Pretty disappointing experience during my most recent visit to Civello Uptown location. I expected to come in for a relaxing hair appointment and come out feeling great and instead I got stressed and so upset I left basically in tears. I first made a hair cut appointment with Kimi last Friday, who did a nice job with my cut. I liked how she did the layering. I also made a hair colour appointment on Tuesday with Laura. I wanted to do a dark purple tint and had a bit of balayage from my last hair colour. I came with a pic of my ideal colour and said I didn't need it to be vibrant..just a tint where I can see purple would be fine. I was aware if I wanted it more vibrant I would have to bleach and make another longer appointment. So we agreed to just put dye over my old balayage. However, this is when my experience turned sour. I arrived after commuting well over 1hr by uber to salon. Only to find out that their water is not working. They said they only found out a bit over 10 minutes before my appointment so they did not call me. I was not too happy but understood that things happen and they did offer to uber me to their Rosedale location or reschedule and comp my appointment. I still really wanted to get the hair dye though. So they just dyed and hair dried in uptown salon but washed my hair at the blo bar salon nearby. When I was getting my hair dried I discovered that my hair is much more red than purple. Horrified, I wanted to get it redone. It was more burgundy than purple with a lot more red tones to it. Laura failed to tell me that my hair had warm undertones already in it and that it would bring out more red in my hair. I was not prepared to see so much red. I rescheduled with Rachel to get a hair toner or gloss. She explained about the warm undertone and said if she added blue toner or gloss it might tone out the reds but she would not be sure how it would turn out. She was super nice about it but her uncertainty made me change my mind and not do it. She was sorry I was so disappointed about the colour and just recommended I wait till it fades and do a colour correction at cost. So now I have paid for a hair colour I dont want and need to spend more money to get it fixed. Like it is not a hideous colour but it is not want I wanted or paid for. So everytime I look in the mirror I get upset. Overall, I have never been so disappointed after a hair appointment. I wanted to feel nice and left feeling upset. There was also another person at reception who was not that friendly either. She had brown hair tied up in a bun and wore glasses. She kind of gave me some curt looks and responses. Even Laura was there and saw me but did not even say anything to me. Side note, a collegue of mine was suppose to see Laura for a hair cut but the client she had before had to get their hair fixed due to a mistake Laura made and my coworker was left waiting for 40 minutes after her appointment time. She ended up being passed over to a higher up staff member. Just very unimpressed. I do not recommend Laura. If you go to this location anyways, try Rachel or Kimi UPDATE - After calling the salon, I was offered a full refund, which was very appreciated. However, I don't think I will return anytime soon. I feel like they could have dealt with my situation better. Everytime I think of this location it now just brings back bad memories. read more

PURE THEIVES! We were denied a refund for 2 gift cards of several hundred dollars because we don't have the receipt. They were gifted to someone who died before they could even use it. read more

First, I love my haircut. The stylist did a great job and is exactly what I wanted in a cut. BUT... the balayage came out way to blonde and I expressed not liking it. Instead of coming up with a solution to tone it (they did not tone my hair) now I'm stuck looking like a tiger and it's more brassy than the dark honey that I wanted. I've been a loyal fan of Civello and used to frequent the Queen location for my hair needs until my stylist moved. I'm not happy with the outcome and will not be coming back for colour. read more

I was searching for a new hair salon last month and chose Civello based on its reviews and convenient location. When it came time to make my first appointment, I was impressed by the online booking system. It was easy to find a time that was available and that also worked with my schedule and I didn't even have to pick up the phone! I had my first cut with Dani and really enjoyed my visit. Civello has a relaxing atmosphere a good vibe. The massage, gentle shampoo,chit-chat, cut and cleanliness left me relaxed and feeling great. Will definitely be returning here when it's time for my next cut. read more

