I tried giving this place a shot 3 or 4 separate times and everytime I got a variety of stuff. I got the general gaus chicken there and it wasn't good. Every piece of chicken was so chewy. I had to legit chew and spit them out cause the pieces were hard and didn't break down. The egg roll tasted odd so I didn't finish that. The homemade duck sauce just taste like apple sauce. The fried rice wasn't great either. I found a better place 10 minutes further so I wont be going back here now! read more

My wife and I frequent Happy Dragon at least every other week. The food is great tasting and portions are large. The owner, Lily, and staff are what bring us back time and time again. We ordered a tid bit plate that included boneless ribs, an egg roll, chicken fingers and chicken wings. The ribs were meaty, lightly sauces and moist. Hubby enjoyed the wings while I devoured the egg roll. The chicken fingers were filled with chicken and delicious. I love the dark duck sauce; most are light and way too sweet. The Happy Dragon Pan Fried Noodles was excellent. Lots of fresh veggies, Shrimp, chicken and beef and all stir fried perfectly. The noodles are crispy with just the right amount of oyster sauce. Enjoyed the bar; bright but not too bright. Struck up a conversation or two with other first timers. Next time we will try the dumplings and garlic wings. They both looked and smelled wonderful on the plates delivered next to me. Sue, our bar tender was attentive but not intrusive and seemed at ease covering the many patrons seated at the new larger bar. We will definitely be back. read more

Fast forward a couple of months to this past weekend; we decided to give it another shot. I ordered some general gau chicken; it was probably the worst order of gau I've ever had. My wife and I ate here twice a month before COVID-19. We are about to go back in August for takeout for the first time since COVID-19 breakout. You can't sit at the bar now. Whatever food we had was always quite good. We especially liked the Kung Pao Chicken which was very flavorful and had just the right degree of spice. The lady bartender was great and the counter people always friendly and efficient. We haven't had much experience with the wait staff. The service for takeout was always very fast (10-15 minutes). Excited to see a new Chinese joint local.... But.... Went with a party of three at 5pm. Nothing.... NOTHING was practiced by staff let alone kitchen. Ordering a mixed drink? Don't. Bartenders are not trained in making even the basic mixed drinks associated with Chinese restaurants. My suffering bastard was grapefruit juice and white rum in a short whiskey glass. Nope . No colored rum, no fruit, no straw, NO TRAINING. Food? Appetizers came out one at a time, 2 main meals came out after 45 minutes..... my meal came out when i asked for the check, which i politely just asked to take home. No rolls available. Went there last night; pork fried rice was dry and cold, their spring roll is a tiny roll, not like at other restaurants where they are flat and wider. No bread offered, and no tea came with the meal. Was very disappointed and will not be returning. Service was prompt and seated right away. The restaurant was quite empty when we got there. We went here for the first time last night , we were seated right away (place was pretty empty , i was nervous at this point) our waitress came over and took our drink orders right away , she was nice but very soft spoken . Boyfriend had a suffering bastard and then a Mai tai . He said both were good and strong . I had a Pepsi. We both got dinner plates for our meals . The portions were huge !! The price was great . I got the happy dragon fried rice ( same as house rice) it was great . Boyfriend got chicken fried rice , said they could ease up on the soy sauce. I disagreed. Chicken fingers , chicken wings, boneless spareribs, crab rangoon , beef & chicken teriyaki was all great . The general gaus chicken was the star of the night it was the best we have had . Bill was $48 and change plus tip . We spent $60.00 all together and it was worth it . Glad we have a Chinese restaurant that we enjoy so close to our new home . Another snow day today so I thought I would take my 9 yr old son here to finally check it out. I'm picky about my Chinese food and normally go to Royal Garden in Kingston. When we walked in we were seated right away. I started off just ordering some tea. I was keeping it simple today and just ordered some fried rice and a pupu platter. I asked if I could substitute fried shrimp for pork strips. We don't have pork strips she says. Ok, I like pork strips. That's a first for me so that was disappointing.. While waiting I sipped my tea and it really wasn't hot enough. I have to say most Chinese food places I've been too the tea is usually too hot to even drink. The tea needs to be hot. How difficult is that? I then asked the waitress for some bread while we waited. She said we don't have bread. I said what? You don't have bread?? She says No. NO BREAD! Hahaa!! I asked her if a lot of people have asked for bread. She said yes. I asked her why don't you have bread? She was annoyed with me. I didn't care. She then told me that new restaurants do not have bread. Okayyyyy... So, we waited longer than usual for our food. The pupu platter finally came out on a plate with no flame. Wrong!! I need flame, sorry. Wasn't impressed with the food either. Not very good and we kept the order easy. Also no pineapple with the fortune cookies. Very disappointed and my son wasn't impressed either. We won't be going back. It's too bad because it's close, but we'll be driving over to Royal Garden in Kingston next time we want Chinese. And hot tea. And bread!!! read more

