This is a nice clean store at this location. Very well organized and laid out logical with plenty of signage identifying the various sections. All of the authors are alphabetized but only a few sections, like Science Fiction and Mystery, had shelves with letter markers to help guide you. The Romance section did not have this feature. I browsed and shopped for quite awhile. I checked out the Science Fiction and Mystery sections for a long time. I perused the Wii, Wii U, PS2 & PS4 games too. I pretty much walked through the whole store and every section. The Historical section was interesting. They must have bought somebody's old Playboy collection because they were selling them as collector's items with each issue individually sleeved in plastic. But I did not find anything to buy this time; doesn't mean I won't be back because I will come back again. read more

Great location of Half Priced Books in Avon. The store is very large and has a great selection of movies, records, games, and of course books. This time around I found a movie and a good conditioned hardcover book all for only $15. The parking lot is large and it's easy to get in and out of lot. read more

This is probably the best collection of HPB in the Indianapolis area. The store is HUGE, well spaced out, and is always clean and crisp. The selection is amazing - any time we have the 40% off sale, we spend hours here on a Saturday, and I always find plenty of things to buy. The comic selection is quite good. The board game selection is better. Amazing section of new/popular books. Always good things in the stacks for books. Toys is okay - sometimes good. DVD/Blu-Ray section is comparable to other stores. CD section is great. I always find a lot of fiction & fantasy books, and they have some great YA books as well. This place is magical - go visit! read more

Anytime I am searching for a specific book, I go on line and see if my local HPB store has it available. If not, I check and see if it can be shipped there. It is really a time and money saver. If I don't know what exactly I want, I go to the stores in person and peruse to my heart's content. You can find not only romance novels, science books, coffee table books, encyclopedias, antique books, autographed copies, true crime, travel guides and whatever else you could ever want to read, but there is so much more to be had here. Think gifts for both readers and non-readers, calendars, puzzles, vinyl, movies, bags, bookmarks, gift certificates and so on. Surely there is a lot more that I can't think off right now. Not only can you buy books here, but you can also sell your treasures to the store. And the staff is quite helpful too. All you have to do is ask for assistance and they will certainly try to help you. Big bonus: I love that this company donates books freely to various causes. read more

Love used book and record stores and HPB is pretty good in the greater indy area. I am more of a music scrounger than a book worm and HPB always has LP's worth eyeballing. I can usually find some new reissues of classic Jazz sides for cheap. The Back to Vinyl series on 180 gm wax is something most HPB's stock. Not a lot of turntable junkies these days so i often find a new gem marked down. Just have to make a point of stopping in more often. read more

Let me start out by saying, I love bookstores and have never had a bad experience at this half price book store before. About a week and half ago I called to make sure that the store was accepting used books. They stated yes however it was by appointment only. I made the appointment for 6/10 at 4:20. I arrive around 4:15, carrying my 50 pound tub of books and a few dvd's in with me. The employee (Jen) started looking in their hand written appointment book for my name, she couldn't find it. It felt as though I was being blamed for the appointment not being in their books, remarks like "When did you call? We weren't taking appointments until a week and a half ago," all around it just made me feel not great being there. Thankfully, or perhaps not thankfully, they offered to squeeze me in. I thanked them and hung out in the store for about 30 min or so, during that time noting price stickers for books similar to those I had brought ($10-$15 per book). When my name was called I happily headed to the counter. For 37 books and 10 dvds (HP movie set) they offered me $20.58. That is around $1.70 a book. Please reference the pictures to see the quality of the books. Needless to say, I declined the offer and truly feel that in some way them not being able to identify that I did indeed have an appointment played a part in the very short handed offer given to me. Nice bookstore with extensive collection. I took my little sister here to select some young adult fiction for her required reading. Highlight of the trip for me was seeing Sweet Valley High and Nancy Drew books. Memory Lane!!! And they had Little House on the Prairie too. As my profile states this is a common place to find me, that said, this is my least favorite store of the 3 in the City. It's the most sterile & uncluttered if your into that,but I need a little chaos in a used book store. I want a little dust on the jacket. A few more overstuffed and broken in chairs would be a plus as well. Don't get me wrong I'm glad your less than 6 miles from my house, and one of only 2 books stores on the west side, but a used bookstore like the tombs they sell, should have a little wear around the edges. read more

I am admittedly a book fanatic, so I just love this place, I could get lost in it for hours. This particular location is very big and has such a great selection! You may never know what you are going to find if you end up wandering and almost always you can find something you've been wanting to read at a great price (even better if it is on clearance which TONS of books are every day!). They even have an awesome selection of CDs and DVDs. This place can be very bad on my wallet... I have sold here before and don't expect to make a fortune but it is nice to get some money back and not have to go through the hassle of selling everything individually on your own. Also, keep in mind that their prices are very much influenced by supply and demand, so even if you have a popular book from last year, they may already have plenty of copies on their shelves. They will donate books they don't feel they can sell, so even if I don't make anything I know they are getting used which is a good feeling. The only frustrating thing is to sometimes have no idea what section the book you are looking for is in, ex. a book could be fiction/sci-fi/mystery and you don't know what area it is filed under. I am sure the workers would be happy to help when they can but sometimes this store gets too busy to have many floor helpers. Oh well, just gives me an excuse to wander around and check out all the sections! read more

