Robert was our waiter who was excellent and very knowledgeable about the food and wine menu. We were very impressed by the menu options. The food was perfectly prepared with nice size portions. I had the stuffed chicken which was awesome; so much so it practically melted in my mouth! My husband had the beef brisket plate that had homemade greens with cheese and jalapeno macaroni!!! I haven't had greens that good in years! And on top of this it was reasonably priced. You can't go wrong here! We visited Chateau Morrisette to celebrate my nephew's graduation from Roanoke College. We had a light lunch at the restaurant before going to the winery for a wine tasting. The food was excellent. I had wonderful crab cakes. The Charcuterie board was amazing for the four of us. I totally enjoyed their Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. The staff was very friendly and helpful. No service to speak of. We waited around for approximately an hour waiting for one of the two employees to even acknowledge us in the Tasting Room. They appeared to be only interested in attending to the small groups of four that they were serving, no attempts to multi-task at all and welcome our group of four to the room. When one group had finished and left, the elderly gentleman was visibly and blatantly upset that he had to care of us. Never felt so unwelcome in a business before, let alone a winery. My husband and I went on Saturday (6/8), being my first time I had high expectations due to the fact that I was told this place was a great place to have wine. I surely was not disappointed, everything from the service to the overall ambiance was fabulous. With breathtaking views to the two very friendly dogs (Barnabus and I can't remember the other dog's name) was a lovely touch. Me and my boyfriend are new to drinking wine so right when we walked in we felt a little out of place but the staff were very quick to make us feel comfortable and guide us so that we weren't aimlessly wandering around. It is a family owned winery so one by one we met everyone while they were all teaching us different things about wine. Every single staff member that you meet is very passionate about what they do and it shows. They really take their time figuring out what you specifically like and they really don't disappoint with the recommendations! This place is also pet friendly! So while you're walking around enjoying the castle like building, you are also surrounded by a bunch of cute furry friends. Pictures don't do it justice, but trust me when I tell you that you will feel like you are in a fairytale when you come to this place. The staff really do an amazing job of making everyone feel welcome and definitely add a very happy and bright atmosphere that makes you want to frolic in a field. We did a wine tour late this summer around the Blue Ridge Parkway. Everyone told us Floyd was a must see little town - quaint, hippy and unique! The day we visited, the winery was packed! They had live music out on their patio, several options for drinks and snacks -- apparently in the area it's quite the to-do sort of place. If I lived nearby, I'd probably pull up a chair every weekend and enjoy the gorgeous view! We opted to do the entire tasting inside, including the cider tasting which was an extra add on. This wasn't the first time I'd tried the wines from the vineyard (they are often at the Virginia wine festivals around the state), but I appreciated having access to some of the rarer vintages and varietals. Unfortunately, as a wine lover, I wasn't thrilled with the selections at all. A lot of their fare is too sweet for my taste. Most of my party seemed to like the Chardonnay, but I didn't care for it at all. The only one I ended up picking up a bottle of was the Red Dog, mostly because it had a little spice on it that I thought would be nice with a meat and cheese plate. I actually ended up spending more money on additional extras - their homemade jam, the upscale Greek olive oil, and the ciders (those were totally worth the tasting and were absolutely delicious -- I adored the Cherry Ginger and my hubby loved the Chai version). There are all kinds of cool gift ideas available as well. Overall, it was a nice experience for the day -- the ambiance and setting are definitely higher than the 3 stars here, but the wines were just alright for me. So, I settled on that. If you're more of a sweet wine drinker, you'd probably dig this place a lot. read more

