My son purchased a Lego set on vacation in Virginia. It was missing a piece. Upon return to Indiana I went into the Plainfield location to exchange it. The manager told me no. I had a receipt. She indicated that I needed to contact Lego to exchange the product or obtain a piece. I told her that was in conflict with what was listed on the company website. She proceeded to tell me I was incorrect and told me that I needed to pull up the company website and show her. I indicated to her that she should be versed in her job and that it was not my place to show her what the company website showed. I left the product on the counter and walked out. My 11 year-old is out a Lego set and I am out the money spent on the Lego set. Bad business Barnes & Noble's. Boo! Train your employees better. Have standard operating procedures on hand so customers do not leave disappointed and frustrated. read more

I had a horrible experience at this store! I hope management sees this review. Everyone was really nice but there was this lady and her name is Farrell. I politely asked her if she can help me locate where that Spanish books where and first of all she just points to where I should go check. Second i asked her a question about if she knew what kind of Spanish books they had and she looked at me like I was stupid and said "I don't even know what you're trying to tell me or ask me" I just apologized and walked away and tried my best too look for the books I was looking for. She was extremely rude! I don't know how Barnes and Noble hires people with this attitude! It was truly a disgusting experience! read more

Today I just needed to make a quick visit to pick a book I had been waiting to be released. There were a couple of things that caught my eye like the bookmarks and the PRIDE end cap. I picked up a cute heart shaped Pride cookie for a close friend that I think they'll love. I also randomly found the book to one of my favorite shows Lessons in Chemistry I couldn't resist not getting. First time visit to this location but long time customer of this book store chain. The store was sparsely populated with customers and staff, but after standing at the Customer Service counter in the center of the store for just two minutes an employee asked if I needed help, which I did. I wanted to preorder a Michael Connelly book, Desert Star, that comes out in November. I want to read it as soon as it is released. It will take months to get it from the library. It only took the staff member a couple of minutes to process my preorder. I browsed the bookmark selections on my way out. Since I'm reading two books at the same time, I needed a second bookmark. They had a whole four sided turnstile kiosk of really nice bookmarks. read more

More than a book store. You can hang out in here, they have spots where you can take a seat and leaf through or read a bit before you buy it. And as someone else had mentioned already, they have more than books here. A rather large music collection is also available, along with games, calendars, journals, some crafts. There is a Starbucks inside, full service and delicious as they all are. Best though: If you are looking for a particular book, you can just call ahead and they will have that ready for you at the cashiers. If you are trying to study STAY AWAY from this Starbucks. Seating areas are not comfortable, internet is very slow, and there are no outlets anywhere near the areas to charge your laptop. In addition, there is not enough staff working so the baristas are relatively slow while making your drinks. I ordered a Iced Pumpkin Spiced Latte and it took about 20 minutes. Considering the amount of time I waited I was thoroughly disappointed with my drink. It was not filled properly, tasted watery, and I could barely taste the pumpkin. I doubt there is anyone who hasn't been to B&N. They always have the books I'm looking for plus I find more. Still a great section of magazine's, music and movies/tv shows as well. Lots of good educational toys for children too. While I love shopping independent bookstores sometimes B&N is just easier. read more

Very clean Barnes & Noble. Great selection of cheap books. I love the cheap books area. Also happen to find a DVD I was sure there was no chance of finding. Great service up front and no issues scanning by B&N perk card. Not many employees on the sales floor. In fact the only two I saw were both siting on the floor rearranging the travel books. Someone needs to give the DVD section a little love. Lots of titles out of order. read more

I have to admit I was impressed with this place. Not only is it huge, it has a lot of items that you wouldn't normally think of in a bookstore. It seems they realize that people who read books might also like board games, of collectibles, or gifts for folks who read, and a cafe for enjoying your newest purchase. On the day we went, there was an organization providing gift wrapping for the holidays. Very cool and convenient. This Barnes & Noble bookstores is one of the main anchors at The Shops at Perry Crossing, which is an outdoor mall in Plainfield. This visit was all about the kids section, as I had young children with me and we were looking for a gift for another young child. I went specifically to find an educational floor puzzle, but alas, they don't have any here. They have a grip of adult puzzles, though, so if you're looking for a puzzle that isn't for kids, Barnes & Noble has your back. They also have a pretty decent toy section, with lots of games and whatnots for all ages. I saw hand puppets, science kits, board games, craft projects, Melissa & Doug toys and stuffed animals. The kids section also has a big train track set up for kids to play with, and, thankfully, chairs for adults to sit in and rest for a while. Near the checkout area, I saw a whole section dedicated to audio-visual materials, including CDs and DVDs and Blu-Rays. In this section, you can find movies and music, obviously. This Barnes & Noble, like every good Barnes & Noble, has a Starbucks inside it, with lots of little tables in the cafe area. I saw many people with computers who had set up shop, and it was fairly crowded, so it seems like this area is a happening place. read more

This Barnes and Noble was one of the first establishments I visited with my daughter when we first moved to Indiana. It has become our little sanctuary. A spot we can come and grab something to drink and plan for the week or read a book. Like every B&N there is a great selection of Books, Toys, Gifts and Knick knacks. There is also a starbucks inside with little tables. That's our usual go to spot in the store. The staff has always been very friendly and willing to help with any questions we have. No doubt this is one of our favorite places to be in town. read more

