We had a really nice view where we sat. In fact, every table has a great view. The food here isn't what it used to be. We started off our order with calamari and had one of the dryest tasting calamari. It was very overcooked. Everything here is very overpriced. I ordered the salmon and my wife ordered the filet mignon. Both were good, but the quality and price were not at parity. Our service was a bit slow even though the restaurant was not very full. This was once the home of Chart House and they have maintained the look and feel of it, but not the price and quality of it. I know a lot of folks like this place, but this is not one I will be returning to anytime soon. read more

I have heard great things about this restaurant for about a year but since Covid came around we were unable to make reservation. We finally made reservations for Brunch on Valentine's Day and it surpassed our expectations. Every dish was so good and the service was excellent. We had chose the Pre Fixe brunch menu and I had Brioche French Toast, Smoke Salmon on toast and for dessert the Ice Cream sandwich for two. At the end of our dining we were given a red rose for Valentine's Day and i thought that was a sweet surprise. Definitely coming back to try their dinner menu. Let me start by saying that my wife and I have been to the Half Moon ("HM") numerous times since the restaurant's opening, well over 15 times over the years and always had a rewarding experience. The views are unparalleled and the food and value were always great. But after not visiting the HM for about two years, I noticed a great change, and not in a good sense. Something sinister has happened to the prices, the quantity and the quality of food and experience, they have become inversely proportional - that is, the prices have gone up substantially and the quality and experience have gone down as has the portion size of the dishes. I am not including the view in the experience as that remains exceptional. I must also say, the service was very good and the food servers were very attentive and properly attired, which is more than can be said about the manager. I still believe that the manager of a restaurant in HM's price range should be properly attired in a suit. It just projects an air of competence and elegance. Not in this case. A recently visit to HM with wife and friends was was a great disappointment. To me, the sign of hospitality in a restaurant, certainly one that is now calling itself Mediterranean, is the bread basket. No bread was forthcoming nor offered, nor were there olives or other starters, that is when I had a foreboding feeling that something was off. To begin with, scanning the menu the first that hit me was the hefty increase in prices. I know the Trump Tariffs are having an upward effect on prices overall and restaurants are included, but is all of the HM's food stock imported? I hardly think so. The menu has become more Mediterranean, but I doubt all the ingredients are imported from Spain and Italy. I mean, $24 for a Pork Belly Chicharron? Come on, that is just deep-fried pork rinds, what a great margin for the House. The same with a $28 hamburger and $39 for a chicken paillard! I ordered a $26 Mediterranean salad that seemed so promising, consisting of lentil tabouleh, pepper, eggplant, chickpeas and romaine lettuce amongst other Mediterranean delicacies, and expected to be able to share it. What was presented was a "salad" the size of a soup bowl with no romaine and instead dominated by a bunch of sliced cabbage. Really? The kitchen was also not paying attention to details. One of my friends ordered the Seared Rare Tuna, $46 consisting of only four items-the tuna, orange, almond and watercress. Well...the kitchen forgot the watercress. Yes the watercress was promptly delivered after pointing out to the server that the item was missing but it was anything but a busy night, the oversight is inexcusable. Sometimes, if you have nothing good to say, it better not to say anything...but silence speaks volumes. I do not foresee returning to HM anytime soon. read more

Sat at the bar for Sunday brunch - delicious cocktails and food. Standouts were the mezze platter and the burger & fries. The bar staff was amazing, while the hostesses were less than friendly. Great views of the river, and next time I think it would be fun to sit outside. read more

