For installing central AC and replacing an old gas furnace, I had 3 companies come out for estimates. Robert's was not the lowest though it was clear to me that he had the experience, expertise and straightforward communication style that I wanted to work with. I also liked that I could work directly with a (small) business owner vs a sales employee at a large company. Robert is easy to trust, very responsive, and helpful at every turn. I am very pleased with how everything runs and it's been a smaller impact on my energy bill than expected. Future maintenance is (unfortunately for us) out of scope for his current services but he also provided a recommended tech to work with, so I'm glad to have the referral. Highly recommend working with Robert. read more

My AC broke during the hottest week of the year, and I was desperate for help! Robert and his crew went above and beyond to get a new system installed--even working on Sunday, their only day off. They made sure everything was running perfectly before finishing the job. I'm so grateful for their dedication, care, and willingness to help when I needed it most. I can't recommend Robert and his team highly enough! Ten stars!! read more

Excellent work. Installed a heat pump system back in Dec. 2025. System worked great but something went wrong in Sept. 2026 during a heat wave. Robert was VERY responsive and quick to help fix the issue. He even called me at 9:00pm to help me set up the system so it could work overnight and we didn't have to wait until Monday for someone to come to the house. These guys are awesome. Great work. Thorough. And fair price. read more

The initial quote from Robert was easy to arrange, he was on time and there was no pressure. He thoroughly looked through the rooms and provided alternate installation options from our original ideas that worked better for our needs. During the planning and installation, the communication was great..... easy, fast and efficient. The installers finished ahead of schedule with quality workmanship, and were friendly professional and clean. Robert provided post installation support which was very helpful. read more

San Diego Cool Air - SD Cool went above & beyond! - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Spring valley , California

We worked with San Diego Cool Air last March, and after a full year of use, I can confidently say they are top-tier. Robert was incredibly professional, providing thorough suggestions and even teaching us a few things about our home's efficiency that we didn't know. He was extremely patient while walking me through the quotes and helped demystify the confusing catalog numbers for the various heat pumps. Beyond just the install, the team made genuine improvements to our setup, including a better duct arrangement and adding an extra vent. As parents of a toddler, we were worried about the mess, but the crew left the workspace clean and organized every single day. The project hardly disrupted our daily life. One year later, the system runs perfectly--the house cools down significantly faster than it used to. We will definitely be using them again! read more

Robert and his team not only gave us a very reasonable and fair quote (10k less than some of the other providers) for our full HVAC replacement, but he was kind and friendly the whole time. The quality was off the charts and I couldn't recommend a business more. It's so refreshing to know there are such good humans doing amazing work in the world! To start, I want to say that San Diego Cool Air is one of the best businesses you could ask for. The owner, Robert, is an exceptional individual with immense passion and pride in his work. When we purchased our new home, we found ourselves with a broken and outdated dual-zone HVAC system. After receiving quotes from over eight companies, Robert not only offered one of the most competitive prices but also delivered the highest quality service. Robert took the time to explain everything in a way that was easy to understand and personally inspected our HVAC system (something most companies didn't do). Despite having a busy schedule, he and his team managed to fit us in just a few days after we contracted them. Our home, being a custom build, presented several unforeseen challenges during the installation, but Robert was prompt in communicating any issues and provided effective solutions. For example, the layout in our attic was a mess but Robert knew him and his crew were more than capable to fix it up. He even installed a new light for us! Robert and his crew were very respectful and hardworking, despite the constant high heat during the summer (the attic was 135+ degrees here in Santee). They completed the work in a timely manner, and now we get to enjoy the cool AC for years to come. If you're like us, overwhelmed with estimates and uncertain of whom to trust, give San Diego Cool Air a call. We guarantee this is the team you'll end up going with. Unlike other companies that might prioritize a quick sale and high prices, Robert's commitment to detail and honesty is a breath of fresh air. TL;DR: Robert and his team at San Diego Cool Air are outstanding, delivering top-tier work at excellent prices. read more

We received 5 different quotes to put in our new heat pumps and SD Cool Air won our business. They provided great value, reliable tech, fast installation and kind customer service. Robert is easy to work with and made the process simple. I asked questions about dual fuel systems and he was attentive and provided both quotes for me to compare. It's the small things that make a difference. Some contractors obscure information to get you to spend more - not SD cool air. Their crew was positive and always friendly when I stopped by. Our AC is running like a champ! My partner is now my number one fan as we won't die in the heat this summer. Also, the install looks great! read more

