Being new to this area and loving bagels, I was really excited to try this place. I went in around 5am before work and immediately noticed how clean and up to date everything was. I ordered a simple everything bagel with cream cheese not toasted so the service was done pretty quick. Excited to take my first bite I quickly realized the bagel was close to pretty crunchy and stale. Additionally, there was more cream cheese on it than there was bagel. Needless to say I may give this place one more try but unfortunately the ambiance of the interior did not match the taste of the food. read more

Yesterday was the 2nd time I did not get what I ordered. I have total empathy for food service workers. I know how hard this job is. That means the problems are process, not people. The person who rang me up even repeated the order back to me: a bagel with nothing, a bagel sandwich, 2 raisin bran muffins. We got home and there were 2 corn muffins, not bran. I also know that when something isn't specified in a checkout system, the bottom line is to choose anything with the same price. A lot of eateries around here do that. The difference is: the person ringing up the order packs the bag and knows what they intended. In this case, someone else packed the bag and read corn muffins so that's what they packed. This place is the perfect breakfast spot! You can tell the bagels are homemade from the taste and the look! They are so fresh and soft and flavorful! They had a good mix of unique bagel flavors and basic ones. The egg everything one I had was to die for. I also love that they had multiple flavors of a mini bagel as an option. They are generous with the cream cheese and toppings. Eggs are seasoned well. The prices are good and the staff is friendly! The inside is super cute I love the magazines on the wall it adds a unique touch and a homey feel. Only complaint is my dad was supposed to get jalapeño cream cheese and they gave him regular. Well...I've tried this place a few times. So far it's been pretty terrible. The order is wrong every single time if you order by phone. It's wrong 95% of the time when placed inside the cafe. If you order by phone, for some reason, only the rudest, confused, and angry person will answer and act like you are ruining their day by communicating with them. Go inside the cafe and it's dirty, sticky, smelly, almost like a faint spoiled milk. The food, mediocre, delivered somehow almost cold even when you stand and watch it be made ? Fascinating truly. The price ? Expensive. Incredibly. 2 breakfast sandwiches 18$? Incredible. The baked goods. Oof, stale and old. Strange bitter taste, old taste. Dry... It's a -10/10 for me. 0 stars. You're better off driving into Flanders to go to Flanders bagel. It's better and cheaper. read more

First we stopped at @HackettstownBagels for #BreakfastSamiches and met a large portion of the #HackettstownBagel family. I had the THEC NO SPK and Joey had the double meat egg & cheese SPK. It's a nice spot with a fun crew, who really seem to like stickers #SWAG, at the corner of Mountain Avenue and Rt. 57. We also met the gang from @UncleTonysHotDogHouse who take over the same location at 2:00 to serve some delicious NJ style hotdogs. They seem like some down to earth Jersey folks. Hackettstown Bagels used to be my go to place to get a bagel on my way to work until yesterday. I had given them a couple chances already after a couple incidents where my breakfast sandwich was barely luke warm and my cheese didn't even melt. The eggs must have been pre-cooked and then reheated. Which is bothersome not knowing how long the egg sat there. How long does it take to cook an egg that they can't make it fresh? Yesterday, I was so disappointed when I took a bite into just a plain bagel and cream cheese, and it was hard as a rock. The bagel was so stale that it must have been a couple days old. I could barely get my teeth through it . I took a couple bites and ended up throwing it out. I know place just changed hands recently and it has gone down hill really fast. read more

Terrible Experience - Would Not Recommend The new ownership has completely ruined what used to be a great place. I witnessed food that had fallen on the floor being put back on the grill--absolutely unacceptable. They also refuse to honor loyalty points earned under the previous owner, telling me to "take it up with Joe," who no longer runs the place. Between the unsanitary practices and dismissive attitude, I will never return. I strongly advise others to stay away--both the food and the management are disgusting. read more