Just had my first experience at Civello and can I get a bigger WOW? I'm in love with my new hair!! I was first recommended to this location by my friend Becca, and with all the hype she gave to this place, I had to check it out myself! I used to only get my hair cut 1-2 times a year, so you can only imagine how long overdue it was for a snip. First impression, the place was clean and smelt amazing. Jesse was the one who cut my hair today, and he did an amazing job. I used to get the typical straight cut but this time, he added nice soft layers to compliment the shape of my face, while maintaining the length I wanted (which for some reason has always been the biggest struggle every time I visited other salons). The little massage they gave at the beginning was such a nice added bonus. Would definitely recommend and will be coming again soon! read more

I have been getting my hair cut and highlighted at Civello for more than 20 years. My favourite stylist moved overseas years ago, but regardless I have never been unhappy with colour or cut from any of their professionals over time. I get migraines, with one of the triggers being synthetic scents or heavy fragrance/cologne. Civello uses high quality Aveda products. I have never had an issue with their hair, skin or makeup products. I will only use Aveda on my hair. Years ago when I got married their head makeup person and my stylist, both from different locations, hopped into cabs to go to the uptown location to make it closer for me. Amazing. The uptown location is now my regular. Ana Christina (mat leave), Rachel and Kennedy are so great for me. My kid loves Jesse. Why not five stars? Over the years there have been some hiccups on the administrative side. Their systems have improved, but there remains room for improvement. read more

Andrea is a real artist. She does such a beautiful job on your colour that no one can even tell it's highlighted (it just looks amazing)! I also love that she takes care of your hair, making sure to recommend the best products and tips to get the most out of your colour. I could not recommend her more highly! Jesse is the best stylist! Not only is he incredibly talented, he's also such a nice guy. He always takes the time to give you the perfect blend of what you want and what you need. (I've recommended him to two friends who have both agreed!) 10 out of 10! Great salon - a calm and contemporary environment. Check it out for yourself! read more

I have been twice. The first time I had highlights. The girl was nice and did a good job. But when it was done and washed out and dried she was nowhere to be found. She didn't ask if it was ok or if I liked it, etc. I regret leaving her a good tip, because she obviously didn't care. It was overpriced as well. The second time I went back because they gave me a $25 off coupon for my next visit. A different girl did my highlights. They got washed out and dried and I looked at my hair. NO different! The highlights didn't work at all. She said the room was too cold so they didn't set. She offered to do it again, so I stayed for another 90 minutes (because I have nothing else to do?!?!) and she bleached it this time - I could smell it and feel it. They worked. However now my hair had been processed twice, and it's about 2 weeks later now and my hair feels like straw. Also, the first round she put equally all over my head. The second batch she rushed and just threw a few in the front. So my bangs are practically white and the back of my head is light brown. It looks ridiculous. I'm not happy at all. She gave me an extra $25 discount for the trouble, but it still came out to $150! Craziness. Also, the receptionist was rude. She offered me tea and then never brought it. Not great service. I will not return and I will not suggest this place to anyone else. What a disappointment. read more

Update: I did go back for a colour appointment even though I was disappointed with my last colour visit (more on the service end than the actual colour part). I had Vanessa this time and she was fabulous. I had a vague idea of what I wanted and she was very honest with me in regards to what would work and what would not and the reasons why. She even brought out the ipad to look at colours so we knew exactly what the end product would be! Her suggestion was bang on and my colour looks great..nicely blended in, natural as you can get. I love it. read more

So after getting my hair ruined at another salon, a friend of a friend recommended Civello. She said she had tried every salon in Toronto and this was THE best for color and cut. I was apprehensive at first- The last time I took someone else's recommendation, my long caramel locks were dyed dark brown with a purple-y red hue and short bangs. So, I made an appointment with Kelley for color and Veronica for cut. They both came and consulted with me, and they seemed to understand my desired result. Well i walked out one happy puppy! My brown-ish violet hair was highlighted into a shimmery honey brown, the cut left my hair full of body but with the length intact. Veronica styled my hair in these gorgeous lucious curls and tons of volume. Woo! read more

