This dental office is billing my 81 year old friend for services she did not receive, and has sent many billing notices that upset her. Please do not accept this business as a BBB client, they are causing great distress to a senior citizen for no reason, she has not had dental work in more than a year! I was a patient of Hampden Dental Group in Aurora for 4 years and I will say the majority of my experience with them has been fine but there are some things that have made me decide to switch dentists. The first reason is that there have been 3 different dentists in the four years I have been going here, not sure the reasoning but there seems to be a lot of turnover in that sense. The next issue I had was one of the dentists (not the current one) told me I could really use Invisalign and that I could get a discount on it. I was in my late 30's at the time and have never needed braces or been told I did prior to this so this felt like a money grab. The final issue for me was I had a regular exam this past August where it was recommended I get a new crown. Apparently the dentist asked if I had the old crown done within the last 5 years and I said no. We got my crown appointment scheduled for 3 months later so I came back in November and had my crown taken off and a temporary crown put on. When I came in for my second crown appointment in December, Ashley at the front desk told me that my insurance denied the crown because it had not been 5 years since my last crown on that tooth. I asked why they hadn't called to verify benefits before my old crown was taken off and was told it was because I had told the dentist it was older than 5 years. I told Ashley and one of the dental hygienists that I barely even remember the conversation. The dental hygienist stated clearly that the dentist always asks patients if the crown is older than 5 years and that I should have known the date of my last crown. In the end I had to pay out of pocket for the new crown. The fact that they used my conversation with the dentist as the reason not to call to verify benefits seems negligent and lackadaisical. Also, when I called the insurance myself after this happened I found out that if we had waited 30 days it would have been covered. Lastly, I talked to my brother-in-law who is a dental surgeon in Texas and asked if this was common and he said there isn't a standard but at his practice they always verify benefits prior to treatment to prevent issues like this. He also mentioned he found it odd that the dentist asked if it was older than 5 years. He stated that if the crown is bad or there is an issue you replace it, regardless of how old it is and this may be a tactic to try to take advantage of insurance knowing they will cover it if it's older than 5 years. I don't know if that's the case here, but I would rather go to a dental office where I don't have to question whether or not they have fully honest/ethical practices. read more

Don't Go Here! The dentist is Robert Hails. He is a clown. They give me an estimate and then after the work is done charge a whole new price (twice the amount). They add on all these hidden fees. The clown put two shots in each side of my lower jaw for a bridge. It caused me to have all these mouth ulcers and then when I came back for this charged me an office visit for his mistake. He has his helpers do most of the work and they don't have a clue what they are doing. If you want very bad dental work done and your pockets emptied this is the place otherwise definitely look elsewhere...this guy is a very bad dentist and a crook!!! read more

This staff was extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. The doc was the only kind part in the visit but was quick to leave when there was an issue. I called to ask for a price on cleaning. Lauren said it was $59 for new patients and they had an opening the next day. I asked how much after the first cleaning to which she told me she couldn't give that info out over the phone. All legitimate health care services should at least offer a range. Despite the red flag, I scheduled and arrived early as instructed to fill out paperwork. I was completely forgotten about and had to ask 40 minutes later how long the wait would be. No one offered an apology. The tech, who didn't speak to me, proceeded to take my x-rays. I was left to sit for another 15 minutes before the Dr. came in. He spent a couple minutes with me and my images, explaining a recommendation that would be a conservative measure but not necessary. He would put together a treatment plan for me to review. Again I waited about 20 minutes. The tech came back and told me that it was taking a long time because my treatment plan was really expensive. I said I'm not concerned about the treatment plan. I am concerned with being in the office for over 90 minutes and I haven't gotten my teeth cleaned. She told me I wasn't getting my teeth cleaned. Apparently even though they made the appointment the day prior, I was not scheduled with a hygienist and that I would have to come back. Needless to say I got up to leave stopping at the front to confirm I, in fact, was not getting my teeth cleaned AND I was still getting charged for this visit. If you go to their website it specifically says "Healthy mouth cleaning, exam, and x-rays ON YOUR FIRST VISIT." This business has been reported to the FTC for false advertising as well as being fraudulent. read more

