I was looking for last minute alterations for my bridesmaid dress because I didn't want to fall on it while walking down the aisle. That would be mortifying. So, I was searching on Yelp and came across this business. Shoutout to the previous Yelp reviewer who explained she also needed her bridesmaid dress altered on a Thursday and the wedding was on a Saturday. That's the same dilemma I was in. I called to confirm what the other Yelp reviewer said and sure enough the owner said she'd have it done the next day! I took it in on Thursday morning and she had it done by 5pm on Friday. So grateful she was so efficient! I paid approximately $40 (see photograph below). Han explained that because the dress was double layered it would cost a little more. I personally thought it was a lot, but when you're in a bind and don't want to drive far you pay. However, I spoke to the other bridesmaids who also had their dresses hemmed and they paid $50! The owner was not the friendliest upon arriving but once she warmed up to me she was super talkative and nice. I now know she has a son, lives in Alhambra, has been doing this for decades and likes to eat her lunch. She may come across as cold to others, but if you treat her with respect she will be super sweet. The dress itself came out perfect! She asked me to bring the dress over that day and I did. She is a one man show, but extremely efficient. She is reliable and gets the job done in a matter of 3 days sooner if you need but in my case it wasn't as urgent but she cut my dress made it shorter which was amazing and made the corset tighter to hold my boobs up and it looked absolutely beautiful. This is the only place open on Sunday's and I needed it ready by Tuesday. The owner is not super friendly and did not like when my mom asked her questions in Vietnamese. I took two brand new dresses here that I had gotten online and were too big. One was fairly detailed, both needed to be taken in on the sides and one needed some alteration in the bust area as well. Horrible service, wrong address and wrong business hour. Waste my time to come here, since they have the wrong building number and wrong pictures of the shop on Yelp, it took me 20 mins to look for it. Once I finally found it, it's was closed. On the door is says close at 5:30pm and Yelp says close at 6:00pm and we were there at 4:30pm. They were closed. Called they said because it's Friday, but I'm sorry. Today is Saturday. I went to 2 other locations to try and get a bridesmaid's dress tailored because I had ordered a size too small and it was final sale. They had both rejected me and said it's not possible. I asked Han to alter an expensive, white gradation dress and she did it no problem. She hemmed the dress beautifully (which had three layers!) and it fit me perfectly. Needed a dress alteration urgently. Came in and the lady wore a mad face to begin with. Asked her if she can do what I needed, she said yes. I needed my dress back by a certain time and she was hesitant so I told her if it was too much trouble for her I can take it somewhere else. Lady said she could do it which I appreciate but boy did she wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Hours later I picked up my dress with my Vietnamese speaking partner and she toned down her attitude a bit, but I did realize she will give you top notch hands down service if you speak Vietnamese, as I witnessed from other Vietnamese customers. It is my fault I don't speak Vietnamese because I am not Vietnamese. The owner was the sweetest lady. I took her my daughters prom dress that needed to be altered drastically in 3 days... She cut it shorter, took it in and made a slit. She was so nice about it and didn't give me attitude about it being short notice like the other places I went to. The owner is Vietnamese, very pleasant and speaks English well, good start. My buddy needed a long rain coat altered. She wanted the hem and sleeves shortened. We came in on a wednesday, could we have it tomorrow? No, definitely too busy. Saturday was the earliest it could be ready. How much? Well, depends if she wants to move up the lapels and button on the sleeves or just shorten the sleeves and remove the trimmings. How much more would it be? Another $25 just to move up the trimmings. And without the trimmings what would it cost? $50. Ok. My buddy was good with that. As promised, it was ready on time and the work itself was neat and professional. Why am I not giving the place more stars? Since I sew, here's the breakdown. The work itself should have required less than 2 hours. So...is $25/hr a good rate for alterations? I deducted a star for being a little pricey, but for those that don't sew, it's probably good. I also deducted another star for not having at least a 2 day turnaround. I should have deducted another star for the over populated hard to find parking in the lot behind the store, but I didn't. This is California. read more