Recently my wife and I determined we needed a new heating and air conditioning system. We began our search online for a supplier. While there were many alternatives one company stood out due to several positive reviews from highly satisfied customers. That company was San Diego Cool Air owned by Robert Mays. It was readily apparent why there was such fanfare. My initial inquiry was answered promptly, and Robert was both courteous and knowledgeable. He took the time to understand our needs and concerns and conducted a thorough assessment of our existing system. He provided his recommendations in a clear, detailed manner. His experience and expertise were evident. When he submitted his proposal he answered all of our questions in a timely and clear manner. His prices were very competitive and more than fair. There was never any pressure or conflict. The installation process itself was seamless and efficient. The team arrived on the scheduled date and worked diligently to complete the job within the promised timeframe. They were respectful of my home, taking care to minimize disruption and clean up thoroughly once the installation was completed. The attention to detail and quality of workmanship were exceptional, and I was left with a sense of confidence in the reliability and longevity of my new HVAC system. read more

Old HVAC system wasn't turning on and needed a check up during the heat wave. Called Robert and he helped set me up with his technician Jesus for a maintenance checkup. He was fast, honest, and professional. Very friendly small business. Very happy with the service. read more

Robert and his team at SD Cool Air are fantastic! We hired them to replace our gas-fired furnace with a new all-electric heat pump system, and they knocked it out of the park. Really couldn't be happier with the outcome! I solicited quotes from 8 different HVAC contractors. Some companies sent sales reps with limited technical know-how. Some companies had slick marketing materials and a high price tag. When Robert (owner of SD Cool Air) came to our home, I immediately could tell that he was a no-nonsense guy who I could trust. He deftly answered all of my questions, made great recommendations, and soon provided us with a thorough proposal that we felt great about! Once we signed, his team quickly got to work. A few weeks later we had a quiet, efficient, central heat pump system - right in time for summer! Robert and his team were great to work with throughout the process. They were knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and respectful. I can't recommend SD Cool Air enough! read more

Phenomenal customer service and execution. Could not ask for a better HVAC experience than what Rob and his team provide.

We needed to replace our AC and our friends recommended us SD Cool Air. We talked to the owner Robert who walked us through the process and basically the next day the company's installers Dima and Justin came to make the estimate. The day of the installation Dima and Justin were on time, did everything quickly, professionally, and left the place neat. From start to end, the entire process took just a couple of days, we didn't even have time to suffer from the heat. And they gave us a very good price! read more

We shopped around to replace our gas furnace with a heat pump and ended up getting half a dozen quotes from various contractors. We decided on San Diego Cool Air and couldn't be happier with their work. Robert, the business owner, first came by to provide us with a quote. We started discussing various options that would suit our need. I appreciated that Robert took the time to answer all my questions, provided valuable insights and gave honest advice about what system was appropriate for our house. I talked to multiple contractors, but Robert stood out. It was easy talking to him and I felt the project was in good hands. Also, San Diego Cool Air was the only company that did a load calculation to properly size the heat pump to our square footage and heating/cooling needs. The quote was competitive and based on the above we decided to move forward with San Diego Cool Air to install a new heat pump. Later, Robert came back with his lead install guy, to make sure we were all set on the details before starting the project The whole install took 4 days which included relocating the heat pump into the attic and installing new ducts. The team was very professional and easy to communicate with. I checked in with them here and there and got some status updates about the progress, which I appreciated. The whole team had a great attitude and did an outstanding job. Lots of attention to detail. I was impressed of how nice and clean the whole install and ductwork came out in the attic. The city inspector said 'it is a work of art'. I think that sums it up very nicely. We haven't been able to use the new heat pump much yet since the weather has been moderate the past few weeks. However, the system performed well in the few test runs we did. One small issue we noticed was that one of the vents was blasting air and it literally sounded like a tornado coming through our house. I called up Robert and he stopped by a day later to fix the issue. Turns out it, the new system just needed a minor adjustment, which is typical as I learned. We would highly recommend San Diego Cool Air! read more