Best.Salon.Ever!!!! I was pretty desperate when I went into Civello. Hated my current no shape hair cut and faded colour (not done at Civello). Emily and Laura have performed their magic and now I can look at myself in the mirror again! They listened to what I wanted, constantly checked up with me and even let me know what may or may not work for my hair and face! Exactly what I needed! So professional and knowledgeable! I've been to other Civello locations in the past (same lovely experience) when I lived nearby. Now I'll gladly endure the commute. No other salon beats their standard. I'm more than satisfied and can't wait to go again! read more

I've been coming to Civello to have my hair cut for years and wouldn't change it for anywhere else. I usually book based on the times that work best for me which means I don't have a particular stylist that I stick to. That said, every cut I've had has been beautiful!! Both the senior and junior stylists do exceptional work. The staff are excellent, well trained, listen to your requests, and provide very helpful input. I've never had a stylist who couldn't produce exactly what I asked for, even if it was a challenging cut. The location is very clean and sleek and they do an excellent job of keeping it tidy and swept. The experience is always great. Their beverage options are awesome even though it can sometimes be awkward to drink while getting your hair done lol. The head and neck massage they give you before is always very relaxing and enjoyable. I also cannot get over how amazing the Aveda products they use smell!! I would absolutely recommend going to Civello, as you will have a great experience and walk away with stunning hair! read more

I had a booking for Makeup with Jade as well as a Cut and Style with Rachel. The booking agent helped time my visit to get me out the door in time for my event. I went to Rachel first then onto Jade upstairs. Both ladies put me at ease at straight away. Everyone I encountered in the salon was warm and welcoming. Rachel listened to my intended direction and asked me about my daily routine taking into consideration how much effort I'd be putting into my hair every morning. It has been a few weeks and my hair still falls flawlessly. As she cut she gave tips on care and product use. She is super focused with her hand and worked efficiently. The hair wash and scalp massage was dreamy. I can't wait to have Rachel work with my hair again and I am planning my next visit! Jade. Jade has this calming presence. She floats around you her magic brushes and tender hand. As someone who rarely wears make up she educated me on what I should be looking for with my skin tone and did an audit on my make-up bag habits letting me know what keeps and what goes off. Jade is very aware of your personal space and comfort level and she reassured then explained patiently her process. The end look she created was beautiful. I highly recommend Jade. read more

I came here a few months ago and forgot to post a review, but I just wanted to talk about how thankful I am that Dani saved my hair! I am a natural blonde and box-dyed my hair red, but wanted to go back to my normal colour by adding a few highlights that would still look natural. Dani was phenomenal, took so much time to thread the highlights through my bangs and the front of my face, and to this day the highlights still look wonderful! She also styled my hair and made it look awesome, and I received so many compliments from everyone working at the uptown location. It was overall a wonderful experience and I will be back! read more

A very disappointing experience at this salon where I was first met with a very rude hairdresser who placed a cream on my face that burned my skin. After this, she slapped on the hair colouring. I was doing my roots and her application method was harsh and sloppy. So much so that I had dye all over my temples and cheeks. The product used to clean it off afterwards (they rubbed very hard to remove) was not good at all for my skin. In every corner of the salon, I saw dust balls of hair, including along the window panes and mirrors. I was shocked at how unclean the salon was as I have had experiences at Aveda salons all over the world and never once had an experience of such a sub standard caliber. As I was in a rush, I was too flustered to complain. My instinct was to leave quickly instead of saying something on the spot. I regret this now however I would discourage others from using the services of Civello and plan to write to Aveda headquarters so that this complaint does not go unnoticed. read more

Went to get my hair done at the uptown location by Monica (junior stylist)... super nice but same results that I get at home but paid $95!!!

