Food was decently priced and good portions. Soup was a little slimy not my thing. Chicken fried rice was okay. Wish I got it without chicken, had a weird taste to it. I enjoyed the general chicken the most! Service was good no complaints, food came out super fast . Overall could have been a little cleaner inside. I would go back for their chicken.

Whoa. I did a takeout order from Happy Dragon. I got tofu, broccoli, shiitake mushrooms in garlic sauce, vegetable lo mein, veggie fried rice, and some veggie egg rolls. Total cost: $50 (w/ tip) They do not serve boba (the guy upfront said they stopped serving boba once COVID hit) anymore, but they offer it on a dry erase board right up front... The ambiance of this place is pretty sad. One side of the restaurant is completely dark and the other side is very dim, not a romantic dim, but dreary. Most of the people who came in took takeout. The food itself wasn't bad.

Made our way here while trying to find a place that was open between lunch and dinner service. The service was actually very attentive and nice even though our waiter sounded a little gruff at first. The sheer number of options on the menu was very impressive. We got a few different things to try and every was cooked well and properly seasoned. The crispy rice soup really hit the spot today with the gloomy weather. There was also a lot of vegetarian options for those looking for that. The slightly higher cost is justified by the big portions. We would not hesitate to stop by again!

This place is a little bit pricey for what you get. I can't say the food had any taste, and the service was good but it's simply not worth the money and there are much better places around. And I ordered the Kung pao squid and rice. The portion size was small and the squid was overcooked.

I like it for carry out. It's not fancy. It's not special. But it is perfectly fine Chinese food for a reasonable price.

We ordered a wide variety: pork potstickers, veggie egg rolls, crab rangoons, a small hot and sour soup, General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, chicken fried rice, beef chow mein, and honey wall chicken wings. Overall, the food was good for classic Chinese takeout, though the flavors were on the mild side. We're originally from South Louisiana where food is very well seasoned, so this may come down to personal taste (and California tending to have a lighter seasoning style). Even so, the seasoning could have been a little stronger across the board. Spice-wise, everything was extremely mild--our six-year-old could eat everything easily. Next time, I'd probably skip the hot and sour soup (I've had better elsewhere) and the fried rice. The rice had way too many peas and not enough carrots, and the ratio felt off. That said, this is still the best Chinese food we've had in Monterey by far. It doesn't even compare to the other places we've tried, and we'll definitely be ordering again--just knowing to ask for extra seasoning or spice.

A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

The lunch specials are pretty good and reasonably priced, especially for this area. There were only two servers working: a younger woman handling cleanup and table setup, and a senior woman taking orders and serving food. The workflow felt a bit unorganized -- it would be smoother if they backed each other up. Overall, the lunch specials were solid and a good value here.

It opened, closed abruptly and then closed again after having very spotty service. I would often call the Monterey Jacks to see what was going on with the Aptos store. Despite it being the same business, the staff at both were always put off by my genuine questions. Especially given that I LOVE thier food and have written very positive reviews. When I called to find out why the Aptos location closed again without notice, it was like I was majorly inconveniencing them. Maybe, thank you for your loyalty. I literally ate their food at least 4 times a week. And I will go to the Monterey store to get those little dumplings I love so much. But maybe instead of treating customers like their love of your food is an inconvenience, have some skills at turning the experience to a win. So I ask here, why did Jacks Aptos shut down again?

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.
