During the storms, the holiday season, and a lot of confusion in working with insurance, it took a bit to properly connect with Halco. However once we figured out how to proceed, we had great communication with them to organize an estimate and the repairs. Very competitively priced, Halco Roofing came out and quickly assessed what needed to be done. The offered multiple options, including the bare minimum to resolve a leak and satisfy the insurance piece, as well as other value added work that could help us. We chose what we wanted without any pressure from them and agreed on the work and price. Halco was recommended to me by a friend and neighbor. They did an excellent job re-roofing my home in Livermore at a competitive price. Hal, Jennifer and Lupe are very good to work with, taking time to address customer concerns. They are experienced professionals that gave me confidence the job would be done right. During the quoting process Hal did an inspection of my existing roof and estimating the remaining life. He addressed my questions about replacing all of the barge rafters and all the soffit vents including adding a few for better air flow. Other companies I got quotes from sent out sales people that just referred to satellite images and said I could discuss those "extra items" with the crew when they show up. That sounded too late to me. Jennifer's was good about discussing shingle options and where I could go to see samples. In the end I went with the upgraded Certain-teed Presidential Solaris on the house and two small sheds. Lupe was good about discussing the few areas of wood repair that was needed and had matching materials. The 47 year old original barge rafters on the house were weathered and cracked with rot on some ends. Rather than the minimum patching of the rotted sections, I had them all replaced. Halco used high quality trim wood in single piece runs and pre-painted them to match. This was not that expensive and it's best done with the roof. I've had a couple leaks pop up on our tile roof over the years. There's a number of trees around the house and the roof gets quite a bit of debris that clogs up the valleys and gutters. Their bid was significantly lower than any of the other companies we contacted, and it turned out their work was exceptional. During the last big storm, I noticed water was leaking from the garage ceiling. Called Halco to get a quote. Left a message and heard back within the hour. They sent out someone to do the quote and was actually able to perform the repair right away - before the next wave of rain! We hired Harold/Hal to reroof our house in 2012. They came out and replaced it in a fair amount of time with no problems, however, every year it rains we get a leak on the porch at the chimney. Every year I call Hal to come out and fix it. He came out two times and the third time he sent someone else. He called me back the third time and told me he was "Never coming back out" He claims the problem is with the chimney but the water falls thru the roof. He gave us a 5 year warranty, has not stopped the leak and now refuses to fix it properly. Since he has refused to fix it I will probably have to go the the contractor's license board to make him fix it. I do not recommend this company. read more

Unlike some situations with contractors working on my house, I was home the entire time the roof replacement project was underway, so I got to watch and inspect constantly. Work consisted of a fair amount of carpentry changes I wanted to eves and some messy bad wood replacement, in addition to the new roof. Crew workmanship was first class / crew was respectful of my property and effective at job site cleanup / no smoking / no loud music / promptly showed up every morning / worked on weekend days to get the job done quickly. Interaction with Hal and Jennifer throughout the bidding, acceptance, execution and closeout phases was exemplary. They were on site regularly to help with the work and provide q/c. Hal identified the requirement from the roofing material mfg for upgraded adhesive underlayment that I would have wanted anyway. Valley and other sheet metal work and caulking came out fine. Hal kept me promptly informed on his recommendations for wood repairs so I could inspect and approve of contract extras in advance. Hal also coordinated with his recommended insulation company to arrange for additional insulation blown into the attic while the roof was off so the insulation installers did not have to go though my house to get attic access. I'd use Hal and Jennifer again and recommend them to friends. read more

First major rain fall of 2018 and I found I had a leak in my tile roof that was dripping into the house. I understand that the day after rain like that most roofing companies are beyond busy. Hal called me back within 20 minutes of sending out an estimate email. He told me he would be right over (that day) to check it out. He came by, looked at the damage, provided an extremely fair estimate to fix a leak in an emergency situation, and said he would send a couple of his guys over to work on it later that day. He had a team that was doing a full roof replacement close by and said he could spare a couple workers for a bit. He even left his personal ladder there so I would be reassured. Sure enough, a few hours later, he came back with a couple people. They replaced a few broken tiles from some leftover pieces that I had on hand, and fixed the leak. The whole process from initial contact to completion was about 5 hours. I couldn't wait around for the guys to finish on the roof because I had a prior commitment. So I told him I might not be around to pay them after they completed the work. Hal said it was not a problem and he could swing by tomorrow to give me the invoice. He got the job done quickly, and was extremely relaxed about payment and making sure I was happy. Plus, he is just a great person to talk to. When he came the next day with the invoice (exactly the estimate amount) we just chit chatted for about an hour about nothing in general. Cars, life, kids, etc. All around great service from a great guy. My roof needs to be replaced in a few years, I'll probably get a few bids from other companies.