As I moved to Toronto just a few months ago, I was on the search for a new hair salon (I had been going to the same salon in Whitby for almost 10 years). I decided to get my hair cut at Civello after seeing a friend's instagram post of her new haircut (which she mentioned was done at Civello). I booked an appointment with a junior stylist (I believe there are 2 levels above junior, but the price increases with more experienced levels). When I got there, I was given a tour of the salon and was offered a beverage. I found out that the stylist who was scheduled to cut my hair had been working there for a month. I was a little skeptical, as before moving to Toronto, I had been going to a stylist with years of experience. The hair cut starts off with a scalp and neck massage, which I LOVE! Very relaxing. This was followed by a shampoo, blow dry and style (I chose to have it styled with a flat iron). She then cut my hair after it was styled (which I have had done before). I didn't want a major change; I just wanted the split ends cut off. She did a good job, but it's less than a week later and I can already see split ends after I flat iron my hair, which means she didn't cut off quite enough. This is a little disappointing, as I paid $56 (after tax) for only a trim, and it wasn't even done properly. Following the hair cut, you are given a free make up touch up. I chose to sample a lip gloss. Great product, but I chose not to purchase it as it was $22 (!). I was given a free sample of a hair product I had asked about, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a good experience. If I do return, though, I will likely book an appointment with a more senior stylist. read more

After having hair issues with my past colourist... I was hunting around for a new place. My first time here the colourist messed up my colour. I HATE complaining, but I did, as nicely as I could. They had it redone with a senior colourist for no charge. I ended up finding Noelia.. and she's done a fantastic colour job every time. I love that I can call pretty last minute and get an appointment within the next few days. read more

Best experience ever. Massage, tea, so much care, so worth while!

If you need brows or make-up Jade is your girl. I used to go to Jade at the downtown location but lucky for the mid-towners she is now at the Yonge location. Trust me when I tell you there isn't anyone in the city who does a better job and I have tried many places. I also got my haircut by Nicole for my first time and I was so happy! She totally listened to what I wanted and I walked out happy which is hard when it comes to hair. I will definitely be returning!!:-) read more

Really good for the money paid.

Rebekka is only the second hairstylist that I have ever had that actually knows how to cut my hair. And it's not like I have difficult or strange hair. It's straight and brown. But apparently, that's a challenge for most hairstylists and before Rebekka, I have hated almost every one of my cuts. I highly recommend her. And Civello...the head and neck massages are wonderful. The only reason I didn't give it a 5/5 is because sometimes the girls who wash my hair are pretty terrible - water in my eyes, ears and the water is either too hot or cold. read more

So glad I found this salon. I've been going here for about 6 months now and am so happy with my stylist, Noelia. She does exactly what I ask. The salon is clean and beautiful inside, and all of the staff are pleasant. I love the appointment reminder voicemails I get a few days before an appointment, and the free bang trims in between hair cuts. I have only been for hair cuts, have not had any colour done here. read more

I first came to Civello after being recommended by my sister, she experiences great cuts here but was unsure of how they would be at men's cuts. I was willing to give it a chance though. After a great first experience, I now go to Civello regularly. My regular stylist Brittany always does a great job with my cuts. Their Aveda products are ideal for styling and are of good quality I now go here about every 8-10 weeks and wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Kate Ireland at this Civello location is AMAZING! I lucked out when I got her on a recent trip to Toronto. It was my first haircut with her and she spent a lot of time with me before she picked up her scissors, wanting to see me in my street clothes and asking me about my style and life. I love, love, love my cut so much I can't wait to see her again in the spring when I am back in Toronto. A bit expensive, but with a cut this good you can go a lot longer between appointments. Worth the investment IMHO. Thanks so very much Kate!! read more

great hospitality and service. Was given a discount and they did a great job with the haircut. I went on short notice and still received a $25 discount for the hair cut. I ended up paying around $20 including tax. I was surprised that it costs me that low for such a great service. The receptionist was nice and friendly i got a hair cut from Brittany she was friendly and listened to what I wanted and gave me the perfect hair cut that I can maintain everyday. read more

