Idk what happened to this side of my head..

I came here because of a long overdue haircut and it just so happened my regular hair stylist was closed today. So I decided to be adventurous and try a new salon.... bad mistake.. Coming here, I had high hopes of finding someone that could cut short hair because of all the amazing reviews from Google and Yelp. The visit started off really well as everyone was super friendly. Not long after, the stylist introduced himself and asked what I wanted. He then proceeded to hand me off to someone that washed my hair. We had an ongoing friendly conversation that I throughly enjoyed however everything that came next just went downhill from there. The stylist had asked his apprentice to blow dry my hair prior to cutting it. My gut told me that any stylist that I've been to previously that needed to do that meant that they really didn't have much confidence nor experience with doing quick, detailed cuts. And unfortunately, I was right. I came in wanting to get rid of the shaggy semi-bowl cut I was sporting and the stylist said he knew what to do... However $72 + $14 tip later, my haircut looked almost identical to how I came in with. The only thing I could say I am happy with is the customer service and layers he gave me which made everything feel a lot lighter. But what I was unhappy about was having to pay 72 (which is more than most asian hair salons with director cuts) and ultimately still ending up with a helmet head. The side of my hair was also very crudely cut as it looked very choppy. I was open to trying a new style but apparently with short hair cuts, there's only so much you could do with it..? TLDR; Don't stray from your regular stylist.

My hair was long and draggy before but after this cut there's some added volume and style!

Recommended by a friend to check out this salon! Went in with a specific hair cut in mind and my stylist Andy definitely delivered! He was very communicative and friendly catering to my requests. On top of that the hair wash was amazing. You get a nice scalp and neck massage and honestly I'd come back just for that if I could!! After my cut, Andy gave me a nice curl. The price was 46$ (not including tax and tip) which I thought was on the higher end, but is definitely worth it considering how much service you're getting on top of the cut! Would recommend checking Hair Monet out and I will definitely be back!

I want to preface this review by saying that I'm quite particular with my hair and since moving to Chicago, I usually just wait until I'm back home to get my hair done. I've been getting my hair cut by Raymond at Hair Culture since grade 10 and I get my hair coloured by my friend, Olivia at Lisa Dinh. I've also had my hair coloured and cut in the past at NC Salon. Unfortunately, when I was back in town Hair Culture was closed and Olivia wasn't free. Since my schedule for the next 4 months was really packed in Chicago, so I started looking on Yelp for recommendations on where to get my haircut since it was starting to get knotted. Andy had a lot of great reviews on Yelp so I called in and he was able to fit me in the same day. Andy's ultra friendly and really tries to make you feel comfortable. I feel like he does have a preference to speak his native tongue vs English but he speaks both fluently. My appointment was for 2:30pm and I got there 2:15pm. He asked me what I wanted and then to sit tight for someone to wash my hair. It was 2:30pm and no one was available to wash my hair - so he washed it himself! He gave a my hair a really good wash and also gave me a really awesome head massage. I think the entire washing process was probably 20ish minutes. In regards to the cut, I really only cut my hair 1-2 times a year, so each time I get it cut I feel like I need to cut off at least 1-2 inches to get rid of all the unhealthy ends. My hair also grows really slowly... like maybe max 5 inches in a year and I've spent the last 3 years growing it. So I requested a 2 inch trim and layers for the body of my hair with a V-shape in the back and my bangs to hit below my chin. I also asked if there's anyway he could cut it or style it such that I don't get a cowlick at my hair part. After reflection, I asked for another inch shorter just to make sure I got all the unhealthy ends. I forgot that 3 inches to me is very different to a hairstylist hahaha. Andy started cutting my hair with a razor - which is something I'm not really a fan of because it makes my hair ends look frizzy (I have very thin hair) and I heard it's not that healthy for your hair. After cutting with the razor it looked like about the right length I wanted but afterwards he went in and cut some more with scissors. I wasn't really 100% what hairstylists do when they cut hair so I didn't really say anything thinking it was the styling/layering part of the haircut... which in hindsight I should have said something. After cutting with the scissors, I think my hair was about 6 inches shorter than when I walked in. By the time I realized my hair was so short, my right half was already short and nothing could be done (unless my left side was left asymmetrical). I was really disappointed since the balayage colour I got from Olivia was not as apparent as before since the lighter portion of my hair got cut off (and might be crazy but I feel like my hair colour changed after the wash too?). In regards to the layering, it looks more sectioned than I'm used to vs the gradual changes in hair length that I'm used to getting from my normal hairstylist. It's possible that my hair has to 'grow into the cut'. Overall, the haircut wasn't terrible and I think other people would really enjoy getting their haircut here. Personally, next time I'm getting my haircut, I'm going to wait/stick with Raymond (Hair Culture) since I'm used to his cutting process, like the way my hair grows with the cut, and I'm able to comment on something before it's irreversible since I know his cutting process. I also got a lot of compliments for my hair in the past - but since my cut at Hair Monet, I've gotten comments about my hair but they weren't compliments... I think I'm just very disappointed and sad about the lost length of my hair and the waste of my balayage colour that I had done previously. I might have to look into some extensions in the meantime. PS: If you pay by cash, tax is discounted. If you pay by credit, tax is charged but he asks how much you want to tip him before he puts it into the system which made me feel a little weird.

