Walked in with a 3 year old needing to use the restroom. The woman there( have never seen this woman before there) said restroom was for custermers only. Then started explaining that the woman behind me was a customer and if I was with her I could use restroom. I walked away and my 3 year old girl had to squat on side of the road. If you're traveling 126 between Eugene & Florence, you don't have many dining options. The Halfway Cafe is quite small, and I imagine more popular during the summer season. On a weekday afternoon we had no problem getting a seat, however. My husband and I both got soup and salads-and the salads are enormous! You could easily share and pay the split plate fee and leave full. I didn't try their desserts, but they did look very good. Will return to try other menu items! read more

We take this road to the coast regularly and have commented every time we pass Halfway that we should try it. So we did! It was around 2 on a cold, rainy Saturday and we were the only people there. It is a restaurant/quick stop market in one and has roughly 6 interior booths for dining in (not including the nice covered outdoor area). It has a great homestyle feel, everything is worn and local. We ordered a cheeseburger and the southwestern cheeseburger. You can hear your food being made on the other side of the dividing wall. So we definitely knew our food wasn't sitting around, it was very fresh and hot. I sub'd my regular fries for tots but please know I don't think tots are a regular menu item. The server made sure to check with the kitchen when I ordered that they had them, as they were listed as a substitute side for one of the specials on the blackboard menus. The burgers were good, classic and well done. The SW one has jalapenos, grilled onions and the menu says green chiles but seemed more like a slice of grilled green pepper. I think the grilled pepper somewhat downplays the rest of the burger, I could have done without it upon reflection. I think it would have helped the flavor. But the fries/tots were cooked just right and the service was nice and quick. Probably helped we were the only people there but still. Additional note - the restroom is for paying customers only, though you can pay a fee to use it. It is accessed on the outside of the building by key and it is not heated/part of the central building so is quite cold! But was well maintained and clean. read more

We were on our way to KindTree Camp (Autism Rocks) at Camp Baker, near Florence. Needed to stop and saw this cafe and decided to see if it was open. On our way to camp we just got drinks and snacks. Very friendly, professional staff. On our way home we decided to stop again and have a bite to eat. (Didn't realize it was almost closing time, but they never mentioned that.) The first words out of Bobby Jo's mouth was, "How was camp?" I am certain they see quite a few people, but she remembered us. THAT's special! Then we ordered hamburgers. Oh, my gosh...that was THE BEST HAMBURGER I have ever eaten! Fresh bun, ripe tomato, hand formed burger cooked JUST RIGHT! Served with a Smile by Bobby Jo. If I didn't live in Nevada I'd go back right now. This cute cafe is a hidden gold mine! If you are close by...drive directly to the Half-Way Cafe and have one of their hamburgers. We had an unforgettable experience here. My partner and I were on a bus tour from Eugene to Heceta but we had to get off the bus half of the way because my partner got really bad car sick. We were dropped off at the Halfway Cafe. We ordered some food and drinks there while waiting for a cab or Uber driver to pick us up and drive us back to Eugene. However, It was almost the cafe's closing time and no drivers were available nearby. While we were seriously worried about what we should do, the owner of the cafe, Buddy, and his wife, Bobbi Jo, very kindly offered us a drive to a nearby town where many Uber drivers were available. We were very grateful for their help and we will not forget about their kindness. By the way, the food there is amazing! We really enjoyed the fries and the salad we ordered. read more

Wow, what happened here? The food was great before when the guys owned it, but horrid now. Had Biscuits & Gravy - the biscuits were packaged type and very little sausage in the gravy. Hubby had ham & eggs, the ham was so tough he barely was able to chew it, hash browns were burned on the bottom and the eggs??? Definitely not fresh eggs, liquid eggs maybe? Bathroom was filthy and obviously not cleaned in a LONG time. Took the dog to go potty and the whole area stunk and covered with dog poo. read more