This is my favorite company for HVAC. I tried them vs 2 other companies to have my AC moved and Freon rerouted for a laundry room addition. They were $1000 less than the company who installed my unit. I have also used them for issues with my furnace and Robert came out right away to fix it for less than my home warranty wanted for a service call. I highly recommend this company as they are competitively priced, Robert and Justin are great guys to work with, and their work was outstanding. If I get a new unit in the future they will be the first I call. Thank you again for helping me so quickly. read more

My rental unit AC failed and San Diego Cool Air was referred by a plumber that I trust. Robert has done a great job to size the heat pump unit and communicate. The price is very reasonable. As soon as it was approved by HOA, Robert managed to have his team install the system quickly and nicely. The installation time is less than 2 days. If you see this review, go with this company for your HVAC install! San Diego Cool Air just finished installing my new HVAC system- they replaced my 37 year old gas furnace heaters and AC's into two new heat pumps and air handlers. The quality in air difference is SHOCKINGLY immediate. I used to have dust all over my house whenever I turned on my old HVAC system- I found out from San Diego Cool Air it was fiberglass dust!! After this new HVAC install, I can breathe very easily now in my house and the air flow is so strong that the old metal register grill covers are rattling from the strong air flow which the owner Robert will replace as it wasn't part of my original contract (unlike my in-laws new HVAC system that has no air flow coming out of their air registers). That's how I know its a quality job- there is no leakage of air because of quality plenums, so that's why the air flow is so good and strong. I am confident our lives will be much healthier as a result of this new HVAC system. HVAC changeout is not cheap, but I took the leap of faith to get the work done because I want cleaner, healthier air for our upcoming family since my husband and I plan to start trying soon to have a baby. If you are thinking to start a family, I think it makes sense to do an HVAC changeout before life gets hectic, or before selling a house or even soon after moving into a new one. Since COVID, my whole life has been trying to be cleaner and the air we breathe is so so important to our health and future family. San Diego Cool Air- specifically the owner Robert and his two installers Deema and Justin, were much much better than I anticipated. It's extremely difficult to find contractors that can be trusted, especially in HVAC from our own personal experiences with other HVAC companies, but Robert and his team did a very good job. I thought the house would have holes in the walls but there are no holes and no dry wall repair needed. I feel we got really lucky to get referred to San Diego Cool Air who was a referral to us from a California program designed to be environmentally friendly and health conscious. Pros: Owner: Robert is extremely responsive, proactive and his channels of communication were always quick, friendly and open. He was honest and did not try to price gouge us like other HVAC companies. He was not sales-y either or try to push products on us that we did not need. The whole process felt like working with a friend who wanted to truly help you. I appreciate that. I also found him to be brimming with energy, passionate and a perfectionist. I asked him how he gets his energy and he said he takes cold plunges into the ocean at 6AM EVERYDAY! WOAH WIM HOF method! I thought I was a perfectionist, but he is more of a perfectionist and on top of his game then anyone I've ever met. And I am a New Yorker living in Manhattan NYC originally!!! He also came every day of the install and spoke to me every day of the whole process from before signing to install, and said he would even follow up with me in a few months to make sure all is okay. When he had time, he worked side by side with his installers and even helped lift the outdoor units 250+ pound heat pump condensers, which took me by surprise. I feel he really went above and beyond and especially to try to submit my rebate application for a program whose funds are nearly dried up. With him as the owner and in charge, I am confident San Diego Cool Air will be around for decades to come, which is a plus for me as I have a labor warranty for their installation. He helped get my air ducts floating in the attic meaning they don't touch the ground as much which is better for the air ducts to prevent them from getting damaged. He was flexible for a last minute change to my husband's office. Installers: His installers Deema and Justin were very courteous and hard working and respectful. They wore clean booties and there are no stains on my light carpet. Their work came out very good. I tried to keep out of their way and let them do their thing, which I what I learned is the best approach for all workers that come to our house. Let the workers do their thing, don't hover or bother them with questions, feed them some snacks or drinks, and they will treat you back well too! read more