Amazing staff and service!!!! I haven't always been the best with my oral hygiene and was extremely nervous to go in there today. Olivia and Dr Hails couldn't have been kinder and non-judgmental. Very expensive, very unprofessional. In 2021 I had a procedure there two appointments for a total of $1,462.66 about a year and 3 months later I kept getting email and snail mail invoices for $86.74. I called the number listed for billing questions (it was just the office number) and was told they were sorry for the mistake and I could just ignore the invoices. Then in late December 2022 I received another invoice with the threat of collection. There are lots of dental practices out there, stay away from this one! read more

This office has the WORST communication. They booked me an appointment for wisdom teeth removal at another office. I had to put a $50 deposit down for it and I got a notification the week before confirming my appointment. When I walked into the other office for my wisdom teeth removal, they said they didn't have me booked. So both my husband and I took time off for it and I lost $50 that they still have not refunded me for. Nobody would take responsibility for booking my appointment incorrectly and nearly a month later, I still haven't been rescheduled even though I have called them twice and went into their office once. I will not be returning here. The only positive thing I have to say is both my husband and I had a great experience every time we had our teeth cleaned. It sucks that the dentist is losing clients because of the office staff's poor communication skills. read more

Back in September I was forced to find a new dentist due to a change in insurance companies. During my examination I was told that I needed treatment for gingivitis and that they would not be able to clean my teeth during the appointment. This second appointment would cost $200. Seeing that I brush and floss nightly without lapse, taking extra care for my braces, I was suspicious. During my routine tightening at Dr. Roger Elton's office, I asked if my gum conditions looked bad. Dr. Elton said my teeth and gums looked fine. I then made an appointment with my old dentist of 5 years Dr. Kuljis (who by the way has never overcharged and even took care of a chipped tooth for free once) and decided to pay out of pocket for a teeth cleaning. I asked my old dentist if I had any 4s justifying treatment for gingivitis, he also said no and that my teeth and gums were fine. Fast forward to today. I made an appointment again with hampden dental group last week. When I got in they decided to check my insurance. Lo and behold they stopped accepting it. They wasted my time yet again. Unprofessional and dishonest will never return. I technically shouldn't have returned after the first experience but i was too lazy to go through the hassle of switching dentists again. read more

I really liked this place when it was the previous dentist probably over a year ago. After my previous cleaning, she apparently moved on to a different practice and the current dentist took over. I don't remember getting a notification of this but it would have been nice to make that choice for myself. Similar to another review, the dentist walked in, looked around for 10 seconds and left and didn't introduce himself. This is how I found out there was a new dentist at this practice. This was probably 6 months ago. But I decided to stay and try it out and I really wish I didn't. I arrived yesterday on time for my crown appointment at 1 pm... Didn't even see the dentist until after 2 pm. He apologized but still a long time to wait when you need dental work. I'm understanding but the staff could have said something. I waited long enough for my first injection to wear off. I ended up needing 5 injections to get numb and while I know that's not their fault that my body wasn't reacting properly but he clearly really just wanted to get in there and get it over with. I've never had a dentist be so rough that it felt like he was hacksawing inside my mouth. Both the assistant and him were pulling me in different directions and then he basically shouted at me to keep my tongue relaxed. Which is hard to do with 2 people rummaging around in there. I would have appreciated more patience from him. He also had an attitude towards the assistant if he handed him the wrong tool or didn't do something right. Didn't appreciate that at all. Later, when the person was putting on the temporary crown, there was a point where it hurt so much I was crying and yelping and probably disturbing the other patients. And instead of stopping and letting me collect myself, she just kept going. She had an attitude when I had to stop her and sit up to prevent myself from choking on my own saliva (so much for suction). I couldn't breathe because I felt that I was on the verge of a panic attack. But thank you to the one hygienist or assistant who came in to comfort me. She was younger with long darker hair and glasses I think. And to top it all off, they let me walk out of their office with dentist crap all over my face and lips. Cement and whatever else they use- all over my mouth and face and not one person noticed or said anything. That was really the cherry on top of a really bad experience. So basically I'm going to get my permanent crown and then find a new dentist. read more

We have been visiting this office for the past year. Both my teenage children love the staff. We have healthy teeth and have not needed any extra treatment. We were referred to the orthodontist who comes in twice a month. We have had nothing but good experiences here. We have also not had a problem with billing as we pay for our services before we leave. They have my credit card stored so all I need to do is sign the receipt at the end of our visit. read more