This is a readers dream! I could just spend hours upon hours in this store looking at my future reads! I love how one of the first things you see are the recommendations of books that you should read. The children's se toon is pretty amazing too! Very inviting with different books and crannies for kids to snuggle up and read a new book. read more

I have been to this Barnes and Noble location twice, those visits being the day after Christmas in both 2015 and 2014. I have honestly had some trouble with anxiety both visits, but I don't necessarily place blame on the store. I suppose the only thing about the building that adds to it in particular is the high vaulted ceilings. If there was a smaller location with a more closed in, cozy feel, I would opt for that, but I don't think that such a bookstore exists anymore. I did work through the panic for the most part, but slightly less well on my last visit... That embarrassing side note aside, although I felt it worth mentioning, it is a clean and bright store. I like to visit the day after Christmas to peruse the Christmas cards that are always on sale, book sales tables, and calendars. I have gotten Christmas greetings from this store the past two years that are beautiful as well as religious. They were a great price and consist of much higher quality card stock and paper envelopes than most other places where I have purchased cards. They also have many secular cards that were darling, if that is more your speed. Many of the books I have seen on the sales tables out front are lovely coffee table books on different subjects, classic novels in nice hardback or faux leather, etc. Many great items to snag up for next year. (Or for Serbian Christmas on January 7th. Wink!) I don't recall ever being greeted while shopping until reaching the checkout, but I was not in need of any assistance anyway. I have never tried it, but there is a large coffee stand off to one side with various beverages and food. There are tables and other places to sit near the concessions as well as seating all throughout the store if you want to read or just take a rest. I remember how odd it was to get used to Barnes and Noble and their now extinct competitor being okay with customers sitting and reading books off the shelves in similar fashion to a library. It is something I have become accustomed to, though I don't do much more than a fast flip through and skim. There are also clean restrooms toward the back of the store if you sip too much coffee or water while browsing the shelves. I wouldn't say there is anything over-the-top wonderful about this Barnes and Noble, but it is a nice store. I do like the look of the Metropolis mall in which it resides. If I felt up to it, I would walk around and check out more of the other stores nearby. Perhaps there may be more frequent visits to Metropolis and Barnes and Noble in the future for me. Plus, there is always Claddagh Pub a hop, skip and a jump away (next door) if some liquid courage becomes necessary. read more

I walked in to Barnes & Noble tonight with my boyfriend. We were intending to drop a lot of money on books as a Christmas present to me. I've always felt at home around books, so I was euphoric. As context, I am a woman who doesn't "look" like someone who would be a big fan of Tolstoy and Shakespeare, but I am. There was a group of workers all gathered around the help desk. I stood there and waited while they talked. The group was a mixture of men and women who all worked there. One of the girls noticed me and asked if I needed help. I asked her for assistance with finding a particular book. The girl helped me and when I looked back to the group of workers at the help desk, they were laughing at me, looking at me, whispering to each other, blatantly making fun of me. Hands down, WORST EXPERIENCE I have EVER had at an establishment. But, if you want the workers at this establishment to make fun of you, laugh at you, and humiliate you, then sure, go here. Ruined my night. I hope the workers who made fun of me today are happy that I walked out of the store crying. Won't ever be returning. Stick to e-books. read more

My second home. My sanctuary. My love. I've always been that girl that has her nose in a book. I love to read, and I love buying new books! I can get so immersed and involved in the story. I have always had a love for Barnes & Noble :) The employees have always been nice to me, and they are very helpful in answering any of my questions. The B&N member card is the best! Buy the constitution of Texas. Buy all the self-help bestsellers for $7-15. Then mosey your way over to newer arrivals, book/comic flavored novelties and an extensive and interactive kids section. My daughter loves standing on the mini stage and stealing as much attention as possible. Most of the time I bring my computer and work remotely from the Starbucks nestled inside. I went for specific books for a birthday present with very little time to shop. Staff was super helpful, looked up all 3 on computer, and he even offered to ship out of stock books to my home. Guess their trying to compete with Amazon because books are cheaper when shipped than purchasing in store. Staff even offered to wrap quickly knowing the book was a birthday gift. I was in and out with wrapped gift in 15 minutes. That's great customer service!. read more

On a recent shopping excursion for dirty books for my secret Santa gift, I decided to stop at Barnes and Noble. I walked in and whispered "where are the dirty books?" The man behind the counter shouted "you mean where are the slutty books, I mean smut books?" Here comes this bubbly girl with knee high boots and long blonde and purple hair. She said, "Did someone say dirty books? They're my specialty, come with me!" We followed and asked for her best recommendations. She showed us two, both of which she was clear to point out that you can't be easily offended if you're going to read them. I said, "they're perfect." This is the best way to get your next best book - ask complete strangers! So, if you find yourself here, make sure to ask for Roberta. Honestly, I've never been in a more peaceful place. The service is great, and it's just a overall fun place to be.

I love this bookstore. Some of the books are a little expencive but they have alot of good student help books. i also love the fact that there is a Starbucks inside! Coffee and a good book! the best evenning, morning, noon, or night. I really enjoy the chairs. They are very comfy and I havn't had an employee kick me out yet for just sitting and reading something I havn't bought. read more