Nope. Read the reviews which seemed good, but make no mistake--this is not a restaurant that anyone should ever recommend. It wasn't crowded, but our pupu platter for 2 and fried rice took forever to show up and when it did, everything was cold. Not room temp. Cold. I ordered a glass of Cabernet, which tasted like 1/2 of some sort of red wine and 1/2 grape juice. The batter on the shrimp was barely cooked, cold, and greasy. The crab rangoons were cold, congealed and greasy, and I'm pretty sure the fried rice had been sitting around all day since it was a dish filled with cold clumps of rice. Our server was nowhere to be seen--otherwise, we would have sent everything back. When we were done--which did not take long, we sat for a very long time while our waitress made an appearance on the other side of the restaurant wiping tables, looking around, wiping more tables, then she went missing again for a bit. She never came to our table to ask how everything was. She dropped the food at our table, and never came back until it was time to give us the check. It's almost insulting that this restaurant thinks it's ok to serve food like that, and the wine? It was simply awful. Two sips of it were enough for me. I was going to send it back, but I never had the chance. I wanted to like this restaurant. I really did. But the best thing I can say is next time we want Chinese food, we'll know better than to come here. read more

We had a nice smile from our waitress when we were seated and it just went downhill from there. We got two Mai Tai's that had a cherry in them, no other fruit.I asked for fruit and the waitress brought me a very small wedge of lemon and lime on a napkin. No little dish, a napkin in her hand. Flavor of the drink was ok otherwise. We ordered the spring roll appetizer and that was a little greasy and not very flavorful. My wife got Won ton soup . She took one bite and said something is wrong, will you try this. I took one bite and spit it into her bowl, it was that foul. Rotten meat ! My hot and sour soup had an ok flavor and was really really hot ( spicey) which is rare. I like things very hot and ive never had hotter so I was excited to get the Kung Pao Beef. Unfortunately they forgot to put ANY heat in it. My wife hates hot and she could eat it without any problem. The flavor was ok otherwise. My wife got the delight of three, shrimp, chicken and beef with vegetables. Again it was ok but the shrimp was farm raised not wild caught and otherwise it was nothing special just ok. The Golden dragon fried rice we ordered was also just ok, nothing to write home about. The waitress never even said sorry for the rotten food, not that its her fault but how about some empathy! She took it off the bill but nothing else in the way of fixing things. We talked to the hostess on the way out about our disappointment and she seemed truly caring about out issues. She didnt take anything off the bill but did say to ask for her the next time we come in but heh, why would I want to go back for rotten food. read more

Went opening night. Stupid in line for 10 to be seated. What it mean if the dining room was empty. Finally after 10 minutes I had to get up and hunt down some menus. At this point we have been there for about 20 minutes and still haven't even ordered a drink or been introduced to our waitress. I had to go looking for someone so I could order some sodas. Finally the waitress came over we ordered sodas, tea and our food. The waitress property. One single cup of tea. I said no we wanted a pot of tea and she snapped "that's all we have". I tried for several minutes to get a refill on my soda when I finally got the waitress to come by, I asked her for a refill she said "we don't do refills" and walked away. That's it I had it. I went up to the counter and told the manager everything that happened. He said "I'm sorry we only had one waitress and she walked out." You only hire one way to restore a restaurant that big in for opening night. I told him that was no excuse and if they weren't prepared to open they shouldn't have. He was apologetic and gave us our meal for free. He also told us they do do refills on sodas she probably just didn't want to get it. So I will try it again in the hopes that they just weren't ready for opening night. I will let you know how it goes . read more

