I don't recall exactly when Hank's opened in the old automotive repair shop building, but yeah maybe 2025. In any event they did a fine job with the remodel and the ambiance is perfect American sports bar restaurant. I have dined here at least once a year since and it is consistently very good - four star good. They serve a fine menu of traditional American food from trout to elk burgers. I really enjoyed my Black and Blue salad with a huge side of onion rings. Both were delicious. Service was good as it has been the previous two times. read more

To end our good times visiting Yellowstone National Park, we wanted to eat a meal that we likely wouldn't have been able to get anywhere else. Insert Hanks Chop Shop, an American restaurant off of the main road in the town of West Yellowstone that sells bison, elk, and beef burgers. As a group of 7, we had to wait about 15-20 minutes before we were given a table, which wasn't too bad. After being shown our table, we perused through the menu and ordered what we wanted. I decided on a buffalo burger and P2 went with the elk burger. We got both with a side of fries. This place was very busy when we came, but the waiter did his best to take care of us. It took about 20-25 minutes for our food to come out, and the food was noticeably still hot and fresh. Bison is known to be very lean and dry, which is exactly what I wanted and tasted. The elk burger had the familiar "gamey" taste to it, but offered a different experience to P2, which was their first time trying it. The fries were cooked perfectly as well, with the crispy texture and light-brown color as marks of an excellent fry cook. For what we paid, we thought we received outsized value. The prices here are a little bit cheaper than elsewhere in town, but the quality was still phenomenal. We enjoyed our time at Hanks Chop Shop and would recommend everyone to try them out! read more

I've been to Hank's quite a few times in the past and have always had good experiences, which made this visit especially disappointing. When we walked in, we weren't greeted at all and ended up waiting about 10 minutes just to get menus. Things didn't improve from there. I ordered an elk burger medium (expecting it to still be kind of bloody), but when the food arrived, I immediately noticed what looked like an eyelash sitting on my fries. When I pointed it out to the server, she initially dismissed it and said she didn't see anything--even after I showed her. Only after pointing it out multiple times did she acknowledge it and offer to replace the fries, which was frustrating. Unfortunately, the replacement didn't make up for the rest of the meal. When I went back to my burger, it was clearly overcooked and burnt, with barely any pink at all. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience, especially compared to my past visits. This was a really nice bar and grill. Most of the restaurants have a bar, casino and liquor store here in West Yellowstone. We got seated right away and our waiter brought our food out fast. My steak was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The same went for my fiancées filet. Her mashed potatoes are good. I knew my baked potato was from Idaho because it was the best one I had ever had. The service was great. They have a lot of beers on tap and plenty of TVs all over. Their outdoor patio was top notch. This place is such a vibe -- cool atmosphere, tons of fun games, and an overall energy that just makes you want to hang out and stay awhile. Stopped by this spot two different times on the same day. First visit: Slightly better than average experience. Bartender who was fine (never mentioned her name). Food was fine (had a pretzel with mozzarella and pepperoni) and drinks where fantastic. I ended up having 2 Huckleberry jalapeños margaritas which were delicious because they ran out of pineapple juice (worked out into a fabulous problem, lol). Second visit later in the day: The bartender Abbi was phenomenal. 10/10 purely for her amazing personality and service. Remembered my name throughout service, checked in appropriately, was knowledgeable about the drink menu, and was attentive when needed. Ended up having the bison steak filet which was phenomenal. They have a great local beer selection on tap. There's a little casino in the back incase your bored and want a side adventure. My family had a great dinner here tonight! Lemon pepper wings were on point and had a kick! Intense lemon flavor to cut thru the fried and we were happy. I think this was our favorite place to eat on our Yellowstone trip. The atmosphere is happy and it was pretty busy. The spinach dip was good and the little crostinis were perfect (soft on the inside and crunchy little crust). The truffle fries were okay, just really greasy, as in there was a puddle of grease on the plate. I had the lemon pepper trout, which came with wild rice and asparagus and everything was really tasty. This is definitely a highly recommended Restaurant/Bar! Great prices on food and drinks. Wood fired brick oven was a huge hit! We split a pizza and enjoyed a fresh tap beer. This is a cross between a pub and a steakhouse, with a lively atmosphere and something of a loud ambiance. Broch, our waiter, was a standout as he excellently handled our group of 21, anticipating needs and keeping up effortlessly, while maintaining a great attitude. I have visited restaurants across the globe, dining at multi-Michelin starred joints everywhere from Taipei to Toronto, and Broch ranks with some of the best. The food was quite good--not exceptional, but far above what I've come to expect from tourist towns like this, and I would come here again if I were in the area. Our group ordered the spinach dip, truffle fries, wings, onion rings, steaks and burgers, chicken alfredo, salads, and generally half the menu. Everything was cooked well, and arrived nicely put together. The only negative standout, was that some of our members commented that the chicken tasted a little weird--not bad, but maybe frozen in the past. The price was definitely a little expensive for what it is, but considering that it's a semi steakhouse in West Yellowstone I don't feel it's entirely unjustified. They were very welcoming and I had no problem with their customer service. Inside the restaurant, there are lots of tables and a spacious bar with plenty of seats. My only downside that came from my experience with Hanks Chop Shop was the wait for my food. I had ordered the Baked Chicken with a baked & loaded potato, which also came with a nice portion size of asparagus. With this order, I had to wait 45 minutes, presumably due to the cooking time. Food was the highlight. I had an elk burger and fries, and a wedge to go. Wedge was massive, and enjoyed the following day. My wife had a beef burger - we couldn't taste any difference . Elk is much leaner and typically requires a slow deliberate process to cook. It tasted like a normal burger but it was very good. Service was choppy. Couldn't get the orders/tables right. Half the time service has been slow, dishes around the table coming out at different times, and some of it not warm. Today was such a case. Took sclong time For a waiter to show up. We ordered a pasta dish and fried chicken. After about 45 minutes they brought out the pasta and told us the fried chicken would be a little longer as it was frozen (so keep that min mind before ordering). That pasta was lukewarm and rather than offering to refire they reheated it: result was rubbery clams and congealed cheese on the pasta. The chicken arrived 20 minutes later. It was not seasoned (or not very well). Fries had erectile dysfunction and Cole slaw way too much mayo. They did give as 20% off, but I would have rather had good food, on time. read more

My rating is based off the experience and not the food. We ended up at The Buffalo Bar for dinner and it was GREAT! We went on a Sunday night. It took the hostess about 5 min to greet up and said it would be about a 10 - 15 min wait. She told the party of 6 behind us it would be 25 min for their wait. We waited and eventually got seated. Our waitress told us that the kitchen was behind and it would be about 45 min before any food would come out. Being it was already 815 at this point we said that would wait and ordered drinks. She took our order about 5 min later. I ordered French onion soup and she said they were out. I said what else are you out of? She said it would be easier if I told her what I wanted and she could say if they had it. She came back a few minutes later to retake or order. My husband ordered the Bison Ribeye. She put her hands up to her head and said you're not going to fro believe it but we're out of that too. We're now 45 min into this ordeal and basically they can't get food out and are still advertising their game meats and do not have them. We told her that they need to let people know at the hostess stand that they are that behind and maybe take down the signs of their specials that they no longer have. We told the hostess to have a good night as we left - because we're still friendly and all- and she just ignored us. We went down to The Buffalo Bar and had an OUTSTANDING Bison Ribeye with delicious sides - 2 oz more and $13 cheaper than what we would have paid at Hanks. read more
