One of the worst service experiences on my Yellowstone trip. I came to this restaurant hoping to order a small appetizer to go, as it's the only place within 12 miles and I didn't have a car at the time. I kindly explained my situation to the staff, but was told the kitchen was "too busy" to accept any takeout orders. One server said she would go ask again, but then left me waiting in a loud, smoky dining area with no updates for a long time. When I eventually approached the bartender to follow up, a male staff member responded with a rude attitude and walked away. I was with my small baby who was running a fever -- there was no way we could dine in under those conditions. I understand restaurants get busy, but the staff showed zero flexibility or empathy. It felt like they didn't care about customers at all, perhaps because they are the only option in the area and don't feel the need to earn your business. This was the only unpleasant experience during my entire Yellowstone trip -- very disappointing. read more

The Grub here is ON POINT! And the staff here was INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY!! Staying at The LakeView Suites across the street while visiting Yellowstone National Park, we decided to hit this joint for some takeout, hoping for something yummy to eat after a long HOT day roaming The Park. COVID-19 precautions are in play here, hand sanitizer, social distancing/limited capacity inside and patio dining available, masks are properly worn by all staff and sign at entrance warns everyone entering to wear a mask. We didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive and while we waited, we were given a pitcher of water to enjoy without even being asked if we wanted some! Now that's customer service! These are the items we munched on... 1/2 Pound GARLIC BURGER: Comes on HOMEMADE FRENCH Bread! This thick burger has a nice flavor to it, not overcooked at all and not too greasy, either. Veggies are fresh. Ample amount of French fries come with meal. No complaints here! Better than expected! FETTUCCINI with White Clam Sauce: Served with shrimps that we're plump and cooked just right. The sauce had a tasty flavor to it, probably could of had a bit more coverage of the noodles, but I'm being nit picky. CHICKEN STRIPS: Comes with 2 big strips of chicken. Filling for young ones or light eaters. Crispy, yet tender inside. Ample serving of French fries with this meal, too. GRILLED CHEESE with Ham: The young ones devoured this! No complaints from them! Gone before I could even ask for a bite... Hah! Chips are not homemade but pretty good serving given. All in all, we enjoyed this meal MUCH MORE than we thought we thought we were going to! We live near there for each summer and look forward all year long to lunch at the Happy Hour. It is so much fun!!!! The food is fine. I like one of the chicken sandwiches. The burgers are just fine as well. But what really makes it is the people and the location. The only bar/restaurant on beautiful Hebgen Lake. I know that covid makes things tough and they were busier than they thought they would be...but not at all timely or attentive. The servers were very nice and friendly but having them take our drink order three times and still not getting the order is tough. Happy Hour is a place to get your drink on and get down right stupid and it's all good there. Pictures of T&A all over and let's not forget to mention the hanging undies on the ceiling! We arrived here after driving to see the sights for a cold drink and an appetizer. The bartender was the rudest person I have met in Montana! We ordered drinks and chicken wings and went to sit outside. The chicken wings arrived cold and we sent them back. The waitress that served them took them back with a few pieces that had been bitten into. We noticed the bartender and the waitress looking out the window and looking in our direction while holding the chicken wings. About ten minutes later the order arrived again with the bitten pieces refried and served again. How gross!!! I could not say anything at the time because I did not want to cause a scene in front of my family, but had to let others know and beware!!! The Happy Hour Bar and Restaurant is an interesting place. Located on the shores of beautiful Hebgen Lake outside of West Yellowstone, the decor is probably the tackiest I've seen. Women's undies, topless photos, thong underwear, men's caps, and other tasteless stuff hang from the walls and ceiling in the bar, which is also where the salad bar is located. A trip to the men's room to see the topless mannequin peering though a window is a must. The food is typical fried bar food. There is, however, a garlic burger on the menu that people rave about. The beer and cocktails are great. The Moscow mules are the best and when they are served everyone in the bar will yell, "Copper on the bar!" or "Copper on the floor" depending on where the person that ordered the MM is sitting. This is actually a lot of fun, especially after consuming a few MMs. Local craft beers are on tap and for a special occasion, be sure to order the tropical flavored rainbow shots. During the summer the Happy Hour clientele is as eclectic as it gets with people from all walks of life dropping in for food and drink. Food was fair. The portions were small but prepared fairly well. The young lady that was the bar tender/waitress was not very service oriented ( they were NOT busy ). We stopped by because the deck overlooking the lake looked so inviting. Margaritas were expensive but it is a resort-type destination way out of town. People next to us had crab legs which looked good and I could hear them raving about. Don't know if the crab was fresh or frozen, didn't ask that. Our food was fine. Service was excellent and locals were super friendly. It's obviously the hangout for locals and the atmosphere and general laid-back attitude was welcoming. Inside was low ceilings and dark so I'm glad we sat outside. Husband got a laugh out of the naked mannequin in the men's room window. Don't see that everywhere. First, know what you're getting. This is nothing but a dive bar with food, essentially. That said, it was exactly what my wife and I wanted after going canning on the lake for an hour or so. We sat on the deck overlooking the lake and mountains, drank a few beers, had a few burgers, and were blissful. The waitress sat down and smoked with us, joked with us, and was helpful as we tried to make our food decisions. They had Salmonfly Honey Rye on tap too, which hit the spot. We spent a lot of money at nicer restaurants during our 9 day trek to Montana and Wyoming, but the Happy Hour Bar is one of our best moments. Granted, it was a Monday evening, so it wasn't very busy, but the quiet we found there was perfect. Wish we could go back tonight! read more
