My first experience here I ate in with family. The restaurant is small, but it's nicely decorated and clean. They even have a little patio section in the front. As far as the food, everyone seemed to like what they ordered. Decided to try them out again, but this time to-go for lunch. I got the chicken kabob sandwich with fries. At around $8 it was a filling lunch, and the chicken was nicely seasoned. I've been craving Mediterranean food and found this restaurant on Yelp. I realized it was close to my work, so I decided to try it last night. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted immediately. I came here around 6pm, and the restaurant was empty. I think it's still a new place, and many people don't know about it. It's a cute restaurant with nice décor. I ordered a gyro sandwich with hummus. Hummus was good, but not the best. Pita bread was thin. My sandwich was tasty. It had enough tzatziki sauce, veggies, and meat. The portions weren't huge which I liked. The price is very reasonable. The service was great. The staff was very nice, friendly, and attentive. We're in from out of town and saw the great reviews so we decided to do delivery. Food was incredibly disappointing! My husband had the gyro, it was edible, but that's about it. I had the beef shawarma. The seasoning was incredibly bitter, and the beef itself was gristly. It was incredibly low quality. The Greek salad has also been over chilled and the vegetables had become squishy. Strangely it LOOKED like it would taste amazing. Unfortunately, it fell extremely short. Sooooo disappointing for the 4.5 star rating that lured me here. The restaurant was very warm, it was 113 degrees outside and probably high 80's inside. Even with the fans on, it was uncomfortable. I ordered a Greek salad and hummus along with an ice water. It was not a traditional Greek salad, it had bell peppers on it and was chopped really fine, with black olives and a creamy dressing. I only had 2 bites and did not finish it because it did not taste good. Hummus was decent, so the appetizer became my dinner. Ice water was obviously tap water and had a horrible taste. Had to order a coke to get the bad taste out of my mouth. So gross. There were two kids running around the whole time with iPads and earphones in, clearly children of the staff and they sat at tables eating in the dining area being loud. Lots of staff sitting around in the dining room eating, which I think is tacky. My server never came around to give me my bill, even though I clearly was done with the food about 10 minutes after I received it. When I got the attention of a man who was working the register, he took my card at the table and walked over to the register. Obviously I wasn't going to get a bill, so I made my way to the register to pay. He asked me why I didn't eat my salad and why I did not take it to go. I simply told him that it had green bell peppers in it and was not a traditional Greek salad. He then got a little argumentative with me, stating that it says on the menu that green bell peppers are on it. Maybe they were on the menu, maybe they weren't. Could've been my mistake for overlooking it. However, the food was horrible and so was my impression of the cafe. I was just glad to get out of there. I REALLY wanted to like this place, as the previous ratings and photos looked great, my experience was far from pleasant here, and the food did not live up to the standards I was hoping for. I will not be back to this café, and I will let my family coworkers know about my experience here as well. I do not recommend this place for authentic Greek or Mediterranean food at all. You must check this place out! My brothers and I were in Texas taking care a family business. Yelped for a good place for lunch and found this gem. Everything was delicious and the service fantastic. The Arabian coffee was strong and spiced and very very satisfying. My colleagues both enjoyed their gyro and falafel though I didn't try them myself. My one complaint with the place was the service. It was slow, inattentive, and the food did not come out at the same time. As I've only visited once, I don't know if this is the norm or if they were simply having an off day but beware that this is a possibility. If you like cheap, delicious, Mediterranean food - Hala Cafe is definitely worth a stop. Just make sure you save time in case the service is slow. And absolutely try the Arabian coffee! read more

I've done takeout here twice. I had falafel the first time and it was really good. The second time I ordered a gyro plate and the meat was pretty good but the hummus that came with it tasted rancid. I also was not too happy with the service. I was told my food would be ready in 15 minutes but it took more like 30 minutes and there was only one person in the restaurant.