We order takeout from here quite often as it's delicious fresh food and a convenient location. The portions are generous and the food is always ready when promised. While another former favorite Chinese restaurant in the area was unwilling to make substitutions to accommodate allergies, Happened Dragon has never once given us a problem. We have been here several times to dine. Service is lackluster but food is good with generous portions. We had the PuPu platter, General Gao's chicken, and beef lo mein to feed our party of three. All food came out at the same time, and pretty quickly. Everything was hot and fresh. We had to ask for white rice for the General Gao's dish. Tea was served upon request. After stuffing ourselves, we still had plenty to pack up for a lunch tomorrow. Go for the food and you'll not be disappointed. read more

7/27/18 Not the first time we've eaten here and although I never thought it was great it was at least good and fresh. Not many choices in this area it's close and the food was eatable so we Tonight however if I could have given less than 1 star I would have. Spent almost $80 for a PuPu for 2, extra crab Rangoon, Peking ravioli, Sesame Beef, veg egg foo young and veg fried rice. I was excited to see the portions and the 1/2 of a quart of duck sauce but all of it was disappointing. The chicken fingers, shrimp, egg rolls and crab Rangoon all looked and tasted as if they where purchased and not made fresh, ribs where thin and greasy and had a bad after taste that is making me nauseous just thinking about it. The rice was burnt, the sesame beef was grizzly and mostly batter that didn't taste like it was fully cooked, and it didn't even taste like they used the correct spices. Lastly the egg foo young looked like it was made and then frozen and reheated, gross and greasy. The only ok part of the meal was the Peking ravioli and that was just ok! I don't feel well now so going to have to wait until tomorrow to return it hopefully they will give me a refund even if they don't they can still have it back! I wanted to add that they did refund me they apologized that I did not like the food, that they can't please everyone! I did let them know it wasn't about liking the food, it was inedible. After reading the other reviews maybe I caught them on a bad night. But here we go. My wife has some restriction so we ordered a Lo Mein and Beef rice with no MSG and No Onions. The rice was ok but the Lo Mein had plenty of onions. Also ordered a platter to go with it. Evidently over cooked pork strips is to a poo poo platter what onion rings are to a seafood platter. Too many and dry. The Eggs rolls were cold and overcooked. Basically everything in it was dry and overcooked. This use to be a spots bar and it does not distinguish itself as anything but. Service was fair at best and the food was subpar. It's been some time since I went out for chinese and thing either have changed or the Happy dragon just doesn't have it . No rolls, water or tea was servered or offered and not once did the watress ask if everything was ok. I would have liked another drink but it was too hard to get our watresses attention. Not likely I would recommend or try here again. So to recap - Poor decor, Poor service and Poor Food. But if you want to drink they still have a hugh bar. read more

Disregard the one star. It's a zero star. Negative stars even. Do not go here!!! I've given this place a few tries and the food has NEVER been good. The last visit was the worst. My girlfriend ordered a draft Stella. It had white things floating in it. We pointed it out to the bartender. She poured another and it was the same. She handed it to the gf and said it's fine. It wasn't. It tasted horrible and she couldn't even drink it. It was mold. They don't clean the taps obviously. At this point we were nervous about getting food but it was late and everything else closes early around here so we got some takeout. I got egg foo young which I threw out because it looked like they spit on it. The fried rice smelled like feet. No joke. The only things that were edible were the veggie lo mein and crab rangoon. I will never set foot in this place again until it becomes something else. Which by the looks of the barren parking lot when I drive by will hopefully be soon. I don't know-people curios that it's new??? Not Great at all! I consider this an American version of Chinese food. Not authentic at all-very American style! Food blah! Drinks watery and definitely don't order a traditional style mix drink because you'll be sadly disappointed-heavy on coke syryp, no fruit and NO umbrellla:( Waitresses were pretty clueless on answering menu questions. They took food off one table to bring to me because the overly helpful kitchen staff was falling down to fill his buddy's order!
