When I went in for my checkup at the Green office in May, I had no idea that in October, I'd still be struggling to get a pair of glasses that I could comfortably wear. In May, I had two pair of glasses that fit me perfectly. By the time I finally gave up on Handel Vision, I not only had no usable new glasses, but the old ones were ruined as well, all the result of information withheld and a couple of plain old untruths. Dr. Slavik told me I needed to get new glasses, as my eyes had changed significantly. In spite of already being in the middle of some personal issues, I went ahead and ordered glasses. To make the transition less nerve-racking, I ordered the exact same make and model (plastic) frames as one of the pair I had been wearing. Things went south early when the completed eyewear arrived with wired nose pads installed. I had them send them back and when the replacement pair came in, they could not fit them to me properly. At this point, Dr. Slavic told me they could simply pull the lenses and put them in my old pair and my problem would be solved. Well, they did that and they ruined my old pair, twisting them out of shape. Even putting the old lenses back in did not salvage them. Well, at least I still had one old pair I could wear. However, the prescription in those was extremely old. Optician Sandy told me that they could create new lenses for them and they would not change the fit by doing so. Foolishly, I agreed to this solution. Needless to say, when that pair came back with new lenses installed, I didn't even need to put them on to see that they were completely ruined. I went back and forth with their optical department for months, including ordering (on my own) another pair of frames of the same make and model they initially ordered for me, and having them make completely new lenses for them. Again, they could not adjust them to fit comfortably. I spoke with the owner of the practice (Tom Handel), and he promised me they would resolve things. He had me go to the Fairlawn office where the head optician again was unable to resolve the issue. By now it was October. The whole process had engulfed my life... as, of course, seeing is pretty important. Out of desperation, I asked Dr. Handel if he could recommend an expert in the NE Ohio area that could help me to resolve my issue. The only response I got was to go back to his optician and try on more frames (and of course make yet another purchase on top of the ~$1000 I had already spent). I kick myself continually for going back to this place repeatedly and actually expecting to get my problem resolved. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." My mental health has suffered since May, but I am finally starting to regain it having "cut bait" with this outfit and going elsewhere. If you want to remain sane, do yourself a favor and find just about any practice other than this one. read more

Hey Yelpers, Service: So I went back and received much kindness from an employee named Ethan. He even helped with choosing glasses! He was respectful, generous and honest and this greatly impacted my trust in this business. Ambiance: the location was clean and orderly with styles clearly labeled. The cashiers could have been more inviting as my previous post stated, but Ethan's kind heart buffered their attitudes. Price: let me tell you I paid almost $500 for these glasses with over $200 going towards an anti reflective coating that is currently not anti reflective, so I'll have to go back to see what can be done to fix what I paid for. Notifications: So you know how you're supposed to get notified when your glasses arrive? Well, when I called to ask Karen if they had already arrived she checked then said, oh wow they are here, they don't usually come this fast. I wanted to ask why I wasn't called but said forget it. After letting them know I was coming, I got a late notification that my glasses had arrived. Now I know I might have to physically check when an order arrives. The eye exam part is a 5-star rating. It's the rest that takes it down. I didn't buy new frames but rather got new lenses in existing frames. The lenses were very expensive as they had all the bells and whistles. I have VSP for a discount program and with other providers, there was transparency around how much I saved but not Handel. The lenses for one pair were over $500 and I have no idea what I saved through VSP (I could have asked I suppose). When I picked up my glasses they had me look through them to ensure the lenses were good but there was no fitting (making adjustments, tightening, etc. and I didn't make a fuss. I didn't notice until after I got home that they didn't even change out the little rubber nose piece so the crappy old one is still there. For the price, I just feel let down. read more

The woman helping me asked me what kind of style I liked and assisted me in the store for sunglasses I might like. She even went in the back and pulled many more for me to try on! I'd give negative stars if possible. Avoid at all costs. Every time I've visited there has been one problem after another, mainly due to the old, blonde Karen at the front desk. Went in for an eye exam for new glasses - received snarky attitude from her. Finished the exam, found new frames - tech cut her finger and bled all over them. Paid for two sets of glasses, new glasses and to have original glasses upgraded to a distance set for driving. Sent to the lab. Three weeks later back to try them on - received snarky attitude from Karen. Tried on glasses - lab ignored the measurements and sent Mr. Magoo glasses. Sent them back to lab. Two and a half weeks first set of glasses arrive correctly. Three weeks later driving glasses are ready - more attitude from Karen and hit with an unexpected charge about $125. Was coming from working a hospital shift and didn't have a CC with me. Staff won't release my already paid for glasses even through my wife and I had recently spent close to $1000 for exams, several sets of new glasses, frames, upgrades, etc. They could have billed me, but no. Find another business that will value you as a customer. Avoid this one. Update: Received the driving/distance glasses. Tried them out and there is an issue with them. I can actually see better with out them than with them. Not sure if it's the prescription, the lab or what but why am I not surprised. Going to ask for a refund. I almost would rather eat the cost then have to go back in and deal with this office. Buyer beware. read more

