could find a better way to keep the food. (Two days later though and no reaction but still...). All in all, I don't think I would go back but don't regret going. read more

Delicious! The price is good for what you get, especially if your party eats a lot of meat. Also, if you go when it's not very busy, they'll give your table a large booth which is nice! I would recommend the pork, lamb, fish and tripe. I also enjoyed the deep fried mini buns for dessert (I had never had them before but they were quite nice!) You're only allowed 3 rounds & a round of dessert but don't worry, you'll have enough food! We did our first round of everything, the second round of what we liked best, then the last round only one person ordered because the rest of us were too full. The place is clean & bright. The staff is friendly though their English isn't the best. For an Asian place, the service is good! read more

Verdict: A bit of a change from the old location, but it certainly appears to be a step up. So we had a hankering for some Mongolian Hot Pot, and stopped by the location on the corner of bank street and riverside drive only to realize it had closed. A quick google search showed it is now located on Merivale. Bit of a detour, but we wanted it, so we went anyway. When we arrived, we were told that it had literally opened yesterday, and given that was the case, they seemed well prepared for the lunch rush. If you have been to the old location, which was more interactive, this one is a sit down only, and you do not physically have to get up and go to select your vegetables. Everything is ordered off a "sushi style" paper menu, which you mark up and give to the waitress. My primary, and pretty much only complaint with this, is that if you are a first timer and/or are not familiar with the cuisine and naming conventions, you will likely not recognize half of the items on the menu. Consequently, the size of the portions you order are difficult to determine. Not a big gripe, but a gripe nonetheless. The food itself appeared to be really good quality, and the service was quick and very pleasant. I ordered the "spicy broth" and it was literally the perfect amount of spice. Not flamethrower "sign a waiver" kind of hot, but also not lacking in heat. If you're looking for something different, and don't mind experimenting with new types of food, give this place a try. Note: Bring cash. Given it has only been open for literally 2 days, they have not set up debit/credit payment yet, though there is an ATM on site. read more

The taste of the food is the only reason why I don't give one star. Went with my wife on a Friday night and I seriously think they were only 2 waiter. Service was really slow and food was not serve at the same time... and when I say not at the same time I mean we would have the lamb, 10 minutes after some vegetables and then a little more after and we had the noodle. And on every orders there was something missing... Water was never refilled, and at one point they brought slice raw chicken and raw beef in the same plate, I'm not an health inspector but I'm pretty sure it's not right... We waited 24 minutes to get our ice cream for dessert. I really don't recommend! read more

We've been to other hot pot restaurants in this chain, so we were a bit disappointed in comparison. The food is certainly at a great price for an all-you-can-eat, and even more so for a Little Sheep. However, the service wasn't up to par at all. Several times we checked off items on the order menu that simply weren't delivered (without explanation) or came significantly late. The soup base was salty and could have used refills too. On this weekday evening, more than half the restaurant was empty, yet tables whose patrons had left long ago went uncleaned. Overall, the food was tasty and comparable to that of other Little Sheep, but this place could use some training for their wait staff. read more

Here is the short version of my review: Go here. For those interested in the finer details: Mongolian Hot Pot is, technically an all-you-can-eat buffet, but it's not the kind of buffet you would normally expect. Essentially you are given a choice of meets, and a choice of broth (spicy or not). You then sit down and they bring you a small pot (or a large communal pot) with your broth. On your table is an element and you quite literally bring the broth to a boil and cook your own food. The main item (lamb, beef or pork) is brought to you on a plate. You then put your shaved meat in your broth and let it cook. BUT WAIT, there's more! Along with your main meat selection there is a whole selection of other items you can pick from to add to the broth- noodles, meats, veggies etc. Cook them, eat them, love them. It's an amazing, hands-on experience. The food quality is quite good. There are many more "Asian" ingredients that are not often found around these parts. There is also a selection of non-broth related items, some desserts and an area where you create your own sauce that you can dip your cooked creations in. And, as if that wasn't enough, non-alcoholic drinks are included in the superb price of less than $18. Ladies and gentlemen - we have a winner. read more

