I tried this place yesterday, although the food was excellent, it was very pricey, $38.00 b4 tip, i ordered 1 war won ton soup (medium) they didnt have a small & 1 order of fried rice, the inside was clean & looked nice

I used to go here as a kid whenever we'd visit Monterey, and I'm glad it continues to live up to the fond memories I'd have of reading over the paper zodiac placemats and looking up to the colorful ceiling I shared the sizzling rice soup and the snow pea beef. It was my first time trying sizzling rice soup, and I thought it was such an interesting concept! The server poured the rice into the soup and it indeed immediately sizzled, which was so fun to watch. Each spoonful of the soup was light, and filled with so many different toppings like water chestnut, chicken, bamboo shoots, shrimp, mushrooms, etc. It felt so hearty and perfect for a cold and windy Monterey day. The snow pea beef was also very solid. I liked how tender the beef was, and the snow peas were very crisp There were seriously too many options and it was a bit overwhelming to look at the menu, but I'll need to come with a larger group so I can sample more dishes

Place looked clean. Food was okay - 6/10. The thing that threw me off was their water. You know how tap water tastes different and you can automatically tell that it's tap? Well this water was that x10. It was so disgusting. I saw the customers at the table next to us literally SEND THE WATER BACK! That's how you know it's bad. You can even taste that tap water in the ice in our sodas. But what really upset me was when we were checking out. There were 3 ladies just watching my husband pay and look to see if he was going to tip or not. That is so unprofessional and very rude.

Beautiful restaurant that is extremely clean! The owner is so friendly and makes you feel welcomed immediately! All dishes are shareable sizes, and there is always food to take home! There is not a single item I would not recommend on their menu! Everything I have tried has been excellent! Their walnut shrimp/chicken is the most delicious thing I've ever had! Every food dish comes served fresh out of the wok! Steaming hot, full of flavor, and very fresh! I highly recommend eating here for good Chinese food! The prices are above average, but I'm telling you with how fresh and flavorful the food is, it's worth the price!

I've enjoyed countless dinners at Chef Lee's Mandarin House over the years, and each visit has been consistently excellent. Today's lunch was no exception--it was truly outstanding. I was struck by how the restaurant's elegant architecture is just as beautiful in the daytime as it is striking when illuminated at night. Specializing in Northern Chinese cuisine, Chef Lee's offers an extensive menu filled with lots of flavorful favorites. We began with perfectly prepared Chicken Potstickers served with a savory dipping sauce, followed by the exceptional Walnut Shrimp--crispy, sweet, and perfectly seasoned. The Shrimp Chow Fun, with its wide rice noodles, was absolutely delicious, and the Chicken Fried Rice complemented everything wonderfully. Generous portions offered great value, leaving plenty for me to take home and enjoy later. Service was friendly, efficient, and attentive, and I especially love dining in the spacious, beautifully decorated rooms that create a refined, yet comfortable atmosphere with beautiful Chinese accents. Chef Lee's is always ideal for family meals, friendly get-togethers, or business lunches. When I inquired, I was also reminded that they can easily accommodate groups of 25, 50, or even 100 guests--perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, wedding receptions, celebrations of life, and other gatherings, with a wide selection of tasty appetizers and entrees to suit every palate. It is open from 11 am - 9:30 pm so you can dine anything like I did today with a later lunch. An award-winning restaurant since 1981, annually voted "Best Chinese Restaurant" in Monterey County, Chef Lee's has been the recipient of numerous awards year after year. Conveniently located right off Highway 1 on North Fremont with a large parking lot, it's easy to see why Chef Lee's Mandarin House remains a beloved local favorite including mine. Highly recommended!

The food was awful. And the lady working there was very rude. No wonder they didn't have any customers on a Friday night.

I followed directions…read moreand it took me to a little patio tucked away next to a bank - there was an open door to a kitchen and the patio had two plastic tables and chairs. A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

Unfortunately, the chow mein was one of the worst I've had. It was mostly noodles with very little meat, and the meat that was included tasted old. I ended up throwing away at least half of it. Normally, I would have sent it back, but since it was a delivery order that wasn't practical. I had hoped to save some for leftovers, but the quality wasn't good enough to justify reheating. I also ordered two char siu baos, but after my experience with the rest of the meal, my expectations are pretty low. My biggest concern was the packaging. None of the food was sealed in any way. The chow mein container had popped open during transit and was handed to me already open. The other takeout container wasn't taped or sticker-sealed either, and the soup came in a plastic container with no seal at all. In my opinion, restaurants using delivery services should place tamper-evident stickers or tape on all containers. Food should not be arriving open or capable of popping open during delivery. The lack of sealing was concerning and did not inspire confidence. The soup was also only about half full, which made me wonder whether some had spilled during transit or if that was the intended portion size. Overall, the beef with broccoli was merely okay, the chow mein was very disappointing, and the packaging raised concerns. Based on this experience, I do not plan to order from or visit this restaurant again.

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.

The Pad Thai was definitely the highlight, perfectly cooked noodles coated in a rich, balanced sauce, and the beef was tender and flavorful. You really can't go wrong with it. The Panang Curry was also very enjoyable. The curry itself was creamy and full-bodied, and pairing it with rice really brought out the depth of flavor. I ordered it with chicken, which was good, but I do wish there had been a bit more of it. The Tom Kah Kai was incredibly rich and aromatic. The broth had a deep, comforting flavor, and the mushrooms were surprisingly the star, soaking up the soup and adding an extra layer of umami that made each bite better than the last. Service was fast and attentive, with the staff consistently checking in and keeping water filled, which I appreciated. The ambiance had a nice, authentic feel that really complemented the meal and made the whole experience more immersive.
