Let me start out by saying I DO NOT understand the reviews that say the staff is not nice. The ladies working at the counter were so sweet and sociable. The bagels were delicious! I got and everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and my friends got a salt bagel with veggie cream cheese, absolutely delicious. There's a little seating area up a small set of stairs where you can see where they make the bagels. To conclude this is a super cute place, wonderful staff and has delicious bagels. Felt compelled to leave a review for the best bagel shop. I live in the area and my family had been going to a different bagel shop my whole life (won't name names). I never liked the bagels they got there so as an adult I set out to find my own spot. Hand rolled bagels is hands down my favorite bagel spot ever. These bagels are so unique, the crust is so wonderfully crispy/chewy and the insides are so doughy/bready and amazing- I really believe they have perfected the bagel. I live in nyc now and the bagels at Hand Rolled really are just as good or better than the top nyc spots. Whenever I visit my family now I go out of my way to get a bagel and pick some up to take home with me. I think the owner and staff are very nice and accommodating too. Based on the reviews it looks like some things could be pricey, I guess I've yet to order those items, because thus far I have found everything at this store worth every penny. I am writing this after having a plain bagel toasted with avocado- delicious. I'll add that most other bagel places maybe give you 1/4 of an avocado, but they were so generous I literally think there was a whole avocado on this bagel. Already wish I had another! read more

This place has some of the best bagels in Westchester. They are plump, crusty, and delicious! I think they coat the outside with a little butter before baking them. You can either dine in or take-out. They offer a wide variety of salads and make egg sandwiches as well. You should go early on the weekend as they tend to get very busy and close early! read more

Walked in today. 3 employees behind the counter and 2 helping one person. The third employee just stood there as I asked for help and we could not get one of the two other people behind the counter to help either. If you happen to live in the area, Rye, you would most commonly eat breakfast a Hand Rolled Bagels. I go in there since the bagels are amazing, but the service is terrible. If the owners know someone behind you in line, they will chat up a conversation, causing you to wait extra time for your meal. Once I ordered a cinnamon-raisin bagel, and it took the owners 45 minutes to make it. After my 45 minute wait, they got the order wrong and gave me a blueberry bagel. The bagels are good, but nothing to write home about. I wandered in and ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and lox. They asked if I wanted lettuce and tomato with that. Confused I said no. Who puts lettuce on a bagel? I got went to pay for my bagel and it was $7.95 plus tax! I couldn't believe it. I asked if there was some mistake, and they explained that I had bought a sandwich. A bagel with cream cheese and lox at a bagel store is a sandwich that one must pay $7.95. Give me a break. Even for tony Rye, that is unreasonable. In their defense it was on the menu, it just never occurred to me that a bagel at a bagel shop is a sandwich. Can't really comment on the rudeness others have written about, but who ever was behind the counter acted like I was crazy when I still think their business model is a little off. I wish them well, but I'm not going back. The bagel I had was not bad, but it is not the best I have had. There is better in Port Chester for half the price. Some people knock this place because they feel the staff aren't friendly. Whether they are or not, these are the best bagels anywhere! They get to know their regulars and usually become more friendly. You're only stopping in to pick up a bagel, it's not a sit down five course meal. Great bagels. Been going here for years and I drive from Greenwich. For those that don't get it this is not Le Bernardin. The workers have probably been up since 3:00 a.m. And there are lines stacked out into the street every time I go there. So cut them some slack because I think they are very efficient. I find many of the demanding customers far more rude and inconsiderate than the wait staff who are simply trying to do their job getting everyone served. read more

I go to this place all the time whenever I am in Rye I love the bagels especially the everything bagels.. No matter what time of day you go the place is always packed it is very small inside so it gets crowded very easily.. The people who work behind the counter are not necessarily rude they just deal with a lot of shit on every day basis I work in customer service retail so I know how it is to deal with people so I can see why they sometimes act the way they do especially the people that live in the town of rye they are very wealthy most of them at least and can be hard to deal with at times especially the bitchy rye moms who bark orders at the staff while talking on there cell phones and have no idea how to act in public..all you have to do is go in and order your food and wait for it to be made..don't listen to these other reviews about the customer service..enjoy! read more

For what it is (a small bagel/deli place), this is a legitimate five star establishment. I have never had a subpar bagel or sandwich here. Everything, cream cheese to tuna salad, is fresh and tasty. They are usually generous when filling your bagel/sandwich with the requested ingredients. The service is always quick. As a bonus there is a little area upstairs with tables to eat at. read more

The uncomfortably unfriendly staff I can suck up, but blatantly being overcharged is something unacceptable. If i'm paying $18 for 6 bagels and 1/2 lb tuna, then it better come with a smile. They did adjust the price when I asked to double check but something tells me that has happened many times before when I didn't have the time to check. Best bagels I have had in the last 10 years of searching for a "real" bagel throughout the NY area. Most bagels these days are nothing more than a round piece of bread. But these are superb, with a good crust and nice chewy interior. According to an article in New York magazine many years ago, not easy to do with the overall lower quality of the flour that most bakers are getting nowadays. Definitely worth a detour over to Rye for those of you who miss this simple culinary treat or just want to know how it should be done. read more

This little shop is a great place to grab a quick breakfast before heading to the station close-by. There are a lot of bagel shops in Westchester but this one is the best by far. They sell other pastries and it's great for lunch too! The staff can be a little cold sometimes though, if you don't know exactly what you want. The service is really shitty, which is a shame considering that the food is decent (although not amazing), albeit overpriced. Most of the staff does not speak any english, which is understandable; however, they rarely get orders right, and are often seen conversing with customers, who are somehow allowed to cut (and hold up) the line. Although nothing near a culinary masterpiece, I have ordered the same sandwich several times due to the fact that there are few breakfast sandwich places locally (Lenny's in Rye Brook is very good, albeit slow)- on the menu, the sandwich is labeled as "from the grill", yet fifty percent of the time it comes not toasted. How is this even acceptable? I have even requested for it to be toasted several times, but it seems that it depends on how lazy the staff is being. I guess it will remain in business due to lack of competition in the town of Rye, but finding another bagel place in Westchester is worth it to avoid the staff alone. read more
