This is hands down the best NY bagel you can buy in Westchester. I come from Brooklyn seeking the best fresh made bagels around. Crusty yet chewy, sizable but not pricey, excellent variety and well seasoned. The spreads are excellent and the Nova lox the best around. The staff is friendly and fast production to counter long lines during premium hours. Limited seating areas upstairs but most do takeout. Hands down it's the best around. These 5 star reviews obviously come from people who havent had a good Jewish nyc bagel strike 1- I stood at the counter while the workers ignored my presence- No greeting or "hold on please" or any acknowledgment- Normally this would be OK at a busy bagel shop, but only one other person in there at the time- I almost lost my bagel craving while waiting. strike 2- 85 cents for butter, OK well maybe they give you alt of butter- no, it was sparsely dabbled across my "bagel" strike 3- the cinnamon raisin bagel was OK, but I'm not sure I would place it in the bagel category- it was more like raisin bread or soft toast- no crisp outer coating that allows plain bread to be called a bagel. read more

While there is a decent selection of bagel flavors the staff is unbelievably rude and unprofessional. They appear annoyed whenever you ask for something to be toasted. A discourteous "WHAT ELSE" is snapped back after each bagel ordered. Coffee is very weak and watery. All employees need an attitude adjustment. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences. When I walk up to the counter to order the phone rings and the woman behind the counter picks it up. I wait silently for her to end the phone call but she asks me what I would like even though she is still on the phone. So I begin to order and then she puts her finger up and tells me to wait. I WAS waiting it was YOU who was asking me to give my order. Whatever, I give her my order, plain bagel toasted with cream cheese. After I pay she says we don't have any plain bagels. So I go over to the area with the bagels to see what they do have. At that point a man who works there decides he needs to get by me so instead of going around me he proceeds to barrel right through me. I end up getting a plain mini bagel toasted with cream cheese which is less than my original order but they don't give me a refund for the difference. I will not be returning. read more

Really great bagels. As with everything in Rye, they're not the cheapest; an everything bagel + cream cheese is $3.00... but the bagels are the best in the area. I think this is as close as I will get to my beloved NYC Ess-a-Bagels in Westchester and let me tell you, it is very close! Delicious, fresh, chewy bagel goodness. Favorites are the everything or garlic. Staff/service can be a little rough around the edges but I think that comes with the territory at a good bagel shop. I've only been twice and both times I was buying 2 dozen bagels for work events; the first time they didn't accept credit cards but most recently they did accept them for purchases over $5. Looking forward to my next visit where I hopefully get to finally try some of their cream cheeses or bagel sandwiches! read more

We went here for breakfast. I ordered a plain bagel, toasted, with cream cheese. The woman taking my order told me I did not want it toasted because it was fresh from the oven. I told her I did want it toasted, and she said she could not toast it because it was fresh from the oven (???). Fine. Untoasted. While the bagel was fresh, it was also extremely hot. She slathered on the cream cheese and wrapped it in paper. Put in the to-go bag with my other bagel (a spinach bagel with cream cheese-this one had no issue which is why this place gets one star). We also ordered two mango bubble teas with no milk which they cannot do because they make the tea from powder. Cancelled that order. We decided to sit in the empty chairs for the restaurant next door (which was closed) and quickly eat because I thought the plain bagel might melt the cream the cheese off. Also the complaints about the service is understandable, but if you're a regular, you'll understand the staff's dry sense of humor and overall (if sometimes subtle) warmth/friendliness. The woman working behind the counter started speaking in Spanish to the cook telling him that they were going to charge me extra for food that I didn't order, but little did they know I speak Spanish. As an essential worker during this Covid pandemic, I must say I was disgusted by the actions of the employees of this bagel shop this morning, 1/21/21 at approx 0900 AM. While working on the ambulance, I stopped by to grab breakfast for myself and my co-workers. I had ordered and paid for my food. I was then asked by one of the employees for myself and my partner to wait outside. The sign said 5 people allowed at a time inside of store due to covid precautions, and there was a total of two other people (total of 4) in the store. I relayed that they arent at max capacity. We were then told it was because we had covid and other customers need to be able to order food. That is a clear sign of discrimination with the comment of " you have covid" just because im wearing my work uniform while working on the ambulance. My partner and I then waited outside, in the cold, while other customers entered and exited at will. Another customer asked if we were waiting outside because the store was busy, I then answered them honestly saying that we were told we have covid and had to wait outside. They were disgusted of the treatment by the staff to myself and my partner, first responders and essential workers. I will never order from your store again, but you must know that the message about this mornings events will be passed along to others. read more