I got just a bacon egg cheese on a raisin bagel. Service was good. Bagel itself was not as fluffy as I'd usually come to expect, rather condensed. Egg portioning was actually good. My absolute favorite on the go breakfast is an everything bagel with a hot coffee. I've traveled throughout this country and certainly through NJ ordering many everything bagels and coffee for breakfast. There are bagel places that have good everything bagels, however I must say that Hackettstown Bagels is the ONLY bagel store that puts the "Everything" on the top AND bottom of their bagels!! Their coffee is bold and strong versus weak and watered down Dunkin Donuts or way over priced mocha choca late whatever's from Starbucks. Very impressed. I have never left there unsatisfied whether in store or the drive through. I'm always greeted by friendly staff with smiles who never disappoint. The owners - management - staff deserve nothing less than a 10. I also like ALOT of cream cheese and ask for extra every time. If I don't get what I have come to expect on a particular day, I don't cry about it on a public forum. Rather I remind them next time to add a little extra which they do. Bagels are not supposed to be round dry "buns" that even when sliced cannot fit into a toaster. Please go to Brooklyn or Montreal and learn what a bagel looks and tastes like. I was excited super excited to try a new bagel spot in town that also features a drive thru! The line was long but they quickly took everyone's order and had the line moving in no time. The dining room was clean with ample table inside. Past the bagel display case you can take a look into the kitchen and see how the magic happens. The kitchen was clean with the owner Joe cranking out fresh bagels. The staff was friendly and made the experience better. I ordered a Taylor and Cheese on a jalapeño bagel with pepper & ketchup. The bagel had a crispy outside with a soft interior. The Taylor ham was cooked perfectly. I could not have asked for a better sandwich. They have a large coffee bar and a beverage display case which has my favorite Joe's raspberry iced tea. I think I might have found my new favorite spot for bagels. read more

Bagels were good... but Check your order before you leave!! I was taking a large order of bagels across the country to friends who had requested certain varieties. I called in the order they day before and picked them up the next day at the time i said i would be there.. the bags were ready... with my name on them.. assuming they were the correct bagels i ordered... I left with out checking ..(my mistake)... I get to Newark airport and start to pack them in my carry on.. and i realized that they were not the bagels I ordered... i double checked the bags they gave them to me in and they had my name right and had the list of what i ordered... but thats not what was in the bags!!!... unfortunately...i had to catch my flight... so I couldn't do anything about the mistake... Just stopped on my way to a doctors appointment because the words "hand-rolled bagels" caught my eye! This place is doing things right! The cashier greeted me with a warm smile and answered my questions immediately. She asked another staff person about an ingredient I am allergic to just to make sure. That's good customer service. The bagels are all big and nice looking and this blueberry French toast with cream cheese is DELICIOUS! Do not go here!!! Honestly one of the worst subs I've ever had in my life, and living in New Jersey there's plenty of sub shops worth your time. Nothing on the sandwich was correct or what we ordered, there was ZERO vinegar or mayo even though both were ordered so it was DRY, with stale rolls that were crumbling and deli meat that tasted weeks old. They ask what side salad you want with the sandwich and then don't include any with the order. When we called to let them know the order was incorrect and quality was terrible it was just an oh well! I would usually give Hackettstown bagel 5 stars. The owner always has a smile and positive attitude, (not like all the staff). Although the past few times I have been here my bagel is hard and not enjoyable to eat. I let it go a few times then I had nicely asked to please make sure I didn't get a hard bagel. Stopped in this morning for some breakfast. I was excited to have a bagel with fresh lox & cream cheese. Within minutes my sandwich was served and it was ok but the outside of the bagel was unusually hard. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and aromatic it smelled. The dining area was clean but very cold where the tables were situated. I decided to order some eggs and sausage as I was still hungry and after about 20-25 minutes I honestly couldn't wait any longer so I went up to the counter to inquire about my food. They had packaged it for take out but never gave it to me, instead it was sitting in the drive through area. Unacceptable, customers should never have to remind staff that they are waiting for food. Especially when there is only one customer in the store. There were at least 6 people working at the time and conversing amongst themselves. I just don't get how you can drop the ball like that. I ordered the eggs over easy and they were way over hard. The home fries where so over seasoned with salt and I believe old bay. So over seasoned that they were inedible. They did offed to remake the eggs but at this point the rest of my platter has been sitting in an unknown location getting ice cold so I didn't want to torture myself any longer with the incompetence of the staff and owners who are oblivious to customer service and don't know their own pos system. The kid that took my initial order knew the computer however when I reordered with one of the owners it was clearly apparent that she didn't. read more
