Been buying Hanalei poi several times a year to satisfy my cravings. However, I've bought it 2x so far from Maui Costco and found it really watered down both times. Best Poi I ever tasted. Since I'm a Hoale, I like to use it as an alternative to yogurt. It's pretty tasty mixed up with some freshly cut up local fruit. Right now, the local Dining in Paradise Guide for Kauai has a nice write up on Hanalei Poi and it's nutritional benefits. Brahhhh!!!! Hanalei poi is by far the best poi I've had. Now I've tasted many different poi, weather it be freashly made for a luau or fundraiser, bought in the store. The taste of Hanalei poi is unique it's unlike any, it's one of a kind. I know different islands have different variety or style but hands down Kauai's Hanalei poi is #1. I reeeeaallly don't want to give Hanalei poi 3 stars, but I recently bought a container at a store here on O'ahu and discovered to much horror that it had been watered down quite a bit. I was looking forward to the yummy poi, thick, almost like pa'i'ai, but was so disappointed. A couple of days later, I mentioned this to a friend at work and she said her husband was just talking about the same thing! Please, Hanalei poi, please don't give in to greed. Poi doesn't get better than this unless you make it yourself. You can tell it's fresh. It's thick not watered down. If you like um sour, age um; more watery, add water. But if you like it thick and fresh, eat it straight out of the container like I did when the bitchy TSA lady said poi is a "liquid" at Lihue airport. Pshh! Hello aunty, poi is pounded kalo root and this poi does not have enough water in it to be called a liquid. Whether you eat poi with fish or honey, this is where it's at! read more

Am updating my previous review. Made Hawaiian food for the family so stocked up with frozen Hanalei Poi and froze 2 containers of regular poi. The frozen poi, thought pricey is highly recommended. I followed the instructions, and added just a little water, and microwaved. The poi came out so smooth! No need to arm wrestle. I then squeezed out the water from the regular poi and microwaved. The result was pretty good. I don't think the regular poi is supposed to be frozen, but it still works. read more
