This is hands down the worst Mediterranean/ Lebanese food I have ever had! Hummus had no flavor. Lamb was tough & greasy. The first time I had it (which was somewhere else YEARS ago) it was terrible, however when I got it at hala cafe it was absolutely amazing. A pretty good Mediterranean spot. I liked the variety of mezes/appetizers they had, and the fact that you can choose a couple to go with the larger dishes. The food wasn't bad, but I found it to be a bit dry and in need of...something. Maybe some sauce, maybe some spice; it was just a bit lacking. You get plenty of food for your money, in any event. After spending the weekend in the hospital with my daughter I really did not have any thing to eat at all and my brother decided to invite me out here. I came and my first initial thought was "wow this place is gorgeous" and Instantly got excited that my first time eating Mediterranean food was going to be here. After hanging out at the table there was a man who I assume is the owner - came up to us and asked us how we were - his approach was super humble and sweet. He told us the food that we ordered was the same Exact food his wife makes at home as well. He made us feel very welcome. Just in town for the night, before we fly out tomorrow, and this place was a random shot in the dark for an early dinner. Best. Decision. Ever. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. The service was very friendly, including a tableside visit from the chef. Hala is a family restaurant, with the father cooking, and a son and daughter waiting tables. They were all charming. They explained that they were from Sudan, resulting in a different variation of Mediterranean food. Whatever they did, it was delicious. We started with stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and falafel. Grape leaves are usually my favorite, and these were excellent, served cold with oil and lime. The hummus was a surprise. This is not your bland, supermarket wallpaper paste hummus. It was fresh, with a noticeable tahini flavor, and good quality olive oil. Served with fresh, hot pita, it was my favorite hummus ever. Jeff had the kofta cabab, and I could tell that he loved it, as I was not even offered a bite. I had the lamb shawarma. Bite sized juicy chunks of perfectly cooked lamb, nestled in a bed of well-seasoned onions and green pepper. Both were served with rice, seasoned with cardamom, clove, and maybe a touch of cinnamon. The aroma gently brushing your sinuses was sublime. My only regret was that I didn't get to try the desserts, but I was too stuffed. Thank you so much, lovely people, for an amazing meal. read more

The best part about this place was the friendly employees! They were so happy to have us there. And they give you so much food! Loved the falafel, hummus, beef & chicken shawarma. The falafel was completely stale and seemed like it was from the previous day's food, and despite the order taking 50 minutes to get ready, everything was cold! Tried this place for the first time last night after reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp. The staff were extremely friendly and personable. Ahmed, the owner, made a point to introduce himself to us and ask us how our everything was. You could tell he genuinely appreciated our business and loved hearing feedback from customers! The food was delicious. We had the falafel platter and gyro platter. Each platter came with rice and two sides (which are any appetizer, soup, or salad). We were able to try the hummus, baba ghanoush, chicken vegetable soup, and fatoush salad. All of the sides were great, and the portions were generous! The falafel was amazing and the gyro was thinly sliced and super flavorful. We even have leftovers to enjoy for lunch today! The prices were very reasonable, too! Went here as a curiosity as we are fans of Mediterranean food. On arrival we a found clean and well appointed restaurant that was a delight to the eye. A place suitable for a lunch, a date, or even an intimate dinner and the staff and owner all engaged and present. We ordered off the menu with the sampler and two sides. Our drinks were green tea and Diet Coke. All food arrived hot an tasty, and the drinks were good. The rice was the fluffiest and nicest rice I think I have ever eaten! Portions were good. Terrific food. Incredible value. Fresh and tasty. We saw the other reviews and decided to get Togo. The interior is super clean and organized. We got gyro plate and kabob. The Greek 'side' salad was loaded with fresh feta, olives, peppers, cucumbers, tomato, and radish. The 'side' hummus was the size of an appetizer serving. It was clearly hand prepared and topped with oil, chick peas and spices. The entrees were delicious and generously portioned. The meats and veggies were tender and perfectly seasoned. The Pita bread was also fresh and wonderful. We are impressed and will certainly return. The staff was friendly, kind, and quick. Do yourself a favor and go visit. We need awesome places like this to stick around our town. 6 months later and if i could add stars I would. Healthy, delicious, and run by great people who care about food and our community. We picked our daughter up from DFW and wanted to eat near the airport to let traffic die down before heading home to Austin. A quick yelp search revealed a bunch of good places to eat within a few blocks of each other in the direction we were travelling. My daughter asked for Italian so we tried that first but it was a 25 minute wait. Then we passed a rib bbq place and another daughter said she didn't want bbq. We all love Hala type restaurants so we decided to check it out. We're glad that we did. The place has a small family restaurant type feel. The menu was was basically what you'd expect with a few expanded options we didn't try. Very tasty and plated in a more upscale way then is typical for this type of food. Prices were very reasonable.
