Grab some food like spam musubi which was our fave to eat for your hikes or the beach. They have bentos and a variety of sweet and salty items but don't go too late as they do run out. Since they are part of the ABC Store family, you save your receipts to get a free gift when you spend a certain amount of money. We went to several markets but this one was our go to. They also carry everything else like souvenirs, water shoes, etc.

We both bought their beef and broccoli lunch specials ($12). I requested to have double rice instead of the dreaded Mac salad. After waiting almost 30 minutes for our lunch- I received Mac salad instead of my double rice. Although overall a decent deal- the beef was tough, it had ok flavors- but to be honest, I've had better B&B a home (Dallas). Oh well- will try something else another time for a 2nd chance.

I walked into this small shop to find a very friendly atmosphere with the clerk explaining how the shop started its journey. At first I was not interested in buying anything there, until I saw the hot sauce. Thankfully the clerk/cashier offered a free sample of the hot sauce while explaining how it was made and who the chef was. I was impressed with the flavor and texture of this amazing Hawaiian sauce! The soy sauce tasted incredible as well! The twist this chef puts on regular every day sauces is incredible. It's delicious. Imagine tasting a hot sauce without a chip or cracker, just the sauce, and enjoying every bite. You can't do that with regular hot sauce! The store itself is more like a small town shop, clean and neat, fully stocked and decorated to match their product line. I left the store without buying. Three days later I went back and purchased 3 bottles of hot sauce for the flight home! I've used it on every dish I've made this week! It's delicious!

Thankfully the Gaylord residence was able to ask someone working there and they mentioned being open till 3:30, opposite of their voicemail which said 5 pm. Wis their hours were a bit more consistent. The shop has caramel which come in 6 different flavors and we got to sample some. They also have chocolate covered caramel, pretzels, pineapple, apples, and bark. If food isn't your thing, they have apparel like shorts, aprons, towels, mugs, cards, cups, coloring books, and hats. There is a small window you can see where they make the caramel. The macchiato caramel was soft and coffee flavored. The perfect mix of sweet and salty. The Oreo caramel apple was good as well. The caramel was soft and very thin around the apple so it felt more like eating an apple versus something covered in sticky caramel. Make sure to check the bottom of the bag if you plan to share these. Some batches had only a month and nothing past 2 months. If you are heading over to the Gaylord property and want to visit the sweet shop, make sure to call ahead.

Hawaiian Air allows each passenger to check in 1 box of Pineapples FREE --no extra baggage charge provided the box is less than 10 pounds. Here they have boxes with handles for 2 or 3 Pineapples. The very nice older woman who runs this place says they pack the Pineapples fresh everyday and you have a 1 week to eat them after you get home. You cannot pick the Pineapples--they are packed by her, box sealed, and certified for clearance at the Airport. All Pineapples have to go through an inspection at the airport--there is special place for that near check-in. Now this is KEY: You are not allowed to leave Kauai with Pineapples grown in Kauai! The only Pineapples certified for Air Travel back to the Mainland are the Maui grown Pineapples. She will not certify for air travel the local Pineapples. They also make Pineapple smoothies that were great. They also cut up and sell local Pineapples for your hotel which which were also great. Easy free parking in the dirt lot. Stop here to bring Pineapples back home with an easy to carry box or buy pre-cut local Pineapples for your hotel room.

We ended up purchasing a total of 8 bags for ourselves and extended family. (You get a slight discount if you purchase 7+). Each bag is typically $10, so not low cost, but on par for Hawaii. Their nut butters are so fresh and with crispy bits -- perhaps the best I've ever had, and the only reason I didn't purchase a large jar or two was because I was trying to avoid checking in a bag at the airport!
