Over the years, I've really enjoyed this Half Shell location. However, today, things were very different. I visited the location and had a 20-30 minute wait to be seated. I expected there to be a long wait, given that it was a Saturday afternoon. However, once I was seated, it took another 30-45 minutes for me to get my food. The service was extremely too slow. I would've been more tolerant of the slow service had the food been good, but the food was not the "Half Shell" quality that I am accustomed to. I ordered half dozen Oysters Bienville, and the shrimp in them were very overcooked. I also ordered the fried green tomatoes and crab cakes, and my green tomatoes were actually red. My guest ordered the almond encrusted chicken with a side salad and sweet potato creme brûlée. The almond encrusted chicken had been left under the heat lamp too long and was very chewy. The side salad was room temperature, and the plate was not cold or even chilled, which suggests that the salad had been sitting out for a while. Interestingly, although service was very slow my entire visit, the waitress brought the check 1 minute after I asked for it. Needless to say, I won't return to the Flowood location for a while. I'll stick with the Madison location for now. read more

My husband and I went to Half Shell for the first time to try the charbroiled oysters. We got the sampler which came with the regular charbroiled oysters, Oysters Orleans, Rockefeller, and Bienville. It was a 10/10. They were hot and flavorful and very good. We also ordered the shrimp and crab dip. While we expected it to be much creamier, it was still very good. I'd rate it a 8.6/10. For our main course we got seafood pasta and catfish. Both were amazing but the hush puppies and grits definitely stole the show. Our waiter was very nice, although a little slow to come back to the table. He seemed new so we didn't mind. I'd love him to wait on us again. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Expect black seat and dark wood accents. Everything we ate was amazing. I definitely recommend going. Service was a tad bit slow but if you don't mind a wait, go! It's amazing. We will be back to try the drinks. They looked very good. read more

Although my order was misinterpreted, and I had driven out of range before I figured it out, I spoke to the manager and was able to alleviate any inconsistencies. She was very thoughtful and was able to credit me. That being said, the portions were appropriate and the food was great. I will definitely give them a second chance. read more

Upon arrival it was a 45 to 1 and 1/2 hour wait We were tired we'd been traveling and we had a large party after about 50 minutes and people in large parties going ahead of us we inquired about our wait... We got immediate attention and found out that these parties had joined the wait list online on Yelp and we didn't even know this was an option... I understood but it did not help We were hungry we were tired... Pretty quickly management pulled strings made something happen not sure what but we were seated and attended to quickly... She was up front at the hostess station and was really really nice The manager Nick was very good at explaining and very apologetic... Nothing prepare us for what was to come which was one of the best meals ever and one of the best servers ever Lauren you are a rockstar!!! The best restaurant in Jackson, MS. The food, environment and staff are exemplary. Melissa Vowell is the BEST bartender in MS. She literally is flying around the bar serving patrons as well as the wait staff without ever missing a beat. She is very friendly, observant, brilliant bartender that has outstanding customer service skills, and a positive attitude. I have yet to see someone sit at the bar and not be treated like family, nor order food because Melissa is the ultimate sales person with her friendly personally and expertise of every item on the menu. Last night, she suggested Mario Char-broiled oysters. They are Killer- you can't get just one. The guys shucking the Oysters are true craftsmen and a joy to watch- and very friendly. Just the aroma of the Char-Broiled Oysters will wet your appetite as they the fire flares up on the open range behind the bar. I've never found another restaurant that has nice, succulent, Heavenly, perfect sized Oysters. The Hostesses were Outstanding, Friendly and Helpful. I wish I could give this place more than 2 stars. I was excited about this place & If you're going for the oysters, then ignore this post. Service was some of the worst I've seen. Apart from the oysters I ordered the royal redfish. They advertised royal red shrimp on top, I've eaten royal reds many many times and they're some of my favorites. these were not them. My redfish and my friends mahi were both so overcooked you needed a knife to cut into it. Very dry and my redfish had some STANK to it. I ate two bites and wanted to send it back. After 10 minutes of waiting to speak with the bartender I just ended up eating the sides. Also overdone, but edible. I finally was able to tell the bartender about the fish and she flat out walked away. Then brought the bill. I told her again about the fish to give her another opportunity to fix it. And she just took our plates and put them in the bus tub. We paid the bill, tipped 20% and left. Won't be going back there again. Unfortunately. read more

I haven't been to Half Shell at this location in over a year. I had a gift card so I decided to give it a try. Since it was before 5pm, I was seated immediately. The hostess was working on a chart when I walked in so I had to speak to her first. Then she seemed to catch an attitude when she had to stop what she was doing to find where to seat me. However, she was nice as she walked me to my table. My server, Hailey, popped up quickly and took my drink and appetizer order. Her service was very good. Didn't hover but always walked by the area door to see if I needed a drink refill or to see if I had some dishes to clear. I ordered half dozen oysters Rockefeller for my app and the grilled redfish with a Caesar salad and sweet potato creme brûlée as my sides. All of my food came out quickly. Everything tasted great too. They give one of the bigger sizes of fish I've seen. I will put this spot back on my radar for regular dining. read more

I grew up on the Gulf Coast and typically love this restaurant...but the service was so terrible in Flowood I can hardly even give it 1 star. And I never leave a bad review. The bartender left us sitting for more than 20 minutes while she waited on everyone around us. Then again after we asked for the dessert menu for another 20. While the food was ok, the service was so bad we will not be back. However, I've done a couple of pick up orders and the manager was very nice. Such a shame. read more

I finally had my first experience with oysters. The food wasn't bad, but I'm not a fan of the entree. I preferred the New Orleans oysters over the garlic ones. Customer service was amazing. Ate here twice now as I couldn't remember the first time a few years ago so went back. It was decent but overall the food feels like a mainstream knockoff of authentic New Orleans food. If I recall from my first visit the oysters were good but not great compared to Acme or Drago's (who's oysters preparation quality dropped during the pandemic). I had the crab and shrimp dip which I can only recall one meat present so not sure if the other was left out or was a purée. The Seafood Pasta felt more like it was microwaved as it wasn't "piping hot". The shrimp was small for a pasta, more like salad shrimp. I don't recall many mushrooms. However, the real dinger was the creole Alfredo. There was nothing creole about the Alfredo to my taste buds. Overall, the service was good, the food came out fast, nothing was terrible. read more

This was my first time both at this location and Half Shell. It was a great experience. I was slightly discouraged when I called for a reservation and the hostess answered then hung up the phone on me. We were put on the Yelp waiting list and given a 20 minute waiting time when we arrived in person. Surprisingly, we were seated in 7 minutes instead. Our server was so amazing. I don't remember her name but she had a natural fro that was brown/orange/blonde colored. She clearly was managing several tables, but she still was very informative and sweet. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE ORLEANS OYSTERS! We ordered them as an appetizer and absolutely loved them. We would've ordered more oysters if the Redfish and $3 Mimosas didn't fill us up lol They have earned two new regulars without a doubt. read more

I went to a lunch with a few of my co-workers to celebrate a birthday. I was impressed with the roominess of the interior and the large windows throughout the building. I must also say that it was on a Thursday around lunch time and it wasn't that busy. Our waitress was gracious and kind and suggested things from the menu when asked. I decided to go with the chicken fettuccini. It was horrible. Overly salted at first bite. I didn't have to ask the waitress to return it. She could see the look on my face. She asked me if I would like something else so I just ordered a burger and fries. I ended up taking it home because by the time it came to me, it was time for us to return back to work. Needless to say, not a good first experience for me. Management didn't come to try and smooth things over. I would have accepted an apology from whomever cooked that dish. read more
