This place is a scam. Go somewhere else!!! I paid $400 just for some toner and my hair was already back to dark after just ONE week! Bleach doesnt fade or wash out! If my hair was done properly this wouldn't have happened. After addressing my concern to the owner, instead of fixing the issue, all she had to say was that her salon wasnt a good fit for me- because obviously they cant do blonde hair. All they did was put in some toner to disguise the amount of hair they DIDNT put any bleach on, which all washed out after one week. I already went somewhere else to get my hair fixed and she was able to see the ridiculous amount of brown hair that never touched any bleach. I made an appointment with Hope and she was very kind and super sweet to me. Didn't make me feel bad at all and gave me the best improvement possible. Sui was my hairdresser. I called on a Saturday morning and they took me in to see her that afternoon. I've had lots of great stylists/hairdressers in Manhattan New York. I've NEVER met anyone like her. She washed my hair, gave me a scalp massage with an oil of my choice, she cut and styled my hair for an hour and 45 minutes. I needed good haircut too and have very long hair. I've never had such an amazing hair stylist and highly recommend seeing Sui. First off, I have gone to this salon for a few years and have never had an experience like I did today. I understand that it's the holidays and they are trying to get everyone in for appointments but the quality shouldn't suffer because of it. My appointment was was for a root touch up and a cut. I was placed in a chair by one of the employees who proceeded to put a cape on and brush my hair. Then the person whose service I am actually paying for asked me about my cut, I showed them what I wanted, and the cut maybe lasted 5 minutes. They rushed off to mix my color and came back applied the color and that was the last I saw of them because they were off to the next person. A third person came to wash my hair and included a mini shower for my face as well as water was everywhere. This same person did the blow out as well. She did ask if I wanted curls and I told her it wasn't necessary because I was just going home after. What she did give me was a mess. She put the dryer too close to my head to the point where it felt like it was burning me. She also managed to pull my hair a few times during the process as well. The finished product was a mess. She took the cape off walked to the counter I guess to tell them I was done and walked off. Never once asking if I liked the final product or anything. I then told the girl at the front counter how disappointed I was with the blow out and all she said was "I'm sorry" but otherwise could have cared less. Like I said in the beginning I have gone here for a few years and have never been treated this way but this experience was less than satisfying. read more

Talk about a disappointment.... I really thought this new seemingly trendy salon was going to be my go to spot... well I was wrong. It's a real bummer because we rarely get trendy stuff this deep in the burbs. I kept driving by this place and what can I say, I'm a sucker for a good sign. Salt + Waves was pretty catchy and being in the need for a go to salon I took the bait. I setup an appointment for a partial balayage and a haircut. I have been blessed with that good hair, some might think I'm "Becky with the good hair" from that Beyoncé video... that being said, i went in with a need for a minor touch up, no heavy lifting. I got a stylist named Trey and well that is where I went wrong. This guy was friendly, I let him know I just wanted a partial balayage on the halo part of my hair. I previously had my hair done and the bottom half was a bit lighter than the top so only looking to even out the top. Now, I have to tell you I have naturally dark hair, I have patiently worked years to gradually get my hair lighter and lighter. Those of you with dark hair know that's the real struggle, getting past that brassy color to that nice cool color... we'll that's now gone. Gasp! Trey managed to lighten my already light hair to an almost white color. I knew with the foil and amount of time I was under that heat lamp I was headed for doom. We finally hit the sink to wash and get toned and Trey let me know he doesn't have time to cut my hair. I let him know I needed the cut more than the color but he informed me with my "thicker hair" the timing wasn't right. It wasn't my "thick hair" as much as it was the amount of time it took to foil and the time under the heat lamp. The 1st round of toner didn't work, we went back to the bowl for round 2 for a "warmer tone" which turned out to be hair dye. I have washed my hair 3x to get rid of this dark shade and my hair reeks. I also now have extremely damaged hair, it's breaking off when I brush it... why me! Now as a side note, if A stylist gives you a blow out never facing the mirror you're not gonna like what you see. I left there looking like Kelly Clarkson in 2000 with her mega chunky highlights! I still can't wrap my mind around how something so easy went so wrong? Aside from the hair sabotage, this man was completely frazzled. The receptionist ended up toning another clients hair for him since he was still fixing my hair, she even washed and prepped another client of his for a haircut. In all honesty she's the real MVP, I don't know if she's even qualified for those tasked but she stepped up and helped this man out of a jam. All I wanted to do was get out of there as fast as possible, that didn't happen because Trey and the receptionist were busy calling his next couple clients to inform them he was running 30 minutes behind. I'm not sure who is running this salon but it needs all hands on deck. It was left to this man, a receptionist and another hair stylist who in all honesty was hooking up some fire hair... if you're going to try this place be sure you research your stylist. If you don't like what you get hopefully the manager or owner will be in to assist. read more