I had heard from several different people that Mongolian Hot Pot was amazing, and while I agree it is a must-try, I didn't share their enthusiasm. Believe me, I love Asian cuisine, and I especially love collaborative Asian cuisine. But I didn't find the quality and presentation of the food to be outstanding, as well as the sauces available. And the tables are awkward - I find them too wide, so you're really stretching for the pot. On the plus side, the variety of things you can put in your soup is great. I never thought I would have the chance to eat fungus. The beef and lamb they gave us was really beautiful and fresh. And the staff was attentive: they come around fairly often to refill your pot with broth. I conclude that it's worth checking out if you have money to burn and want to try something new. read more

After a long, hard day of ziplining in La Fleche, this was the best reward a girl could ask for! Fresh, healthy, full of nutrition and I get to play with my food (yippee!) All in all, a great bang for your buck, esp if you are into healthy food choices. read more

went to the restaurant last Saturday. We were a party of 8. Difficulties hearing what other people said at the other end of the table. Price is confusing and not transparent. 26.99$ +tax for a buffet but a hot post for an extra is required to cook your food. Tip is automatically added to your bill no matter what type of service you get. Don't even think of getting something for under $30. I would not recommend read more

I'm afraid I really didn't enjoy my experience. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavours (a little too authentic for my palate, maybe), but it really came down to cost vs. quality. So, it's 22$ per person. Plus 2.50-5$ for the soup base. Plus 2$ for soft drinks. So by the end of it all, it's over $30 per person! It's all you can eat - so if you have a big appetite for lots of meat, you can probably get your money's worth. But for a normal person, you're going to overpay. I was almost ready to walk out when I first saw the price, but by then the first was already taking our order and it seemed too late. It wouldn't be so bad if the quality of the food were better, but it's not. The chicken, for example, is all the darkest, slimiest dark meat - the kind that looks raw even when it's cooked. The garlic beef is also pretty gnarly. Dumplings come frozen. They were out of many menu items and sauce bar items. The fake crab tasted like the bottom of an old fish freezer. Contrary to some other comments I thought the service was absolutely fine. Having learned what items I do/don't like on the menu, I could probably stomach returning, but not at $30 per person. So, my final thoughts: If you eat a lot of meat, have a big appetite, and like Mongolian flavours? Do it up. Otherwise, avoid. read more

Sigh, this place could have had so much potential. From thier food handling to the upkeep, the place lacks the added care. Soup base was good and mongolie spices were clearly tasted. Warning, the spicy base is layered in dried chillis and watch out for the bok choi (not cleaned well). Food selection at the buffet and sauce station seemed a mess. Sharp contrast to other places where they regularily have staff dedicated to cleaning the drips and spills between the buffet dishes during dinner service. Not recommended. First time doing the Hot Pot thing, it's a very unique experience and would definitely recommend as a social experience, go with friends and plan for at least an hour and a half. I won't rehash the process, that was covered by other reviewers. You do get 3 'sides' to go with your meal, a pork rib, seaweed salad and raw potato salad. You can ask for more of these if you wish. What I did notice was that overall, this style of eating can accommodate most diets and intolerances based on your options and can be very healthy if you so choose. We went with the clear broth, my friends warned that the spicy is very spicy so we avoided it. We chose several different options, even though we shared a pot, we were able to pick out our own options from it. The broth is very flavorful and the ingredients are very fresh. Did run into some cleaning issues with the seaweed and watercress, but sand is unavoidable sometimes. Water and tea were frequently refilled and service was very friendly. The best part was that we were not rushed at all. Had plenty of time to sit and chat afterwards, enjoy some of the dessert options before we decided to leave. All in all great experience and I will be bringing my hubby here soon. read more

My boyfriend and I really enjoy having hotpot in the winter. There's nothing better than piping hot broth on a blistering cold night. The restaurant itself is great: new, modern and clean. Much nicer than the old location and the one in Montreal. The food is standard: lamb, beef, pork, vegetables, tofu and seafood. We ordered the spicy broth and it was good. However, the service was pretty subpar. Every time we ordered, something would be missing or they would bring us the wrong item. One of the waiters was great, and immediately brought us the right order. However, The other waiter's attitude was pretty terrible, and acted like we were an inconvenience. We'll chalk it up to inexperience, given that the staff seemed fairly young and new. Maybe next time it will be better. read more
