I had a blonde balayage (level 8) that I they recommended I get toned for a refresh. But instead, it was darkened to a brassy, irreversible medium brown. The result is so overly warm, it looks dark orange. I was told it would just be a toner and would wash out, but that hasn't happened. Instead of a refreshed balayage, my hair now looks completely different--darker, dull, and way overly brassy. This is not what I asked for, and it has ruined the dimensional color I had. I look sickly with this orange hair and the only option I have is either to bleach my hair again and damage it or darken it to a dark brown with no dimension. Either way I'll be waiting months to a year to start over and get the look I've been working towards. With this, they are not apologetic and don't take accountability. Don't go here!! read more

I went to this place for a haircut, I wanted a traditional bob, I showed them photos and they told me there was no problem. Amber mutilated my hair. When I informed the manager that my hair was ruined, she told me not to cut it anymore. She told me to leave or Amber would finish the cut. Tears of despair and despair came out of my eyes. My hair was completely ruined. I waited a week until someone could cut it even more, my hair was half 4 cm long, how could they cut it more, it's the worst place I've ever been to, don't ever go, my confidence is on the floor and my self-esteem is down while they were laughing at me. read more

I had a really negative experience at this salon. I booked with Renee who I hoped could do a colour correction on my hair. I've never paid this much for a hair dye job in my life, and I was disappointed in both the results and the service. By the time I contacted the salon owner, I was not willing to go back to the salon and was hoping for a partial refund as a resolution but the salon owner was not helpful. The details: I wanted to go from an uneven ombre style to a silver hair colour. I spoke about this in detail with my stylist Renee who kept emphasizing the number of hours required for the transformation and the hourly rate (which was $100/hr). By the time I was in the chair for the appointment, Renee confirmed multiple times the look that I was going for. I said silver, okay with it being a darker gunmetal silver... I got a dark ash brown colour with highlights. While it was a professional hair transformation, it wasn't what I requested for. I was hoping after a few washes that it would lighten to a dark gunmetal silver, but it did not. Hair colour transformations can be difficult and expectations can be misaligned, which I understand. The one-star review is mostly for the awful service that I received. The stylist dropped the comb multiple times, flinging it around unprofessionally and got hair dye on my hands. When she washed my hair she got water in my ears and berated me for not being able to get my shoulder aligned to the chair (but this is because I'm short). My stylist was stand-offish the entire time and even yelled at another stylist for changing the radio station. The working environment seemed very toxic. I wanted to record the experience for my online blog, which my stylist agreed to initially. My recording phone was visible the whole time and she even actively participated in the video. She later decided she was uncomfortable with this, and instead of just asking me to turn off the camera, she threw a full-on 20-minute temper tantrum in the salon in front of other hairstylists and customers. None of the other hairstylists said anything about this, as if it's normal behaviour. I was mortified and wanted to leave immediately. After yelling at me, the stylist came back and apologized to me profusely. I still wanted to leave, but I was left with wet hair in the sink. I would never ever come back here. read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon. I found this salon off of Google, and given the great reviews, I thought I'd be in good hands. Initially I had booked an appointment with Shiva, and took off a vacation day in order to attend the appointment. Not even 48 hours notice I get a text message letting me know Shiva will not be coming in, and that a stylist name Kyle could accommodate my appointment. I came to this salon as a full blonde, and during my consultation I showed many photos of what I was looking to achieve (you can see in my photo what I had shown), which was to darken the blonde, while still having some warm blonde highlights throughout. He felt confident that it was doable, and showed me the toner (which is going over blonde highlights, and assumed that was the colour he was going to use for the low lights). He then gave me a waiver, which I felt was a red flag, basically saying they are not liable if they damage/mess up your hair, and you have to pay regardless. During the actual appointment, the stylist kept talking about his previous job, and how his boss would negatively comment on his clients photos regarding his work, and half way through the appointment he says out loud "I change my mind about the toner" and runs to the back, didn't show me what he changed, and at that point I started feeling like he didn't know what he was doing. As it was time to put the toner in, he left it in for 20 minutes. At other salons, they leave the toner in for max 5-10 minutes, while checking up on it frequently. He disappeared in the back for 20 min without really checking on how dark the colour was getting. When I see my hair, it was so tangled because he backcombed the highlights, and it was a solid ashy dark brown with not one blonde highlight to be seen (you can see the fine grey highlights in my photo). I started addressing my concerns, and then he then points the finger at me saying I signed off on the toner and this is what I asked for (even though he sporadically changed the toner without telling me what he changed). I showed multiple photos and have never experienced such a big mess up/miscommunication at any salon i've been to in Toronto. The colour wasn't even remotely close to what I asked for. I look to the stylist to know what to do when it comes to the colour I wanted. He then panics and puts some treatment in my hair to try and lift the colour, and then hides in the back while i'm sitting there for 20 min having a mental breakdown and on the verge of tears. The manager and other stylists saw and walked by me several times and chose to ignore me. Finally the manager comes to talk to me after 20 min, while I've been abandoned by their stylist. She basically told me the only option is for me to pay (no discount) because I signed a waiver and to come back a few days later and have the same guy who messed up my hair try and fix it. After this whole situation there was no way I was going back to him after this whole ordeal. At this point I just wanted to leave immediately. After I was charged full price with dripping wet hair which I probably paid for the blow dry, the manager says "skip over the tip part" which basically tells me she acknowledged that he messed up big time on my hair. She also told me to "dm her on instagram" if I had any questions, why not give me your card or personal cell phone, that's not the best way to treat a new client, that you messed up her hair. After I got home, luckily I was able to get a last min appointment at Lone & Co (shout out to George for fixing this mess on my head). I understand sometimes stylists may mess up from time to time, but the way that this situation was handled was very unprofessional. Manager should have been involved immediately, and a partial refund would have been appreciated, and giving your client the cold shoulder while my hair was ruined by one of your employees is unacceptable. I will never go back to this salon, and suggest you go somewhere else if you are thinking of going here. $200 flushed down the drain for an inexperienced stylist. read more

