I am a bit disappointed with my experience with Carl today. My appointment was at 12:40, but he was still finishing with his previous client until around 12:53. Honestly, I don't mind waiting because I could see he was being very detailed and careful with that client's hair. However, my experience felt very different. When he asked what I wanted, I explained that I wanted a mullet style -- keeping the back long, cleaning up the sides, and trimming just a little on top. Unfortunately, he ended up cutting the back shorter than I wanted, and it seemed like there may have been some misunderstanding about the style. I didn't say much at that point because the hair had already been cut. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also mentioned that the left side looked uneven or a little too short to me, but he responded that there was "too much hair."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've honestly never had a hairstylist say that before, and I personally didn't feel like my hair was overly thick on the sides. Another client arrived during my appointment, and after that, the haircut started to feel rushed. My hair wasn't washed afterward, and the styling product was applied a bit messily. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What upset me most wasn't even the haircut itself -- hair grows back -- but more the feeling of being rushed compared to the attention given to the previous client.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been to B SIDE U twice before with JJ, and I've always had a great experience with him. He was thorough, never rushed, and always made sure everything was done properly, including washing my hair after the cut. Checked out this place per a friend's recommendation. I'm known to have thick / bird nest-like hair which the hair does not grow "long" but rather "thick and big" like a tumbleweed. My stylist was named Tiffany. She took her time with my hair to the very detail from starts to finish. She used various scissors / razors just to clean up and fade the sides while thinning the top. I wasn't sure if she was still learning her crafts but her demands for details and perfection made me felt like a VIP. When I shown up my new hair style my wife almost couldn't recognize new saying I've gone looking like a homeless to a good looking professor. I'm extremely satisfied and I'd recommend Tiffany to anyone who's looking for a hairdo makeover. A+++ read more

I was so impressed. While the shop is small, it is so clean and so bright. I had a problem. A big problem. I had an event where I needed hobbit-esque hair, but I had short, straight, thick hair. Emphasis on short. Like, 1.5 inches short. Every salon I got a consultation with, said a perm couldn't be done with hair that short and told me to come back when it's longer - but I didn't have time to wait for it to grow out! Well, Joanna stepped up and took on the impossible challenge and... she is a sorceress! She worked nothing short of magic on my hair. Attention to detail and perseverance that exceeded my expectations. I truly can't express how skilled and patient she is! If you've got hair as short as mine was, I absolutely do not recommend you get it permed UNLESS you are willing to tip over 100% because it is extremely finicky and difficult to do and I felt so bad for doing this to the poor stylist. This was my first time visiting the San Gabriel location, but I have been a regular with Jacob at B Side U in Pasadena for about 2-3 years and always leave feeling confident with my haircuts. It's incredible to see B Side U grow, especially when the service and quality provided is the best in the LA area. Since moving to LA 10 years ago, I've had a lot of bad luck with trying to find a new hair stylist or barber. Jacob is the first hair stylist who consistently cuts my hair exactly how I hope it will look, and who considers different cutting techniques that will make styling easy and keep a good shape even after several weeks of my hair growing out. I usually bring a picture to my haircuts, knowing that my specific hair type and face shape will not always be a 100% recreation of the picture. Still, Jacob takes the time to talk through how I would like my hair to be cut and knows how to utilize different cut and style techniques to make my hair type match the picture as close as possible.