When I came to this dentist TODAY I did not know my smile would be permanently changed by them shaving down my front tooth without my permission thank you a lot for shaving my perfect tooth that had no issue with ever since I've been going to this dentist it's been a complete nightmare smh. Have you ever seen a 46-year old man whine like a 2- year old because he had to go to the dentist? That was me, yesterday, when I found out I had a dentist appt. I had not been to the dentist in almost 10 years, for many reasons, but mainly because I had bad experiences the last couple times I went. I have played through games with broken bones, but to tell you I was scared like a small child in a dark room, is an understatement. Walking into Hampden Dental Group today, I might as well have been entering a haunted house...WOW, I was soooooooo wrong! From the moment I stepped in it was like I had been a patient for years. The entire staff from the front desk to the hygienists, to Dr. Kaploe was amazing. The family atmosphere is very prominent and the service is outstanding. After 10 years of procrastination, Dr. Kaploe and staff have put the scared child in me to rest and rejuvenated my trust in oral healthcare! Changed my address 5 times with them and they still could not send my statement to the right address. Then proceeded to call me and say I needed to update my address. They also provided a billing estimate for services. Once completed, out of the chair and checking out the price was 4x the estimate. They wanted me to pay an outrageous price before even billing my insurance. I argued with them and they took a small payment at time of service only to later tell me it was a different price entirely. I was given 3 different amounts owed. And when I check in to the front desk she said my name is not on there appointment list today! Like seriously! didn't get their shit together! I'm so pissed off! I actually had a wonderful experience with Hampden Dental Group. My sister referred me when I started having tooth pain again, and everyone I have dealt with has been fantastic and extremely helpful. The receptionist even went out of her way to make sure that I would be able to have all my dental work taken care of before my insurance runs out in a few days. I came in unannounced and without an appointment. I had chipped a front tooth unexpectedly 2 days before but I was camping and didn't want to ruin the trip for everyone else. There wasn't any pain so I figured it could wait. Dr. Kaploe saw me within a half hour and within an hour had my tooth filled and polished. She did a great job both functionally and cosmetically. The staff were all generous and showed great patience when asking all of my rediculious questions especially concerning financing. I have insurance so the out of pocket expense was less than $50 which I am most grateful for because financing anything medical or dental is my greatest concern. I highly recommend these guys. I decided to try them out and had great care until I had to deal with billing and the way they didn't ask how I wanted to take care of my bill instead of just charging my husbands credit card without authorization. Dr David Pelster is the worst dentist my tooth doesn't feel right after he worked on it. The billing department over charged me and said I would get a refund. Never got it and they are avoiding my phone calls. The office manager is never in and I have been promised a phone call and to this day I have never received it. My wife decided to use this dentist as it was convenient to where we lived. She went in for a cleaning and the xray revealed an infection. The dentist performed a root canal, and 3 caps. The root canal ended up not "taking". This office referred her back to the dentist who did the original root canal, as he had moved on from HDG. He said he couldn't fix what they had screwed up. Upon returning to HDG, she got to see yet another dentist (seems like a revolving door of trainees). Ultimately she had to have 2 extractions. Here it is only a year later, and the 3rd cap has just fallen off! What a joke this place is. read more

I just left doctor Kaploe's office in tears. She is the rudest, unprofessional, unsympathetic doctor I have ever encountered. I regret moving office's and having this as my primary dentist. I've had mild tooth pain and when I try to schedule an appointment they had nothing available. It has aggressively gotten worse, and I have a secondary orthodontist that is working on my Invisalign braces. At that visit, he told me I may have a cavity under the filing that doctor Kaploe filled. I called the office around 5:00 p.m on Friday, understanding that it would be closed but an on-call physician can help me with my problem. The receptionist told me that she will contact my dentist and see what can be done. Dr. Kaploe called me at a restricted number which I didn't answer unknowing it was her (who answers restricted anyways) stating I should take IBuprofen and if that doesn't work take Tylenol 3 (which is a prescription medication not an OTC) and then go to the ER. Friday night the swelling was unbearable and Saturday I woke up a pillow full of blood. I went to ER and was prescripted a medication for a terrible bacterial infection. I left a message at Hampden dental providing them the details of my ER stay and urgency to be seen. When I arrived I showed the dental assistant my photos and she took x-rays. Dr. Kaploe then joined the visit and asked a couple of questions and that's when to tug or war started. I stated I didn't appreciate having a dental office whereas there is no on-call dentist as teeth condition declined so rapidly. She stated she was the only dentist (there is also a male dentist)and that there wasn't any staff members to help. I have several fil-ins and some during a ER situation over the weekend; there is always an on-call dentist. Maybe because of the holidays none wanted to work, but that's there role as physicians. She started to perform an examination and took the sharp instrument and poked my already swollen and bleeding gums. I told no do not poke there (why would you, as anyone can clearly see the gross inflammation!). She stopped and said she sensed some hostility and asked what she wanted me to do to help me. I responded with fix my tooth and under the circumstances have some compensation for my ER bill. She then aggressively stated I should have come in earlier (which nothing was available as my already tooth cleaning is scheduled out for the end of April)and that I was not going to get compensated for my $100 ER bill and ran off left to check on my x-rays. Upon returning, she then stated she couldn't do anything further because based on the images, I may need ROOT CANAL (which the office does) and will provide me another specialist which is $50 additional. She clearly passed the buck to another specialist as she saw me as a difficult patient but I had every right to be frustrated with the culture of this dentist and how she treats patients. I am still in gross pain and I encourage everyone to see another dentist as Dr. Kaploe is an arrogant, awful dentist and needs re-training with bed side manner. It's quite evident for me to be needing a root canal and I was previously seen for a filling in December, she overlooks patients care and lacks attention to detail or if only to her benefit to pass along a referral. Shame on Dr. Kaploe and look elsewhere for your dental treatments. read more

