Halal Guys? Please. Halal Bros is where it's at. When Halal Bros opened near campus, it was just a small little shop dishing up some good food. Now that they're in a larger space at that location, they've also expanded to new locations with one being this Braker location. Thank goodness they did because this location is pretty close to my house. My go-to is combo over rice which is a combination of lamb and chicken over rice. When you mix it all together with the white and red sauce, every bite becomes burst of delicious meaty flavor. I also always ask for extra white and red sauce to go with it. Gyro tastes great. They cut the pieces a little thick which I find strange because thin slices are tastier and easier to eat. Lamb kabob wrap was a little dry. Especially for lamb. You really gotta overcook it to make it dry but it was good with some extra white sauce and house spicy sauce. read more

I'm just going to start by parroting all the other reviews. Compared to the Guadalupe location, parking increased by a multiple of 10 and seating by a multiple of 3. The world looks bright yet again. The only negative difference is that when you're ordering, you're no longer a mere few feet from the grills and the large rotating meat on the spit. If you're not walking out smelling like grease and lamb, did you really go to Halal Bros? The menu and quality of the food is the same as before. I usually get the meat over rice and it's a good portion of carbs, meats, and veggies. Combined with the red and white sauces, it's a fantastic orchestra laid in an aluminum container. Quantity is enormous for the price. Filled to the brim, it's a super filling dinner or can easily be two lunches if you have self control. No skimping on the meats here! read more

The worst guest service that I have ever experienced in my 42 years of life and 18 years of hospitality career. Yesterday (09/24/2021) evening we came to Austin, TX from Houston for a quick family break and went to this restaurant with family for a quick meal. We ordered 4 main course, 3 sides and 3 drinks. When I tried to make a cash payment, the cashier denied to accept any cash but there was no written guest notice. After the card payment we took a table and was waiting for the food. Just out of curiosity I was looking at the invoice and to my utmost surprise I found that two of the items were over charged in compare to published menu price. There was a gentleman on the floor and I informed him the issue. He told me that they have recently changed the price in their system but haven't updated the menu price. I told him that it should be other way around. He said if I want he can give me the refund but if I need to make a complaint, I have do that with the manager. Then I said, can I then see the manager cause what you are doing is not ethical business. He said manager is not there and I can come tomorrow to see him. I said I can't do that. He said then go to online and complaint. He was extremely rude from the beginning as I catch their fraudulent activities. He not for a single minute felt or said sorry about it rather he was showing attitude towards me. Then I said can I then see the floor in-charge. Then he went to the cashier (lady) and then she came with the refund amount in cash. Now if the restaurant doesn't accept cash, then why she offered me cash refund? I told her that it's not about 1 penny or 50 pennies. You can't do that. Most of the customers never look at the invoice cause we look at the menu and believe that the same menu price will be charged. What you are doing is completely unethical business. Just imagine, if you are over charging 50 pennies on each item from 300 customers a day, how much money you are making in a day, in a week, in a month or in a year which are completely unacceptable. You can't do that. She said sorry and offered me the cash refund which I denied. The matter could be ended here. Now the biggest surprise came when after finishing the meal, when we all came out of the restaurant, we were about to get into the car, that guy came out and asked me if I'm a Muslim - which to me has nothing to do with my complaint. Then in front of my family members, he said they don't want us to visit their restaurant any more and better if we go to other locations and they will not allow us to their restaurant any more. What a Surprise! I was speechless. They over charge the customers and if you catch them, they barred you from their restaurant- what an amazing strategy! I have never seen such rude, unprofessional and unmannered employee around the world. So far I have visited 36 counties and this was the most shocking restaurant experience that I ever had. I have worked for Marriott, Starwood and Hilton across the world. My last position was Director of Sales & Marketing in a flagship 5 star property in one of the Asia Pacific location. I was one of the master trainer in guest service, service recovery and guest loyalty. Now I own and run 2 pizza franchise restaurants in Houston, TX. Literally the worst Gyro I have ever had. I don't entirely blame the restaurant, 50% of the terribleness was the Door Dash app. It was my first and last time ordering through Door Dash. I was craving a gyro and on the menu item I ordered it read, "Gyro with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and our white sauce" (see screenshot picture) and when I got to the next screen there was an option for