When we come to Roanoke several times a year, my husband always loves to stop at Barrel Chest. They…read morehave a great selection of beer and wine. In times past, he has also been able to order ahead and pick up just to be sure he gets the things he wants. We had a full day planned so we dashed in and out this trip but there is plenty of room to grab a pint or a glass of wine and chill for a bit. The ambiance is still of a bottle shop, but bring friends and create your own mood!

The Donuts vs Mermaids was absolutely amazing! They had 20 on tap. Tapped Wine (4/5): I tried a red organic wine (1/5) and a rose (5/5). They had 12 on tap. Beer & Wine to-go options (5/5): They had so many different types of wine, beer, seltzers, and mead to choose from! You can buy single cans, but they are more per than just buying the pack. Process (5/5): This place is pretty neat! You start a tab, you get a card, and you insert the card into slots in order to pour your own beer or wine. You can control how much you want since you only get charged on how much you pour! I love this idea! Seating (4/5): The outside seating was limited. 1 room that was outside and LOUD, 1 room that was connected to the outside room and the inner room surrounded by windows, and then the main inner room with tables and was opened to the beer & wine mart side. Definitely a nice place to check out when you want a bit of everything.

The staff play into it very well. The bartender was super cool. The lady at the front door stayed in character (so cool). Helpful hint ... buffalo nickel. Once in, it is a super dark and cozy classy place. Great selection of wine and cocktails. Small selection of beer. Had the very tasty Chef burger. The Mango Habanero cheese curds were tasty. We ordered the seared ahi tuna, filets, and ravioli. Everything was delicious and fresh. Id recommend if you are quiet hungry and want to order the ravioli to perhaps order something else to pair with it as it only comes with 4 raviolis. Let's talk drinks. They are seasonal so they had an apple smoked old fashioned which was delicious and a whole experience as they bring it in a container with the smoke in it 10/10 recommend! They have a yummy spicy orange margarita and really good non alcoholic drinks that taste like alcoholic drinks! Service was great! Our server had really good suggestions and was attentive and up front with items that where not available.

There was ample seating outside the checkout area; about half the seats and tables were under a covered, very large screened porch, the other half is out in the sun with large umbrellas to provide shade. The vineyard itself is small but the view is pretty and the wine we had was very good. The staff were all helpful and friendly. They have one bathroom available to customers but it was very clean, well-stocked with supplies, and the water was hot with good pressure (which is important for hand cleanliness). This trip was a 5 hour drive from where we live, so if we come back again, it would be for another family reunion. But, if you're local or a short drive away, it's definitely worth checking it out.

Staff was nice enough to let us try the Off Dry Flight in turn. They are dog friendly as long as dog is friendly and leashed.

The beer was good and cold, the pizza was good and hot (and DELICIOUS!), and our server - Destiny R. - was top-notch! Many thanks to everyone at Creek Bottom Brewing! Edited to add: a friend in RVA saw we were riding the New River Trail and said - unprompted! - "I LOVE that brewery in downtown Galax!"

Please do not patronize Creek Bottom Brewing…read more It is not a safe place for women or children. Creek Bottom is at the center of a local controversy involving a young man named William Ayers. In 2023, Ayers was convicted of child rape (carnal knowledge of a child) and abduction. He was released from prison last year, back into our community. Upon his release, Creek Bottom Brewing began employing him to work in the brewery--as a known convicted child sex offender. In February, while working for Creek Bottom, Ayers was arrested AGAIN for ANOTHER sexual assault, strangulation, brandishing a firearm, and abduction by force. It got a little media attention as the "Valentine's Day Rape." Recently added to his list of charges is possession of child porn and sexual abuse of an animal. Where does Creek Bottom come in, beyond offering a job to a known child sex offender? William Ayers' parents are the owners of Creek Bottom. They made the choice to employ him at their brewery, along with their many young women employees and the families who visit the restaurant. Our dollars spent at the brewery unwittingly went directly towards Ayers' paycheck. Many community members feel that Creek Bottom's owners have made horrendous decisions that endanger our community by choosing to have their son employed at the brewery, and by supporting/enabling him in other ways. It is readily apparent that Ayers' parents employ pricey high-powered out-of-town attorneys to defend their son from his charges. (Courtroom interactions between those attorneys and the father of William Ayers reinforce this, with the attorneys pulling Daddy Ayers aside for extended conferencing before making motions.) A couple of days ago, Ayers was offered bail set at $900,000. That means that if his supporters/enablers come up with a $90k bail bond agent fee, or $900k on their own, Ayers will AGAIN be released into our community. All of this is a matter of public record: past convictions, state sex offender registry that showed Ayers working at Creek Bottom until his latest arrest, ownership of Creek Bottom, recent charges, and ongoing court case with private legal defense. All members of our community can and should make their own INFORMED choices here. Sending your money in Creek Bottom's direction could literally help lead to this individual being released into our community once again. Endanger the wealth that is supporting him, and we may be able to make a real difference for community safety. Please don't unwittingly contribute to a William Ayers legal defense fund or to bailing him out to walk among us again. If you see fit, stand by us in this effort.