Our waiter seemed to be busy and overwhelmed with other tables. She got our food orders wrong; we received food we did not order, we did not get plates for our appetizers, the bus boy made us feel rushed, and I asked a different waiter for something, and he never returned what I asked. Been wanting to try Half Moon since noticing it next to the Dobbs Ferry train station. Strange reference point aside, the location couldn't be more perfect. If you're outside here or along one of the window tables, you have sweeping views of the river, the Tappan Zee, and if it's clear out also the George Washington and the city itself. The restaurant inside is tastefully modern and huge. Service was pretty good and very attentive. Drinks were unexpectedly great. I got the Jungle Bird 2.0 which was a perfectly executed rum and pineapple cocktail. My wife loved it too. For an appetizer I got 6 oysters. This was the lone miss, as while the oysters were great quality, nothing was labeled and the shucker screwed up by not dislodging the oyster from the shell AND simultaneously getting chunks of shell in a few of them. Really hope that isn't the norm as the oysters themselves were too damned good. My friend got a Caesar salad which we so big he ended up sharing it. For my main I got the scallops. These were cooked perfectly and were pretty sizable, even if you only got 4. They were accompanied by sliced grapes, cauliflower, and butternut squash purée. Between the fish and the sides it was a simple and very Sicilian preparation, which is a good thing. My wife liked her steak, and my friends liked their branzino and shrimp dishes as well. Skipped dessert solely because we had to get back to the baby. Very pleasant restaurant and one I will definitely be returning to. Despite being a fancier restaurant, the prices were very reasonable for the quality we got and there was no pretentiousness to speak of. I guess there's a reason why half the cars in the parking lot were Mercedes, Ferraris, or the like: rich folks ain't stupid when it comes to finding good food. read more

Bizarre experience. This place is MASSIVE and feels like you're in Vegas. Lots of tourists which is odd for Dobbs Ferry. The view, service, and interior are all top notch. I'm giving 2 stars because the prices are absurd for what is very mediocre food. The drinks are fair but the food is steakhouse price while slightly above diner quality. The fluke ceviche was good but pitifully small for $30 and gave my partner and I indigestion. If you're looking for a quiet and intentional meal, look elsewhere. I'm giving half moon 5 stars because they really check off all the boxes except for one. But I feel like where they fall short can be easily changed. One of their hostess seems to have very little customer service skills. I cant remember her name but she is the 1 with Gothic inspired makeup & extremely large lashes. I witnessed her be short with several guests who had reservations. This is my ONLY complaint Now for the good. The view is amazing!! The food is fresh and full of flavor ,literally everything we ate was delicious. I recommend the ceviche, cod fish , carrot cake. The manager Ray immediately took care of us when he was notified of our issue and continued to check on us for the rest of our time there. Imagine a view of one Bridge (Tappan zee) on one side and the George Washington on the other side of your table. You get that and awesome food here. They have a "restaurant week lunch special" under $35.00 before taxes. Includes tapas for extra $6.00! All the way to desserts, . The service was impecable, professional and courteous. They take the plates from you while you still having the fork in the mouth jajajjaajajajaja just kidding! They are extremely attentive and that to me happened only in a five stars location! Came here for Easter Lunch; I was a little nervous looking at the menu as I am gluten and dairy free. Our waiter Carlos made sure that not only my dietary restrictions were met but that I had something for each course. He continuously let me know my options and checked with kitchen staff: Everything was very delicious but I was completely blown away by the service from our waiter. I am surprised that I hadn't reviewed Half Moon yet because I had visited more than a few times over the years and I mostly like it. For me, this waterfront restaurant has the best Hudson River view in Westchester County and a fun ambiance. I think the staff is attentive but the food can be a hit or miss depending of what you order ( I don't recommend the tapas they are bite size) . The cocktails are not very strong but the good. It isn't a cheap place but again you are paying for the location. They do have a good happy hour from Monday to Thursday and if you finish work at 12pm on Friday. Overall I think it is a beautiful place to get together with friends and family. read more

Booked half moon and Hudson social for Father's Day, and I'm very glad I decided to cancel Hudson social and stick with half moon. Note: both half moon and Hudson social are in the same area by the dobbs ferry train station. One of the main reasons I chose half moon over Hudson social is the fact that they're actually waterfront. This is very important to me. Hudson social tries to say they're waterfront but the water is actually across the train station parking lot. Not cute. Half moon has a beautiful location actually ON the water, and the views are breathtaking from the minute you walk in. The vibe is upscale yet comfy. We were seated on the further away outdoor patio, and we loved our table. The kids got to see the boats, we got to enjoy our food and drinks. Service, despite what everyone on here claims, was actually very good. We were asked several times how we were doing, so there were no issues. The food was pricey but yummy. We got a crab cake and banana bread for appetizers. The kids devoured the banana bread. At $18 for 2 slices, I'd say that is pretty expensive but it was a good move on half moons part to put something so kid-friendly on the appetizer list. The crab cake was delicious too. Full of crab, not much filler, and yummy sauce. Expensive again, but good. We came for brunch. My husband got the steak and eggs. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I got the chicken and waffles, which in my opinion was just okay. Everything was just a little dry. I used my sons syrup to jazz it up and that helped, but with the little drizzle of jalapeño honey it comes with, it isn't enough. My sons French toast was pretty good though too. And the drinks were on point but at $18 each, again pretty expensive. We would definitely come back though. For a nice meal out, this is a great spot. At almost $300 for a family of 4; one a toddler who didn't order food and the other a child, it is a splurge we can't do every day but when we want to treat ourselves, this is a great choice! read more

