We loved this place so much that we stopped back a second time for carryout on our drive back to Boston! We first wandered in on a cold, rainy afternoon and were immediately charmed by the cozy atmosphere. The service was warm and welcoming, and everywhere we looked, steaming plates of comfort food were making their way to happy diners. The cod Reuben with sweet potato fries was outstanding, and the clam chowder was exceptional. In fact, after trying chowder at six different places during our trip, my husband and I both agreed this was our favorite by far. The shepherd's pie looked incredible as it passed our table, but we'll have to save that for next time. Went to Dillon's while in Plymouth for work and my coworkers and I tried this place out for lunch. I got the lobster Bisque and a shrimp Caesar salad. It's a pretty small place, but they were able to seat 5 people fast. My food was all at the right temperature they were supposed to be at. My salad was huge and they are not stingy with the shrimps, they were fresh and big. My Lobster Bisque was great, I got a cup and regretted not getting a bowl. We stopped by Dillon's before a show at The Plymouth Memorial Hall. This was our third visit, and the food has been consistently good every time. The staff is very friendly, even during the dinner rush when there are shows in town. The place is a little dark, but it's a pub -- that's part of the atmosphere. I started with an Allagash Ale while my wife had water. I always seem to gravitate toward the fish and chips, which are consistently crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. While visiting Plymouth Rock area, we went by Yelp reviews to choose Dillon's Local. We wanted to be away from the congestion of the square. Local merchants did not recommend this place but once they told us the names of the ones they liked were right next door, we felt they were just being good business neighbors. So we stayed the course and glad we did. Small place with attached free parking. Bar vibe but a great selection of food. We all received our dishes super hot and fresh. French Onion is a must and if any soup broth is left save it for the steak and cheese sub that needs to be ordered. Cheesy with mushrooms onions and red peppers. I ordered an appetizer as my main- mahi mahi lettuce wraps. Great flavor and perfect size for one as entree or to be shared. Fish and Chips delicious! Whiskey Bacon Cheeseburger was good. I was in the area for yet another specialist appointment and was not feeling in the best spirit. Since it was a fasting appointment, I was pretty hungry so the hubby brought me here. I got the bourbon steak tips with steak fries and opted for a garden salad instead of the green beans - yes, yes, and yes! Steak tips were perfectly flavorful and cooked just right for my taste. I really wanted fries and (unlike some of my family/friends) I actually like steak fries and they were cooked up just the way I like'em (crisp outside, not too mushy on the inside). The salad though, yah it was basic and yet not - all kinds of different colored tomatoes which actually had great flavor to them, and it was not just a couple but quite a few and they were "fresh". That is basically what I loved about the salad - not your typical anemic looking/tasting salad but with mixed greens (not just lame looking iceberg) and full of other veggies. The server also could not have been nicer (like I said I went through a lot that day so seeing a friendly face was nice) and always checking on us. There's something about this bar that feels very home-y from the second that you walk in. It's a very "cozy" restaurant but everytime I go there it is always filled with people and I understand why. The staff is very friendly and thankfully when we arrived we were able to be seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She kept checking on us and made sure that we had everything. The food arrived shortly after we ordered it and it was very flavorful. It was brunch time and we were hungry! Strolling through town and going into this place, boy did I hit gold. Great ambiance with an Irish band playing some authentic folk music. It's a level of caring attention to details. +Ambiance is perfect (to me). Bartender greeted us with a smile and a wave to "take any table." TVs on but volume off. Good music creating a fun vibe but at low enough volume you can actually have a conversation. So many restaurants get this wrong. Lighting is soft creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Have eaten here many times - usually lunch on a weekday - and it seems like people converse in normal voices - I swear it has to do with the atmosphere. Had the lamb stew and an Irish coffee, and my friend had the breakfast burrito. While the stew tasted pretty good, I wish there had been more meat and chunks of veggies and potatoes - it literally looked like brown gloop that had been pureed - stew should have some dimension. The Irish coffee was great and my friend liked her burrito. Service was friendly, a bit slow at times, and the ambiance is cozy what you'd expect from a typical Irish pub. My family and I were in the area after a family day in doing plymouth tours that ended at the mayflower. A quick yelp search of some places nearby and we landed with Dillons Local. We didn't really expect much as it's your typical local sports bar setting but were pleasantly surprised with the food. My parents, mom in particular, is quite picky when it comes to american food but she enjoyed her burger as well a small bite of everyone else's food haha. my brother in law and i got the fish and chips which was amazing. Just passing through Plymouth and Yelp brought us to Dillon's Local. A nice bar atmosphere, rustic but clean. Ordered the fish tacos and short ribs-grilled cheese sandwich. For appetizers we had a cup of clam chowder and an order of fried calamari. The fish tacos were good but I expected that the toppings would add more zest and appeal to the dinner. The short rib sandwich fell flat on its face. A great idea but the short ribs were short on flavor or a sauce that was memorable. The clam chowder was exquisite as was the calamari. The servers were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very comfortable. They recommended great beers to try. A good crew. I'm giving our meals 3 stars, service, appetizers, and beer 5 stars. I brought my mom, sister, and niece here for an early dinner on a hot August afternoon, for my mom's birthday. A couple items caught our eyes, but I had a few questions. I'm not a huge fan of onion in my shepherd's pie, so I asked the server if it was super onion-heavy.. she relayed that she also wasn't really into a lot of onion, but that they were minced pretty small in the dish, and that she liked it. She recommended trying the shepherds pie croquette appetizer, instead, which I did. Perfect suggestion by her! Fluffy, perfect ratio of ingredients, and a perfect brown gravy covered the 4 large croquettes. I'll definitely be back for these, alone, unless I just order the Sheperd's Pie entree, which looked huge when dropped off at the table next to ours. Everything we had was spot-on. Guinness Fish and Chips (the beer batter was as crispy as it gets, which is how I like it,) Bourbon steak tips with a huge portion of mashed potatoes and green beans, French onion soup, and the Creole Salmon.
