We had issues with communication and appt setting which was at 10 am but he didn't get my text to confirm. I am happy Dave text rhe mirning of my appt. and asked me to call him, so I called and told him I was waiting, so he had to shower etc, time was pushed back to 12, and it was not a problem. It pays to be flexible!! Dave showed up got straight to work. Removed old fan/light combo installed my new fan/light with remote control. (It's a plus!! ) In less than an hour!! My tall son had to help him hold the fan up in place to screw in. Some jobs need extra hands, no problem. Dave also replaced the broken fan blade in my living room, no charge!! Pros: Knowledgeable and very reasonable. Came with a can-do attitude. Cons: Not an issue with me, I had to clean up area. Just mentioning time and cleaning just in case someone expects more!! For me I am 100% satisfied. Especially when another company quoted me $700 to install the fan. Ridiculously shameful! Would I use Handiman Dave again.. When I got the keys to my newly purchased condo in June 2021, I hired Dave to install a new window AC unit. He had a very good price so I went with him over a few other handymen. All I have to say is, "You get what you pay for." I'm being fair with 3 stars because he definitely did the job he was hired to do, but at the same time, with his experience, he didn't consider or suggest making the installation water tight. I do remember him commenting that there was caulking all throughout the outside wall around the AC unit. He said that was overkill and it wasn't necessary. The AC unit that was removed was bigger than the new one, so the hole left was quite big. It was good while I didn't live in the condo while I had work done, as well as it not raining as much since it was Summer. but then a few weeks ago, my wife and I started to notice water damage to our laminate flooring, which appeared to spread from the AC as the source. Top it off, a neighbor above had a fast leaking AC unit, which was also dripping water into this hole. After having hired another handyman to fix the job just this past Friday, this new handyman confirmed that the hole that was left open allowed rain to penetrate into the open section to the left of the AC, which allowed for water to pool and build up in the wall, which eventually spread beneath the floor. Quite disappointing, as anyone could imagine since now I have to hire a contractor to find flooring that will match my existing floors, rip out my newly installed expensive baseboards and the damaged flooring to fix everything because I wanted to save about $150.. I'm not in anyway trying to deter anyone from hiring Dave. I'm sure he is competent, but just think for yourself at times and question what is right and wrong. Especially if you see that something is done or set up a certain way in your home, make sure you have him fully inspect and determine if shortcuts are okay. read more

Unprofessional at best. I needed a light pendant drilled into my ceiling - no wiring needed since the light would be bluetooth controlled. Dave did not listen to me when I tried to tell him he was threading the cord into the pendant base wrong - he told me "don't be dumb, just think" multiple times when I tried to correct him before realizing he was the one who was doing it wrong. He was yell-talking the entire time. I felt disrespected, and when I told him he did not have to do the job and could leave, he ignored me. He could not seem to wrap his head around the concept of a bluetooth controlled light bulb. Instead of asking more about it, he kept questioning and insisting that I needed wiring to have a pendant light. After multiple times of telling him that it was not needed, he told his child who he brought with him, "sometimes when a woman is wrong, you just have to go along with it." I felt completely disrespected and uncomfortable. I would much rather have hired someone who charged more if it meant that I would have a good experience. Payment was very weird. Regrettably, I will have to update my previous five-star review and rating for Handyman Dave. He did do 2 decent jobs for me back in 2020 and I had a third job for him to do this week, but I have concluded that unfortunately, he is just plain UNRELIABLE. I had a 1:30pm appointment with him last Saturday which I acknowledge is an off day but he said okay. At 1:22pm, when I was already at the job site, he texted that he couldn't make it. I agreed to give him a 2nd chance and made a second appointment yesterday to meet him today at 2:45pm. By 3:25pm today, he had not shown up nor called or texted and I sent him a text saying I had left. I finally received a text at 4:33pm apologizing and saying, "I don't want to work with you." Why, because my expectations for him to show up on time are unreasonable? He also called me but I didn't pick up. His message was apologetic. He said he was "confused" about our meeting time. I can't have someone who's confused about a meeting time working on a project with much higher stakes than that. Dave and I just can't work together. Time is money as he should well know. Every other contractor I asked to bid on this job, showed up early or on time. I remember in 2020, Dave did not enjoy chasing payments so back then, I had met him wherever he was -- job site, his home, etc. -- to give him his cash AND tip (which he specifically asked for -- a TIP). That didn't bother me so much then, because his pricing was so competitive, but as a business practice, Dave should not find it acceptable for his customers to chase appointments any more than he finds it unacceptable to chase payments. This is the reason for my revised rating, which is a shame because if he's focused on his customers and work, he can deliver great work and service. Just not this time. read more

