Edgar from Airmaxx proposed several different options for the best way to add air conditioning to our home. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. They were not the cheapest bid but I was confident they could deliver the quality job I was looking for. Vitaliy and two other installers arrived the morning of the scheduled installation. We walked the job and discussed my expectations. They got started and shortly thereafter Vitaliy came to me with the first problem. The location of one of the ceiling cassette units would not work because of how the roof was framed and the roof pitch. We discussed alternatives and decided on a new location for the cassette unit. The next problem was how to run the line set to the furthest location taking into account the shallow roof pitch and access. After some discussion we came up with an approach. Vitaliy and the crew along with Edgar were able to run the line set to the furthest location. The installation proceeded smoothly until we discovered that one of the condensation drain lines was not working correctly (thank goodness Vitaliy had the foresight to check it before it became a bigger problem). They got the drain line fixed and completed the installation. Before you question why there were "problems" know that any retrofit has potential issues and it is how the contractor addresses them that determines how good the contractor is. I say this having been a high end custom home builder in another state since 1986. Their workmanship was excellent ( lines and items they installed were plumb, level or sloped, and well secured as appropriate). I would not hesitate to recommend Edgar, Vitaliy, and Airmaxx to family and friends.

It's become a long, hot summer here in North San Diego, so thank goodness we contacted Comfort Bros…read morethis past spring to service our air-conditioning system. Even though our AC unit is relatively new, I believe preventive maintenance is important, and we wanted to make sure everything was operating properly before the hot and humid weather arrived. Their technician was knowledgeable, courteous, professional and very friendly, and we were so pleased with the service that we contacted Comfort Bros again the following month to service our water heater. One seemingly small detail that really impressed me: the technicians put shoe coverings on before walking through our home without my even having to ask. We have black granite floors that show practically every speck of dust and dirt, along with light-colored carpeting, so I really appreciated that level of conscientiousness and respect for our home. Bonus points from me for hygiene and cleanliness! During the second visit, they also performed a whole-house inspection and were proactive about letting us know about things we might want to keep an eye on or consider servicing in the future. I appreciated that approach because I'd much rather know about a potential issue early and possibly prevent a larger, more expensive problem down the road. Both of our experiences with Comfort Bros have been excellent. They've been responsive, highly professional, respectful of our property, and thorough in getting the job done, all at what I felt was a reasonable price. I would not hesitate to call them again or recommend them to others looking for HVAC, plumbing or related home services. Rock ON Comfort Bros!

Recommend you read this before having Comfort Bros do any AC repair work…read more The short story: We were charged over $800 for a $48 part and 1 hour of labor. Don't get burned like we did. Do your RESEARCH and ask questions...ask for OEM part numbers to research actual cost before agreeing to a repair price!! The long story: The technician arrived, checks the AC system and says it's a "module" in the compressor that needs replacing. When I hear "module" I'm thinking "electronic controller in a black box" which in most appliances are generally very expensive. The price we were quoted for installation of the "standard" replacement part was $500.00. The technician said the "standard" parts don't last and a better quality part is available (for over $800 installed and with a 5 year warranty. (In hindsight, I would bet the farm they would have used the same part either way) Our HVAC system is less than 10 years old (previous owner put in a nice Carrier system). So I opt for the warrantied part. As the tech begins the work, I try to do a quick search on compressor "module" replacement to see what shows up. I couldn't find anything on the web...and I had already committed to doing the work anyway. It took the technician less than 10 minutes to replace the part. The failed part was discarded in the trash, so after the tech left I grabbed it and did a P/N search. It was an original Carrier p/n (see images). It's just a dual stage capacitor that gives the boost for the compressor to start up. The replacement Comfort Bros provided was some generic part...not OEM. So who knows what the quality of the part is. Here's the kicker, the OEM price for this capacitor on Carriers website is... $46.xx!!!! I have no problem with a company up charging reasonably for a part, especially if they are warrantying it. I understand companies are in business to make money. However, this was flat out extreme price gouging. I checked going rates for compressor capacitor replacement in San Diego and I found another company (See: Climate Pros) that states $150-$350 for this repair. I called Comfort Bros and asked to speak to the owner and relayed my story. They tried to justify the cost on "payroll, fleet trucks, insurance, gas, blah blah blah". Then they tried to say it was an "Emergency service"...but I specifically asked when I made the appointment and stated it was not an emergency. They knew they had been caught totally overcharging. In their defense they (begrudgingly) refunded us down to a total cost of $500.00. Still significantly higher than other companies going rates. Bottom line, I should have been more careful and asked more questions before agreeing to the work and that's on me. However, in the end, you are relying on the integrity of the technicians and ultimately, the integrity of the company and it's owners. I have to laugh at the "Service that would make Mom proud" slogan they have on their trucks. I wonder if Mom is proud they are gouging their customers.
