We went to IRC in Avon last Saturday to see about getting our granddaughters guitar that her late father left her some work done on. we were quoted between $100 and $110. we thought it was a little bit high for the amount of work that they were to do but decided to go ahead and get it done. While we were there my husband spotted a guitar he thought a friend of his might like and asked them to hold it until Monday when we could bring his friend in. when we returned on Monday his friend did buy the guitar. They finished up working on our granddaughter's guitar while we were there and then told us it was to be $176.00. They gave us 3 conflicting stories as to why it was so much more money. They had our phone # and never called us to say it could cost more. When my husband (70 years old) complained that it was over $60 more than they said it would be the manager came out of the back room and threatened my husband and told us to "just take our guitar and get out of his store" and so our friend who just bought a guitar (that we recommended) picked his guitar up and we all left. We found the manager to be a bully, rude, and threatening. We have bought several thousands of dollars worth of music equipment over the last 25 years and we will never return to this store again and will suggest to anyone we know to do the same. He is lucky we didn't press charges. read more

This is a great music store on the Westside of Indianapolis. Not as big as some others, but what they lack in square footage is made up for in friendly, knowledgeable staff willing to go the extra mile to ensure you have a good experience. The selection of instruments is good, and priced competitively to other stores. If you do have an issue with your instrument, the in store luthiers are seasoned and won't rest until you are satisfied. Will continue to shop here. read more

I waited 24 hours to post. Im moving from Ohio to Indiana and needed some supplies. Wish I could give zero stars Found this place by chance as the TRH is nearly next door. Ill tell you, I wish if never stepped foot in the place. Such rudeness I haven't encountered since my first truck buying excursion30 years ago. I guess its because I'm female, but why do guys think they can be so rude and try to upset what they want?. In this case, I went in and to the display. The salesman came up and asked to help. I told him what I was looking for. It went down hill from there. End result, he wanted me to buy something I neither asked for or wanted. Additionally, what he wanted me to purchase would have damaged my guitar if I had bought it. He had the opacity to follow me out to the parking lot waving a guitar at me. I loudly told him I didn't want an argument. I still want to go back there to give him an ear full, but I'd likely be arrested. I found a nice little string shop not to far away. They not only sold me what I wanted, but had several different ones to choose from. Its just a hole in the wall on 40 in Plainfield. Named 6 Strings Down. Its near the DIY hardware store. Friendly and helpful service, had to get new strings for a guitar. Was able to get this finished same day,

IRC was recommended from a friend whose child is in band a few years ago to us. Our child's saxophone needed recorked and we stopped into IRC. They called the repair person and the repair was done in three hours! We also stopped in another time to check a couple notes on the sax and the problem was fixed in five minutes! Thankfully, both times it has been an easy fix. Always top notch service, questions answered, someone is always ready to wait on you and assist. Highly recommend this place! read more

IRC has been around for a long time but that does not always translate into being "the place to go" for your music needs. Generally over-priced but not outrageous, there is no real value added for the higher price. No expertise in any particular area or special repair or customization ability, they have just been 'ok' for years. The same is true for the store in the always congested and overcrowded Avon area, nothing real special here, decent variety and good if you need something small like strings, etc. For the most part you'll pay $20 more for amps and guitars that you would elsewhere. I wish there was something outstanding about this place but they've never gone that extra mile to be. read more

I purchased a guitar with a list price of $1800. I had an issue with a pick-up and had to remove it for repair. I took my guitar in to have 2 wires soldered for the pick-up. When I got my guitar back, it didn't sound the same and the volume pot crackeled when I turned it. For a ling time I couldn't isolate the noise. I took the back off of my guitar and noticed some wires had been moved and soldered in different places and a large puddle of solder on the volume pot. I'm fairly positive this is what caused my problem. My first issue is nobody had the right to do something I did not authorize. (Messing with the wires to the circuit board) This is not your guitar to make changes to. Second, I shouldn't have to pay to fix something you guys broke. If I was the owner of this guitar store and I messed with your guitar, I would have offered to replace it with a new one. I'm still irrate about my guitar and seriously considering trading it in. Very pissed off customer!!!! I won't buy anything here again! read more
