We just stopped in for a drink. The restaurant next door was closed. Service was very good. Beer selection was limited for a place in this type of location. Ambiance was very nice. We kind of ended up here by default because there was nothing else available but I'm glad we ended up here. The Bear Pit is the bar inside The Old Faithful Inn, next to their main restaurant. It's a cute little spot with a little menu. It can get busy or seem that way since there are only two people working there. We stopped in for a cocktail while we were waiting for Old Faithful to erupt- as most of the people in there were doing. There were out of a lot of stuff. We tried to order a cocktail, they were out of the moonshine they use in it. The people next to us tried to order two different drinks they were out of. Bartender put liquor in my mocktail but realized it before serving it to me. He was very easily distracted. Maybe he needed some help behind the bar?? read more

We ate the bison burger with a pastrami slice so fast we forgot to take the picture. It was amazing. The concept of the pastrami size was interesting and I think it added seasoning/flavor to improve the whole sandwich. We are sitting in the bear pit, so it's basically a bar with a limited food menu, they did a great job, it's fun to sit and be able to look outside and relax and have a drink. Try the huckleberry martini it will make you want to buy the huckleberry vodka. It was the highlight of the meal. read more

Rowr! If you had asked me to describe a bar called 'Bear Pit,' this isn't what I'd have imagined. This is the closest bar to Old Faithful! Need a drink after seeing how hot steamy water can come shooting out of the ground?? This is the place. The bar is right next door to the dining hall at Old Faithful Inn. They have some cleverly designed windows that depict bears doing various human things on them. The place has a smattering of local beers and whiskeys. The Yellowstone Whiskey is available to get by the shot. If you like it, the gift shop sells bottles of it. The bartenders were nice when I went. Everyone is a tourist here, so they've heard it all. They were quick with the drinks, and heavy handed on the pours. Just be careful not to fall into a geyser after hanging out in the Bear Pit. They have some food, which I didn't explore. If we were basing this review strictly on aesthetic it would be a solid five stars, however the rest of the experience left much to be desired. It is a gorgeous historic lounge inside the Old Faithful Inn and it was also the only place open to eat at 3pm. We sat down and the waitress took out order. Other tables came in and she took their orders as well. After two of the other tables that arrived after us got their food she came to tell us they were out of something we ordered. We then waited even longer. The whole tables food came out in waves, though we all got the burger with bison pastrami, one persons burger came out twenty minutes after everyone's and came with a side of undercooked fries that were cold in the center. We spent the night at Old Faithful Inn and in my research I knew that the food was kind of scarce around 8pm and expensive in the park and I really didn't want to drive back out-- but the bear pit never showed up on any of my searches! We had a really long day so we were not looking for anything crazy and this was perfect! The burger was cooked to perfection and the fries were awesome. We also were in hiking clothes so I'm glad we didn't have to go to a nicer dining area. Stopped in for a drink before dinner and sat at the bar. Bartender was the only one for the entire bar area. She was very good and kept thing moving. Bar is right next to the dining room . This is the Old Faithful Inn - Bear Pit Lounge, with seating facing the backside entrance to the historic building. While the line for the Dining Room Buffet hall stretched across the hotel lobby floor and breached the grand entrance, we opted for a quick-bite experience at the adjacent Bear Pit Lounge (and Bar), and we were pleasantly surprised. Out of all the other establishments where I sampled Bison ____, this was, by good measure, the BEST BISON BURGER! Thick, clearly hand-crafted patty, cooked medium rare with juices flowing plus all the important fixins: lettuce, tomato, onion, mushrooms and I added yellow mustard. I liked the Hot Wings starter because of the fried breaded coating. Lastly, I also balanced the meal a very impressive Caesar Salad with large, fresh romaine lettuce leaves, shredded parmesan and a light, subtle anchovy dressing. Server Amy was very nice, knowledgeable and prompt. One quick visit to the restroom and the food was waiting for me upon return. She also reminded us of the next eruption time for Old Faithful! The hotel area is absolutely amazing. The Bear Pit, not so much. Ordered three mocktails and a charcuterie board. The mocktails were small. Three sips and gone. The charcuterie board came out WELL after the drinks were gone. And you got three pieces of meat, a couple of pickles, and a couple pieces of sausage on a food plate. So much for ambiance. Finding excellent food in Yellowstone National Park is a trick, so the Bear Pit is a big win for me. The menu is very limited--steamed edamame, bison brat, burger, chicken wings, and chili fries. There are a couple of more items, but basically, that's it. We had the wings, which we all thought were excellent. A side of fries and steamed edamame were also very good. Great place next to Ol Faithful. Stopped in for a beer and bite to eat before venturing to the hot pools and other geysers. They were NOT serving food in the lounge. Not sure if it was something new or just that day. They were very busy and bartender was making drinks for the restaurant as well as the lounge. The menu here is limited, but they execute very well! Our son had the hot wings and liked them so much that he wanted a second order! My wife and daughter said the bison burger was great, and I really liked the wild game chili. The chili is thick and meaty with big chunks of ground elk and bison! The lines pretty much everywhere here are always long in peak summer season and we just wanted something easy. While folks waited a long time for the buffet, we noticed another door and took off to the left for the Bear Pit bar. We sat without waiting and had a beer and our food before the next time the geyser erupted. It's a bit pricey, but exactly what I'd expect at a lodge on National Park grounds in a remote area - nothing too over the top, but the few extra bucks I expected everything to be. The menu is small - you're having one of like three sandwiches here, but the servings were generous, they tasted good and everything was quick. Three and a half stars. The Bear Pit is a bar in the Yellowstone Inn that is perfect for a small meal and a drink. The food menu only consists of four or five items. Trout cakes (which are amazing), hamburger, bison burger and I believe a bratwurst dish. They serve several craft beers, including a few local brews. In addition they have have a full bar and a speciality huckleberry Margarita. While in Yellowstone, my group visited the Bear Pit twice. The first visit we all thoroughly enjoyed trout cakes, beer, and excellent service. The second time was marred by poor service. Also, the bison burgers and hamburgers proved to be average. There are not a lot of choices in regard to eating while inside Yellowstone. The Bear Pit is perfect for a quick bite and cheaper than the adjacent restaurant. read more

Excellent customer service! Jeffrey was our waiter and he was on top of things. Very attentive and friendly. The food menu is limited especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan. I had the bison bratwurst and my husband the chili fries with ground bison/elk. It was good for food in the park. Our vegetarian friends had the hummus plate, edamame, and fries. We all tried the various local brews they serve. I honestly liked the food and service better here than at The Dining Room next door. We drank and ate the limited food items on menu in this pub one night when we had no reservation in restaurant and the other cafe Obsidian (first come first serve) had 60-90 minute wait. Drinks okay. Snuck in for a quick bite and so good. Burgers and Chili were fantastic. Also had a cucumber gin drink that was wonderful.

Definitely not the place to go if you want to have any sort of decent service. The menu is extremely limited and expensive at that. The bartender has a voice that carries clearly across the entire room which makes it somewhat annoying to try to carry on a conversation while listening to him discuss things with the people at the bar.
