This was the worst experience I have ever had at Half Shell. Appetizers cold, they take them back and bring the entree and the sides are cold. We end up eating part of the entree while waiting on the appetizers. So the manager decides to have a set at our table to find out what happen, we explain and then he brings us a gift certificate. I dine here at least twice a month. Last night 12/18-25 was the worse visit I've had. I ordered a kids ch strip meal and was told that they were now served as nuggets I said okay we would try it out. Ordered our meals about five minutes later they brought out the sides which included 2 salads and a red beans and rice. About 20 minutes later they brought out the food my wife o a steak which was warm I ordered the red which were ice cold but hey I figured that was fine because I can eat them that way but tried them and they were way over cooked they tasted and felt like paste ! My daughters nuggets and fries were ice cold so our server said that she would replace them we said ok she bought out the second order and it was 1 big piece of chicken and stated that they had cooked it! By that time I just said okay and bring me the check I guess she saw my wife and daughter frustraction and came back and said that they had taken the k meal off of the ticket!She was the only thing enjoyable about the restaurant read more

Although we were a larger group, we were seated promptly. The Redfish Orleans was well cooked but a bit too salty and greasy for my taste. I did like the turnip greens. The voodoo sauce on the appetizer had great flavor and the quesadillas were pretty good. Overall the experience wasn't negative but service nor the food was anything special. read more

Oysters Orleans, oysters were tough and apparently because the staff can't take care of the silverware, no little fork to help loosten the oysters from the shell. made yhem very tough to get out of the shell. they were not loostened at all before cooking. Redfish Orleans just flat out had too much seasoning. it looked like maybe the seasoning container spilled open onto the fish because it was just a huge clump that they tried to spread out over the fish. made it ridiculously salty. cesar salad tasted like the romaine had wilted and needed to be thrown out, they servedbit anyway. There are staples for us at Half Shell. very disappointed in the kitchen and that their managers are allowing this. it's not like they have fast food prices. $100.00 for a very mediocre meal, at best. The Flowood location has always been hit or miss but never had an issue with virtually the entire meal. it's usually just one food or service. This time all the food was poor. We order takeout, the food was there ready to go when we got there. However, the staff did not know it was there, so we sat there for a while and had to ask about our food. They found it, it was cold as it had been setting there the whole time. Not good for an expensive restaurant. No one's wants cold seafood. We will take our $$$ somewhere else next time. read more