Amazing bagels! I can not get enough of their bagels and my family goes every Saturday and Sunday. The prices are also amazingly low, especially for the area. I mean .75 for a bagel? The old Upper Crust charged more than double that price. The only reason I don't give Hand Rolled 5 stars is because the service is not very good. I must say - I agree with all these other reviews that the women working behind the counter can be a bit bitter. They're not awful, but they act like everything you ask for is a chore for them and give a sigh. The food is great however - so I keep going back. I have only been twice both on weekend mornings, both times a line, so not quite sure how I ended up with a bagel that tasted a day old at 10:00 AM. Very bothersome for my once a month bagel fix. What is more bothersome is $2.25 for a buttered bagel. What a joke especially in light of the fact that they do not use "butter" but rather "whipped butter" that had been manipulated so much that it looked like mayonnaise. As the worker was about to smear the bagel I did asked "where is the butter" and she said "here, I know it looks like cream cheese". What a joke. I should have refused the darn thing but I was a little flustered when one of the managers insisted "whipped butter" is the same as "butter". I must concede she probably has never had euro butter and probably knows little about butterfat percentages but to charge a $1 for that crap (and people actually eat it) is pretty obnoxious. read more

it took me a long time, but I finally found my bagel place in Westchester - and this is it. I don't even mind the drive across Westchester, because the bagels are worth it. They always have the bagels I'm looking for versus other places that run out way too early. I've never had an issue with the service; they've always been cordial with me, but they joke around with a bunch of the other customers. Never seemed particularly rude to me, but then again, I'm just there to get bagels. It's a no frills place, but who cares? The food is what matters the most, and they win for that. read more

Let me start out by saying I DO NOT understand the reviews that say the staff is not nice. The ladies working at the counter were so sweet and sociable. The bagels were delicious! I got and everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and my friends got a salt bagel with veggie cream cheese, absolutely delicious. There's a little seating area up a small set of stairs where you can see where they make the bagels. To conclude this is a super cute place, wonderful staff and has delicious bagels. Pretty good bagels, but the service is terrible. If you go here, expect to wait an eternity for your food. The girls that work here are also very unprofessional. They are rude and I've witnessed one of them wipe her sweat on her hand and then touch someone's bagel. I pretty much wrote them off after that point. For the record, she is the loudest one there, I'm sure the customers know exactly who I'm talking about. Its a shame because I live very close to them and I'd prefer to just get my bagels from them. Felt compelled to leave a review for the best bagel shop. I live in the area and my family had been going to a different bagel shop my whole life (won't name names). I never liked the bagels they got there so as an adult I set out to find my own spot. Hand rolled bagels is hands down my favorite bagel spot ever. These bagels are so unique, the crust is so wonderfully crispy/chewy and the insides are so doughy/bready and amazing- I really believe they have perfected the bagel. I live in nyc now and the bagels at Hand Rolled really are just as good or better than the top nyc spots. Whenever I visit my family now I go out of my way to get a bagel and pick some up to take home with me. I think the owner and staff are very nice and accommodating too. Based on the reviews it looks like some things could be pricey, I guess I've yet to order those items, because thus far I have found everything at this store worth every penny. I am writing this after having a plain bagel toasted with avocado- delicious. I'll add that most other bagel places maybe give you 1/4 of an avocado, but they were so generous I literally think there was a whole avocado on this bagel. Already wish I had another! read more

Very good bagels and, unfortunately, the reviews of the nasty workers is VERY accurate. There is one girl that works there that is very pleasant, the others, however are the most unpleasant counter help I've ever met. The owners seems to let them get away with it. Ultimately the blame falls on him because it's his store and he allows these workers to disrespect all the customers. The manager is the the worst of them all, she's acts like you're bothering her when you tell her what you want. I've got news for you; if it wasn't for us customers, you wouldn't have a job. Was just passing through and stopped in for a lunchtime bagel. It's no NYC bagel, esp lacking the crisp exterior (mine wasn't fresh from the oven, so that may have played a role) but it was perfectly chewy and had good flavor. I had scallion cream cheese and smoked salmon on a pumpernickel bagel. As others said, they were very generous with the filling. Would definitely stop in again if I was in the area. read more
