If I could give zero stars, I would give ZERO! They do not provide a warranty or services. They are taking advantage of my elderly father who lives alone in Oak Harbor, WA. He purchased the most expensive wod stove to heat his home this last December, 3 months later, the stove is not working, pushing smoke into his house, and after basic troubleshooting (yes, vents and flues were open), he called for a repair and they informed my father they do not offer repairs or know of anyone who services them. This is AFTER this company had multiple delays to install the stove. This company is more about taking your money than providing quality service. They had my dad on the phone, jumping through hoops, all for the owner to then HANG UP on him. My elderly father does not deserve this treatment. He treats everyone with respect, especially after running a farm and small business for his whole life. Please choose a better company. read more

Jack came in and was very thorough and professional. He listened carefully to my observations and went right to work. Faulty sensor was replaced and all was well. My primary winter heat source is a large efficient natural gas fireplace with a thermostat. It had worked fine since I bought the house 11 years ago. But, not this Fall. After doing my usual annual maintenance, the thermocouple would not fire. It was November and every procrastinating goober was calling Handy's with their emergency. So I had to wait a few days before help arrived. Jack and Travis appeared on time - actually EARLY. They had all the tools and lights and protective sheeting needed. Jack was the surgeon. Travis was his assistant, handing him tools, moving work lights, etc. They broke down the unit, found the problem, a "busted wire," and had the fireplace up running and looking beautiful in about an hour. I could not be happier with this superb service at a very reasonable price. Thanks Guys. read more

I am disappointed in Handy's, they were a much better company to work with in years past. In 2020 Handy's installed a brand new electric furnace/heat pump setup for an addition we did on our home. The unit worked flawlessly until about a week before Christmas 2024. I called Handy's when the thermostat screen went blank and there was no heat or air blowing. After calling 3-4 times over a few days with no response I finally spoke with someone. I was told that due to the holidays I would have to wait until after Christmas, which was inconvenient but understandable. Several days after Christmas the service tech showed up as planned. I left the house to run a quick errand and when I returned the tech was gone. There was no note left or follow up phone call to explain what the next step was. The next day I called multiple times because they don't answer the phone and asked what the next step was and was told that parts needed to be ordered from the factory, and that they did not know how long they would take to arrive. They asked if I would like an update when they received more information on the schedule and I said yes. No return call was provided. I waited several days and called back to inquire. They rarely answer the phone, so I kept calling until someone answered. Early on I was leaving voicemails but they never returned my calls so I stopped leaving them. I received the same answer again when I finally talked to someone, they did not know when the parts would arrive, but that it was typically 7-10 business days after the factory receives the order. In mid January I called again and was put on hold. They came back on the line and confirmed that the parts had arrived and they were ready to schedule another service. Not sure why they waited for me to call them... Anyhow, the second time the service tech came out, worked on the unit, and then said more parts were needed and left. Again, I had to call and follow up as to how long it would be before they came out again. Unfortunately the parts had to come from the factory again, so I dealt with the same 7-10 business days answer. After two more weeks the second round of parts came in and the tech came out to finish the job. After 8 hours, he turned everything back on and apologized for things taking as long as they did. I noticed after he left that the outdoor compressor unit sounded very loud like it was working hard, it just didn't sound right. Also, the interior thermostat seemed to be off, the temp was lower than the thermostat registered. But I had heat for about two weeks, and then I didn't... When our heat went out again I tried calling their off hours emergency number this weekend and left a voicemail stating the situation. Then I received a prompt return call and spoke to the tech on duty for the weekend. He stated that he wasn't prepared to answer questions about my heat pump or come out to look at it but that he would relay all of my information on Monday morning in their daily meeting. I explicitly asked him to have someone call me ASAP on Monday morning. Monday morning came around, and sure enough, no phone call. So I called and explained the situation. I asked if my message from the weekend was relayed and they said it was. Again, I don't understand why they do not proactively reach out to customers, instead they wait for the customer to call them. I was told that my message from Saturday was received, and that they would get a hold of the tech that worked on my unit and get back to me. At this point given their track record, I do not expect a call back. As such I will be visiting the store in person when I am off work today. The saga isn't over unfortunately, we'll see how much longer this goes on. I just don't understand... I've honestly been more confused than anything as to how a business can operate like this. read more

