Also tried the wonton soup, the broth is tasty and the wontons are on point! My husband tried the Crab Egg Foo Yung, loved it! Ordering online was easy and upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find your typical hole in the wall Chinese spot. With a warmly lit atmosphere & little to no seating I was quickly greeted by the woman in charge to pay for my food. The customer service horrible I ordered chicken broccoli with plain fried rice, just bean sprouts they send me some dried ass chicken broccoli no sauce whatsoever and when I called to complain, they told me that if I want extra, I have to pay extra for the sauce, which makes no sense because chicken broccoli has brown sauce in it don't recommend. I guess I need to find a new Chinese restaurant. read more

How HAPPY is this GARDEN? Let us break this one down; shall we? Visually, this is your average Chinese spot and it is decently kept from when I had arrived. Menus laced the wall up near the ceiling and I began to place my order at the register. I was told that the wait time would be roughly 10 minutes and so I stepped back to make myself comfortable. There was some minor confusion as to what should be charged for my iced tea order and so the gentleman behind the counter placed a phone call to see how much he was supposed to charge and then I paid for my meal. Other employees arrived shortly thereafter and a young Woman bagged up my order and apologized for I was charged for a soda that was not on my order and so she gave it to me vs not telling me at all....Honesty is always a good policy and I appreciate them for it. Let us get into the small beef and broccoli, which was delightful upon my tastebuds. The beef was lean and not chewy at all....The sauce was your run of the mill sauce used in most Chinese Establishments that have been "Americanized" as often so put but it was good. A nice soft bite on my steamed broccoli and again, the flavor kept calling to my happy place where the inner/outer Fat Man in me is kept. Even the Sweet & Sour Chicken came through ever so subtle with EXTREME BITE BACK ENERGY! A fresh take on chicken well versed in the fried goodness of tomorrow, without even knowing it. The sauce was kept off to the side to enjoy the playful dipping action that was soon to follow. We are two for two with the meals but unfortunately my Pu Pu platter was POO POO MATTER!!! The ribs were an accident waiting to happen on tough street. Even the sauce for the ribs missed the mark and the way they were seared, you'd think all of the marks were highly visible but the sauce itself did not care. No flavor to be justified here as anything great but more on the basic side of life with confusion to become the base of it all. My wings never took flight. They looked fried but were DOA and all you could taste was the soy bean oil used to soak them in. My stomach was trying to run for the hills but I had more to do. Their beef sticks found comfort on the same tough street as their ribs for they were neighbors on this block and I could taste it. Again, lacking a flavor profile to adhere them to, we are just falling and failing at this point. There were egg rolls in there too and I was reluctant to take a bite but I tried it anyway and instantly regretted said decision. More disappointment than before at best and so while Happy Garden is good at some things, they can work on others but this does not make them terrible. Have ordered here for a couple years. Food has always been very good. This week we ordered and picked up. Came home and found 2 hairs in our food. Called to tell them, they were not going to make us another meal, not deliver it. Very disappointed...only thing they offered was refunding our money. Hair nets should be worn when handling food. Will no longer be a customer. I hope no one finds hair in their food. Totally unacceptable! They did not seem to be worried that customer found hairs in their food..Nothing more disgusting than to find someone's hair in your food. read more

Glad I tried this place! The rice was super good and general tsaos was lightly breaded. The crab ragoons weren't anything to brag about, barely any filling inside which was pretty disappointing. My husband had the boneless ribs which were good. All in all, we'd go back because it's close and a good price. read more

I was very hesitant about ordering from here based on the negative reviews but my boyfriend convinced me to give it a shot and I'm glad he did! The food was so good! We got the triple delight, amazing chicken, and shrimp chow fun. The amazing chicken was truly amazing! It was very unique and not like any dish I've had at other Chinese restaurants. I highly recommend trying it! The triple delight was good but was pretty standard. The sauce was a little thicker than usual and there were only three pieces of shrimp in it. The shrimp chow fun was awesome though! Very flavorful! If you're looking for a good Chinese restaurant this is it! We've added it into our go-to restaurant rotation. read more

