Before starting, the stylist and I spent about 5-10 minutes discussing exactly what I wanted, as well as the texture of my hair. My hair is naturally very curly and frizzy, and I explained that I wanted long layers and face-framing pieces while keeping the majority of my length. I specifically told her that I don't typically style my hair, so I needed the layers to remain long enough for me to wear my hair naturally and for the overall length to stay past my shoulders. She seemed to completely understand what I was asking for and agreed with me. Once she started cutting, I noticed that she was taking significantly more length off than I had expected. I tried to stay calm throughout the appointment, but I did express my concern and said, "Wow, it's really short." At that point, I was honestly in shock. She tried to reassure me by saying that maybe I just wasn't used to seeing myself with shorter hair, but I knew that wasn't what I had asked for. We had specifically discussed keeping my length and doing long layers, yet I left with my hair much shorter than I wanted and with noticeably choppier layers. I did reach out to a manager afterward, and I want to acknowledge that they were very professional and completely refunded me for the service, which I appreciated. I'm writing this review because I was told the situation was essentially due to miscommunication and that I should have brought in a reference photo. While I understand that photos can certainly be helpful, I personally don't feel that a reference photo should be necessary when you spend 5-10 minutes clearly communicating with a professional stylist about the length and type of haircut you want. The stylist, Tatiana, was very kind, and this review is not meant to attack her personally. I'm simply very confused about how a conversation about keeping my length, having long layers, and wearing my hair naturally resulted in my hair being cut significantly shorter with choppier layers. My biggest takeaway from this experience is that if you are getting even a simple trim or long layers, bring a reference photo--even if you feel like you've clearly explained what you want. I would hate for someone else to have the same experience I did. I shared photos of what my hair looked like before and what it looks like now.

I arrive at my appointment. The hairstylist comes out to get me. She says my name and then starts walking to her chair. Doesn't greet me - no nice civilities. I sit down and she asks what I want done. I tell her a trim and a layer or two. She says "oooof. You have a lot of hair." She seemed very annoyed. I explained I let them know when I called. She said they didn't tell her. I asked if that's a problem. She said no it's just an extra charge. I said ok that's fine. She started brushing my hair. She isn't brushing from the bottom up. She's brushing from the top down. It's getting tangled. She asks if she's hurting me. I say no. She doesn't say another word to me. Doesn't talk to me at all. She trims my hair and then says it's time to go wash. She starts walking not waiting for me to gather my things. I sit at the sink. She starts washing my hair. Again not saying a word to me about anything. A ton of water starts going in my ear. She hadn't given me a towel around my neck so I was using the cape to get it out. Water then starts splashing on my face. I start laughing at this point. She says "can you scoot back?" And then asks if something is wrong. I ask how much longer is left with the shampooing. She says "your hair is full of shampoo." I tell her I am going to end this when this is done. "So you don't want me to condition your hair?" No I do not. "What happened?" I told her it just seems the energy is off and sometimes people just don't connect. She said "you just seemed upset about the miscommunication with the girls upfront." I said "you haven't talked to me. Barely said 5 words to me since I got here." I put my hair in a bun got my stuff and went to pay. She was there and told me not to worry about it. She immediately began telling me that my daughter had "too much hair" for the service I selected and said that the service was for their "white customers." She told me I should have booked a Signature Blowout instead and that I should have called the salon rather than booking online. I understand that textured hair services may require additional time, and the salon does have a separate section for textured hair services. However, a wash, blow dry, and haircut is not listed under that section, so I booked the haircut service exactly as it appeared online. There was nothing during the booking process indicating that this service was limited to certain hair types or that it wasn't appropriate for my daughter. The stylist then said she could "try to do something" with my daughter's hair but wouldn't have enough time. By that point, I was uncomfortable with both her comments and the way she spoke to me. I told her not to worry about it because I no longer wanted her servicing my daughter, and we left. If the salon has different requirements based on hair type, texture, or length, that should be clearly explained in the online booking system. More importantly, those conversations should be handled professionally and respectfully. Unfortunately, this experience made us feel unwelcome, and I won't be returning.
