I've been coming here for the past 6-7 years and have been exclusively seeing Rose for all my hair needs. It's been nothing but amazing - when I first started seeing her I had terribly long hair with damaged ends due to box dying my hair at home and she was able to help me fix it while allowing me to have a light ashy brown colour - all without bleach! I've been consistently going back for the same colour with root touch ups and hair cuts, each time being amazing! Rose is super friendly and has been nothing but an amazing stylist for myself and many of my friends who I've recommended to go to Soras read more

I went to get my hair done and turn it into grey three weeks ago. The stylist said I need to bleach it again (i bleached my hair at home three times) then I agree. I didnt realize that she did a poor job until i got home. The outer part looks yellow, the inside part looks so purple. Uneven. Keep that in mind I was asking for GREY colour. Then I decided to complain and came back a week after. She agrees to fix my hair with no charge. As she should. At this time, she got it right. My hair looks darker and grey on the bottom. Just like what I was looking for. THEN AFTER A WEEK (I went there for a second time on Aug 24, today is Sept 1), my hair looks so yellow. I even used purple shampoo just like what the stylist suggested but the colour is gone. I literally spent $320 (+ my time) for nothing. So disappointed. read more

This salon literally deserves 0 stars to be honest. I decided to go here since the reviews were so good. I decided to get an appointment for treatment since my hair was damaged. I live 30 min. Away from this salon. So when I went there the hair stylist told me that my hair was very damaged and that I needed a treatment ASAP. So I was like ok. So she added some mask and serum to my hair, combed it, and washed it. Then she blow dried it and ironed it for me. At first it looked and felt fine. After I got out, my hair started becoming very frizzy and felt even more damaged than it was before. It also became very brittle. So all she did was equivalent to washing my hair and messaging it nothing less. Even I could do this without all the fancy things and get better results. Oh and I had to pay $80 for my hair to become trash and tipped her $5 and she didn't even seem happy it was like she wanted more. Overall don't get tricked by the reviews and never ever go there. P.S. oh while I was there a man got a haircut and he didn't seem happy either so don't go there PLS!!!! read more

I have been this place for like 10+ times and this time was awful. I always didn't have stylist preferences because I think they all have good services, but I was wrong. I asked for a men's haircut and It was a new stylist (someone I've never seen her before, I should have asked her name). The stylist was very rude, in terms of the cutting style she provides. She seemed very busy and rush which made me feel she tried to complete my services within a few minutes. Unlike other stylists who would cut your hair in a gentle and soft way, she just applied a lot of power and make you feel she was in rush. SHE EVEN MADE ONE OF MY PIMPLE BLEEDING. I guess she didn't pay enough attention to what she was doing. When she was washing my hair, the water was cold initially and she never asked me how I feel about the water. After I paid the bill, I asked to speak to a manager and they didn't seem to have one which was another thing I wasn't satisfied. You should have someone at least in charge...I said my complaints to them directly and the stylist said nobody had complained about her before, I was like are you trying to say it was my fault... Please train your employees and make sure they understand how to provide good services. Overall, it was a bad experience and I agree they have some good stylists, but just keep in mind that they also have some bad stylists, at least one. read more

Located on the same block as the Maya Hair Salon, Sora's is another great option for a budget haircut in Koreatown. The wash, cut, and blow-dry took about 30 minutes, and at this price point, it was a great deal. Much appreciation to Rie, a Japanese stylist who is quick, professional, funny, and friendly, too. Tip: Make reservations! But if you're like me and you have haircuts spontaneously, you may have to wait. But no worries: if you do, go get a freshly-made, crispy, red-bean-filled taiyaki snack at the P.A.T. grocery store. Highly recommended! read more

I came here for the first time last week, it was a spontaneous decision and I wanted to cut my hair short for the first time in many many years. I was searching up on Yelp and decided to come here despite the recent bad reviews. Considering my visit, I would definitely come back and recommend! The stylist (starts with E.. I'll update my review once I find her business card!) was so welcoming and friendly! I was a bit concerned that it would go badly. But she understood my very vague description of what I might be looking for, patiently went over some brain storming phases with me as well. The whole process (consulting/hairwash/haircut/simple styling at the end) only took less than 45mins. Moreover, she did tell me about some hair treatment methods (they have products on sale for holiday seasons) BUT she was not pushy about their products which I totally liked! Ended up buying a small something anyway because I enjoyed her service so much! They only take debit/cash. I called on the day of to book an appointment. They ended up taking me in 15mins earlier than the time scheduled which was awesome since I got there early and was just waiting. My long hair costed $45 which is a very reasonable price. I recommended it to my friends right away. read more

