When I went in for my checkup at the Green office in May, I had no idea that in October, I'd still be struggling to get a pair of glasses that I could comfortably wear. In May, I had two pair of glasses that fit me perfectly. By the time I finally gave up on Handel Vision, I not only had no usable new glasses, but the old ones were ruined as well, all the result of information withheld and a couple of plain old untruths. Dr. Slavik told me I needed to get new glasses, as my eyes had changed significantly. In spite of already being in the middle of some personal issues, I went ahead and ordered glasses. To make the transition less nerve-racking, I ordered the exact same make and model (plastic) frames as one of the pair I had been wearing. Things went south early when the completed eyewear arrived with wired nose pads installed. I had them send them back and when the replacement pair came in, they could not fit them to me properly. At this point, Dr. Slavic told me they could simply pull the lenses and put them in my old pair and my problem would be solved. Well, they did that and they ruined my old pair, twisting them out of shape. Even putting the old lenses back in did not salvage them. Well, at least I still had one old pair I could wear. However, the prescription in those was extremely old. Optician Sandy told me that they could create new lenses for them and they would not change the fit by doing so. Foolishly, I agreed to this solution. Needless to say, when that pair came back with new lenses installed, I didn't even need to put them on to see that they were completely ruined. I went back and forth with their optical department for months, including ordering (on my own) another pair of frames of the same make and model they initially ordered for me, and having them make completely new lenses for them. Again, they could not adjust them to fit comfortably. I spoke with the owner of the practice (Tom Handel), and he promised me they would resolve things. He had me go to the Fairlawn office where the head optician again was unable to resolve the issue. By now it was October. The whole process had engulfed my life... as, of course, seeing is pretty important. Out of desperation, I asked Dr. Handel if he could recommend an expert in the NE Ohio area that could help me to resolve my issue. The only response I got was to go back to his optician and try on more frames (and of course make yet another purchase on top of the ~$1000 I had already spent). I kick myself continually for going back to this place repeatedly and actually expecting to get my problem resolved. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." My mental health has suffered since May, but I am finally starting to regain it having "cut bait" with this outfit and going elsewhere. If you want to remain sane, do yourself a favor and find just about any practice other than this one. read more

My family and I had been going to Handels in Green for many years without a single issue. Dr. Handel is amazing and runs a tight ship! Then our insurance changed and we had to find a new optometrist. Unfortunately we were given very few options and forced to go to Clarkson Eyecare in Green, which is possibly the worst experience my family and I have ever had with any business. We are going back to Handels where they're professional, knowledgeable, never pushy or aggressive and always nice. read more

So I have gone here for my eyes almost 5 yrs. 3 years ago I recommended my dad go here. In March of 2021 he got new glasses. Took his glasses back because he said they were blurry. The office Told him to bring his glasses on in. What she did. They ran some tests and said nothing was wrong but since glasses back out to be checked. He got the glasses back they gave it back to him and he still complained that they were very blurry to the point where he wasn't wearing them. He's 70 years old and he certainly does need to wear his glasses. Concerned I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist for him because nobody was telling him why his eyesight suddenly got blurry smack dab in the middle of his vision field. He goes to the ophthalmologist who tells him he has cataracts in both eyes in May of 2021. Two months later. Seriously?! When a patient complains his glasses are still wrong wouldn't another exam be appropriate? Were they missed the first time? Did the office know and didn't make a recommendation to see a specialist to have them removed? What happened? Makes me worry. July 1, 2021 he got the cataracts removed and he is seeing better. We are both moving offices after this. read more

The Handel Eye Group continues to impress. I was seated very promptly by the very friendly staff. They are also extremely thorough. They have state of the art equipment as well. I was highly disappointed with my experience here. The positive was the Dr. He was polite and professional. The problem was the staff. The front desk felt very unprofessional. It was like high school girls goofing around. They seemed more intent on what each other had to say than doing their jobs. Trying one up each other on jokes. There was a child in the office that day as well. Not sure who's it was ,but it was weird having eye tests done with a little kid sitting watching me. I was told I needed a series of tests done but not to worry it was all covered under my insurance. I had to make 2 trips in, and was told by 4 different ladies at the desk it was covered. Weeks later I get bills from them for close to $300. Not covered. My first experience with bi-focals. I called to complain I am not getting used to them can I switch for standard lens. I was told give it a few weeks and let us know. So I did. I still didn't like them. I called back in to tell them so, only to have them say that my time to return them has passed and there is nothing they can do. So now I am stuck with a $400 pair of glasses I don't like. The frame selection was nice but they were insanely expensive. I went there because they carry my insurance, but the price was so high that after they milk the insurance company I was paying the same as I would have any other place. Plus I told them what insurance I had and I had a choice of 4 frames to pick from. Looking back I should have walked at that. Sorry I ever set foot in there. read more

My daughter wanted contacts for the first time I was not even explained that you had to pay for an evaluation! I was only specifically told our insurance covers so much of the contacts that the remaining balance would only be $22 if I was to order her contacts today...this was last week! The perception is completely lied to my face saying that the contacts were ordered and paid for when I paid the $22 that's when I came this week they would check the contacts to make sure everything was good and I would even be able to pick up my contacts today! This did not even sound correct to me I even asked specifically five times to make sure I was interpreting this correctly and I was told yes you will get your contacts next week sir! I have a feeling I was told this so I would be tricked into making the company more money because it was about business not relationship or the customers satisfaction because I had told them in the first place with how large our family is we cannot afford to pay a couple hundred dollars for contacts I was there and reassured the contacts were only costing $22 and I was picking them up this week! When it was time to check out today to leave the doctor proceeds to tell me I need to order my contacts now this is when the issue began because I was already told specifically I have paid for the contacts I am picking them up which was a complete and utter lie then I am told there was just a miscommunication I was paying $22 for an a valuation of contacts with a prescription we already know our daughter has because she has the glasses that I need to pay $200 for contacts! This is the second time in the past two years I have had an issue that on his business was not done with a customer me in particular that once again I was told what I wanted to hear because they figured if they got me to pay the valuation price and lied to me and told me it was for the contacts that when it came time to purchase the contacts I would have just done it at that point that is the complete impression this business has given me because I had the same issue last year with a pair of glasses! This company is about putting money in their pocket lying to the customer to tell them what they want to hear to suck them into purchasing something greater I have never dealt with such a terrible business that lies to customers!!! They were told five times before we fit our daughter for contacts we cannot afford to pay anymore than the $22 that you were telling me it costs to put contacts in my daughters eyes and walk out the door with them and I was told specifically it was paid for I was picking them up today and we were conned into a purchase that would not of ever happened if they were honest and professional looking out for the customers interest and not their own to make a quick buck off of a loyal customer!