I booked an appointment with Heidi as I was told she had experience with red hair and was one of the most senior stylists at Salt and Waves. Heidi dyed my roots such a vastly different color from the rest of my hair! I looked like my scalp was bleeding, badly. I appreciate that Heidi didn't try to act like what she had done to my hair was normal or okay. She immediately began to work on how to fix this disaster. She tried to retone my roots. It lightened the color but it was still awful. She then rehighlighted my whole head to try to minimize the root color. I arrived for my appointment that day at 11am. By 7pm I was exhausted and very hungry. Heidi was willing to keep working on my hair, but I was really nervous to keep trying things... We made an appointment to meet again the next day to continue working on my hair. The next day, Heidi worked on my hair again... I think she ended up just painting my roots a dark brown to cover the blood red color. Her advice was for me to try to wash my roots with a color harsh shampoo without washing the rest of my hair, as much as possible...what does that even mean? I cannot wet & wash my roots without getting shampoo on the rest of my hair. In summation- Heidi charged me FULL PRICE for my highlights and haircut (she tried to just cut the back & I had to ask her to please also trim the front...then remind her that I had asked her to ALSO trim the front half of my hair). She did not charge me for my root touch up. She did apologize, but seriously, I was at that salon for 12+ hours. I waited two weeks to write this review, but my hair still looks bad. On top of all that f that, I had to comfort HER through the ordeal! MY hair looks crazy, I had to pay her AND comfort her. I'm not here to put the stylist that did my hair on blast, so I will not be mentioning their name. However, I was extremely disappointed with the way my appointment went. I came in with copper hair, just wanting to add more dimension, and left with cool red roots, bronde ends, and a chunky, straw colored money piece. I honestly cannot put the full brunt of the blame on my stylist, because she was working with the assistance of a more senior stylist who actually gave her the formula to use on my hair. After my first wash and seeing the way my hair turned out I was so confused. The color that I had originally come in with was completely gone. I had burgundy roots, and the chunkiest money piece I had ever seen. I was frustrated, but felt empathy for my stylist as I knew she had not been doing hair for very long; I was however, very agitated at the fact the more senior stylist next to us was actually trying to convince ME that my hair "wasn't that bad". Then my appointment took an even more confusing turn when this senior stylist suggested putting ORANGE on my roots. I'm not a color expert by any means, but I'm not sure how orange would make my cool red roots look any less horrendous. After the second wash, it was obvious the orange had done nothing, and yet, the senior stylist was calling my hair "so pretty", and asking me "don't you like it?". I HATE the overuse of this word, but it honest to God felt manipulative. I appreciated the fact my stylist took money off my service, which is why this review is 2 stars instead of 1. My advice to the girl that did my hair would be, if the work you post on your Instagram is not 100% yours, that should be annotated in the post, in my opinion (you doing a cut, someone else doing the color, but you posting like you did all of it). The photos you post made it seem like your skill set was fully capable of doing the work I had requested. In addition to my poorly done hair, the vibe in the salon is off, some of the girls that work here are not friendly. I won't be returning. read more

I booked an appointment with Bri and she was very nice and thorough. I showed her some pictures of where I wanted my hair to be knowing we wouldn't get there in one appointment. She explained all this and gave me options for my hair for our first appointment which I appreciated. I actually ended up loving the shade of blonde my hair came out to be thanks to Bri. My hair is also a bit damaged and dry (not the fault of Bri) due to prior damage and the shampoo and conditioner she recommended has made my hair feel amazing after two washes. Well tried to do something nice for my girlfriend turned into an opportunity for Salt and Waves to take advantage of my credit card that I trusted them with. "Hey Salt and Waves, I'd like to treat my girlfriend to a haircut and color. What will that cost?" "Oh that's sweet, for what she is having done it'll be about $187." "Oh, good. She normally picked out a few products to take home, you can add those on too, plus gratuity." Here's the conversation Salt and Waves had with my girlfriend - "Your boyfriend called and gave us his credit card and treated you too your cut and color, he also bought these products for you. No need to sign, we will e-mail the receipt." What didn't happen was Salt and Waves deceived both myself and my girlfriend in that she had a choice about which products she wanted. They told her all were paid for by the "sweet boyfriend" - which was to the tune of $317. Let's say this again...$317. No receipt e-mailed. I found out on my bank statement. When I called them to get some clarity on what had actually occurred, she woman redirected the conversation about faulty communication between boyfriend/girlfriend without hesitation. Really? You are a place of business who should be equipped to answer questions, especially when someone entrusts you with a credit card. Then you hang up on me because I ask to speak with the manager of the store to ask if it's standard procedure to deceive customers who are trying to so kind things for each other? We communicated, only after we figured out that you manipulated the situation between a loving couple. Shame, shame, shame on you. I call back, and you double down and tell me my number is blocked and if I keep trying you'll call the police? I should be calling the police on you, but I feel bad for wasting their time on your deficiencies. Telling my girlfriend that all the products have been paid for and putting them in a bag to take home is a lot different than telling her she has a choice about which products/options she has. That conversation didn't happen at the store when she was there and you even found yourself in a lie when you said "it was all in a basket to take home based on stylist recommendations" and then said "she had a choice." Clearly she didn't...you told her it was all paid for. I wouldn't expect Salt & Waves to have the professionalism to respond, let alone apologize not only for being deceptive just to grab some money from an open credit card, but for the way you conduct yourself on a phone call with a customer who has questions about how they were charged. I can only imagine how excited you were at the opportunity to inflate a bill and turn a initial positive experience into one that was outright deplorable shameful. Calling out Carly...you are the only name that was provided to me. I don't think it was you on the phone or who charged up the tab, but you are culpable by working there. It is now Monday, and my blowout is still slaying after a very busy weekend outside in humidity and surviving the Sunday storm! Val did an amazing job! the ladies at the front talked with me about the products and services until my appointment time. Little different from my past couple experiences at other salons, so that made me really happy! All the products smelled amazing, the scalp massage was such a nice treat, and felt so clean after! Val was very knowledgeable and discussed with me options we can do for my hair and how to style. I'm somewhat hair challenged so this was extremely helpful!