This place is the best Chinese-Japanese take out in the area and i order from here at least once a week. It is located across from McDonald's in a small store-strip with parking right in front. A previous review stated that "woman at the counter is very rude", which i believe is a misrepresentation. She can be brisk sometimes but i notice that is because they receive so many orders. She handles all the phone calls, checks all the orders before packing them up, takes care of side orders and makes sure the delivery driver know what orders are going were. If your not a regular you would never notice this and i have received a smile from her when they not extremely busy. There was also one time when I was in a rushing, i pickup my order not noting that i forgot part it and was about to leave the parking lot, when suddenly her and her young daughter came running over and stopped me and handed me my forgot items with a smile. The food is always good quality and well prepared. The kitchen is always clean. I always enjoy their Philly rolls and sweet potato rolls. Their fried rice and white rice is the best. And their wanton soup is not overly salty unlike many of the other Chinese take-outs in the area. Their dumplings also come with a really yummy dipping sauce. They do have 2 tables next to each other that you can use if you choose to eat there, but they are mainly used by customers waiting for their orders. So, if you are looking for really good Chinese or Japanese take-out in the area, then come here. read more

I was really impressed with this restaurant. First of, my mother and I have really bad food sensitivities to garlic and asked for no garlic. They were able to accommodate and we got shrimp lo mein, beef and broccoli, and chicken with string bean without garlic. The food was excellent and fresh. We got it for take out with shrimp dumplings as well which were great. I think this is a really solid and accommodating American - style Chinese food restaurant that seems to be using high quality ingredients. I'm rating this kinda in a two part sort of thing. Two stars is in the middle. One star is for the service. The lady is extremely brisk and stand offish. For example, today I called to order take out. Here's our convo. "Happy Garden" "Hi id like to order two egg rolls and white rice for pickup" (weird I know lol) "Thank you" Hangs up. That's it. No wait time or anything so I assumed I had a bad connection or something and called back. Told her my exact order again and she said "you just called" I said yes, and she said 5 minutes and hung up again! I was using the blue tooth in my car and myself, my boyfriend and our friend were all left speechless. Three stars for the food. The woman at the counter is very rude!? I noticed after patronizing the restaurant many times, that I never had napkins. I made it point to ask on my next visit, and she huffed her disapproval. On another occasion, my friend and I called in or order for a lunch special. Turns out it was one minute after they stopped lunch...she coldly said simply "no!", and hung up. End of conversation!? Thinking back to previous visits, I'd remember her being brusk with customers who weren't sure which dish to choose. It's subtle, but her bad attitude is cold. Fierce Berlin Chinese food rival Hunan Wok II is geographically closer to my home, so it's taken some time to finally put my hand in the cookie jar here. Since I happened to pass it on the way home one Saturday evening, I figured I'd change things up. The typical list of dinner specials is featured here - a pile of meat, a pile of rice, and an egg roll or soup for about $7.50, give or take a few cents depending on the dish. Our main dishes were excellent. The lo mein was fattier than Susan Boyle's diet on Easter Sunday. The chicken with garlic sauce was tangier than Bruno Tonioli's reaction to a perfect celebrity dance. The egg rolls and wonton soup were as solid as Matthew McConaughey's abdominals. But sadly, the fried rice was as limp and flavorless as Jennifer Aniston's love life since 2005. Despite the minor disappointment in the side dish, Happy Garden is a nice hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint... though I still think I prefer Hunan Wok II by just a smidge. Sorry. : / read more