I am a big fan of HPB and am so thankful this location is here on the west side. Used book stores on this side of town are practically non-existent. If you don't count Goodwills, then they are completely non-existent. Luckily for us bibliophiles who don't have the golden bars for King Barnes and Nobility prices, HPB effectively slays the dragon. The Avon location has a good selection of all the categories I look at: Religion, Philosophy, Religion clearance, fiction, children's, comics, self-help, languages, back to fiction to see if can find any Vonnegut. I'll often find a fiction clearance gem or two (Like John Gardner's "Grendel"). The staff is friendly most of the time, too. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule, but I've never had any troublesome interactions. Awkward, yes. Troublesome, no. They've primarily been helpful and attentive. All in all, I'll probably be back once a week for the rest of my life. I wish they had a bigger space so that maybe they could have some sitting room, but I know that's not what they're there for. They're a place for buying, not for lounging and reading. I'll take my discounted literature and read it at a coffee shop. Or better yet, at King Barnes' nearby. I'll probably spend more on a hot chocolate than I did on this book. Priorities... read more

Some Half Price stores can be so unorganized and crammed full of stuff. This location is clean, friendly and easy to shop. It's much easier to browse when you aren't overwhelmed by junk and overstocked merchandise. I find myself spending much more time in this location than other Half Price stores. Great place for hard(er) to find items, gift items, activity kits for kids and calendars. I always get a desk calendar for my dad at Christmas and Half Price always has the best selection at reasonable prices. read more

Great service and one can find a diamond in the rough here! We found tons of awesome vinyl records!!! I am old school; I prefer to read "real" books and not E-Books (Kindle) and half price books is a wonderful place for people who love to read and read a lot! I buy a dozen books at a time for about $10-$15 then I bring it back within a month or two and get another dozen books. Besides books they carry wonderful gifts, trinkets, very unique stationary, greeting cards, and both new and used board games, records, cd's, dvd's, and blu-rays. The store is nice and clean but their CDs are way OVER PRICED for being USED and I love when they put on the sticker, "$9.99, selling online for $20" then you look online and it's selling for $12. If you are in to used CDs and willing to trace 45 mins go to Bloomington's store better selection and most highest priced cd is $3.99!!! read more

A great store for buying books and games and such. I like to frequent the store semi-regularly just to see what new games and books they've gotten. Prices are reasonable, as the name of the store implies. I took a large collection of Dungeons and Dragons books and tile sets to them to see what I could get for them. The books were 4th edition and it was well before 5th edition was released. I was taken aback at the price offered to me. I'm sure for regular novels and books, you probably expect a low return but for gaming books, especially ones they had no stock of, I was not pleased with that result. I stick to the buying and leave the selling of books for myself. As long as I do that, I'm a happy customer. read more

The store is nice and neat and laid out like all the others, but these people are too slow. I was just trying to sell some videotapes. I really didn't care if I only gave me a quarter per tape, but they were so slow that it took them 25 minutes before they even told me that they haven't even looked at them yet. I left and went to the Greenbriar location, where they are more fully staffed and quicker and more considerate of time commitments. read more

The Greenwood location is on my side of town but the Avon location is much cleaner and nicer and more orderly. I have always had great success in locating fiction books on my list and mystery novels on my mom's list. They have a pretty good selection of movies and music that I like to browse through also. I like this store and I've always been treated very courteously here. read more

It is a clean and well organized store. Prices are reasonable to purchase most things. Selling books and cd's, not as much. We have brought lots of books in, and for about 20 books, they offer 1.25, because they are book club editions, even though they will sell each book for more than the 1.25 each they offer for all books total. If you just want to get rid of them, then it's more money than you came in with. If you think you will get a lot, you probably will be disappointed. read more

Extensive amount of old and new material, with some clearance sections (like DVDs and CDs under $3 in the back). Many things caught my eye, yet I still walked out with nothing. Wanted to see how honest they were so I took a pristine/new book valued at $1500-$2000 in. Clerk looks it up, gets big eyes (I was lurking around the corner) and calls her manager up. They offered me $50, at which point they admitted (although embarrassed) that they knew what the book was worth. So.....you just admitted that you were trying to rip me off. Never ever go there.....at least check on ebay for real value of your items before stopping in. To offer a customer 4% of what an item is worth is inexcusable. read more