They take the time to determine the essential equation for great hair: your face shape + cool style + your colouring I have had one mildly disappointing colour experience at Fuss, but I feel like that was an anomaly. I've seen Jenny, Stacey and Michelle, and would recommend Michelle. Totally talented stylist, plus she's from New Zealand - very cool and chatty. Sometimes the wait for an appointment can be a few weeks, so book in advance. And watch the tab as you get your colour, cut, highlights, etc... the last time I got to the register it ran me $225+. I love a stylist who isn't afraid to tell me I'm wrong, who can use their hair-cutting powers to not-so-subtly influence me to do what they think I should do rather than what I, in my style ignorance, think I should do. I recently had a cut with Anastasia and she did exactly that - and the cut is fantastic. Exactly what I needed (not what I thought I wanted). Prices are pretty similar to what I'm used to paying elsewhere in Toronto. Booking was incredibly easy - the person I spoke to was both friendly AND helpful. I'm a last minute kind of gal, and often find that this is at odds with my hair whims, since so many places book up in advance. Not so at Fuss. I called on Wednesday and they fit me in on Thursday. Fantastic. The salon itself won my heart immediately with it's funky black and white tile entrance, chandeliers (I'm a sucker), textured wall paper, and lovely wood floors. They had just opened their upper floor when I was there, which appears to have doubled their space. Anastasia set me up with coffee and made sure I was able to sip on it whilst cutting my hair. Thrilled to find a great salon in my new hood. I will definitely be back - and next time I might even make the colour leap that Anastasia suggested. read more