I had my first visit to the salon yesterday and I was happy with the outcome. The staff are sincere and very kind. Im a muslim woman who wears hijab so they accomodated for me by asking me to come on Tuesday morning where its easy to have a secluded space free of men to have my hair done. This shows cultural sensitivity and I value the staff a lot for this. The prices are reasonable I think compared to other salons that ive paid an arm and a leg for substandard service. Its a classy dance studio style salon. Quality products are used. In short I truly felt relaxed and pampered. Tianna is so talented I highly recommend her to anyone who wants a fabulous cut/color/highlight. read more

I had emily for an up-do for an incredibly important wedding this past weekend and by the time I left, I was on the verge of tears! While Emily listened me, and was somewhat patient with how I disliked the first still she did for me, she soon because angry and rude towards me since I asked her to fix the bumps out of the straightened hair. I literally could have done this better myself! My hair also didn't hold during the event. Emily may be talented in other aspects of her job, but this is where she may not thrive. read more

I hardly ever get my haircut and when I do I'm a nervous wreck because I know everyone cuts differently with their own style. I came here today, for the first time and had Hailey wash, cut and style my hair and I seriously couldn't be happier! I went from long dead hair to short, and it was a big change but I absolutely love it. I finally found a hairdresser! I defiantly recommend! read more

The first haircut that I had here was done well, except that it wasn't what I asked for: it was 5 inches shorter than what I wanted and with no layers whatsoever. Originally I had gone in to get a trim and layers added, but this did not happen. I was so upset about it, that when I called to complain, I spoke with a manager and she was kind enough to offer a redo with a more experienced stylist. So, for my second cut, I went in to see Stephanie, who is apparently their "master stylist." Uh, yeah right. First of all, she did not provide the basic head&neck massage that everyone raves about. Second, she was not able to chat and cut hair simultaneously, so that quickly made my time with her silent (fine by me). Third, she rushed though the cut, finishing in 20 minutes, which has never happened to me before. Third, she didn't fully blow-dry or style my hair. Fourth, she told me that "curly hair takes a few days to settle after a haircut", which is something I've NEVER heard before. Lastly, she gave me the worst haircut of my life: It looked like I had a bob from the front, and a goddamn mullet from the back. The only way to save this cut was to chop it short, which was the last thing I wanted to do after trying to grow it for 5 years!!! Lastly, I spoke to the owner of the salon who promised to mail me a gift card, which I still haven't received over 2 months later. Every time I call in, there seems to be some sort of issue (on top of terrible customer service). To make matters worse, they have "broken telephone" issues which are leading me to be in a position of not receiving what I was promised. Not cool. read more

I thought I would be the first to write a not-so-positive review but I see others have been through the same bad experience... - I agree with the reviews about the stylists being rude and robotic, I definitely felt like just another number to be rushed in and out. - I had my roots touched up only to have the colour fade after one wash! My greys were back in full force the very next day. - When I went back to ask for a refund, I was treated very rudely by the manager, Ophelia, who flat out denied a refund, saying that although she agreed the colour wasn't done properly, my only option was to come in and get it coloured again. I would NOT trust them with the colour after that! - I called the Rosedale location and told them my story, and they were much more understanding and agreed I should have received a full refund immediately. They provided me with the phone number for head office to make a formal complaint, and I suggest you all do as well: 416-754-1444 ext. 7767 read more

I'm surprised to read some of the reviews below. My friend recommended Kennedy as a hair dresser after some other person doing private practice (that I had been going to for years) messed up my hair -- badly -- for the last time. ... Kennedy knew exactly what I wanted/needed, the cut was amazing, and since then I have recommended other friends to see her. My hair is super thick, curly/wavy, and a pain in the a** to cut and style. When I first started seeing her, it was short too... so even harder to hide mistakes. Anyone who can work with my hair -- do so quickly -- and know what I need before I even say it is a great stylist. ... Also the salon is tres comfortable, clean, and getting your hair washed is like being at a spa. Well worth the $85 (tax included). ... Not sure about the bizarre account that the person below had, I would recommend Civello any day. read more