Handel Vision Clinic certainly isn't the cheapest vision center in the area, but it continues to be the best. My glasses are my most faithful and necessary companion, so I am super picky about what frames I choose, usually wearing them for 5 or so years until I replace them. My last pair from Handel lasted me those 5 years no problem. In my quest to finally update my prescription and frames, I went to every vision center in the area, and tried on dozens of glasses. Most places were friendly, greeting me and then leaving me to browse on my own. But when I walked into Handel, Tiffany came out to help me, pulling glasses that fit the description of what I wanted, and listening to what I liked and disliked about each pair. She spent quite a bit of time in the back, digging through brand new boxes of frames to find all she could for me. I was so grateful for her time and attentiveness. She then went to a lot of effort to figure out whether or not I have vision insurance (my husband recently got a new job and switched insurance, so I wasn't sure) and was so patient through it all. In the end it turned out I didn't have vision insurance so the pair I wanted ended up being a more expensive than I can justify right now, so I will have to settle for a discount vision center. But you can be sure that the next time I need a new pair of glasses, Handel will be the first place I visit. read more

This establishment has over the past half year been everything from appealing to disappointing. A wide range with both positive and negative points. I'm quite a distance to travel here so I would not spend future time coming here as per the above mentioned. Several friends highly recomended Handel vision. I was very impressed with the knowledge of the staff and especially the Dr.( I saw Dr. Kim). The technology they use is top notch & he was patient enough to explain everything and answer any questions. Ive been to many optometrist that were all just standard, but I feel in good hands here. Their frame selection is fantastic and fits all price ranges. The staff also made extra phone calls without me having to ask to make sure all my extras were covered. I first came here back in 2012. I saw dr king then and was pleasantly surprised that 5 years later he remembered me when I just recently decided to go back to this vision clinic. They had me as a new patient because it had been so long but they treated me as if I had been coming for years. The staff was super friendly. The doctor I can say is probably my favorite and the selection of frames is ridiculous! I asked for some suggestions and she literally brought me 15 pair to start. Once I narrowed down my thoughts I had another nice selection. It was nice to see that the tech was able to help me pick out the perfect pair of glasses. Waiting patiently for them to come it. Friendly, courteous staff. Appointment actually almost started on time and Dr. Handel was very personable during the examination. They also have a great selection of stylish frames with many top designers. My only complaint is that they charge extra for the eye mapping (to avoid the awful dilatation drops). For years my husband has been telling me what a great physician Dr. King is (he caught an issue with his retina few years ago) so I was excited to get my first check up at the clinic when we were in town recently. I have to say, I was so impressed with him, his staff, and the clinic itself. Everyone was very nice and helpful. A few years back, I switched from my long-time eye doctor to Handel Vision, and I am so happy I did. They are by far one of the best medical establishments I have ever visited, and believe me, I see a lot of doctors! Everyone is so courteous, including Dr. King, who is a pleasure to meet with. He is always in good spirits and making jokes. He also takes the time to listen to your concerns and answer questions - a rarity in medicine today! I really like his youthful energy compared to the somberness of a typical doctor. Despite the extra time he takes, I have rarely, if ever, had to wait past my appointment time, and the staff is really helpful in verifying any insurance questions. The facility is brand new and everything is always orderly and clean. It's clear that they sanitize all the equipment after every patient. They also have some pretty cool diagnostic technology - in fact there's a whole room devoted to it. I was skeptical at first of the Optomap that they try to sell you at your first visit, but after having done it, I would never go back to dilation! It literally takes less than a second per eye, and they can show you exactly what the inside of your eye looks like! Pretty cool! Plus, they then have a record to compare to. Of course, they have an awesome showroom of glasses to try on and staff that is great at helping you find frames that look great. They have everything from designer labels down to lower-cost frames, but I wouldn't say that anything in their showroom is dated looking. The one complaint that I would have is that they did not bill my insurance correctly, even though we specifically talked about it at my visit (since it was a medical visit that required special tests vs. regular check-up, we needed to bill my medical insurance first instead of dental/vision - a complication of how vision insurance seems to work). However, when I brought the issue to their attention, they resolved it promptly. read more