Out Monitor heater that I bought from Handy's Heating is only 10 or 12 years old. I brought this heater in to be serviced before Covid. They didn't service it properly because it now has a terrible kerosene smell. I called to get it looked at and they told me there guy had retired and they no longer will service my heater. Shouldn't they be responsible for Heaters they SOLD or at least care enough about their REPUTATION they could at least help find someone to service it for me. THEY WILL NEVER GET MY BUSINESS AGAIN ! ! A shop responsible for selling heaters for HOMES ought to have a little more integrity than what they showed me, a reliable customer does not deserve that kind of treatment. Steer clear of these guy they'll drop you like a hot potato. read more

Not a good sign.... During a call for routine maintenance on an older but still functioning Claire furnace the technician apparently changed the element for the HSI igniter and it looks like he replaced the flame rectifier sensor. The electric air filter was also purportedly cleaned and since we have some animals that was probably a job and a half. The furnace was given a 'clean bill of health' but a warning that it was getting on the older side. I also had asked the technician to look at a gas leak on my propane fireplace since it was igniting off of the threads of the feed line, upstream of the shut off valve. I was told that he cleaned the flame sensor and might have tightened a joint on the gas line. I could tell he had done the work because he had put his shop vac together backwards inside the house and blown soot and (ash?) all over the place... white carpets..... A day later I noticed the house was cold cold cold in the morning. We turned on the fireplace (where upon we got to see the leak reignite which we videoed for the technician for proof). As for the furnace I just thought maybe the technician had forgotten something on the job, like a jumped switch or a panel, so we called for them to come back out. Upon return Im told the technician cleaned the furnace flame tube, and made a comment that the heat exchange is rusty and we should replace it. I was at work and my roomate did not question the recommendations. He also said he could not reproduce the fireplace leak but the furnace was fixed and we should be good. The tech was busy and so he left when he saw the furnace light. Im about 80% after the initial cycle the furnace never lit again (for reasons we will discover below). I work for a company that manufactures portable dehumidifiers and furnace systems for disaster recovery. These have the same principles of operation as AC and home Furnaces but different building codes to follow which is why I call a professional when there is a problem. We called Handy's back to find out what the problem was that afternoon. I was told about the heat exchange (which should have next to nothing to do with lighting the burners) but that a more cost efficient method would be to replace the entire furnace. ( $2-3k proposition). I asked what was wrong with this unit why it wasn't firing and after stammering some thing I suggested the gentleman on the other side of the phone to pretend I was an engineer with strong knowledge about heating and refrigeration systems. After a pause the answer i got was, "well I don't know; I'll have to talk to the tech when he comes back." This morning i spent 2 hours reading wiring diagrams and checking voltages in the furnace when i found the HSI element that looked new had not been properly installed in the unit. I also found, unrelated to the tech's work as near as i can tell, a very poorly crimped power supply wire to the HSI system. While i was in there i did a partial inspection of heat exchange and while there is some rust I could not find a significant source of damage in the unit. I'm tempted after the house is warmed up to grab my borescope and actually truly check to see if there are actual problems in the heat exchange. Update: Just got my bill for which i was charged for 2 tune-ups on a furnace and left with a project for me to complete. While the notes were very incomplete for the first visit its forgivable since he was there to perform annual service. Still the 400$ for a broken furnace charged at a critical rate is frustrating. I have completed the work and written some notes from my repair of the unit: 11/8/20 1. Inducer motor is leaking on to gas valve and fan limit. non-tech cleaned the drain lines and removed the mold inside, fan limit drains normally now. 2. Gas valve doesn't open every time.... the 'rust' on it was from the dirty water dripping on the housing. [See pictures] non-tech wiped it up with a damp cloth. Cycled the furnace 8 times, can't duplicate the failures noted by tech. 3. Fan limit is always running - this might be true, but i believe its a programmed safety from removing power. 4. Ignition module is working quite well (tested with a multi-meter) the element's connection was poor so the element was only working intermittently, after repairing the connection the HSI works as intended. 5. Furnace is short-cycling, opened additional registers in the house, short-cycling stopped. Will i use Handy's again? Doubt it. I'm disappointed that I got an up sell on a new furnace but had a functional one till i got 'serviced.' I don't think that the HSI element was purposefully installed so that the pins would work their way out in a heating cycle, but they definitely were not installed correctly. I was left with a bad taste and a bad experience. read more