Terrible food. Waitresses with an attitude and often drunk. Waitresses that sat down at my food and drooled on themselves drunk rambling on. Refuse to leave my table when I was just trying to joy the food they brought me. We drove in from Florence to the Halfway Cafe, located right next to the Walton store midway between Florence and Eugene on Hwy. 126. The restaurant was recently re-opened by owners who have created a down home style vibe with food to match. We went for breakfast. I had a wonderful housemade corned beef hash with two eggs and hash browns. My friends ordered French toast and a half order of biscuits and gravy, also made in house. Everything was tasty. Big portions. I took half of mine home. I am looking forward to returning to try lunch and dinner offerings, including the prime rib dinner special on Friday nights!! read more

My husband & I love this place. The service is always great and the food is wonderful. If you like homemade chili, this is the place. I've heard all their in- house soups are wonderful (particularly their clam chowder, although I'm allergic to seafood and can't eat it myself). Friday night prime rib dinners are $18 and come with a (choice of ) potato and include sauted vegetables, a large salad and dessert. Recently, well within about 6 or so months, opened Restuarant. Love their coffee. I always get what the call, A Cowboy. It's basically their version of an Americano. Breakfast is from 8-11AM. They have a very popular prime rib on Fridays. Only 5 booths and I've seen them turn people away since it's so popular. Prices are very reasonable. Today, I had a good Chicago Dog with Cesar Salad. Service is exceptional. Great midpoint break place between Eugene and the Coast. A bonus, LPG canisters are .40 cents cheaper per gal too. read more

We just returned home from another great meal at the halfway cafe. We have been several times, but today was our best visit yet! There's something about having good food, good service, while sitting outside in the sunshine. Today we had the sandwich special (roast beef, green chili, cheese, on toasted bread, wirh fries) and the country fried steak breakfast, and an amazing burger (the southwestern?) Great cafe' on the way to the coast. I travel 126 quite a bit for work and to get to our place on the coast. It's a good old-school place to grab a burger, and that kind of cuisine. We flew up to Eugene last week and stopped here enroute to our destination of Florence. The lunch special that day was a pasta dish with multiple types of peppers and Italian sausage. This plate was absolutely delicious. All of the ingredients were quite fresh and tasty. The pomodoro sauce was the perfect consistency for this dish, and was made with fresh tomatoes, not canned sauce like many restaurants do. My wife had a turkey sandwich that she loved. We stopped here again on our way back to the Eugene airport and shared a triple meat sandwich. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! Wish I had more room in my belly so that I could eat another one. We come through every year for the Oregon Country Fair and saw this place empty for a long time. This year, we were surprised to see it open with a cute outside dining/lounge area. I stopped in to check out the place and saw a quaint cafe, with a full espresso set up and a few booths. We decided to get dinner and left full, happy and satisfied. I had a loaded baked potato with a cup of chili and my father had the special, which was meatloaf with mashed potatoes, veggies and gravy. FIRST: everything was DELICIOUS. The skin on my potato was crisp and it was actual bakers potato. My fathers meatloaf was slathered in gravy (which we agree is the RIGHT way to eat gravy on anything). We have eaten here previously and really enjoyed the prime rib special and so we chose to take a friend here for a thank you prime rib dinner. The salad was nice and we were provided with a plate of condiments. That is where the experience went bad. The prime rib was greasy, tough and about 1/4" thick. Honestly we are not certain it was prime rib as it more closely resembled an old minute steak. We spoke to the server who begrudgingly took two of the three back. (My husband was so hungry he was willing to eat his shoe). When the server came back with the new "prime rib" mine looked much like the first one. It was still greasy and very thin. Our guest however received a piece that was actually prime rib. When I asked why the amount on the bill was incorrect I was told that they were charging us $2 for replacing the prime rib, Seriously! First we are served lousy food and then they expected us to pay extra! Not to mention being embarrassed that our guest also had an unpleasant experience. The cook apologized but the attitude of the server continued to be bad. We aren't sure which was worst - the attitude or the "prime rib". No wonder the parking lot was almost empty. We cannot speak to the quality of the other items served on the menu. read more