combo, which I took to mean french fries so I clicked it. Finally for a drink I ordered the mango yogurt drink. The food came quickly and the driver left it in the basket outside. All good. But when I opened the container it was meat mixed with chicken, not fries. I was disappointed but willing to take the mix up because the meat was good and I could eat it later. Then I took a big swig of the yogurt drink...which was plain, not mango like I ordered and it was terrible!! Well maybe i can make a smoothie with it later, I thought. I unwrapped my Gyro and took a big bite. The white sauce was really bland, there were no cucumbers at all, and once I swallowed I almost vomited because there was some kind of hot sauce on the meat. I have digestion issues and can't eat hot sauce at all. I tried to take out the pieces with hot sauce which left me with 5 bites of meat, some lettuce covered in the bland white sauce, and only a little naan. About 3/4 of my wrap was inedible. I honestly thought maybe they had delivered the wrong order. I immediately pulled up the Door Dash app and clicked on the review links and chose the option of there being a problem with the food. I was given the option of taking a $9 credit for my next order or clicking on more help. When I clicked on the more help to request either a full refund or a re-delivery of edible food, the app told me it would reply in 3 business days and the option of the credit was no longer there. It wasn't until I went on the restaurant's website that I saw that the description of the wrap included "and hot sauce"....I would never have ordered it if I had seen that on my screen when ordering. So 50% of the problem was the unclear menu on Door Dash (who calls a combo more meat?? A combo is always with fries!) and the fact that I would not be receiving any kind of refund or a credit. The other 50% goes to the restaurant with its bland white sauce (that I refuse to call tzatziki, because it had no cucumber flavor whatsoever), no cucumbers in the wrap, and the incorrect yogurt drink. Plus, who puts hot sauce on gyros??!! Do yourself a favor and try any other gyro place in Austin than this one. read more

Now the service is terrible, the cooks overcook the kabobs half the time, and the prices are double what they used to be. I get it, things are getting more expensive, but this place has doubled... Inflation isn't 100%. I ordered a to-go yesterday, waited for 45 minutes as their website by default says it will take, went in and they were a tad busy, but nothing crazy it was 1/3 full....I told them my name 4x, they said it wasn't ready so I waited and watched for my order, the guy asked me for my name again after 10 minutes and then finally found my order which had been sitting on the counter in the same spot since I'd walked in... Very annoying.... Also and probably the only reason I'm even reviewing them is I've also been no farther than running distance from the toilet today... I ordered the Beef Kebab, and it was DELICIOUS. All of the ingredients were very fresh and the sauces added so much flavor. The meat was cooked perfectly and everything was put together very well. Many middle eastern restaurants I've visited have been over priced, skimpy on portions, and much less in quality when compared to Halal Bros. You are GIVERS my friends, GIVERS! The marinated beef & lamb definitely aimed to please. So juicy, generous, stunning spices/seasoning, and the fresh taste I've been looking for! That yellow basmati rice, all nestled in there- light and delicious. It ain't yellow cause of the butter right? Remember when butter used to be the enemy? Loved the seasoning and spice, nice compliment. Always happy with the veggies too-fresh/crisp; didn't feel like another pointless shred of lettuce. White sauce=Damn! Red sauce= Hot Damn! Being the least morally righteous person when it comes to food choices I've discovered a newfound appreciation for those who live by virtuous eating on the daily. I gave this place many tries before coming to yelp. I also voiced my concerns in person unto deaf ears. In short, here is what experienced on a consistent basis before never going back. Slow and inaccurate service. I would watch people who came after me grab their food. It didn't matter if I called ahead, ordered online or in store. When I did get my food it was either outright wrong or gristle sort of cold meat. Overcooked. I got tired of them losing my ticket and making lame excuses. The Kofta kabob was very tasty, grilled ground beef that's been skewered and grilled, came with a large quantity of rice and salad, my wife enjoyed her falafel plate with the same sides, I helped her enjoy it since i'm qualified for that. This was some of the best falafels we've had....for those of you who are real novices when it comes to Med food......think of these as Mediterranean hush puppies....yum! The hummus is very good too, the pita bread is good but just average. We love this place. We've actually never been in, but we order from Favor...And the food is so damn good. $30 gets you a meal for two and a ton of leftovers to pack two more lunches the next day. Today I remembered why it took me over a year to order from here, the food is average and the dish you get is mostly rice. I ordered 3 dishes to share among my family, gyro, chicken and lamb shawarma each with a pita bread and a side of chicken kebab. The bread is an additional charge, ordered a total