Not pleased with the service we have received, or lack of. We had a heat pump and furnace installed 06/2022. Since the installation we have had nothing but issues getting someone to come out and service the furnace OR return phone calls. We called 12/04/24 for our furnace not igniting in emergency heat. Dayton came out and couldn't get it to work and said he would talk to Mark about ordering a new circuit board. Two weeks go by and we hadn't heard anything. My husband calls and talks with Mark, low and behold he knows nothing about ordering a circuit board, said he would talk to Dayton and get back to us. Guess what? No call back. We call again today 1/13/25 trying to get an update and was advised we would get a call back by the end of the day....no call. I'm not for bashing businesses or leaving negative reviews but when you're spending a good chunk of change, you expect it to work and to work properly! Needless to say, we will be calling again tomorrow but it's most likely in your best interest to just take your business elsewhere. read more

However, we had no option because they are the only Enviro dealer in our area - and we really wanted a specific Enviro fireplace model. This is the 2nd time this year that we went with a business that had poor Yelp reviews and were pleasantly surprised. The measurement appointment and installation appointment both went smoothly. we have been without heat for 2 weeks, our furnace went out, we called Handy 's heating. They came out and diagnosed the problem and said they would order parts and keep me posted. handy's heating knew we had no heat, knew we have babies in our house and knew freezing weather was in the forecast. on day 9 without hearing any updates from Handy's and still no heat. I called to get a status update. the woman answering the phone was absolutely rude and of no help whatsoever. I left voicemails to the man in charge for 3 days without a call back. I was finally able to catch him after 4 days and was told he would get me the answers I needed and call me back. He did not call me back. this company is unreliable, rude and of NO help to my family in the middle of winter with no heat. I would not recommend them. update: I called Handy 's heating just now and was able to find out that the parts were just ordered ( 12 days after my furnace was diagnosed by them) I explained I may need to find another company that can be quicker to get our heat back on. A huge kudos to CHRIS, recent new hire at Handy's Heating! We have had numerous problems with our new furnace that was installed around March 2019, and often went without heat for a few days at a time. After a chilly weekend, CHRIS restored our heat yesterday, and was by far the most knowledgeable repair person we have met. (He had owned his own furnace company in CO before moving to WA.) He diagnosed and repaired the furnace, and switched out the thermostat for a better one. He also resolved an ongoing problem we have had with never receiving enough heat in our master bathroom, which is the farthest room from the furnace. For the first time, the temperature in that room is now over 64 degrees! He increased something within the furnace that sends out more power/heat than was going out before. Thank you CHRIS so much for that. This past year we had paid for a house inspector and a duct cleaner, thinking that one of them might figure out why that room did not get heat. We added more insulation around the crawlspace ducts, but that didn't solve the problem. We had resorted to using space heaters - those shouldn't be needed anymore because of CHRIS. Lastly, Chris proactively noticed that our gas fireplace was missing some ember-looking material that is usually added to this type of fireplace. He added the missing material and, wow, what a beautiful difference it makes. I'm keeping fingers crossed and am very hopeful that we won't be needing to call Handy's anymore except for routine maintenance. And I will always ask for CHRIS! Our family will have a cozy Thanksgiving tomorrow. And today I am very thankful for CHRIS! read more

We had Handys come out to give a quote for a four zone mini split system to cover 900 square feet to include a family room, and three small bedrooms. The cost for an easy install was quoted as 14900. This includes tax. We didn't want anything fancy. We wanted three small wall units and a 12000btu in family room. This price did not include wifi or smart capabilities. Also this price didn't include ceiling cassettes which are usually more expensive. This was the price for a very simple install 14900 Including tax for one unit that would cover four zones.. Each zone was located next to each other so there wasn't any long lengthy lines to run. read more

My parents had a water heater they were wanting replaced. They contacted the company (which they used successfully in the past for other issues) requesting after hours visit due to work schedule. Was told by the receptionist it would be overtime charge of $150/hour. Also was told that they would have to send technician to come assess the situation before ordering any parts/equipment. Sounded fair. Here is where it's all downhill: 1) They sent their senior technician who arrived 2 hours late...at 8 pm. No calls to let them know. Parents thought he just wasn't coming. 2) he took a look and confirmed a new water tank and other minor plumbing work would have to be done. Made lots of notes and left 3) dad called the next day to confirm that the new water tank and parts were on order. Receptionist informed him that it was their policy that they would need to send out their estimator (for additional charges) to AGAIN take a look for a proper quote. Complete BS!! If it is their policy, they should clearly let the customer know ahead of time. It is clear that they have it set up to take advantage of customers and incur as much money. Foss Heating ended up doing the work. Their technician came out, assessed the situation and provided a formal quote before leaving. No multiple visits required. Final thought: Handy Heating doesn't seem to have a streamlined professional process in place. Buyer beware! If you don't ask ALL the right questions, you may just get taken advantage!!!! read more

