don't let it's remote location fool you. i followed my barber here. 18/8 was a good experience, but this place definitely makes a guy feel right at home. if barbershops were women, 18/8 would be the pretty wine-drinking blond with expensive taste and Halftime Cuts would be the cute down-to-earth brunette that can chug a Guinness and watch sports with you. oh and they can both cut hair. don't get me wrong, i like the attractive receptionists and stylists at 18/8, but sometimes a guy just wants the best haircut he can get at a place he can relax his gut and BS about sports, women, being a guy. do it. read more

I have been here twice, once for a shave and another time for a haircut. Jason has helped me both times and I have been satisfied both times. I just had my second haircut with the owner of Halftime, Garo, and I've been very pleased with the haircut and everything surrounding this place. Here's a breakdown of why I think this place is awesome: 1) the haircut - I have long hair, and I haven't had much luck in finding someone who knows how to cut it well. Garo knows what he's doing, especially since he had long hair himself for like a decade. Definitely worth it. 2) the people - As I understand, there are only 3 people working here. Aside from all being super friendly, they are really interested in giving you a damn good haircut. Before touching your hair, they'll spend a few minutes talking with you about what you want to do, how you usually keep your hair, whether you put any product in, etc. to make sure you get exactly what you want. I really appreciate the service and the attention to detail that they give. 3) the place - Sports are in this place's blood, through and through. Sports memorabilia covers almost every wall and ESPN plays on every TV. If you're into ranting about sports this is hands down the place for you. But I'm not a big sports guy, and was expecting to feel a little shunned the first time I came in. But no problem, everyone is laid back and welcoming, which I guess is a throwback to the people. I generally go to salons because I trust their quality, but what I hate most is that they're salons: so many are stereotypically arrogant, stereotypically douchey. What I love about Haltime Cuts is that it's the same high quality cut, the same stylist knowledge without any of the arrogance. This place is great. Very clean and modern barber shop with friendly people who greet you and make sure you feel well attended to. Thank God for Robert. He is a hair cutting angel, and I'm so glad I found him. My hair is curly and really hard to cut. So many people have had a hard time cutting my hair, and I've had my fair share of bad hair cuts in my life. Naturally my guard was up the first time I came here. But Robert was patient and really seemed to know his sh*t. He analyzed my hair and went over with me what I was going for. Dude took his time and it came out just the way I like. This place really deserves 5 stars, but I had to go with 4 only because of the price. $35 for a barber shop hair cut? Definitely the most I've ever paid before. I know I am the first one to give this place a 4, but lets be real.... a 4 is a very good rating! Garo is a really cool guy with pretty good haircutting talent. Everyone that works here including his other stylists like Lucco are friendly, and cool, genuine guys. For the most part they give awesome haircuts. The only reason I gave a 4 and not a 5 is because my hair would not wuite come out 100% perfect every time. Now I'm not trying to be specific and picky.... but occasionally I would get a great cut, but the next time I would come in, it would come out a little different. I'd say overall my haircuts had a 80-90% satisfaction which is pretty good, but on some of the days I got the 80%..... it was noticeablly different. The place is a very laid back sports themed place for guys. Very cool, chill and relaxed. Garo does get extremely busy and backed up so alot of times your haircut is not exactly on schedule, but its okay and understandeable. Great people working here... great atmosphere... I only gave a 4 instead of 5 because out of the 15 or 20 times I've gotten a haircut from him... only once or twice was it "perfect"..... all the other times there was definetly something a didn't like about my hair. I will say however, that I am asian and asian hair is usually harder to cut and style because of how straight and wirey our hair is, so I don't blame Garo at all. read more

If you haven't been there you should check it out : ) I wanted a good haircut after a couple of hack jobs I had at places like Great Clips and such. I was seen immediately and had a great convo about job hunting with the stylist. Since it was my first time there he gave me a free hairwash/head massage, which felt amazing. He even recommended a great and inexpensive condition based on my hair type and used it in the washing. After that he gave me a great haircut and was very friendly. I was used to going to the Floyd's in Burbank but the guy that cut my hair moved out of town. I wish I had found out about Halftime cuts earlier because I could have saved myself many trips to Burbank (not that its that far). I had a good experience at Floyd's but I was looking for something closer and was dreading the gamble of finding a stylist that understood me. I read most of he Yelp reviews and I must admit they accurately portray the experience at Halftime. I was looking for something a step above a Barbershop and not as pricy or stuffy as a salon. I recommend making an appointment 2 days ahead of time even though I got very luck as walk in because of a cancellation. I didn't have my hair cut by the owner but by the other guy, Jason. He was very cool and thorough. I am an artist and can appreciate when someone takes pride in their craft. It is just the two of them working there and based on most reviews they are both great. I got the sense that they take their time and really try to get you the cut that you want. It's only a few hours afterward but I am pleased. They also give you a discount for the first cut. I'll be returning here next time I need a cut. read more

Highly recommend HTC. Here's my history: I live in Monterey Park where hair cuts come as cheap as $8 - $10. I used to get my cuts at a popular place on Valley and Fremont for about $15 with tip. However, I got fed up with the hours of waiting, long lines and people cutting ahead of me all the time. HTC had some great reviews, but it was tough to pay twice as much as I was used to paying. Went in the first time and have had no regrets. Called in and got an appoinment withBefore every cut, Garo makes sure to go over exactly what you want. During your cut, you conversation generally revolves around sports and women. At the end, makes sure the cut is just right and provides the right product to maintain the style. In summary, I drive a lot further and pay a lot more, but have no qualms doing so. read more

After my tried and true stylist moved out of LA I went on a search for a new place - with no success. I read all the great reviews about this place but was a little hesitant due to the dude-friendly angle that seemed to emanate. Hey, I just want a haircut, I don't need any gimmicks, right? But I was driving past and said what the hell... Fan-frickin-tastic!! There's a couple of flat screens that are playing whatever game is on, great to watch while you wait. But this is not the overtly sports themed place I feared. Once you're called up it's %100 about your hair. I have never been so well attended; and by someone who so honestly cares about getting it right. Had what can only be described as a consultation session with Garo before a wash and cut. Went over what I wanted, what he recommended, what my options were - and learned a crap load more about my hair and head shape than I thought possible. And this all happened in a comfortable, non-obsessed or overly-intese way. The guy really cares about doing whats best. And the cut was perfect - great balance of cutting/conversation, just the right amount of time spent in the chair to tweak every little thing without taking an eternity to do so (a friendly receptionist up front).