The fish burger and grain bowls were only okay. A bit salty and limited. The drink menu was robust and my rose sangria was awesome. Downside The place was virtually empty both inside and barely full outside. I asked to be put on a list to be seated outside and that just didn't happen. I mentioned it was our 8 year anniversary special lunch and the waiters didn't care or bring a little extra something like places normally do. At least get us outside but they couldn't even do that. Granted, this was a Saturday evening at a popular restaurant, known for its grand views of the hudson, as well as the flickering big buildings and lights of NYC in the distance. I ordered 7 of them. They were good but I don't think they were worth the 49$. I should order the east coast oysters next time. I ordered them cause I usually eat oysters from the east coast. This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit in Dobbs ferry. Not only are the views gorgeous but the staff is always attentive and welcoming. I prefer the visit in summer nights and seat outside on the patio near the fireplace but table or bar seats are great as well. Over the summer this restaurant was crowded every weekend. Usually a hour wait for outside seats but bar seating available within 10-15 minutes. Usually my go to order is a dozen of the various oysters they feature from East and West coast. The selection usually changes weekly. My entree order is usually a pasta dish. The pasta dishes available change but I enjoy the variety. This year they are holding a new years dinner. We started off with soups, I had the potato leek flavorless I had to add salt and pepper, my spouse had the New England clam chowder, needed to add salt and pepper. As the waiter left we reminded him we needed spoons, by the time we got our spoons our soups were tepid. The chicken sandwich was deemed to be excellent by my spouse. I had the salmon. ($10.00 additional charge) the skin was so tough I couldn't cut it with my table knife, the fish was so over cooked! The salmon sat on some kind of a salad??? Cucumbers and walnuts. I had to ask for lemon. We both had the excellent vanilla cheesecake for dessert. The venue was in an extraordinary beautiful setting. The restaurant it self was beautiful. I would say it is best place in Westchester area that I have tried so far. It compares to Manhattan restaurants of the same level. If you have no time going to Manhattan, this place is pretty good. We rarely repeat restaurants, but we visited it several times. We got Ahi Tuna and scallops and both dishes were pretty good. Guacamole and fried calamari were pretty tasty as well. We've been here twice so far, the first time was during a winter HVRW season where we were blown away with all they had to offer in terms of cuisine, service and a spectacular nighttime view of the city lights off the Hudson River. When we visited for my husband's birthday a couple of months ago, it again, did not disappoint. We opted to sit outdoors and take in the scenery, the sun and a cool breeze on a beautiful sunny day in June.5 Service was great. We were always checked up on and the food was great all around. We had a wonderful time and were even able to surprise hubby with a birthday dessert and candle. We all shared an order of mac & cheese to start, which was very good. For the mains, I had the halibut, my MIL had scallops, and hubby and my son had steak frites and hubby had their signature burger. We were all very happy with our food. At the end of our meal, the server brought hubby a happy birthday chocolate lava cake with a candle and we sang to him. After we finished, we walked towards the parking lot to leave but not before taking a few celfies and posing while another group graciously took our picture and we returned the favor. The views are breathtaking. Half Moon is the perfect spot for a romantic lunch or dinner with your significant other or even for a meal with the whole family. You really can't go wrong and Dobbs Ferry, itself, has always been a place I love to walk around. You can take a stroll on the Old Aqueduct Trail and end your day here, on the water, flanked by the colorful horizon, setting sun and boats passing by while enjoying a cocktail and some really thoughtful food. Nice place... Food wasn't so great. I'm a big ambiance guy so when I go somewhere to eat I know I'm also paying for the view. I unfortunately got more of the view instead of the quality preparation of the dish. I had the filet Mignon along with a side salad.. which was actually good! It's the steak that got me!