The second that you walk into Fuss, you can feel the energy. That may sound like a cliche phrase, but I promise that it fits the studio PERFECTLY. Today was my first visit to Fuss, and certainly won't be my last. After hearing rave reviews, and needing my first haircut as a resident of Toronto I decided to go and check it out. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a smile, amidst the noise of scissors, sinks and chattering conversation. If you're not a conversationalist during your haircut, you definitely will not fully appreciate the people behind the scissors. I walked upstairs into a neat loft area, with just two chairs and a sink room, with next-level sinks which make you feel like you're in a spaceship. Seriously. I didn't take a picture because I was in a spaceship, okay?! It's intimate, funky and feels like you are miles away from everything. Dana is my stylist of choice after one visit. Cheerful, bubbly and a joy to talk to, the 45 minute cut went flying by like nobodies business. After a convoluted, non-technical and probably downright terrible attempt at describing what I was looking for, Dana simply said "Okay, so I think what you want to do is take this from Mad Men style to Boardwalk Empire. Right?" Boom. The girl gets me. Bravo. The cut was great, and quite reasonably priced for the great job and atmosphere. I definitely recommend Fuss to all, but you may have to fight me for a booking or two. It looks like it's tough to get a booking same-day or even next day... especially if you're picky with stylists! read more

It was so easy to book. The receptionist was very kind and helpful -taking my coat and offering me refreshments. The dogs are extremely cute and spiked collar puppy got in my lap and kissed me. Excellent first date! Meghan cut my hair and she made magic. She was sweet, TALENTED, and not chatty. She is very nice and if you're not looking to be too social (I'm quiet) she seems to have good intuition on people's preference. My hair is exactly what I wanted. It is fresh to death. LOVE their gender neutral rates which were surprisingly cheap. I've had ugly cuts for more $ than I paid here. She took me from long, verging on icky hair to short, messy SEX. I had a wonderful experience at Fuss. I got an appointment on the day and time of my choice, but I also booked two weeks in advance. The waiting time before the appointment was very short (less than 5minutes). Daniel cut my hair and he did an amazing job. He took the time during the consultation in the beginning to make sure we're on the same page and made some suggestions that turned out great! Washing, cutting, drying and styling (simple, as I keep it simple at home too) took about 40 minutes altogether. I was incredibly happy with the result when I walked out and weeks after I still am. I got my hair cut here in November before lockdown. Vada cut my hair and she was excellent! She gave me exactly what I was looking for and also provided helpful hair-care tips. In addition to this, I felt very safe while at the salon as they have invested in all the necessary protective measures/procedures (masks, plexiglass, physical distancing, etc). I started seeing Dana about a year ago. She is nothing short of amazing!! I see her almost every two months (my hair grows at an exponential rate and I have some grey which shows through my dark hair). Her energy is contagious. I honestly look forward to my hair appointment - not just for the transformation - but also because I can totally relax and laugh my butt off when I am there. The salon itself has funky decor...check out the bathroom on the second floor with old playboy magazine articles/ads used as wallpaper. So cool. Had my first haircut at Fuss last week - no complaints! Granted, it was just for a simple cut, so no room for scandalous coloring disasters here. However, Tracy managed to tame my lion mane (ok so maybe I don't go for hair cuts very often) into something manageable and thoughtfully personalized. She understood my 'low-fuss' tendencies. Also - evening appointments available! I find this super handy, as I live in the area and can quickly zip over after work. Conversation was fine, and not forced - which can be a real pet peeve of mine. As others have commented on, it's mildly on the pricey side compared to other places of similar quality. But I'm willing to overlook that given the pros. Fuss, you've converted me - I'm booked for regular appointments now. read more

Having been haunted by a bad, brassy dye job years ago, I swore off hair dye till I saw greys. Fast forward to the present, I had found a few pesky greys and was acutely reminded that life is too short for silly fears. I got a subtle balayage and cut here by Emily and at first it didn't quite hit the mark and I left disappointed, yet again swearing off hair dye. I called the studio and they were kind enough to amend it. Long story short, the second time around was bingo! It's been about two months and I still love my hair. I was very impressed and glad that I had finally found a local salon that was professional and affordable. I attempted for a week to make another appointment with Martha for this Saturday. No one every seemed to answer and would call back over a day later. By the time we spoke Martha was booked. I mentioned that I had to leave three messages to finally speak to a human. The receptionist laughed and said if I wanted it badly enough Martha was available at 9 a.m. I did not share her mirth. I woke up this morning with a terrible flu and called as soon as I could to cancel the appointment (just after 9 a.m) I had with someone else for this afternoon. I was told there was a 24 hour cancellation policy. Really? I was not told that when I booked. And to add insult to this ridiculous policy I was asked if I wanted to book another appointment and would be charged double for missing today's. Now there is some incentive to rebook. I have a very demanding job and a toddler. I would not have cancelled if I didn't have to but I will now not return as I was completely. insulted by how I was spoken to. I understand that you lose money with last minute cancellations. I also understand that if you are busy there are last minute bookings, especially on a Saturday. Restaurants tried this same policy and it failed. Such self-importance and stringent policies eventually always backfire. You have lost a client for good now and I will be sure to let others know of my experience. read more