I initially came in August of 2018 to get an exam on my right back molar tooth that been bothering me (I had root canal done on the tooth 5 years ago). I wanted to get that tooth pull. They did an X-ray but did not exam my teeth. The dentist cane in and looked at the X-ray and told me the root canal was good and I have 2 options to put a crown on or get it pulled. So they couldn't get a hold of my insurance so I left. Then they called me the next day to give me quote for the extraction. I have to pay $119.I waited because it didn't bother me that much. Then this January I decided to get the tooth pull because it been bothering me. After I went in to get my tooth pull. They said I need to come in for a cleaning. So they schedule that. I came in today for what I thought it's basic cleaning turn out to be a gingivitis cleaning. I was assuming it's a basic cleaning. Jasmine did my cleaning, she didn't even bother to introduce her name until I asked. She didn't even explain what she was going to to beside "you're here for a gingivitis cleaning correct?" So I respond "yes" because I'm still assuming it's a basic cleaning. So when I checked out they said I have to pay $63 (that's my portion). So I wasn't happy about it. Because usually insurane give you 2 free cleaning a year so I didn't understand why I had to pay. Oh because it was a "gingivitis cleaning" so I have to pay. Oh because no one went over it with me, no one explain to me what it was, no one give me a quote. Usually when I go to other dentist they would do and exam and tell me what kind of cleaning I need to get. But they didn't do it here but they said they did. It was really hard to find a dentist that doesn't try to rip you off. And I thought I found this facility that I like since it's close to home. I actually like the doctor that pulled my tooth but the staff are some what not friendly. Make sure when you go in for an exam to have everything quoted and printed out. I didn't get that the first visit because they couldn't get a hold of my insurance. I guess I have to look for a new dental office. read more

I too had originally given this Dental Group a 5 star based on the Dentist himself but after dealing with their reception staff regarding billing I have reduced my rating to less than 1 if I could. I have dual insurance. They require the patient to pay, out of pocket, anything additional after what they project the primary insurance will pay. Most dental practices don't do this. After 3 attempts of sending claim through my primary dental insurance and insurance rejecting stating the same rejection reason each time they finally got it right after the 4th time. I have since received an EOB from my primary. When I recently called the Hampden Dental Group to inquire as to when they would be submitting the claim through my secondary insurance the person on the phone had to get with "Charity", who I am still waiting on a phone call back from a month ago regarding the 1st or 2nd failed claim, and promised me a call back one way or the other. I didn't receive a call back that day. I called the next day and was told that they have to actually wait for the insurance check to clear before they can bill the secondary insurance company. Some lame excuse as to that's how they know know what to bill the secondary insurance. If I have an EOB and you have the check you should know what they have paid to know what to bill the secondary insurance. Meanwhile they are sitting on a large sum of my personal funds. Imagine how much money that Dental Group is sitting on collecting interest on and I'm pretty darn sure none of the interest is going to the patient whose funds they are holding. This is going on almost 3 months of trying to get a claim paid. Never in my 40 years of going to a dentist have I ever experienced these type of billing issues.