    Cut with highlights

They were super nice and welcoming! One of the ladies even made sure I was warm and covered me with towels when I was getting my hair rinsed. They take their time to ensure that the quality is good and they don't rush their work (even though it was 11 pm and i was the last customer) and that was very much appreciated. Andy was my stylist and he made sure I was safe in my car before heading back inside. Total for cutting my hair and redying the base darker along with highlights was $300 without tips :)

I got a haircut today with Andy, and both the customer service I received and the actual hair cut were exceptional.

You would be surprised how many salons/stylists out there say they're confident in managing textured Asian hair and really don't know what they're talking about. I have never left a salon fully happy. After a lot of research, I reached out to Morph on Yelp and decided to give them a try... And I've never looked back. I go to Peter and he will always be my go-to. He gives you insight on the condition of your hair, what kind of products you should use, and teaches you how to style your own hair at home to make it easy for you to upkeep. He also recommended styles that fit with my hair's texture and length, and what looks best for my face. I like that they also don't oversell you on the products they use - they know the products they have are on the more expensive side. The service you get here is great - there's someone to help take your jacket and put it away, and the brief head massages you get while they wash your hair is heavenly! I've referred so many friends and family members here and they've all left happy!

The mocha we ordered was delicious, adequate in chocolate notes paired with espresso. I want to say that the drinks were the highlight of my experience here. They have a few special menu items, like the unagi pizza - which I found was not the best in terms of taste. I can't pick out exactly what it is, but something on there wasn't to my liking. Either way, interesting menu item to try. To finish off, I ordered some cotton candy for my sister. I was disappointed that they said they ran out of the paper cones/sticks for the cotton candy, so they offered it to me in brown paper bags. Booking an appointment was super fast and easy with their online booking system. I like how they have the prices listed there too so you have a good idea what to expect. My appointment was on a Saturday at noon and it was decently busy. I was a little hesitant to try this place because I find it difficult to find places that can cut the style I want on my asian hair. But I was greeted nicely and was attended to right away. The shampoo with head massage was soooo good and relaxing! I almost fell asleep. Definitely one of the best I've had at a hair salon. For the haircut, I had Vivian. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and said I wanted to chop off quite a bit so my ends could be healthy. She listened to what I wanted and recommended some ideas since what I said I wanted wasn't exactly like the picture I showed. You could tell Vivian paid a lot of attention to detail and made sure everything was even and how I liked it. Overall, I liked my hair cut and the price was fair. Staff were attentive and friendly. Lots of street parking was available and the place was easy to find. Glad I found a new place for a hair cut!