The manager at this location uptown is amazing Sharon! She really cares! One Star for only her! I booked with Veronica, have seen her a few times before with my kids but stoped going as her prices went up to $85 from $60. I couldn't justify spending all this money when my kids are so young and needing a simply hair cut. I had my heart set on this style for a very long time and decided to cancel last minute with the junior stylist and book with Veronica. What a Huge mistake that was. I waited a very long time to grow my hair for this style and had pictures ready. I had booked my daughter the day before with a junior stylist paid $30 and she loved it, this is who I cancelled with. My hair was really long. I showed her the picture and on the tablet for perfect viewing for this style. Worst service I have ever received in Civello. She made me feel really uncomfortable right from the start. She rushed through a quick shoulder massage and haircut. During the cut I had mentioned many times the length of the layers. When she finished, it did not look the same. I thought it might look different the next day but was worse. I wend back the next day; she looked at me and said I need to bring my manager, which was Sharon. I had other clients looking and listening to our conversation which made me feel really uncomfortable. When sharing this with Veronica she said she didn't care what others were thinking. This was not about her, this was about me feeling really uncomfortable with a manger coming to discuss what I wanted. When it was simple, the picture was right there. Sharon was wonderful, she said to put through a few more layers and to keep me updated with her cutting. The back of my hair was layered too much! The cut was done dry and flat ironed; it looked like I worked at a strip club. I was looking for a long soft layer in the back. All I was thinking is how I'm I going to drop off my kids at school, and how I'm I going to present my self to my clients. Veronica also has her sister working there, she had cut my son's hair many years ago and did a trouble job, Veronica had to fix it. Maybe there still upset with that, I don't know.. Veronica suggested I wash my hair and blow dry it with a brush to give a softer look. They couldn't wash my hair as the water was to COLD. I this point I didn't care I just wanted to get out of there. I had my hair get wet COLD, and was brushed off to a nice girl for the blow dry. Veronica had no care in the world continued her work like I wasn't here and gossiped to other staff like I wasn't there. What is upsetting is that I had to wait so long to grow it out, drive down twice from Newmarket, paying $110.00 and having the stylist not give a care, very rude. The manager Sharon was trying to get me into another location to fix it but everyone was busy. It was nice of her to try and offer a full refund. read more

Upon entering I was amazed at how rude the front staff was. It was only my second visit (I just moved from Manhattan) and was shocked at the unprofessionalism. My highlights came out ok but my haircut is what finalized my decision to never go back. I used a senior stylist (she had blonde hair) being honest in that I can't recall her name. Bottom line is that she ruined my hair. The haircut she gave me was elementary and I'm still letting it grow so that I can have someone properly fix it. The location was uptown on Yonge. Owners reading this fix your front staff and go in for a haircut - you'll pick up what I'm putting down! read more

Having been to a variety of salons - seems the colour is always good but have a problem finding a good cutter with imagination! Tried Civello on yonge - like most, first time was good but just returned for a christmas cut (5th time of going back) Colour over processed - no co-ordination between the stylist and colorist. Had a short cut and the tips of my hair are still dark at the back as I had 2 inches cut off. The stylist was double booked. So after cutting my hair which took all of 15 minutes, I was past to a junior who dried my hair. Flat and lifeless looking. Actually looked better before I went in. They did knock something off the price - but for $250 I expect better! Felt the whole thing was rushed - Can any one recommend a good stylist who can actually take the time to discuss a style - rather than just say it's your choice - in other words not confident in making a recommendation even though they claim to be senior stylists!!! Can't wait to wash and style my hair myself - ........... new Years resolution to find a good hair salon read more

This place has so much potential, but just doesnt cut it. I can't tell you how many times my bookings have been made in error. The staff at the front are typically rude and the manager is even worse. They need to have training in customer service. Clients should not be sent upstairs to look through closets for robes and slippers before a massage, and I really don't want to hear staff gossip while getting a mani. Don't bother coming here if you are looking for a nice afternoon hair cut and manicure... So many better options in the area. read more