So this was my first haircut at a more premium salon and I have to say that it was a great experience. I didn't have any idea what I wanted to do with my hair when I came in to see Kristin, but she was very understanding of my specific needs and she took her time to make me comfortable and informed before doing anything to my hair. The haircut itself looks fantastic and she was very open to curling my hair and messing around with it otherwise. Outside of the excellent results, Kristin was fantastic to talk to and answered any questions I had. Went in here today for a mens cut. Haircut was OK-good, but everything else was well below par. As I was having my haircut, the lady next to me was having her hair blow dried and the excess waff from the hairdryer started blowing my hair (fortunately it was not the other ladies hair) into my eyes / mouth - nothing was done to remedy the situation. Though I didn't make a fuss about it at the time (no pun intended) I was making pretty obvious non verbal signs that I was not having much fun - coughing, squinting, etc. Finished up the cut in about 30 mins which is fine, then walked down stairs and proceeded to wait for what felt like an eternity (but was in reality a solid 5 minutes) for the lady at the cashier to finish serving another client (who was simply paying not booking in for another appointment) - there were two other ladies who ended up behind me also waiting to pay. Would not go back or recommend to others. Not a lot wrong with the stylist though the faint smell of cigarettes when having one's haircut is not appreciated (a tad pricey, but I knew that already). Really need to work on making it a better overall experience for clients especially at those prices - details matter. Also, as a side, the acoustics upstairs are terrible and not very amenable to be able to hold much of a conversation. Should be a relatively easy thing to fix - but should be done sooner rather than later. read more

I went in to have my highlights done, and the stylist did a great job. She was also quite lovely to talk to. She asked if I was getting a cut that day as well. I said I hadn't booked it and was actually only looking for a little trim because I'm trying to grow out my layers. At the end of the appointment she spent about five minutes trimming my ends and bangs - just getting rid of the dead ends. When I got to the cash register she charged me for a full hair cut - $60. Also the highlights were $110 - but when I booked my appointment highlights were listed at $90 on their website. In the week between booking and getting to the salon for my appointment they decided to raise their prices by $10. Then she also charged me $10 for toner...also not mentioned. So, I was not planning on spending $220 that day. My fault for not clarifying between the prices of a trim and a full-on haircut, but I would've hoped that after charging me $110 for highlights she would have thrown in the trim - or charged me a lesser rate, maybe $10 or $20 for the trim. Not sure if I will go back. When I questioned the cost they just explained all the breakdowns of the pricing with no apology. I'm happy with my highlights and the place has a great vibe, but I'm not certain if what I got was worth $220 (with tax and tip). read more

I first started seeing Emily at World Salon and followed her to Fuss when she moved to the salon in the fall. I've been a loyal fan of Emily for years because I like to take risks with my hair, and she's always up for doing something different. I like that she keeps up-to-date with the latest hair trends and isn't shy about telling me the looks I can and can't pull off. After wearing a platinum blonde asymmetrical undercut for over a year, we're now trying out a lavender-coloured bob, and I get tons of compliments. read more

I'm writing because first off, I want to say I love going to fuss, it is not snobby but is still stylish, they give me a nice hair cut and all in all it's a great experience going there. Also, i saw in a previous review that someone didn't enjoy their experience with Martha - just wanted to mention that when I go there I ASK for Martha - she's great! She's friendly, warm, and I completely trust her to do what she wants with my hair. I can't imagine her being unfriendly to anyone, and I have to say that I think she must have just been having a really bad day, or (more likely) the reviewer had a bad attitude - it sounds like he didn't even really want to go there in the first place because it's not downtown...but just "settled" for it.