Worst haircut in my life. Horrific experience. Had to go to another salon immediately after to fix it. Friendly but absolutely no understanding how to cut men's hair. No rinse/shampoo before the cut - I had product in my hair and the stylist forced the comb through leading to a painful and uneven cut. When I asked to fix the issues, she said there wasn't any problems. I left looking like a hacksaw had been used. Run away if you value your hair at all. read more

Sora the owner is miles away from being a professional hair dresser, she doesn't listen to you and is extremely rude and unprofessional. She has anger issue and told me that the reason she is treating me bad is because I called too early. and she went on bragging about herself and putting down her employee Minoo and saying all the bad reviews are because of her. Nasty! read more

I really wanted to like this place. Sadly, my first experience (yesterday) was not a very good one. I found out about Sora through a Google search for student budget-friendly and good hair stylists in Toronto and this turned up. For reference: I've previously cut my hair myself, had my aunt cut my hair, gone to several shacks in China Town, been to Seefu and Maya. It's not much but enough to benchmark off of. First of all there was no safe place for my belongings. She just told me to put my bag down next to the door with no one watching over it. I told my stylist that I wanted two inches trimmed and to freshen up my layers. Communication was difficult because the stylist I had was not confident with her English. I came home with 3 inches trimmed and chunky rough cut ends. No layers. Needless to say, I was not very happy with my experience. This was quite possibly the worst haircut I've ever had. Despite my poor experience, I think the salon is not all that bad. The stylists are probably hit or miss. I observed the other stylists at work while getting my hair done and the other stylists were very delicate and careful. The person that I got (a very beautiful Korean lady with long curly dark brown hair who didnt even bother to tell me her name) was a brute. She yanked at my hair and cut chunks of hair at a time and did not layer my hair when I asked her to. From reading the other reviews, I'm pretty sure Sora's stylists are hit or miss. All in all, if you're willing to take your chances I think it's an alright salon. read more

I've been going to Maya for years now but decided to try Sora when my 5th stylist left. I don't think I'm very picky with my hair but nobody wants to see a new stylist every few visits. Anyway, Sora was on the same block and was actually a couple of bucks cheaper ($15 for men). I decided to bring the whole family for a trim when I found that they charged a very reasonable $10 for boys (I have two) without a wash (my wife paid $30). Maya wanted the full $17 for kids!?!? Anyway, everyone liked their cut and they were able to accommodate all 4 of us in about an hour. The best part for me was that I got a cut from Sora (the Salon's namesake) so I think she'll be around for a while :D The 5 stars is based on the value of the Salon. I'm not comparing it to a $100 cut in Yorkville. read more

I usually get my hair cut here. Despite being in Korea town, the staff is Japanese. They are usually busy (good sign) but I can usually get a haircut without making an appointment by showing up and waiting a few mins. The owner rules with an iron fist (although she is delightfully polite/happy!) There are 4-5 female staff and 1 male stylist too. The salon is pretty nice inside (and clean) considering it is a low cost hair salon. (A wash, cut and style only cost me $28). I've showed up before just to have my bangs trimmed and they only charged $5. Very decent. Patrons are mostly asian but there are some whiteys like me who go. English is spoken, not great, but definitely enough to discuss/understand what you want done with your hair. read more

Who gets a haircut while on vacation? Me! If you are an Asian gal/guy who lives in a city where there are no Asian hair salons, you can probably relate. Our hair isn't forgiving at all; need a specialist. Anyhow, I decided to swing by Korea Town, hoping to get a much-needed haircut. Luckily this salon accepted walk-ins, and my hair stylist, Miyuki, took a good care of me. I got both the hair color and haircut done just the way I wanted, for a very reasonable price. I believe some of the hair stylists were Japanese and some are Korean. I had no problem communicating with my stylist in English though. The salon looked clean as well. (I've seen a lot worse in California where I used to live.) Maybe I just need to cross the border on a regular basis for a haircut... From Pittsburgh, Toronto is closer than New York City, after all. :P read more

I just walked in without an appointment or anything because I was feeling spontaneous and decided to chop off all of my hair. I originally wanted it much shorter than what they actually cut, but apparently the know better and the style the cut for me suits my face very well! Overall great but nothing exceptional stood out for me so I'll give it a 4/5 for now. read more

I've been trying to find a new hair stylist that within my budget (student rich) after being out of Canada for three years. While I was overseas I had the 'brilliant' idea of dying my hair blonde. It was a mistake, which I've been trying to grow out for almost 2 years now. So I needed someone who could actually take care of my hair. When I got to this place (Friday afternoon) it was pretty empty and they served me straight away. Not only did she do a great job of cutting my hair, but she gave me great suggestions as how I should have my hair done and how to manage my damaged hair. She also showed me how much damaged hair I have left and gave me a few tips for that as well. And for a wash and cut, it only cost me $30! It was really a great experience and I'll definitely be back! read more