of 3, but I was greatly disappointed with the quality. I am sure it's store bought, bread was hard and chewy, save yourself some money and don't order the pita bread. The lamb, chicken shawarma and gyro meat were good but not enough chicken. The chicken kebab was too lemony for my taste, I thought it would taste different, had some before, and it tasted good, seems this one was lacking spice, lemon flavor was overpowering. My wife stabbed her mouth with a piece of hard plastic that was in her food, I know it happens, but still kinda ruined her meal because she was afraid to chew freely afterwards. They also put hot sauce on one of the plates when I requested no hot sauce on all 3. Last, I thought their white sauce would be garlicky type like the one I've had at other places, this one tasted like a mix of mayo and ranch, not good. Make sure you call ahead to make sure this location is actually open before you place an order online and get charged! Food can be pretty good, but only if someone's actually there to make it. I ordered online via Halal Bros website and received both a text message and email confirmation with ETA for pick-up, well within their business hour. When I arrived, the Halal Bros shop inside the Braker convenience store was closed. Their open sign was not lit, and they were dark with no one inside. I called the West Campus location and they said that was strange, they should be open until 11pm (I was there before 6pm). West Campus location was nice and friendly, but unfortunately, they were a bit further away. They advised me to request a refund with the order app on their website. Oh I love this place, very low key but their food is amazing. We go there at least once a week and eat. The food is so tasty and clean, it doesn't give you a "heavy" feeling after eating. Our go to is the Beef Shawarma Over Rice, Lamb Kebab Wrap, Hummus and Falafel with extra pita. The meats are marinated very well and the spice come thru, the veggies and rice compliments the dish. The hummus is very well made and the Falafel is going to take some time as they fried it fresh every time we order it. Very moist and tasty. This place hit the spot in terms of providing Mediterranean food that is affordable and delicious. It might seem on the pricier side at $12 or so for a combination plate of beef and chicken shawarma but the serving size is huge and I think most people will be able to get two servings out of it. The meat was just how I liked it: tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The ratio of rice and meat to salad was fair. Some places have too much salad but this place did a good job of not overdoing it. The white sauce is very tasty and you can get extra of it. It seems to be milk based and it super creamy and has a tangy taste to it. The red sauce is spicy and I like it as well but in more limited quantities. The rice is yellow and tastes better than your typical white rice because it is made with spices. I've been wanting to try halal for a long long time. It always looked so good. I ordered the beef shawarma over rice and a mango lassi drink. For some reason I thought the drink would be like a smoothie like how it usually is but it wasn't. I was a little disappointed by the drink because it was around $2.50 and was definitely not worth it. The food was very good. There was the perfect amount of sauce, rice, meat, veggies - everything! My friends got chicken shawarma and lamb shawarma and it tasted pretty similar to mine. There are a lot of spices so I felt very heavy and full afterwards. Mmmmmm. My favorite dish is the combo. It's chicken and gyro over rice. It comes with a small side salad. I think it's just lettuce, tomato and cucumber. However, sometimes I see pickles in there. I always order some pickles and [red] onion on the side. I am not sure but I think the onion is mixed with a bit of sumac. Whenever I cook at home and prep a side of onions for kebaps, I add tons of sumac and parsley to the onion mix. Maybe that's why I can't really taste it in their mix. My boyfriend and I used to drive all the way down to their UT location prior to their Braker Ln location opening. The drive was always worth it. Seems like this newer place is short on staff. I know they were quite busy during Ramadan and all but now that it's over, there are times when the line is quite long. I don't think it has anything to do with the cooks nor food preps, rather the cashier and/or person taking the orders. I tried calling in on two occasions to place an order for pick up and no one answered the phone. Another time after waiting in line, once it was my turn to order I had to wait while the register was used by another person because he was ringing up a pick up order. I see two registers on their counter but sometimes two people share one. One looks older than the other and I have never seen it being used. Does it work? If not, just get rid of it :-p But I digress, once an order is placed the wait is usually not very long. The staff is always very friendly and quickly give you extra stuff (yogurt sauce, hot sauce, extra pickles etc) upon request without giving you a look. Y'all know what 'look' I'm talking 'bout. The one you see at other places where they either charge for extra stuff or give you just enough to shut you up but with a look that makes you feel you're being a cheap, greedy f*ck if you ask for more but deep down you know you'd like more.