Wow. Glad you're open but that's where my satisfaction stops. Honestly one cash register on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. You left customers awaiting for over an hour. Packed closely together in a line. They have moved the sales to the non functioning restaurant, but do not provide space for social distancing or enough employees. Worst system ever! Overflowing trash cans, certainly no sanitizing between customers or between parties sitting on chairs at tables they provide. Risky, but once you travel all the way there whose going to leave? Beautiful winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Floyd VA. It's in a gorgeous setting surrounded by beautiful trees. I was lucky to come here in the fall so the trees were turning beautiful colors of red and orange. It was a gorgeous weekend day so it was crowded. The lines were long for tastings so we decided to sit outside and order some wine. I'm so glad we did. There is plenty of seating outside with lots of room for little ones to run. There was a female singer with a beautiful voice singing and entertained us for a couple of hours with familiar tunes. She was so good, I think she should try out for "The Voice" Seriously that good! The wine was just ok. I give it a 3. But everything else is so nice, including the staff, I rounded up to 4. They have several sweet wines which is not my style. The cost of a glass of wine is over priced too. They should lower the price especially since it's served in a plastic cup. I did enjoy the preserves/jams they make with the wines. I loved that you could also try them on crackers before you buy. The place is clean, restrooms are nice and clean, and the landscaping outdoors is beautiful. I would definitely come back and spend an afternoon here if I get back to this area. Give it a try!!! read more

Nice place with a visit - especially if you're in a group. I think they draw most of their business from weddings and similar events, plus they sell a lot of wine out of state. I really wish I could give them 3.5 stars, because while I wasn't a big fan of many of the wines, the location was magnificent. Morrisette is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway; you literally can't get there otherwise. The visa is gorgeous, and the owners adroitly took advantage of the location to make the winery into a big event center - complete with a full service restaurant (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). The service was good too; my server washed my glass with wine when changing from reds to whites, which I typically see only at more upscale wineries. This is also one of the biggest wineries in Virgina; 70,000 cases/year (!!!!), although they grow only a tiny portion of their grapes on site (too cold for most varietals). Most are sourced locally, but they also get grapes from out of state (Tennessee is right down the road). They do have 30 acres of Concord and Niagara, which I think they use for the blends. So why the 3 stars? Well...the wines weren't my style. They tended to be easy drinking, but I can't say many stood out. Also, the price point for the several I did like was higher than I would have expected. I did enjoy the 14 Chardonnay Reserve (made in French Oak) but at $41 I couldn't justify a bottle. The Cherry wine was also nice (I'm a sucker for those). But more famous labels like their "Black Dog" tended to be on the sweet side, which isn't my thing. I'd certainly recommend this place if you're a dog lover, or out with a group of novice wine drinkers. I can almost guarantee they'll be impressed. read more

Updating my original review to reflect that the restaurant has been closed since Covid so you will need to bring a picnic if you want to eat here. I hope that it will re-open soon. I last visited in Sept 2022 and they were doing wine tastings a bit differently as well due to a limited supply of wine glasses. They usually have a nice selection of wine-related items and apparel but this time even that was limited. Hopefully all will be resolved soon and this is still one of my favorite stops when I am in the area! read more

It's a beautiful place but the wine is the worst. I cannot understand people drinking it. I was there one time with a friend that knows a lot about wine making, he helps out as a hobby in a winery in Northern Illinois. We ask the people there where their vineyard is located and they said they do not grow their own grapes. They buy grape juice and doctor it. They said at their elevation they cannot grow grapes. They obviously never heard of Germany, Italy and Austria. It's BS. They also add artificial flavoring to their wine. It's literally no better than Boone's Farm or Ripple. It's fake and you can taste it. I have heard that they could not sell a bottle until somebody had the idea of putting a picture of a dog on the bottle. If you think this wine is good you are clueless about how wine should taste. Not every wine should be sweet but that is how they get people that do not know wines to drink this swill. read more