Been here about 3 times now and I love it! Stylist Miyuki is meticulous and a sweetheart. English isn't her first language but I show her pictures of what I have in mind and she delivers! $30 for a shoulder length haircut.. one of the best deals in town! 1 hour free parking in side streets and plenty of paid parking along Bloor and parking lot outside west exit of Bathurst Station. read more

After a horrible experience with Ruffles Hair Design (see other review for a nightmare story!) I walked into Sora that same day and they made room for me right away! I am white and from other reviews that I've read I understand that this is a Korean salon with mostly Japanese stylists. And, like I've read in other reviews, despite some obvious language barriers, the stylists really take their time to listen to what you want. GREAT PRICES TOO! My cut was $35 plus tip and I have very long hair. My only complaint would be that my stylist cut my hair dry but I believe that's normal in Japanese salons (? correct me if I'm wrong). I probably should have asked him to wet it first but after he had cut it he asked if I wanted a shampoo. Also, when I said I wanted my ends thinned out, he thinned out my whole head of hair a little too much but again, I should have spoken up. Overall, for the price and the very nice cut with a few minor things I would have changed AND the fact that they fit me in so quickly for a walk-in I would say Sora is a good place to go! read more

What you pay is what you get. So if you are looking for a fancy haircut, not your place. But if you are short on cash and want to keep your hair cut and just have some trim maybe this is your place. Good luck read more

It was easy to make an appointment. I got Eri as my stylist, and she's great! I was able to communicate with her as to what I wanted, and she would give me recommendations as to what I should and shouldn't do with my hair. I loved the end product, and she was friendly and easy to talk to. I was charged $35 for a women's cut, and it was $20 for men's. My boyfriend got Kisa as his hairstylist. Her English wasn't too great, and even with photos, she couldn't fix it into the way he wanted his hair to be (I.e. having a line in the haircut, or a hard part). As for the fading part, the salon doesn't have 0.5cm clipper, which is what my boyfriend usually gets. I think house hairstyle at the end looked fine, but he thought it could be better. I would definitely recommend Eri! read more

Sora Beauty Salon - Haircut by Eri~ - Hair Salons Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I have terrible fine limp hair. The most expensive stylist on earth cannot make my hair look good. It simply is not possible. So I am thrilled to have found a place where I can get my haircut for a reasonable price. I've been twice and will continue to go back. I had a different stylist each time, and each was lovely and attentive, and both cuts and styles were as good as the $65 - $75 cuts I've gotten in the past. If I walked out of a salon feeling as though my hair looked great, it might be worth paying more, but that's not about to happen, and I've given up trying. Sora is the best cost/result balance I've found yet. read more

Ombre requested.. Came out too brassy and she did not do my roots well at all. Have had much better jobs done elsewhere at a cheaper price. Won't be back. read more

I go to Sora regularly now but my most recent trip is more worthy of a review. I placed an appointment for hair colour, although I didn't know specifically what I wanted. My hair stylist was Rie (as I always book her). She's very sweet and isn't scared to make conversation, which I was gladly surprised as language barriers are prevalent with Japanese/Korean hair salons. It doesn't mean we were talking non-stop but we weren't in complete silence, either. I've dyed my hair a red colour in January which had halted to an orange-y colour with very noticeable black roots, so I took it to Rie to help me figure out which I should go with; all black, or just root touch-up. She generously suggested I should dye my roots as my hair/I wouldn't look so heavy with black. The whole process from sitting down to paying at the counter was roughly an hour, which I felt was accurate since I wasn't doing my whole head, nor was I getting a haircut. I don't know if it's custom to, but I like the fact that she styled my hair the way it was when I came in. My total was $65 (I think tax included), which then became $75 with tip (I was more than pleased with the results!). I have a little more than shoulder-length hair. All in all, I recommend this salon to anyone who wants to try a Japanese hair stylist and I feel their first experience with one will be satisfying at Sora. TIP: With all hair salons, always get a quote of what you'd be paying for what you want. They do walk-ins and usually it's a 5 to 10 minute wait as I never really been to Sora on a busy/booked day. read more

Unassuming salon from the outside, but quite spacious inside, with 3-4 stylists working, and also well-kept. I booked a last-minute appointment over the phone, as they were able to schedule me in the evening with whichever stylist was available. I got my hair washed and cut with Eddie. He told me he was trained and worked in Korea as a hair stylist. He didn't speak much English but I showed him a photo and he was able to give me the cut I wanted. I asked for a few inches to be cut off, for long layers with blunt/straight ends, and for my thick hair to be thinned out. It wasn't exactly to my liking, at first, but I always give haircuts a few days or a few washes before I decide whether it was a good cut. After a few washes and styling it myself, the cut has held up, so thumbs up there. Story-time: I have a lot of hair so when Eddie was washing and cutting it, he would make a lot of funny jokes. While working on my hair I could almost hear his exasperated sighs and him looking around at his colleagues with a look on his face that said "Are you seeing what I'm seeing? This is A LOT (TOO MUCH) hair." Yeah, even I think it's too much! Something to note: Though at the beginning he said the cut would be $40, when I went to pay, the receptionist told me they had to increase the price of the cut due to the thickness of my hair. Even though I understand, that rubbed me the wrong way. Better to mention that at the beginning... Something else to note: Wash: 5-10 minutes Cut: around 20 minutes Style (a blowout): 20-25 minutes Overall, it was a pretty good experience! Definitely worth a try! read more

