On this days adventure I found myself at "Happy Dragon" in the New Braunfels area. It's an Asian Cuisine restaurant with a good menu selection. But let me begin from the beginning, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the establishment is located in a strip mall close to Lowe's, you have plenty of parking and as you enter you can view a good amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As you approach the counter you can see the menu on the wall but there is also paper menus. The personnel are charming and helpful to guide you through the menu. So now the most important part for a restaurant, I chose the "Egg Rolls" to begin my journey, then I selected the "General Tso's Chicken" a personal favorite of mine. The dish comes your choice of different items to accompany your meal I choose the Crab Rangoons with Wonton Soup. So let me start with the egg rolls, they were crunchy, tasteful and with sweet and sour sauce made them wonderful. Now the wonton soup with the crispy wontons was another great addition with the flavor of a well made soup. Now the main dish, the general tso's chicken, was excellently cooked and very delicious the fried rice was equally delicious and the crab rangoons were very tasty. Yuck, yuck, yuck! Dry as dust. No sauce on any of the two dishes we ordered. Sauces offered as "extra" at a charge.....weren't the type on the chicken.....stuffing the container doesn't make it good. I eat here at least once a week sometimes two. I always order the same thing. Hot and sour soup. This time the soup was completely different. Had an odd milky brown appearance and was almost tasteless as compared to the usual dark brown broth. When they brought to my table I asked what it was she was bringing since I didn't recognize it at all. She confirmed it was the Hot and sour soup. The spicy egg drop soup was DELICIOUS ! I wish I would've ordered a large of just that! Highly recommend it! First review I've ever needed to post. This was the worst Chinese delivery order we have ever received. The food came quick I'll say that but we'll not be returning after the $89 of garbage. Let's start with the sesame chicken and fried rice.. you couldn't even pull the pieces apart it was mushed together and the ones that we were able to eat were rubbery and chewy. The fried rice was bland and had burnt oil taste to it. We had the Mongolian beef which was tender but did not taste anything like Mongolian style beef. As if it was watered down and just a small amount of spice which was the only flavor that stood out. The vegetable though had a taste of plastic and was very unpleasant. Along with this our cheese Rangoon were colored as if cooked correctly but when trying to get after it we had to chew on it as if it was raw hide. A dab of cream cheese filled 1/8th of the whole thing. This was a go to at one point a few years back. Thank god I ordered the kids sweet and sour chicken the sauce comes on the side and the only thing that was correctly cooked was the chicken pieces. That was crispy and the kids passed on the fried rice. The soups were well just soups we had the special wanton- egg drop- sweet and sour. It was ok. Last of all the a la cart family order of pork lo mein. Hard pass the pork has a foul smell and the noodles were sticky and dry. I passed all together and my wife tried to make me feel better by eating a little of this horrible meal. Last thing I'm writing this from the bathroom as I'm trying to get my wits back from my stomach ruining my evening. I've never written a review before but this had me turn a page in the book. Gave this place a second chance and it was not good again. Got beef lo mein and it had a really heavy ginger flavor so much so that we just trashed it. Broccoli beef didn't really taste like anything, the rice it came with was old and had crunchy bits. Chicken pad thai was ok. The rangoons were too hard to eat. Egg flour soup didn't taste good and the forgot the egg rolls. When I called the lady was nice and said she could send them out but there were no delivery drivers right now so it'd be a wait. I ordered delivery due to there being no places where I live. I had heard about this place on a local Facebook group. Let me tell you...this place is complete garbage. Panda Express a chain place has better food than this place. There is nothing authentic about this at all. I would have had better food if I bought a frozen box dinner at the grocery store. It would have been better. I'm not even convinced this place doesn't just reheat frozen garbage and send it out. The General Tso chicken was complete trash. The chicken tasted reheated abd lacked freshness. The sauce it was cooked in horrible, tasted unlike anything I've had, definitely not what I expected as far as general tso chicken I've tried. The egg rolls also horrible. Like a frozen pack tossed in a fryer and served. My wife got the Kung pao chicken and couldn't finish it. She made herself other food it was so bad. The fried dumplings tasted like plastic. The fried rice that came with the meal was hard and tasteless. It was barely fried. Like someone mixed a little soy sauce in it and microwaved it. Being in New Braunfels maybe they can get away with this because the tourists it's one and done regardless. But I can't ever see myself going there. I'll drive to universal city myself snd go to China moon or Shanghai. This is what i get for not wanting to go pick it up myself. I doubt there is any sort of Chinese influence to this food.
