A decent option for dining in West Yellowstone. After a long day of travel and adventure in the park, we were ready for a quick and filling meal. Old Town Cafe was our pick since it seemed to have a variety of different dishes, including options without meat, and the prices seemed reasonable compared to some nearby competitors. The ambiance is casual with two different dining rooms and a few seats at the bar. We both enjoyed our meals - the trout entree and the chicken bacon pesto sandwich. Nothing fancy but they did the job and had generous portions. The huckleberry lemonade, a local drink, was also a refreshing surprise that wasn't too sweet. I definitely recommend giving this a try if you want to try something unique to the area. I'm all about casual dining, especially after a long day of activities, but will note that the waitress wasn't the friendliest and approached our table and asked how we wanted to pay the bill (one check or split) while I was only half finished with my meal. I definitely left rushed to finish and ended up taking my dinner roll to go to eat on my walk out. read more

We stopped here for breakfast this morning as we were traveling to Ashton, Idaho to continue our fishing trip. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The eggs were fresh, the steak was cooked well. I was very pleased with the food, and if you are in West Yellowstone, Montana it is worth stopping by. Low key bar. Comfort food. Another stop on our bar crawl was Old Town Cafe. The atmosphere was low key. Food smelled good, more like comfort food than something too upscale. We didn't connect. The place was too hot when we walked in. That seemed to have worn everyone down. No one was rude or anything, but we just couldnt get attention to get a beer. We might have been too wound up and full of ourselves. Hey, it happens. We'd try here again. We'd give them another try, if they'd give us another try. But we'd come in more mellow. Typically, you think of a small town cafe as a great place to eat--folksy, relaxed, great menu, warm friendly service. We got none of those things. My husband & I waited 20 minutes for a table and ended up being escorted to a high top table in the bar. It was another 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to greet us. We ordered drinks & food at once cuz we didn't want to wait again. But that's all we did was wait. Our server was also the bar tender. That made it nearly impossible for her to provide timely service to the 6 tables in the bar. Our soft drinks came one at a time but with no straws. My husband eventually went to the bar to ask for them. Food took a while. I asked for a side of ranch dipping sauce; it never came. In the end, I asked for the ranch with a lid & a to go box because without that condiment, I was never able to eat my food. My husband enjoyed the ribs & chili. But the salad should have come out first. It came along side the meal. The steak fingers were overcooked, fried dark brown. I needed the ranch to dip them for moisture. I couldn't use the gravy because it was gelled and I couldn't penetrate the surface. $57 later, we regretted our decision to go there. A server waiting tables should NOT be doubling as the bartender. The bar patrons got all her attention leaving us without service. What a shame. read more

When planning our trip to YNP, Old Town Cafe wasn't on the shortlist. We noticed it as we walked through the neighborhood and the menu featured a bit of everything for everyone in the family. After a particularly warm day of hiking, my husband and I resolved to try OTC -- especially since signs read that it was established in 2023. Keeping restaurants open is very hard work. I was interested in trying a buffalo burger while my husband looked forward to more trout. Since this is a family-friendly restaurant, perhaps the entry should be rethought. The door directly opens to the bar, which has high tables where families can be seated. (Here, we chose seats so we could watch the World Cup match.) There's another room with more conventional, lower tables. I asked for sliced jalapenos to be added the buffalo burger with cheddar, lettuce, sliced tomato, diced raw red onion on a toasted bun. Diners can specify to what extent the buffalo is cooked: medium or med rare are recommended. Substitute side fries for a side salad (romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese & crutons) for a nominal fee. * Ask your server to hold the cheese on the salad if you don't prefer it. Very friendly bartender and wait staff. We appreciated the periodic check-in throughout our meal. read more

Old Town Cafe was the last restaurant I ate at while staying in West Yellowstone. I decided to stop in for breakfast before leaving to drive down to Grand Teton. The breakfast items we had were okay. The pork steak was a bit too salty and the breakfast burrito (I asked for it to NOT be deep fried) was meh. The "salsa" it came with tasted more like Pace picante sauce. We got the Old Town Burger and the BBQ Chicken Wrap. The burger was extremely well cooked and very tender & juicy, but definitely underseasoned (some salt and pepper shakers were already at the table). The wrap was decent and packed with crunchy lettuce, chicken, bacon bits, and cheese. However, the chicken was quite soggy and wasn't exactly "crispy". I wish the cheese could've been melted or something too. The wrap tasted very much like the individual parts, was quite dry, and definitely needed something else to help it go down (perhaps more sauce, because I barely was able to taste the BBQ flavor). You are welcome in advance . . . SERVICE // service was atrocious. I want to believe it had nothing to do with my ethnicity. I want to believe it had everything to do with he just didn't give a shit about a party of two. But I will tell you the two larger parties that were all Caucasian including their children received outstanding service. They received their utensils wrapped in white little packages, their food came out hot and on time and before hours and we were seated before them. And wait till I get to the food that's an interesting mix. AMBIANCE // To put it simply there is none. FOOD // my friend ordered biscuits and gravy with white gravy with no sausage, scrambled a side of sausage accompanied with home fries. What he received was something entirely different. He received sausage and biscuit with white gravy with sausage crumbles in it, bacon, two eggs over hard, hash browns and some kind of weird corn mixture on the side. When we received our coffee we did not receive any utensils with to mix the creamer into the coffee. We tried numerous times to gain someone's attention and outside of getting up and walking into the kitchen and obtaining it myself. We did not receive it until the food arrived. Both plates were cold and his gravy and biscuits had solidified on top, anyone who's ever been in the food service business knows this is from sitting out too long. When we spoke with the individual who brought our food out he was extremely quick to pass the blame and said he has no idea what's going on but he's not our server and he would tell someone. Our server took a solid 12 minutes to come back to us and then wanted to argue with tableside with us. He admitted that the food was incorrect this was an order that went to the wrong table. CONCLUSION // in conclusion, I would never suggest anybody go here for any meal. They appeared very rushed very frantic and they are all about turning their tables and the money. They allowed us to sit at a dirty table for over 15 minutes not to mention they have no one checking anyone in so you basically check yourself in & seat yourself. There are far better places to receive a hot meal, friendly service and fresh food then to torture yourself with going to this place. read more

We ordered The Standard, and it IS pretty "standard", but, as a bonus, the hash browns come with onions and green peppers. Quite delicious.