SLEPT THROUGH APPOINTMENT and LEFT DAMAGED WALLS BEHIND! I needed help fixing my closet rod in my bedroom closet which had fallen when putting clothes on it. I had texted and called Dave to schedule my appointment. Turned out Dave was sleeping when I finally called him to see why he was a no-show for our 10am appointment we had scheduled on a Saturday morning. I had even sent him a reminder text at 8:15am that day to confirm if he was still coming, which of course he was sleeping. He came about 30-45min later and took a look at the project and sent me to Home Depot to fetch supplies and said he would come by the next day around 9 or 930 to complete the project (no definite time was agreed upon). The next day he arrived with a woman which he mentioned was his painting apprentice. I expected a handyman to use a stud finder before placing nails in the wall for this project. Dave's way was literally drilling hole after hole into my wall until he found the stud, stating it should be here somewhere.......I told myself not to freak out because I'm sure he would patch the holes after he was finished. Nope he didn't. Yes he was able to fix my closet rod and screw them into metal studs, but he left ovea dozen holes in my freshly painted back closet as well as dust and nails in the bottom of my closet and over my clothes. The kicker was when I paid him $80 cash, he asked me why I didn't leave him a tip? I mentioned he had slept through our appointment yesterday and he replied that doesn't count and to leave him a Yelp review. Here's the review. I am Appalled by the quality of work and holes left in my wall along with condescending remarks he had made when he was finished with the project. Very unprofessional. First the good: He reponds to text quickly: The Bad: He charges you $100 to come out to make quote with out telling you before hand. He moved a spigot on my parents shower and quote "fixed it". The quote to change out a bathroom faucet and drain, and put in shower pan came after much delay and promises was verbal and over the phone. Excuse like "I was busy" or "I took the whole Monday off even though I promised you a quote on Monday" After texting him for up date yesterday he asked me or a apology for asking him to reply in a timely manner. Last month, the sliding gate on my chain link fence was getting difficult to close, and would sometimes get "stuck." I got several estimates from fence companies to replace the metal roller wheels and they ran into the $500 to $600 range. David is unprofessional and needs to learn customer service. My mother has an apartment our family helps her to manage and needed some small repairs. When I called David he said he would meet with me on Sunday his day off to look at the repairs , which I thought was very thoughtful. However, he forgot the appointment with me! Then when I called him to find out why he didn't show up on time, he tells me on the phone that he can still meet me and he will be there in 15 minutes. I end up waiting for him over a half and almost left because I called him twice to see if he was lost, but he never answered. He catches me just about to leave the apartment, but never apologizes for his forgetfulness and tardiness. I just let it go and show him the repairs. As we are looking around the unit he looks up at a smoke detector in the unit and test to see if it is working. The battery is dead and says, "Really?" I thinking to myself is this guy criticizing me because I don't have a working battery in my smoke detector? The unit is empty and I am going to replace the battery later when I find a tenant. I brush that off and tell him that I will text him the code of the lock box where I will place the keys for the unit. I text him my email to send me the invoice and the lock box code soon after. The next day he calls me around 3:00pm in the afternoon and tells me that he is going to the apartment soon to do the repairs. I am surprised that he has not done the repairs already. I was hoping to see it done so I could inspect David's completed work because I was headed out to the apartment to show it to someone who was interested in possibly renting it. So, as I was speaking to him on the phone about when he will be done with the repairs, how he wants his payment, and sending me my invoice, he starts telling me excuses about not seeing my text message yesterday because he gets so many texts. I thinking this is your business; he should be looking at his texts carefully! Then when I asked about payment he explained that because this would be the first time doing business with me then he wants his payment right after he is finished his job. I understand his position, but he wanted me to drop the check off at his place. The last handyman I worked with said the same thing to me,but at least met me half way at an agreed spot. David said to me that he doesn't want to chase his money. So, I decided that if he treats his customers this way I might have problems with him as he does my repairs. When I looked at the Yelp reviews closer, I was right to not hire him. I paid for the materials he bought to do the repairs and we parted ways. I would never recommend David to anyone. read more