SD Cool has changed my air quality for the life of my La Mesa house. I'm set! My system was overhauled from the home original unit that was 32 years old. Come to find out the system was not sized correctly (4-ton condenser matched with a 5-ton blower), ducts where not connected and I was bleeding good air into my attic. When my system was on, it was a hell of a racket. I bought my house last year and they did a poor job on the flip. My system performance is simply stellar now! Robert and his crew designed, replaced (all ductwork) and balanced my system. The job was quoted for 4 days and they were done on time. Between each day, the crew left my home in a clean state. As progress commenced, I received video updates while I was at work from Robert. The guy was even working 2 days after major surgery! Now I'm running a variable speed 5-ton which now matches my blower's specs. All new high end insulated ducts with custom plenums and dampers for adjustments. Make sure you check out the pics for the clean work they did! Note the AC Pro unit they installed takes up so much less space. They even connected my oven hood that was not fastened to anything. In addition to the new HVAC system I put in a whole house fan to take advantage of the cool SD county breezes. I'm simply amazed. My quality of life is upgraded! I sleep so much better now! Almost forgot to mention... amongst three different quotes SD Cool came in right in the middle but provided so much more value due to the upgraded components, service and follow through. For example, the comparable quotes were for a single stage units and this system was built with variable at the same price. Major performance enchantment. Do. Not. Hesitate... to give Robert Mays a call! read more

I was in the market to replace my entire HVAC system in my older 1920's home. Because I was in no rush to move forward with this project, I took the time to request quotes from six different companies. My career is in the architecture/construction field - so I know not all HVAC installations and companies are the same. HVAC is a very skilled trade that requires attention to detail. I chose SD Cool Air for a number of reasons: 1) Robert was by far the most easy to work with, knowledgeable, responsive rep we had out. 2) Price - SD Cool Air beat all of our other quotes by a large percentage 3) Robert brought out his lead installer (Justin) who did a walk through before we signed any papers - Justin knew his stuff which comforted me in letting them work on my home. Highly recommend SD Cool Air - You won't be disappointed. read more

I would give 10 stars if I could. We had 5 vendors to choose from and he wasn't the cheapest but also not the most expensive. With so many options presented by all the companies, it was a bit overwhelming. Robert is concise, thorough and extremely knowledgeable. We had a HVAC from 1984 that was inefficient and costly. He came in our 2 story home, evaluated all our vents, listened to our concerns and provided us with 2 options. He brought his team in and they were no nonsense. It was abundantly apparent that Robert hand selected and trained/mentored his staff. Installation took 5 days, they replaced all our vents, moved the system from the bottom floor to the attic. They cleaned up after themselves and were meticulous. And not to mention they went out of the way to move our old system even when we had not yet decided to select them. I would not hesitate to go with Robert and his crew. I just wish I could find a contractor as straight forward, no nonsense and honors his words as Robert does. I have no doubt his business will thrive and grow! read more

Needless to say they offered a few options that fit best with how they use the system, gave them material for research and did not pressure them into having to make a decision. My parents felt comfortable with the decision to use them and called the following week to schedule the project. I love my home in Point Loma but the design of the home is very difficult for heating and air conditioning. I had 3 companies come out prior to Robert. I was scratching my head thinking there must be some other options. I just did not get the confidence and peace of mind until I met Robert with SDCA. He was referred to me from my interior designer. Really happy with my experience having Robert and his team install a mini split in my master bedroom. I had several companies come out to give me quotes. San Diego Cool Air was among the most affordable companies, and I also had confidence they would do a solid job. Not surprisingly all the companies were quoting an entry level unit. I asked Robert about other models with a few of the features I was most interested in and he was able to provide a competitive quote for a more upscale unit - Daikin LV series. The install was stress-free. Justin and Dima did a great job of communicating what they were doing. They took their time and did everything right. Everything looks top notch with clean lines and buttoned-up fittings. At one point Robert stopped by, and I learned the outdoor unit came with a few dents from the supplier and Robert was returning it over lunch for a new unit. Great service. Overall very happy with the experience. Robert is great at communicating and Justin and Dima did a great job on the install. read more

You don't need to look any further, Robert and Justin and Deema are your team. Don't believe me, look at how many stars all reviewers have given them. There is nothing you can throw at them which they can't do and they have every tool to do it with. Beyond that, they have the knowledge. They will accommodate you with time, consideration for your property, politeness and courtesy. They are consummate professionals and this is evident in their work. You may not understand all that goes into what they do but you can look at the completed work and see the evidence. Justin always reminded me "that's what we do". How much did I enjoy these guys? I asked Robert if they could visit me once a week just to enjoy their up lifting spirit. Of course he could not accommodate that. And they will go beyond their quoted price. They even helped me move my furniture back in place before they cleaned up and left (yes they clean up before they leave). If something is not perfect (especially Deema) they are not happy.