So my cousin and I just ordered from this place, google says they had 4.0 stars and after the shit show I just experienced I'm dumb founded....we ordered a beef and broccoli and a bunch of other stuff. The beef and broccoli never arrived so we decided to call and ask what happened. We weren't rude in the beginning and to be honest I even hate calling places back but they messed our order up. So we started talking to the girl and she was like it wasn't on the order, mind you I gave my order had her read it back, I then proceeded to reread the order back and then I had her read it back again. So there should have been a beef and broccoli which she then replied to oh I didn't put it in the order. I'm like ok how are you going to tell me that you took food off the order. So I kindly asked hey can we get a replacement order of beef and broccoli since that order was missing and she said no because we didn't pay for it. But we didn't get a chance to pay for it because she didn't put it in the system. Upon looking at the menu and adding up prices we in fact paid for the beef and broccoli but never received anything. On top of all of that she didn't give us a receipt to prove that she "didn't screw up". And then she Condescendingly apologized like she didn't care and wanted us to pay another $13.95 to give us another beef and broccoli, which in fact is actually only $8.95. I WILL NEVER order from them again!!!!! I'm disgusted at the way we were treated and truthfully their food is shit anyway. read more

Great portion sizes and tasty sushi. I have been going since they opened and their chicken and broccoli is to die for! Staff can sometimes be a bit stand off-ish, but still the food is great. The sushi is by all means not gourmet, but its tasty and fair priced. Overall, decent take out! read more

Ordered food normally very quick. Took 1 hour to be delivered. Items were missing I called to have them delivered I was told by sandy 30 to 40 minutes after 90 minutes I called. The woman who takes orders routinely hangs up without giving the total or estimated delivery time or even asking if it's cash or card. The last time I called, she hung up before I was able to ask the total and when I called back she told me she hung up because I was all set and hung up again. When I called to express my dismay with her attitude, she was extremely rude again. We have been ordering from HG since they first opened. They have been pretty consistent for the most part. When they first opened, they were a 5 STAR restaurant. They are now just a low end 4 star, due to the food quality. I am not sure if they are buying cheaper quality ingredients or perhaps changed suppliers, but we have noticed a marked decline since the summer of 2015. Over the past 10+ years, we have ordered just about everything on the menu. The brown sauce now has a "different/funny" taste. It used to be the best brown sauce in the area. Have they changed the recipe? The shrimp now have a moldy taste at the tail. I know this happens to cheap frozen shrimp that you buy at Stop n Shop, but this is a new thing at HG. Have they changed suppliers? I wish YELP had a section where the owners of the restaurants could either reply or comment on reviews. It would place YELP a step above the others. We hope that the owners of HG read these reviews and take them seriously. I don't leave many reviews, but I felt this needed to be said. For the sake of everyone, please check your food supply and make adjustments as needed. I really want to raise my rating to 5 stars, but the food needs to get back to the higher quality that you used to serve back when you opened. read more

I never do reviews but this I had to report! I ordered my usual from this place which was always great and this time I experienced my worse nightmare.... Food poisoning! In detail coming from my wonton soup that had MOLD on it.. I thought I was going crazy but I showed my bf who is a nerdy lab tech so he knew for sure it indeed was old molded wonton wrappers! On top of that they had a nasty old fridge taste! The meat inside twisted my stomach shortly after eating it. We then called to explain they kept hanging up on us! I will never deal with these people again! Everyone must know whether they pre-make the wonton and have them sit for so long they don't care they go bad. Yes a little mold won't kill you but considering the meat inside!? How dare you chance that and serve it to people! I will be taking further action! read more

Berlin's "Happy Garden" is a typical Chinese takeout place with an add-on "Japanese" menu including sushi etc. Both the the Chinese and Japanese dishes are surprisingly good: Sesame chicken combo, Bean Curd Szechuan style, Japanese-restaurant-style green salad with ginger dressing, miso soup, etc. etc. The sweet potato sushi is a standout, and the other vegetable sushis are nicely done; can't vouch for the raw fish, but maybe it's good. This is a very good takeout place, we've been getting stuff there for years and have never been disappointed. read more
