We loved this place so much that we stopped back a second time for carryout on our drive back to Boston! We first wandered in on a cold, rainy afternoon and were immediately charmed by the cozy atmosphere. The service was warm and welcoming, and everywhere we looked, steaming plates of comfort food were making their way to happy diners. The cod Reuben with sweet potato fries was outstanding, and the clam chowder was exceptional. In fact, after trying chowder at six different places during our trip, my husband and I both agreed this was our favorite by far. The shepherd's pie looked incredible as it passed our table, but we'll have to save that for next time. We chose this restaurant largely because of its 4.5-star rating, even passing up a few waterfront restaurants with beautiful views but slightly lower ratings. Unfortunately, we left pretty confused about where the 4.5 stars are coming from. We were seated quickly, and the staff was genuinely very nice and welcoming. We had a booth, although it was oddly high and uncomfortable for me at 5'3" because my feet could barely reach the ledge. Service was pleasant, but after we ordered, no one really checked in on us. Our table tried quite a bit: the Reuben, classic New England cod, another cod and clam dish, clam chowder, and a pretzel. The clam chowder was probably the highlight. It had good flavor, although I would have loved more actual clams. The wine was mediocre. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was about a 5/10 for us. Nothing was terrible, but most of it was surprisingly bland and just not memorable. My cod and clam dish was especially disappointing. It came with four very large clams, but one was completely closed and should never have made it onto the plate. The cod, potatoes, and other ingredients were sitting in a pool of cream sauce, yet somehow the dish still tasted underseasoned. It felt more like something I could have steamed and put together myself at home for a simple, healthy weeknight dinner rather than something I'd be excited to order at a restaurant. Maybe we caught the kitchen on an off day, because the consistently high ratings made us expect much more. We specifically chose this place based on those reviews instead of going somewhere with a view and slightly lower ratings. In the end, we got neither the view nor particularly good food, which was disappointing. Went to Dillon's while in Plymouth for work and my coworkers and I tried this place out for lunch. I got the lobster Bisque and a shrimp Caesar salad. It's a pretty small place, but they were able to seat 5 people fast. My food was all at the right temperature they were supposed to be at. My salad was huge and they are not stingy with the shrimps, they were fresh and big. My Lobster Bisque was great, I got a cup and regretted not getting a bowl. We stopped by Dillon's before a show at The Plymouth Memorial Hall. This was our third visit, and the food has been consistently good every time. The staff is very friendly, even during the dinner rush when there are shows in town. The place is a little dark, but it's a pub -- that's part of the atmosphere. I started with an Allagash Ale while my wife had water. I always seem to gravitate toward the fish and chips, which are consistently crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. We went on a rainy Sunday for brunch and watched the first half of the Patriot's game. They have free parking available for customers so that's a plus. While visiting Plymouth Rock area, we went by Yelp reviews to choose Dillon's Local. We wanted to be away from the congestion of the square. Local merchants did not recommend this place but once they told us the names of the ones they liked were right next door, we felt they were just being good business neighbors. So we stayed the course and glad we did. Small place with attached free parking. Bar vibe but a great selection of food. We all received our dishes super hot and fresh. French Onion is a must and if any soup broth is left save it for the steak and cheese sub that needs to be ordered. Cheesy with mushrooms onions and red peppers. I ordered an appetizer as my main- mahi mahi lettuce wraps. Great flavor and perfect size for one as entree or to be shared. Fish and Chips delicious! Whiskey Bacon Cheeseburger was good. Hate to say so, but our impression of Dillon's Local mirrored Rosa N's. Maybe we ate there on the same day. Welcoming and accommodating service, good clam chowder but the rest of the meal fell short. Brussels Sprouts were bland, lacked tenderness, and had no discernible truffle flavor. The lobster and crab Rangoon was likewise bland, with a thick and chewy shell that left an impression of being heavy. Cozy, warm, slightly nautical, and very much the kind of place where you expect to hear a sea shanty or two--but instead you get modern cuisine that slaps. Our waitress? Sweet as maple syrup and just as essential to the experience. Attentive, friendly, and the kind of person who makes you feel like a regular even if it's your first time. The food? Let's just say: my fish and chips were perfection--crispy, flaky, and clearly made with some kind of mystical cod magic. My wife had a salad that she actually liked (this is a big deal--she usually eats salad like she's fulfilling a community service sentence). But the grilled cheese--my god. I was in the area for yet another specialist appointment and was not feeling in the best spirit. Since it was a fasting appointment, I was pretty hungry so the hubby brought me here. I don't know if I was starving, unhappy or what but this place and meal hit the spot and hit it hard. I thought I deserved a drink so I got a Guinness, which was thankfully on tap so yah! I got the bourbon steak tips with steak fries and opted for a garden salad instead of the green beans - yes, yes, and yes! Steak tips were perfectly flavorful and cooked just right for my taste. I really wanted fries and (unlike some of my family/friends) I actually like steak fries and they were cooked up just the way I like'em (crisp outside, not too mushy on the inside). The salad though, yah it was basic and yet not - all kinds of different colored tomatoes which actually had great flavor to them, and it was not just a couple but quite a few and they were "fresh". That is basically what I loved about the salad - not your typical anemic looking/tasting salad but with mixed greens (not just lame looking iceberg) and full of other veggies. The server also could not have been nicer (like I said I went through a lot that day so seeing a friendly face was nice) and always checking on us. There's something about this bar that feels very home-y from the second that you walk in. It's a very "cozy" restaurant but everytime I go there it is always filled with people and I understand why. The staff is very friendly and thankfully when we arrived we were able to be seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She kept checking on us and made sure that we had everything. The food arrived shortly after we ordered it and it was very flavorful. It was brunch time and we were hungry! Strolling through town and going into this place, boy did I hit gold. Great ambiance with an Irish band playing some authentic folk music. My husband and his family members were in Plymouth on a 4 day vacation. I chose Dillon's based off the great reviews from Yelp, and was not disappointed. 7 of us from the baked salmon to the lobster tacos, , steamed mussels, Brussels sprouts and believe it or not the sweet potato fries were all around the crowd favorite. Normally they ask if I want Baileys but the waitress forgot, then she remembered and came back to the table. Which she didn't have to do. It's a level of caring attention to details. +Ambiance is perfect (to me). Bartender greeted us with a smile and a wave to "take any table." TVs on but volume off. Good music creating a fun vibe but at low enough volume you can actually have a conversation. So many restaurants get this wrong. Lighting is soft creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Have eaten here many times - usually lunch on a weekday - and it seems like people converse in normal voices - I swear it has to do with the atmosphere. Had the lamb stew and an Irish coffee, and my friend had the breakfast burrito. While the stew tasted pretty good, I wish there had been more meat and chunks of veggies and potatoes - it literally looked like brown gloop that had been pureed - stew should have some dimension. My family and I were in the area after a family day in doing plymouth tours that ended at the mayflower. A quick yelp search of some places nearby and we landed with Dillons Local. We didn't really expect much as it's your typical local sports bar setting but were pleasantly surprised with the food. My parents, mom in particular, is quite picky when it comes to american food but she enjoyed her burger as well a small bite of everyone else's food haha. my brother in law and i got the fish and chips which was amazing.