It truly is as good as it gets here at Handel Vision Clinic. I have been going here since it was a tiny operation on Kenmore Blvd way back. They have been growing and enlarging their practice ever since. I have no doubts as to why. The receptionists are super friendly and greet me as if they know me. I guess, after all these years, they do, but it sure feels great when I walk in the door. Dr Kenneth King has been my optometrist for years. He is the main reason I continue there. I enjoy my visits so much when we laugh over, "Which is better, 1 or 2?" He is thorough and very knowledgeable. I always leave knowing exactly where my eyes are in health issues and I always leave with a smile on my face. He is a riot and a very good doctor on top of it all. I will continue going to Handel Vision Clinic as long as he is there. read more

I purchased 2 sets of high end prescription lens and frames. The deposit was not credited properly, and the prescription was not carried out properly. The practice manager did not assist in correcting the problem until my balance was paid. This practice is more concerned about $$ than customer satisfaction. The optometrist I saw was arrogant and "matter of fact." He had virtually no personal warmth and interest in me, just "doing an exam." I saw the good reviews and felt reassured to use their services, but after 4 visits I am convinced they try to upsell their products. Next visit will be to an ophthalmologist (eye MD) and getting my prescription eyeglasses on line at a fraction of the cost! read more

They made me feel like a princess... bringing out several frames, based on the styles I like, then taking the time to narrow them down to the perfect pair. One of two things happened with my glasses order. Either everything went wrong through no fault of Handel Vision, or my long wait was the result of mistakes made by Handel Vision. I'll leave it up to the reader to decide. I called to make an appointment on August 20. Their first available time was September 19. I was okay with waiting a month so I confirmed the appointment. My September 19 appointment went well. Everyone was kind and helped me find the glasses that are right for me. I was told that my glasses would be ordered and would arrive within a couple of weeks. The employee said that they would call me when my glasses arrived. On October 10, having received no call from Handel Vision, I called to check on my glasses order. I was told that my glasses should arrive within a week. On October 20, having received no call from Handel Vision, I called to check on my glasses order. I was told that there was a dispute between the lab and my insurance company, causing a delay. I was told that the dispute should be resolved soon and they would call me when my glasses arrived. On October 27, having received no call from Handel Vision, I called to check on my glasses order. I was given several reasons for the delay in receiving my glasses. First, I was told that my "order was lost for some reason." I asked why my order was lost. The employee did not know. Second, the employee said that my prescription was of a high magnitude, and that was the cause of the delay. Third, the employee said that the glasses are shipped by regular mail, and that can take some time to arrive. The employee said that she had no other information about my glasses order, and suggested that I call back next week. This is a small point, but the magnitude of my prescription and the method of delivery are factors known at the time of my first appointment, and should not be treated as excuses for why my glasses are taking longer than expected. On November 3, having received no call from Handel Vision, I called to check on my glasses order. I was told that the lab has finished the lenses but has broken the frame. The employee said that additional copies of the frame are on back order. I asked how we should proceed so that I can get my glasses. The employee said that she hoped the glasses would arrive next week, and said she would call if they did arrive. On November 10, having received no call from Handel Vision, I called to check on my glasses order. I was told that the glasses have shipped from Columbus as of November 4 but have not yet arrived. The employee said she would call when the glasses arrived. On November 14, I received a call stating that my glasses arrived. I went to Handel Vision that day and picked them up. I like my glasses, but if I was told at the outset that my glasses would take 8 weeks to arrive (12 weeks from when I scheduled the appointment), I may have looked elsewhere. I have worn glasses for 21 years and this is the longest I have waited after ordering them. I have no way of knowing whether the extreme delay I experienced in receiving my glasses was or was not Handel Vision's fault. All I know is that the situation left a sour taste in my mouth. For my next pair of glasses, I will find another vision specialist. read more

Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful, from the front desk, to the girls who helped with picking out glasses and fitting the contacts, to the Doctor. I brought my 13 yr. old in for an eye exam. After the exam, the Dr. came out to explain the results to me. It turned out he needed a very strong prescription in one eye, and a slight one in the other, so they suggested contacts. They spent a long time one-on-one with my son, giving him tips about putting them in and taking them out. They also said if he was having any trouble with them, to just stop in and they would sit down and give him more assistance, no appointment needed. I went there to get glasses for my son that has autism. I asked for glasses that would fit his face because he had a round face so he needed a special pair to fit, The woman came back with these expensive glasses. I asked her when they came back would it fit my son's face, The two pair of glasses came up to $700.00 and the glasses are to small. Handel would not take the glasses back I was told he has to keep those because those we picked out (remind you his assistant picked out the glasses) she claim they didn't have a lot of glasses for people with a wide face. I found this do be disrespectful and on top of that we were told we would have to see another eye doctor, I assume its because I wanted my money back on glasses my son cant wear or see out of. Since Dr.King left the practice they have gone down hill. I won't be going back and none of my friends or family will go there for glasses. Terrible service read more
