    A dog completes a vineyard!
    Elizabeth F.

This place is a true hidden gem. The vineyard is opened on Sundays from 1-5. There is a small sign for it on Riverside Drive just by its gravel driveway. The place is beautiful. There's patio seating and a lovely rustic indoor space. Now, the wine is pretty solid. On my previous visit, I had the Old Virginia Red (smooth, easy drinking type) and the bread and spreads (bread is from Raising Sun Bakery--delicious). I called it my lunch that day. On a more recent visit, I was with friends and ordered the Petit Verdot. Dry, but didn't quite have the pepper notes as described. We also got sangria (with pomegranate juice), very good and a bit strong. They add blackberries in the sangria, which offered a nice touch. We also got bread and spreads and some chocolates, too. It's a nice atmosphere and wonderful space. Virginia, the owner, thought about all the details. I love the peanuts at the table, it's a nice local touch. Service is attentive and helpful.

Had a private work event and Hamlet blew us, and the clients, away. Virginia was an absolute sweet heart and was happy to chat and share her story of the winery and how it evolved. The menu was seasonal and incredible. Tough to beat tomato pie and coconut cake, chased with some great wines. Purchased a few extra bottles to take home and I can't wait to crack them open and share. Cheers!

I cannot say enough good things about Hamlet Vineyards! Recently, we were visiting our offices in Martinsville with a client. I was looking for something fun to do with them and I stumbled upon Hamlet Vineyards. I almost didn't pursue it because I noticed it was only open on Sundays, but after calling and speaking to Virginia, I learned that we could host a private event here during the week! Virginia was WONDERFUL throughout the whole planning process. Between coordinating with multiple people at my company to go through all that corporate red tape and working out all the little details of the catering menu with me, she was just so accommodating! The caterer for private events is done by Jim with Rising Sun Breads. They plan a new menu for every private event and the options were limitless! At some point, we also had someone with celiac planning to join us for this event, so she couldn't eat any food prepared on a surface that had touched gluten. Kind of problematic with a bread company catering. But Jim was very understanding and was planning to prepare this gluten free meal in a completely different facility! We did not end up needing this, but I was very impressed with how accommodating everyone was. Then came the day of our event. The venue is absolutely lovely and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We ended up bringing corn hole and ladder golf, since it was such a nice day. We all sipped wine, nibbling on our appetizers of prosciutto wrapped asparagus and avocado, tomato, and feta toast, playing yard games, with the sun setting over the vines and the white washed barn behind us. We couldn't have asked for a more picturesque day! The wine was all wonderful, but my favorite was the Eltham. And the appetizers were also amazing and very fitting for the spring weather. As the sun got low in the sky, we moved into the barn for dinner. This consisted of a watermelon and feta salad, marinated roasted airline chicken with lemon and rosemary, pasta primavera with seasonal vegetables, classic southern tomato pie, and fresh baked breads with butter. Everything was delicious and very fresh. Our dessert was coconut pound cake with blackberries and crème fraiche. It was completely decadent, with a crunchy outer edge, but soft and dense inside and not too sweet. The fresh berries and crème fraiche were a nice addition to round out the flavors. No one wanted to leave, but feeling completely satiated of good food and good wine, we all made our purchases of bottles to take home and made our way back to the hotel. Two weeks after our event, I am still hearing comments about its success! Everyone was happy, especially the client, and our local employees were shocked to find a hidden gem in their hometown. Between the planning stage, food, wine, location, and service, everything was absolutely perfect about Hamlet Vineyards. I'm sure we will be back for another private event with clients in the future! And I wouldn't be surprised if the local employees now frequent Hamlet Vineyards every Sunday, when they're open to the public!

Hamlet Vineyards is all around incredible! From their stunning interior design, peaceful farm, tasty pickings and GREAT wines! My partner is from Martinsville, VA and whenever we are back down visiting his family, we cannot stay away!

Cindy was very helpful explaining the wines during our tasting

This is odd, this was hubby and my 2nd time here and things sure have changed a lot. We found them by accident when we went to visit hubbies parents. I'm not sure if they advertise, because the 1st. time we came, we were the only ones there. This time, it was very busy. It's the place to go, see and be seen! But we still like it!!

We decided to stop in for a visit on Saturday when the weather turned sour. Stanburn is a family run winery that sits on 20 or so planted acres. The vineyard itself is very well maintained and has a number of varietals planted. The tasting room is small and cozy and is decorated with awards, pictures, wine refrigerators, and some winery merchandise. Tabatha was very polite and was happy to talk about the winery and its history. Many wineries overlook this part and choose to focus on getting people through a tasting to get to the next group. It was nice to have a conversation to go along with the tasting. The wines were all refreshing. They are not overly tannic, so if big and bold tannic wines are your preference then you may not enjoy Stanburn's wines. Stanburn's Traminette was a treat. I find traminette to be hit or miss due to the often times unpleasant combination of aroma and residual sugar. Stanburn's take on this grape is to ferment it dryer which I found to be very pleasing. The Cab Franc Reserve was fantastic. The longer time in barrel greatly enhanced the character with a touch of oak that elevates this wine over the 2015 Cab Franc. The Chardonnay is clean and crisp and was held in stainless steel. If you avoid Chardonnay due to the "buttery" aspect, fear not. This Chardonnay was held in stainless steel which makes it a different beast compared against one fermented or aged in oak. I could keep going, but the bottom line is that if you're in the area, or if you see one of Stanburn's wines available for sale, do yourself a favor and give them a try.

We haven't been here in many years because the customer service was bad but not anymore! Laura greeted us as soon as we walked in and 10min later we were best friends. Now I didn't hurt that she was from Texas and so are we which gave us a lot to talk about but we really enjoyed spending some time learning about her and her husband the new ownership and just their plans for growing this winery. I would say that they definitely have a passion for serving others and have already engaged in the community raising money for different charities their biggest one recently was one for a cancer charity. I'm not much of a wine drinker my wife is but after tasting the Chardonnay which was fantastic we decided to share a bottle and they also have a bourbon barrel aged Cabernet which is amazing. We promptly came home joined the wine club and will definitely be back because it's only about a 30 minute drive from Greensboro. There are 11 wines that were the original Autumn Creek wines and then the new owners have added some new wines and new blends under the label Gioia dell'Amore Cellars. We liked all of the wines that we tasted. Our favorites were the Diamond Girl White & Red Blends and the Embrace Meritage red blend. After our tasting we purchased a bottle of Diamond Girl Red to enjoy on property. Outside the tasting room are a large deck and a brick patio with sweeping views of grapevines, a pond, a waterfall, a gazebo, a covered area and an event venue (where an anniversary party was taking place). It made for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

This trip was a 5 hour drive from where we live, so if we come back again, it would be for another family reunion. But, if you're local or a short drive away, it's definitely worth checking it out.