If I could give 0 I would. Awful communication and very rude customer service. For two weeks we had to call every other day to try to get updates as they would not call us back when they said they would. Each time we would get a run around about someone being out sick. I understand people get sick and things get delayed, life happens, but they couldn't even tell us if the part was ordered or not. I called again yesterday to tell them we had been almost 3 weeks without heat and really needed an update. The guy was extremely rude and said "let me correct you, it's only been two weeks since we have been to your house". First of all that's not what I said, second it doesn't matter at this point why the need to "correct" me, we are where we are and can we just get an update? All he says is, we still don't have an answer on the part. At this point I tell him we may need to go with another company as we can't keep going this long without any info. on when it's arriving. I begin to say we need to look for another company while we wait and if we can't get the part from you in time we will need to cancel, before I can finish my sentence he angerly says "I'm cancelling your order!", I hear a click and he's hung up on me! Last Sunday our gas furnace pooped out, and after a quick little bit of research I selected Handy's Heating to come out and take a look. One reason I chose them is that they are a Cascade Natural Gas Trade Ally, which means work done by them qualifies for various rebates. Since we thought we might have to replace the furnace, this seemed like an important factor. We had to wait a few days for service (it's the time of year when everybody discovers their furnaces aren't working), but it was worth it! The repairman arrived, and had everything taken care of in about 30 minutes. Diagnosis and repair - he even had the circuit board for our model of 13 year old furnace on board in his truck! I highly recommend their services, and we will definitely call them back in the future if needs be. read more

My fireplace had gone out so I was in the market for a new one. I did some shopping around and Handys Heating was the only one that offered to come out and do an in home estimate for free. The wait time for installation ended up tripling after I decided to purchase from them. Not the fault of HH, but the distributor (because of Covid, so I understood). However, with this being my only source of heat, and it being December, the extra wait time became a problem for me. HH was extremely accommodating and we were able to find a comparable one they had in stock and they worked with me on the extra pricing. Every step of the process, everyone was extremely helpful, knowledgable, and accommodating. I would absolutely reccomend this establishment. I called Handy's Heating in August to report problems with one of the gas heating units they had installed for us. Both the fan and the thermostat were not working. Three weeks later a service technician ( polite young man ) came to inspect the unit. He found that the sensor that engages the fan had been placed on the hottest part of the heat box and subsequently melted down and scorching all the wires. He told me that he would order a new sensor unit and at the next visit deal with thermostat problem. He came back about three weeks later and discovered that the new part was not in his truck. Being October and it's getting cold he temporarily installed a on/off switch for the fan and showed me how to engage the thermostat using a pair of pliers applied to two screws simultaneously. He promised to be back in two days to fix all. He did not come back in two days and the plier method to engage the thermostat failed after four days. Another three weeks went by when finally I decided to visit the store/office of Handy's Heating. They apologized and assured me that their senior technician would be there in a week. The senior technician came at the appointed time and got the heater operational. He was very polite, going out of his way making two trips back to the office for parts to do the job. Not being convinced 100% he told me to call him immediately if the heater stopped working. It did 5 days later. I called Handy's Heating reporting the problem, asking for the technicians Phone #, doing as I was instructed. The office staff refused to give me his phone # but assured me that he would call me. Two days went by and again I called the office, this time speaking to the service department. They also refused to give me his phone # but assured me they would leave a message for him. I did not hear back. Tired of being cold on December 1st, I contacted another company. They came the next day. All is well. Whatever is happening at Handy's Heating I do not know, but rest assured I will never call them again. read more