So we were trying to go to Long Horn, they told us it was going to be a 40-50 minute wait. After a hour we checked and they said it could be another hour so we decided to walk over to this spot. The wait was 30-40 minutes so I told my husband we'll sit in their air and decide what we wanted to do when our time was up. Because he was so hungry we decided to give them a try. WRONG MOVE! I should've left once I smelled the water as I took my first sip, it smelled like a sewer. If you read my reviews you would know I've had a prior bad experience with another bad spot and the water here in Jackson. Since I haven't had that happen since I forgot about it and didn't think to leave when it happened this time. I asked about suggestions and went with the Red Fish as my entree. I also ordered the sample platter of oysters. They were to come before my entree but they didn't so I told him to cancel them. On to the entree, it was an overcooked pan fried fish that tasted like a bunch of butter and a little old bay. NOT GOOD AT ALL! There was 3 rubbery shrimp and minced crab meat on top. The sweet potato casserole was also a fail, there was chunks of caramelized brown sugar ontop of a mushy sweet potato. I sooo wanted to like this spot because I drive past it regularly and wonder about the oysters. But after that experience it's a HARD NO for me! The hubs was sooo disappointed with his steak, he said he wished we had waited for Long Horn. Sadly, it seems to be the only decent spot in the area to eat. We Chicagoans are hard to please when it comes to good food. On top of that, the server came to the table with the gadget and told us our total. I knew it was BS. I asked for a printout, he was like "oh you want a receipt?" Umm yeah and sure enough the oysters were a part of the total charge. He said "oh I thought THEY took them off." The best restaurant in Jackson, MS. The food, environment and staff are exemplary. Melissa Vowell is the BEST bartender in MS. She literally is flying around the bar serving patrons as well as the wait staff without ever missing a beat. She is very friendly, observant, brilliant bartender that has outstanding customer service skills, and a positive attitude. I have yet to see someone sit at the bar and not be treated like family, nor order food because Melissa is the ultimate sales person with her friendly personally and expertise of every item on the menu. Last night, she suggested Mario Char-broiled oysters. They are Killer- you can't get just one. The guys shucking the Oysters are true craftsmen and a joy to watch- and very friendly. Just the aroma of the Char-Broiled Oysters will wet your appetite as they the fire flares up on the open range behind the bar. I've never found another restaurant that has nice, succulent, Heavenly, perfect sized Oysters. The Hostesses were Outstanding, Friendly and Helpful. Over the years, I've really enjoyed this Half Shell location. However, today, things were very different. I visited the location and had a 20-30 minute wait to be seated. I expected there to be a long wait, given that it was a Saturday afternoon. However, once I was seated, it took another 30-45 minutes for me to get my food. The service was extremely too slow. I would've been more tolerant of the slow service had the food been good, but the food was not the "Half Shell" quality that I am accustomed to. I ordered half dozen Oysters Bienville, and the shrimp in them were very overcooked. I also ordered the fried green tomatoes and crab cakes, and my green tomatoes were actually red. My guest ordered the almond encrusted chicken with a side salad and sweet potato creme brûlée. The almond encrusted chicken had been left under the heat lamp too long and was very chewy. The side salad was room temperature, and the plate was not cold or even chilled, which suggests that the salad had been sitting out for a while. Interestingly, although service was very slow my entire visit, the waitress brought the check 1 minute after I asked for it. Needless to say, I won't return to the Flowood location for a while. I haven't been to Half Shell at this location in over a year. I had a gift card so I decided to give it a try. Since it was before 5pm, I was seated immediately. The hostess was working on a chart when I walked in so I had to speak to her first. Then she seemed to catch an attitude when she had to stop what she was doing to find where to seat me. However, she was nice as she walked me to my table. My server, Hailey, popped up quickly and took my drink and appetizer order. Her service was very good. Didn't hover but always walked by the area door to see if I needed a drink refill or to see if I had some dishes to clear. I ordered half dozen oysters Rockefeller for my app and the grilled redfish with a Caesar salad and sweet potato creme brûlée as my sides. All of my food came out quickly. Everything tasted great too. They give one of the bigger sizes of fish I've seen. I will put this spot back on my radar for regular dining. read more

It was a 10/10. They were hot and flavorful and very good. We also ordered the shrimp and crab dip. While we expected it to be much creamier, it was still very good. I'd rate it a 8.6/10. For our main course we got seafood pasta and catfish. Both were amazing but the hush puppies and grits definitely stole the show. Our waiter was very nice, although a little slow to come back to the table. He seemed new so we didn't mind. I'd love him to wait on us again. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Expect black seat and dark wood accents. Everything we ate was amazing. I definitely recommend going. Service was a tad bit slow but if you don't mind a wait, go! It's amazing. Apart from the oysters I ordered the royal redfish. They advertised royal red shrimp on top, I've eaten royal reds many many times and they're some of my favorites. these were not them. My redfish and my friends mahi were both so overcooked you needed a knife to cut into it. Very dry and my redfish had some STANK to it. I ate two bites and wanted to send it back. After 10 minutes of waiting to speak with the bartender I just ended up eating the sides. Also overdone, but edible. I finally was able to tell the bartender about the fish and she flat out walked away. Then brought the bill. I told her again about the fish to give her another opportunity to fix it. The bartender left us sitting for more than 20 minutes while she waited on everyone around us. Then again after we asked for the dessert menu for another 20. Ate here twice now as I couldn't remember the first time a few years ago so went back. It was decent but overall the food feels like a mainstream knockoff of authentic New Orleans food. If I recall from my first visit the oysters were good but not great compared to Acme or Drago's (who's oysters preparation quality dropped during the pandemic). I had the crab and shrimp dip which I can only recall one meat present so not sure if the other was left out or was a purée. The Seafood Pasta felt more like it was microwaved as it wasn't "piping hot". The shrimp was small for a pasta, more like salad shrimp. I don't recall many mushrooms.