We were doing some hiking and traveling in VA recently, and were looking up wineries that were in our path. After reading that they were dog friendly (we were traveling with the pup) and saw that we might like some of their wines, we decided to check them out. It was packed when we walked in, but we walked right up for a tasting with two other couples. They started off with the dry wines and finished with sweets. Surprisingly, we liked a lot of their wines. We ended up buying four of their wines - which will tell your our favorites. *Sweet Mountain Laurel (white) (my husband preferred the red mountain laurel, but I liked the white better so that is what we went with:)) Both mountain laurel's reminded us of the NC muscadine wines that we are used to drinking. *Cherry Wine - I was a little disappointed in this one, it was good, but I was hoping for it to be a little bit better. I think I just did not like all the spices in it, just give me a fruity cherry wine. My husband loved it though. *Sweet Mountain Apple - this one was my favorite of the day. Did not taste like wine, but it was spot on with the apple taste. *Heritage - their port style wine. It was fabulous, and great value for a port! Disappointments for me: *The cherry wine since I was looking most forward to that one *The blackberry wine - we have had a lot better blackberry wines. *Sangria - this was awful If we are in the area, we will be back. read more

We stopped in to do a winetasting and have a nice glass of wine and enjoy the views, at 4:15 PM , Thursday, October 27. We were excited to be there for our first time. Not being familiar with the set up, we walked in and there were three employees hosting two people each in a winetasting at the bar area. We walked up and stood at the bar, No one acknowledging us. I moved down to one of the other employees and stood at the bar still no one acknowledged us. We were not greeted, Or told that someone would be with us shortly. It was only as we were walking out my pocketbook brushed a couple of the bottles of wine and they fell over not breaking of course, that someone said don't worry about it. I love this place, and I'm honestly not sure why anyone would rate it less than a 5. The folks working here are always SO friendly and helpful. I prefer dry wines which typically are a little harder to come by at southern vineyards but they do not disappoint here! They have something for everyone- including a great cider! I love their Vidal blanc- if you like New Zealabd Sauv Blancs (thanks covid for the shortage) it's a great local substitute. I have a home in Floyd and have visited this winery several times. I have had the worst service of any winery I have ever visited. They do not have crackers or anything to cleanse the palate. One time, I took company to wine taste and they requested crackers. The man doing our tasting shamed them, acting as if they knew nothing about wine. I have been to fine wineries around the globe and they have all offered a palate cleanser. That's kind of beside the point though, there is no excuse for making a guest feel shamed for wanting a palate cleanser. Heck, I was embaressed that I had taken my guest there! Way to go Chateau. I should have made that my last visit but there isn't much to do or show guest. I once took my mom when she was in town and we were the only people there. Despite this, no one could be bothered to help us in a timely fashion and they had no food to offer for purchase with wine that day. This week, I emailed asking about handicap access for an out of state guest. No one even bothered to reply. I wrote on Sunday night, it's now the following Saturday and my guest leaves in the morning. This is a 2nd rate winery with bad wine that serious wine drinkers won't care for anyway. I, nor any of my guest, will be back. It's more for wine cooler drinkers. read more

The wine is good but the best part of it was the view. The venue is just breathtaking. You can sit in a gazebo with a bottle of wine and enjoyed the view forever. The winery: Very big. I don't like how drawn out the process is to just taste or simply buy a bottle but it's okay. The staff members likes things to run smoothly which is a benefit but they can be like traffic directors which can be a little off putting. The tasting it self is fast and informative. I talk more with the people around me than the server because it's like a speech or a lecture. I do love all the out door setting! Plus dogs are welcome. The tour is funny because it's only a few minutes but seeing the back room is cool and learning the history is interesting. The restaurant: The staff was officiant and nice. Again the view is amazing. The space is so cute and it has a out door space for dinning as well. Go during lunch because it's less crowded and less expensive. I do wish my server knew more about wine because when asked what wine would go good with my meal the server reposed "what ever you like".( In a sincere way not a sarcastic) Vegetarian options are limited but the pasta I had was good. The drive to get here is beautiful especially in the fall. The winery is a very nice building, as is the restaurant, both are very impressive. It is fun to take a group of friends up for the day and come here to sample the wine, which costs $10 each, and you basically get a shot of several different wines and 3 different ciders. The cherry and blackberry are my favorites, and they are hard to find in a store other than here. Check out the wine festivals held here as well, they're fun to attend. read more