Jack was our repair person, handys arrival window was between 1 - 3, he called at 245 stating his current job was taking too long, he was sorry and was very polite on the phone. It didn't matter he was going to be late, we needed the service call, no matter what time. When he got to our home, I opened the best door for him to enter and access our basement. He started to walk in the house with his work boots on, I asked him to either remove his boots or wear booties as we have new carpets. He was annoyed that I asked this of him. Things went downhill from there. He asked where is the best place to access the basement, I said this way. Then he asked very gruffly where the basement was I pointed and walked him downstairs to where the furnace was. Once the job was finished, I was letting him know that we needed two invoices to appease the insurance company. He dismissively waived his hand at me and said I got this. He asked for 2 copies to be made, I was reading what I was going to copy, he said I haven't got all day and I don't have time for this! I have another call after this one. I told him there was no need to be so rude, especially in my home and you are doing work for us. Jack you have no customer service skills and it appears that the work and paperwork is too difficult for you to handle, maybe you should be in the office answering phones, since you can keep the conversation civil. If we ever have handys back at our home, you won't be the technician - I'd rather call another company than deal with you again! You are an angry, frustrated person!! read more

Darren help us get our Pellet stove back up and running. I called on Saturday he would call his people to see if they had the part in stock due to them being closed on Sunday. Monday rolls around and i know how notes can get lost no big deal i figured it might be better to just take the Exhaust blower in and see if he might have and idea. He had a aftermarket one that wasn't the same quick change flange. Wouldn't have the other one till a day or two. Well being sick of the cold i go we'll take it so he went back changed out the wires to the ones i had on my old motor. Their saleman helped us with our plans of getting rid of that pellet stove and i was thinking wood.. but then we got talking about gas *and its way cheaper*. So we'll be going to a gas Insert hopefully this fall. read more

They back up their work and stand behind the products they sell like no company I've ever encountered. I would highly recommend using this company based on their customer service alone and have recommended them to many family family/friends with like reviews from all of them. I've called Handy's a couple times to schedule yearly maintenance on my furnace/heat pump only to be told it was a 5-week lead time for "non-emergency" type appointments and that "no-heat" situations took priority. I get that. But 5 weeks out?? I guess they only pay attention to the high tickets cost items before they consider it important. Unfortunately I haven't and won't use this company, but am basing my review on how they drive their company vehicle in anacortes. Driving a company vehicle through a residential area when kids are crossing the street at 40+ mph is unfortunately probably not the best way to gain clientele. Also, almost driving my daughter off the road who just got her permit, at night, again in a residential area when she was going 5 over, in a company vehicle... while flashing your lights. read more

Handy's Heating came highly recommended after we moved into our new home and found ourselves in need of a new heating system. After our experience, we have no idea why people think so well of them. We spent more than $10K on a heat pump (with AC capability) and furnace. Shortly before the install date, they recommended a newly available, updated system that they thought would be even better for us, no extra charge. Installation was supposed to take about a day and a half. So far, so good. But then . . . Installation took two long days. And getting the system to work correctly has now stretched over more than two weeks and five or six visits by Handy's technicians, who apparently are learning about the updated system at our considerable inconvenience. According to the explanations we've heard from them, connections weren't made correctly with the initial install, necessitating one or two more visits. Our third(!) thermostat is about to be installed, because apparently none of the thermostats they previously installed were appropriate for this system. THIS one, we were told just today, is the one they've been waiting for, newly arrived directly from the system manufacturer. The others were just stop-gaps Handy's was installing in hopes one of them would work okay until the good one came. We've found pools of water on the garage floor around the base of the furnace multiple times, and every technician has a different idea about what's causing it and apparently has been unable to correct it. They keep re-doing each other's re-work. At this point, we must have met most or all of Handy's technicians, and they have been unfailingly pleasant and polite. Some of them seem exceptionally committed to customer service, with one even calling late in the evening to say he'd been worried about leaving something on that shouldn't be a problem, but just in case, would we mind if he stopped by to shut it off so he could sleep that night? We really appreciated that. I don't know what to think. Except that I don't think I could recommend Handy's to anyone based on this experience. read more

We were interested in a new wood stove, as we walked in, John came over and approached us. We told him we were interested in a new wood stove. He started in on trying to sell us a new heating system instead. We told him again we wanted a new wood stove. He went on about how the wood stoves are going through changes next year and on and on. Then finally a week later the construction person came out to give us a quote. He went straight for our fuse box to sell my fiancé a whole new heating system. My fiancé stopped him right there and told him we want a wood stove. We are in our 50's and 60's, we know what we want, not just for heat but if the power goes out we have heat, light and could even cook a can of soup on it if we had to. John and Jake just wanted a better sale than the wood stove. They wanted to sell us a whole new heating and vent system. In my opinion that is very poor customer service.