I came because a friend of mine got a nice cut here. It looked busy but I only had to wait a few minutes. The stylist was very quick and came pretty close to the example pic I'd shown her. If you're a guy and If you like the feather cut ( messy layered cut ) hairstyle, Sora is probably a good place for you. They have loads of japanese magazines full of those style and you know what, for the $15 ( compared to $35 -$50 to$100 or maybe more ) the results are just as great - believe me I've paid those money for a salon before. Many turn their nose up just because these guys are japanese and Korean ( NOT Toni & Guy staff ) but they're just as good. read more

I had my second haircut here and the experience was pretty good. I love coming here especially this time! I didn't have my regular girl but was asked if a girl who is free when I come in. It was definitely a right girl that I needed! Her name is Makiko. I was trying to find a salon in DT after I moved here. Usually I go to Kamiya, which is great by the way. But the thing is, I need a haircut TODAY and the only stylist available at Kamiya is someone I don't know.. So after a bit of research, I went to Sora. It was GREAT! I had Rie, who is a very experienced and friendly. And she has no problem communicating in English. And the price level is great, $30 incl wash and it's after tax. So yes, I would recommend it. read more

It was the most horrible experience I ever had. Sora was the one who dyed my hair. It was my first time bleaching and dying hair in a salon. I told her that I really hate yellowish gold or anything that's close to gold. I asked for a natural gradient colour from top my original hair colour to light grey purple. However, it turned out nothing close to it at all, and became the most un-natural black to gold, pink colour. It just looks like I haven't dye my hair for months. So I asked her to replace my current hair to anything other than gold, pink, and she said I need to pay extra $80 to do so, but the result still looks horrible. I didn't expect I spent $400 in a salon can still get this kind of result. I will never ever come back again. read more

As much as I would love to give a good review, honestly $115 and 2 hours later my first experience with full hair coloring resulted in 'could have done it with a $11 bucks box from the pharmacy. My hair is barely to shoulder and reddish purple was what I went for. I got a slight reddish purple on my left side first layer of hair only. Stylist said it will lighten over time which I doubt and I didn't want to see colour only under the sun. If it lightens then I'll change my rating. read more

I got a haircut here by Rie a couple weeks ago. I originally wanted to book an appointment at Maya but my go-to stylist wasn't available on my preferred day. I decided to give Sora/Rie a try since I've heard good things from friends about her. Rie is extremely friendly and very pleasant to talk to. They have a closet which shelves inside in which you can store your belongings. This part I liked much better than Maya, where you'll have to put your things at the chairs by the door - not safe. I wanted a shoulder-length bob. My hair is very thick so I always ask to have it thinned and layered. Rie didn't do the best job on that. My hair ended up being shorter than I would have liked (though they do grow back eventually) and I feel she didn't thin/layer my hair very much. I was okay with the final result, but definitely expected better. The price is a bit cheaper here than Maya. At Maya, cut + wash is $35 for ladies, whereas it's $30 for ladies cut + wash here. read more

I came in for a japanese straight perm. I have gotten my hair permed a few times at J. J. Hair Salon near Yonge/Steeles but the last time I was there, my hair ended up being completely fried so I vowed to never go back. My first time at Sora I was completely blown away. My hairdresser, Kisa, was incredibly gentle and thorough with my hair. She recommended that I only perm half of my hair seeing that my permed ends were very dry. She made the recommendation even though it would cost less. She really took her time with the entire perm and was patient. Service was just phenomenal. The tea was quite welcome as well. The process is different from the perm I received at J.J., where they apply heat to my hair. There was no heat involved, just different rounds of chemicals. Overall, I paid $200 for the perm + tip. It is a bit more expensive than J.J., but now 2 weeks after my perm, the results speak for itself. My hair is soft and straight and I am a very happy customer! Will be back for my next perm :) read more

Precise, skilled and friendly Japanese stylists work wonders for just $25! Despite the fact that English is their second language I haven't found it any harder to get my ideas across here than at any other salon. They have loads of hair magazines to look through and in fact, they seem to listen a bit more carefully than their hipster counterparts on Queen West. Even several weeks after a cut you'll still be impressed by how beautifully it falls. That's where their experience and attention to detail make a big difference. I'd continue to go to Eri at Sora even if they doubled their prices. read more
