Burrito Works Taco Shop

I still remember my very first taco…read more It was 1971, just after I moved to East Gary, Indiana. I had made a couple of friends at school, and one day they took me to a small Mexican fast food place called Arman's. I had never had a taco before. I didn't even know what one was. They ordered for me. That first bite changed everything. It was spicy, full of flavor, and unlike anything I had ever tasted. I couldn't stop eating them. Back then, tacos were under fifty cents, so I went as often as I could afford. That taste stayed with me. Fast forward to a couple of years ago when I discovered A1A Burrito Works. I walked in, and to be honest, the decor didn't impress me. But I wasn't there for ambiance. I ordered two tacos to go and headed back to my car. That's where everything changed. I tried to eat while driving. That was a mistake. These tacos were massive, packed with meat, lettuce, and everything that comes with "The Works." I had to pull over just to properly enjoy them. And then it hit me. One bite took me straight back to 1971. After decades of eating tacos all over the place, these were the first ones that brought that feeling back. The same bold flavor. The same satisfaction. The same experience I never forgot. Since then, I don't go anywhere else for tacos. If you care about flashy interiors, this might not be your place. But if you care about real flavor, generous portions, and food that actually leaves an impression, this is it. For me, A1A Burrito Works isn't just another taco spot. It's a time machine.

The service was always excellent and made you feel like you're in a real old school burger joint. No more. We tried it again this week for the first time in three years, but it's just not as good as in the past. The tallow fries were hot and delicious, but the burgers are not cooked as they once were, with a crispy edge. Now, the patty is just kind of gray and somewhat bland. The shakes were okay, but we miss the side-by-side shakes and special flavors they once had like Very Berry Strawberry. They could have adopted the service method many other fast-food restaurants use: ordering from a human being at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. That would be far better than the impersonal kiosk.

I am not a customer, just wanted to highlight how dangerous a representative of Hammock Pizza drives. This person drives a Toyota Venza, metalic gray, CZF P33 on Williamson Blvd this morning (about 8.30am) approaching the junction of Madeline Ave traffic light. He/She went into the right (turning lane) and cut right in front of me (I was driving straight on Williamson). I drive a Dodge Charge and I am no slow driver. I had to put on my emergency brake! I know you might be late for a delivery or meeting, but driving like that is endangering other drivers on the road. I had to give a one star to post this review, but would have given none! read more

Extremely disappointing experience with management and my order…read more I have never felt the need to leave a review like this, but my experience at Rocky's was completely unacceptable. I placed an online order and waited approximately an hour and a half for it, only to be told that the order had apparently never been printed. After waiting that long, I expected at the very least an apology and an effort to make the situation right. Instead, the manager, Shanice, was extremely rude, disrespectful, and dismissive toward me. What made the situation even worse was the attitude I received after I had already spent an hour and a half waiting for an order that was apparently lost because of an issue on the restaurant's end. The pizza I ultimately received was also extremely disappointing. As you can see from the photos, the pizza was poorly presented, messy, and looked like it had been thrown together rather than prepared with any care. Mistakes happen in restaurants. Orders get missed. Printers malfunction. I can understand that. What I cannot understand is treating a customer disrespectfully after the restaurant has already made a significant mistake. Management should take this situation seriously and review how this location is being run and, specifically, how customers are being treated by the manager on duty. Customers should not have to wait an hour and a half for an order that was never processed and then be treated as though their frustration is an inconvenience. I hope someone above the store level actually reviews this complaint and addresses both the handling of online orders and the way customers are spoken to when something goes wrong.

We did notice new staff and the waitress told us it was her 1st day). My husband got the same thing and was disappointed this time because it was no where near as good, not made the same, etc. A friend that was with us tried the antipasta salad again and the difference was alarming - more lettuce than anything, very little meat/cheese and it was just thrown on there - not rolled, no presentation. A new friend we brought got the meatball sub, along with me, and the bottom of our bread was burnt. That never should have left the kitchen. It took forever to get our food and we had a meeting that night so there was no time to return things to the kitchen for remaking. We thought it was a fluke so we tried again (ordering different things) - same result: bad food, bad experience. They are under new management ...again apparently. We ordered a large ceasar for the table and I was in shock to see the size of it! $9 for what would be a personal side salad anywhere else was absolutely ridiculous and not worth the price at all. Between the three of us we all had tiny portions and there wasnt even enough for us to all have a second helping that didnt consist of more than a few leaves. The wings were decent, ill give them that, but then we got to the mains. I was so disappointed that my pizza was really lacking flavor and was seriously undercooked and chewy. I didnt feel like having to wait for them to cook it longer so just waited till I got home to crisp it up properly. The chicken marsala lacked flavor as well and came with an overwhelming amount of pasta, which i suppose some would be happy about. The califlower crust was pretty good and the amount of toppings made up for the missing herbs, salt and maybe garlic in the sauce? Overall it was underwhelming.

It must be because of the lack of options in the immediate area. Supporting small businesses is so important and I absolutely hate to be so harsh but this was not only horrible but also expensive. The soggy pizza was topped with WAY too many toppings and it's really took away from the pizza. 3.) SALTY. This crust/dough was incredibly salty. Almost inedible. Crust is my favorite part of the pizza and this was just yuck. 4.) Poor quality ingredients. The mozzarella was especially bad. It looked and tasted so low quality. 5.)
